Oh yes I would love to share!

This is going to be really long, bare with me asdfghjk I have to explain the AU first

I'm going to put this all under the cut because it's just a lot of random info asdfghj. But the short of it is: Kat, super powerful psychic, has linked her and Vergil's brains, ramping up their codependency and rendering them Very Scary to be on the bad side of.

The long of it below.

The AU is very weird. I love crossovers like, a lot, and so does my girlfriend so we had a while were we just kept making these massive multi thing crossovers. This AU was one of those which involved basically everything we liked but in Bioshock. Except the idea was like, Rapture from Bioshock if due to different leadership and regulations it lasted until the 80s where it's slow crumbling due to it's like, leadership crumbling and falling away to various gangs and organizations within the city (somewhat similar to the original Bioshock but more emphasis on the crime underground and less emphasis on Ayn Rand). This is where most of our characters were, the various crime organizations and gangs coming up and trying to gain the power that's up for grabs in the shifting environment of 80s Rapture.

Which is....genuinely such an alternative universe it...barely even feels connected to fandom anymore? Like genuinely, it'd be really easy to scrub the serial numbers off and just make this about some other underwater city isolated and secret from the rest of the world but, currently it's not that, and naturally the reboot kids are in it.

But it kind of existed in part to, yeah, explore the fun dynamics you can get out of your favorite characters and franchises all shoved into one very specific setting. But also what would happen in the setting of Rapture if it was allowed to last longer then the like 11 years it got in game and what the ramifications of that might be. Also because Rapture in the 80s would look very coo.

One concept we were really interested in is like, what would happen with plasmids in particular. For anyone unfamiliar with Bioshock, one of the main things is they've discovered a technology they can use to rewrite people's genetic code basically. This can be used for all sorts of things from cosmetic procedures to one of the main gameplay elements of Bioshock, various powers. Given the city of Rapture in game only lasted like, 11 years though and Adam (the substances used to create plasmids) wasn't discovered until a few years even into that we don't really see the results of it generations down the line.

Plasmids and what they do to the body and mind in game tend to be very...unstable. Adam and Eve, both which fuel plasmids, are addictive and most people kind of just lose their minds to it as the Adam eats at their bodies and minds.

But the effects of plasmids are in the DNA code of the pecxople who used them, right? Like, people in theory could pass these abilities down genetically, now that they're in their DNA code. So the idea was like, if you cracked down on Adam to avoid at least part of what led Rapture to fall in game, what would happen with the fact that you now have people who can essentially have super powered babies with abilities that may or may not be more stable then the original plasmids? Stronger to?

This kind of lays the ground work for the Verat part of the AU. Because the twins in this setting couldn't be Nephilim and Kat couldn't be psychic, but we wanted them to have abilities. So they became what we called 'genetic plasmids', a group of people born to parents who used plasmids which have since been highly regulated and banned but still retain abilities of the original plasmids used in Rapture before the ban because they were born with the genetic code for them.

Genetic plasmids kind of pose a problem for 80s Rapture so a lot of them, upon being found, are locked up in this separate area of the city with labs and what not to both study what makes the plasmids more stable in them and keep them away from everyone else.

The idea with Vergil is he had abilities based in those of the Winter Blast plasmid (Dante was Incinerate) so he has ice powers essentially. Probably largely immune to the cold as well. But his powers are less important here.

Kat, though, was based on Telekinesis and this is the important one. We wanted to play with the idea that more stable plasmids that are born with a person could mean infinitely more powerful plasmids. So Kat's powers aren't just telekinetic abilities, she is just an all around incredibly powerful psychic. This is also aided by the fact that Adam, as we know it in game, has a side effect of kind of connecting minds to begin with? Like, I'm explaining things very briefly here but we know it can do that so Kat can tap into that. So she's telekinetic, she can read minds, I think we toyed with tapping into the unused teleportation plasmid from the game, all that good stuff. (I have a soft spot for AUs where Kat is stronger then the boys).

We had a few versions of this AU so I don't have like one backstory for how and why Kat met but the important part of this for the question is that at some point, for whatever reason, Kat decides to psychically link her and Vergil rather permanently after just kind of visiting him a lot in his own mind. Thus making it so she is like, always in his head and always communicating with him in his head. He of course talks back and stuff and he's allowed back into her mind but the important thing is he can't shut her out, she can shut him out. If she wanted to, at least.

I've probably mentioned before but I tend to write Verat pretty codependent so this dynamic just ramps that up to an insane level. A lot of this is informed by that codependency.

