Electric Cars are flashy but they generally don't serve a lot of people at a time, and so can be wasteful from a natural resources and energy requirement point of view. They're also still very expensive and not affordable for the average working class person.

I love basing characters off random things so from the previous ask, I wanna talk about the Curtis Parents!

(I am aware that their names are not middle eastern, but I’m gonna go off and say that they were changed to better fit with Americans so not much problems would arise with their family.)

It would make sense that they’re white But I’m gonna go off ‘canon’ here and say that they were both born in a Middle Eastern country (it can be any country,) I’d say Darrel was already born into a not so wealthy family, lower than the middle class. So in order to take care of his family, he would always worked from a young age in many different jobs to bring back money to the family so they would be able to afford basic necessities for everyone. When he is much older, he meets his wife, in which he falls in love with her and asks her family for her hand in marriage. During this time, they would talk and communicate with one another, eventually them falling deeply in love with each other due to sharing common interests.

It’s cultural tradition that Arab families would have gold jewellery in their possession, in which Mr Curtis would work extremely hard in order to get these gifts for his wife. But during this time, when they were already married and having their first child, Darry, mr Curtis realised he wanted to have a better life for their family, he never wanted to raise them in a village where he had to work hard at a small age. So talking to his wife, they made a deal. They would sell their jewelleries (in which he promised his wife, he would buy it back,) to build up the money to transport only one person. (He decided it would be better to figure out a job and a house before bringing his family over.)

Darrel was born and somewhat raised in his native country, while Soda and Pony were born in America, making them Arab Americans.

I think because it was already expensive enough to transport them to America, they couldn’t exactly afford to go back to their native country. Not only because they didn’t have the money, but because they couldn’t. They missed their families and their food, but they had nothing else going on for them there. America was already limited with ingredients to make traditional food, so they make what they can get, but usually they would make what’s considered American food. Some they already have would be rice stuffed vegetables, kebab, and Kofta. They always wished their sons would be more connected to their culture.

Since having expensive jewellery is considered cultural, Ms Curtis left her belongings in her room, kept safely. And after they die in an auto wreck, I don’t think either brother would sell her jewellery, considering it would be one of the only things that reminded them of her, and thought it’d be disrespectful to give their mothers’ treasures away.

With languages, I think with Darry, he speaks pretty fluently considering their parents first language would be Arabic, they mostly talked to him in Arabic before they self taught themselves to speak proper English so that they would better fit in. With Soda, I think he would be the type to have spoken Arabic at first when he was younger, but when he started going to school, he forgot when he grew older.

With Pony, I think that Darry would sort of teach him to keep up with his language skills. (Making him revise the alphabet, learning grammar, etc.) whenever he is able to do so. He knew their parents never wanted them to forget their family heritage, so after they were gone and couldn’t help Ponyboy (nor Soda,) he opted to help them out when he was free from work,

The way I think of it, Anon, is that Sinophobia is not a “doll hobby problem.” No, far from it. While many of the developing countries in the world have a favourable view of China as a state and a people, the same cannot be said about the rest of the developed world. Just as you’ve pointed out, Japan and Korea, the other two main “doll countries” in Asia, happen to have the highest unfavourable opinion of China. It’s really no wonder that from the viewpoint of doll collectors (esp. Japanese doll collectors), Sinophobia is rampant and visible. (Not always true with resin dolls, apparently. Most Japanese and Korean collectors still collect Chinese dolls as far as I know.)

As an “oldie”, your OCDA had lived through the Tiananmen Square Incident, the poisoned Sanlu milk powder incident, SARS, Bird Flu, HK uprising and now COVID. What you're looking at are repoed vehicles waiting for owners to pay lenders off and recover them.

To my eyes, it's also a picture of the need for affordable homes in transit-served density, where the expense of car ownership is less of a necessity and the threat of repossession is less present in peoples' lives.

The struggle of transportation costs is real, and it's getting worse every year.

According to a NY Times report, the average annual cost of new-car ownership rose to $12,182 this year due to increased "purchase prices, maintenance costs and finance charges." That's an incredible cost burden -- one that obviously hits lower-income drivers the hardest.

Too often, we demand car ownership by way of our unwalkable, sprawling urban designs which offer little alternative. We essentially enforce this burden.

Life Update

full transparency: I figured I'd express and post this now before I don't have access to do so.

I have been trying my hardest to find work and I have an interview tomorrow but it is a distance I have to travel and I can't afford to get there. it was either buy food for next few days or not have enough for the ride. I literally have not had much $ this past month, from having to pack up and leave my hotel to moving here took all my money I had. my best friend even helped which was great, she's an angel and I even had a few people donate to help me which was wonderful I appreciate those people a ton too.  unfortunately this job, they're the only company that has replied to me within the last 2 weeks, my last interview decided not to pick me that I spent over a month in communication with which sucks. I've applied to 32 jobs within the last month. I literally counted them all and I feel like either someone is preventing me from getting hired, my phone & email are both hacked, or something is stopping my progression. patreon funds for June went towards my storage where all my things are *so grateful for everyone here for that* and transportation to move around. other than those I have nothing at this point. all of my saved $ went towards the hotel which is what frustrates me the most that they did not care about my situation at all prior to having to leave. to make matters worse the lady that I've been staying with doesn't really want me here & isn't who I thought she was when she offered me to stay. I thought she was a friend (old co-worker) but all she does is lie about everything, steal, and does alot of crooked hateful things to people and is really mean to her kids. but she sent me a text tonight that said her landlord found out I was staying here and I have to leave by friday or she gets evicted. which I don't know is even true or if she is lying about it and just wants me gone because I asked her eldest son who and he was clueless. either way I don't have anywhere to go, shelters are full for the next month near me and everything is getting worse and worse & I feel very hopeless. I don't know what to do.

I don't want to constantly ask or expect help but I do think this is because for so many years I went through alot of abuse and pain and did not ask for help which is more than likely why I'm in this position and I have no one to depend on irl, I have never asked for help up until I left last year and I still struggle with it and I'm doing all of this on my own without help. this is alot on me & I can't take this on