So they kind of share two brains at all times and are always in communication with each other and they rarely talk outloud to one another anymore since they don't need to and they are almost always around each other. If they're not, they are still in active communication. They can share body sensations through Kat, and Kat can allow them to share dreams. She rarely, if ever, shuts off the link intentionally and they are just always, always in each others brains. Dante refers to them often as a two headed snake.

If the link is severed abruptly, I think I decided it hurts Vergil. Likely due to the fact somethings happened to Kat which has hurt her but, also just severing it so harshly is painful. They're also just so used to one another in their brains like, it's not a comfortable feeling when that's not there.

The AU was never really plotted, we liked throwing things at the wall and coming up with concepts for what this very large group of characters could be doing in this setting we made up based off another setting. So we had a few backstory idea's for what led to this and neither is really like...firm anymore. Particularly with how much time has passed since either of us has worked on the finer details of this AU. I just always really loved this dynamic for them, I thought it was interesting to explore both in how Vergil and Kat were together but also how other characters perceived them.

Anyway, so that's the AU where Verat have a psychic link and it's everyone elses problem!

Do you think AE Saeran can look at old photos of himself? Ones from his childhood and selfies Ray has taken. Or do you think it’d be a little triggering for him?

I think he would be able to do that. There aren't too many photos of him that exist from childhood, in fact, you could probably count them on your hand.

There are more photos of him than there are of Saeyoung. That's for a good reason and only has to do with the fact that Rika took secret photos for Saeyoung. If not for that, there would not be any photos of him in existence at all. You have to remember that the boys weren't supposed to exist at all.

Their very existence was a detriment to their lives. They couldn't grow up normally, they couldn't have pictures taken of them, they couldn't go to school, they couldn't leave their house without taking multiple steps to make sure nobody followed them home, and I'm sure you can imagine the rest.

If you're not supposed to exist, you shouldn't have evidence of your existence.

I think GE Saeran can look back at all the photos that were taken of him. The ones Ray took might be hard to look at. Because, he is Ray, and he's in a better place of healing now and looking back on how far he was into the manipulation and delusion that was sold to him is hard to stomach.

He doesn't turn away from those pictures because he isn't ashamed of himself. He feels a lot of empathy for that person, for that Ray, because now he knows why what he was feeling was wrong and those insecurities that ruled his world aren't as powerful as he thought they were. He can look back at those photos and tell himself that what he was afraid of wasn't true.

But... photos from his childhood? I believe those can be hard to look at. There's a lot of complex feelings that come from looking at those photos, but I think the most difficult thing for him would be guilt. The obvious feelings that are intertwined with this are the ones that everyone can pick out, him looking at a smaller version of himself that's in a bad place, but that kid just needs somebody to tell him that it's going to be okay someday and even though it hurts and he doesn't deserve to suffer, he would choose to do it all again if he ended up where he was now.

The hardest part would be knowing that his brother wouldn't be able to have photos like that. Saeyoung might have gotten photos of him, but... he never got photos of Saeyoung.

Sure, I suppose we can argue that there are pictures of him on the messenger, but we have to remember that he is the one in control of moderating that server, and he makes it pretty clear throughout the game that it has tip top security. Nobody could get into that if they wanted to, and the only reason people were able to get into it in the first place is because HE WASN'T THERE TO MAN IT.

His brother had the benefit of seeing Rika's phone and the messenger. He was able to recreate everything after studying it for quite a while, and sure, it wasn't perfect by any means, but that was the only reason why he was able to get in. He had something that was already inside of it.

Saeyoung likely didn't start taking photos of himself until he had the messenger. I can't see it any other way. Most, if not all of the photos he shares with everyone in the messenger tend to have him in costume for disguise.

It's never quite him 100%, and if it is, he lives knowing that it's safe from everybody else. That is the only place where he allows his existence to be what it is. He isn't afraid. I mean, if you look up paranoid in the dictionary, his face is there, but the messenger is his safe place.

Saeran would undoubtedly feel guilty that his brother doesn't have much documentation of his own existence.

That's not his fault, but I'm sure he would experience some guilt about it. Honestly, I think that's a huge reason why Saeran takes up photography. It's a common theme we see throughout his after-ending, and it was always hinted at from the very beginning, sprinkled in there with hints from his conversations with Jihyun.

He wants to take pictures of everything, of all of his experiences, not because he doesn't want to live in the moment, but because he always wants something to show him that he's been to all kinds of places and he can look back on it fondly. But, in this sense, he could make sure that there's always pictures of his brother and I think that's part of his healing process.

Looking at his brother can be difficult because of what was done to him, he spent so long being sick at the side of his own reflection because of his brother, but now he can look through a view finder and it's not as sickening. It's going to take some time before it feels right, but they're on their way to recovery.

reveilo: rita skeeter, in and of herself, was a scandal. she was born on a cold chilly morning on november eleventh, on the six month anniversary of her parents wedding day, and only seven months after her parents engagement came to be. jin ae moon had always been the girl everyone expected her to be, having been sorted into ravenclaw, she excelled in her schooling, and it was no surprise to anyone when she took a position in the ministry shortly after her twenty-second birthday. however, as all children do, she eventually made a mistake that would determine the rest of her life. after attending a quidditch match with her older brother, she found herself face to face with puddlemeres newest beater, parker skeeter. a few drinks later and she found herself in bed with parker skeeter. she left before he awoke the next morning, embarrassed and humiliated with herself. she went on with life as usual until she found out that her harmless night with parker skeeter wasn’t so harmless after all, and with crafty negations between both parties, jin ae moon became jin ae skeeter before anyone became aware of the result of their little indiscretion: rita. there wasn’t true love in their marriage, if anything there was resentment in the beginning. parker skeeter’s career was just starting, and the last thing he wanted was to be tied to a wife and baby, but he didn’t dare risk scandal. scandal could ruin them both, the common theme that bonded them. whenever she were born, her parents decided to let their family, and the media alike, think that she was premature, and quite ill as a result, backed by the word of the healer after she had received a significant amount of galleons for her silence. she was three months old before she was ‘well’ enough to be shown to the world, and this was the first time the world saw the scandal became known as rita skeeter.

indocturnation: while rita’s father hadn’t been excited about her existence in the first place, especially on the realization that she was a girl and not the son he craved, parker skeeter knew that at least he could instill his values in her. her only true unchangeable flaw in his eyes being her dark hair, the one thing of her mothers she has. the first time she learns about mudbloods she is barely three years old. her father sat her down in the living room, and began filling her innocent mind with words and phrases describing monstrous things, not even human enough to be called a person. those were what mudbloods were, and the reason that she had to avoid these monstrous beings became quite clear to the three year old rita skeeter right away. over the next seven years her father would continually give her lessons about how to be a proper pureblood, and what is right and wrong as he slowly formed her views little by little. her mother on the other hand never so much as uttered the word mudblood the entire duration of your time . jin ae never really seemed to voice any of the opinions she had around her husband, though she told rita of some of them. how she didn’t like the cologne he wore, or how she wished he would take his shoes off when he came into the home. all in all, her mother was picture of how a pure blood wife should be, at least in her fathers eyes. quiet, polite, and not questioning things. if he only knew what she thought of his views, and his actions and indiscretions. her childhood is spent in a house of unrest just waiting to boil over, and at the age of three, she is completely unaware of just how bad things will get.

the story is what you make it: it was a cold may morning whenever rita and her mother made the trip back to her home town for her grandfathers funeral. during the funeral they spoke about his bravery, his skill, his family, and their ancestors. it was only whenever a young rita listened closely that she heard lies being told, and things not adding up quite right. she stayed silent though, as she was supposed to, and waited until the witches and wizards dispersed to pull on her mothers robes and ask about what she’d heard, and asked why they lied. her mother knelt down to face her, and told her a phrase that would stick with her for the rest of her life: the story is what you make of it. the young witch nodded, and touch her mother’s hand as she led her away, the words still dancing in her head.

animagus: from the time rita skeeter learned about animagi in her third year at Hogwarts, she decided then and there that she would become one. it was a grueling process, exasperated by the fact she wanted it to remain a secret. she studied and read for years, preparing for when she would finally put it all into action. it was in the summer after her seventh year that she put her plan into motion, finally succeeding her endeavors shortly before her eighth year was set to begin. her form was a beetle, not something she would have ever anticipated, but a useful thing in the end. no one would notice a beetle in a crowded room, or whenever spilling out their deepest and darkest fears to no one but themselves.

headcanons:

rita is the daughter of parker skeeter and jin ae moon. she is the only child of the marriage as complications from labor rendered jin ae unable to bare more children.

she is fluent in english, korean, and french. potions was her best class at hogwarts

potions was her best class, and the only course she recieved an outstanding on in her newts

she hasn’t taken the dark mark yet not because she doesn’t support the cause, if anything, she supports it more than anything else in her life, but should the tide of the war change, she wants to be able to make the story what she wants it to be, and a bullseye on her arm is hardly conducive of that.

she has been writing anonymous articles and stories and submitting them to wizarding publications from the time she was sixteen, occasionally getting published in the daily prophet and witch weekly from time to time. typically revolving around gossip she has heard amongst the students, in hogsmeade, the social circles she is privy to, as well as blatant lies.
