Jisoo read the message for the umpteenth time, her fingers nervously tapping out a rapid, agitato pulse against her thigh. It was process she’d almost worn out entirely: she would type out a message before wiping it entirely out of frustration, for the words on her phone seemed tauntingly inadequate for what she wanted to say.

Jisoo had to seat herself down lest she worn a hole in her carpet from her restless pacing.

Alright, so he shouldn’t actually be here (but really, isn’t that how most his stories start?)

Jisoo had specifically told him, on multiple occasions, not to get involved with her cases. She had repeated it time after time, after time, until Minho had gotten so fed up with it that he had stopped nagging her about it. See, the thing here was that the elder had access to an infinite amount of useful files. Information that could definitely be of use to him—and yet she chose not to share it with him. There had been only a handful of situations in which Jisoo had actually given away a couple of tips; but that was all. And, she had stressed, she would never help him again if he did not stick to her rules. A fair enough offer, one would say. Minho did not think so. Sure, he respected her wishes and had refrained himself from disobeying her, but he would have liked to think of his current situation as one that had left him (and his curiosity) no other choice.

For weeks on end, Jisoo’s behaviour had seemed rather off. Nothing too extreme, but to someone that always had to pay special attention to people’s mannerisms, it had been quite obvious. Perhaps tailing her wasn’t the best way to solve this mystery, but Minho was positive that it was the only way to properly figure out the truth. Each and every time he had tried to bring the topic up, Jisoo would avoid it. Shrug it off. His attempts at trying to get her to speak had been fruitless, and that had given him all the more reason to personally find out whatever the hell was going on. If she did not speak, it had to be important—and if it were important, he simply had to know.

That is exactly what has brought him to the restaurant that very moment. Unrecognisable. He had morphed into the first insignificant person that had come to mind. Oh, eavesdropping had become so easy with his ability. It was wrong to be using it on his friend, and he knew for a fact that Jisoo was going to kick his ass if she found out.. but how would she ever know?

(Because morphed or not, he’d always give in to his stupid, reckless impulses.)

By now, Minho should definitely know better but to give in to his own thoughtless plans. Sure, he had come up with a couple of plans that reeked of a genius mastermind—but those were the ones he had thought through thoroughly. This one? Not so much. And so, it doesn’t take very long for him to find himself in yet another tricky situation.

Nice.

‘I can help out.’ He’s approached the pair without even thinking his words through, forgetting about at least one minor little detail. A background story. ‘I accidentally overheard you talking..’ Lie. ‘..and I can guarantee you that I have the perfect ability—capability. I meant capability, to help you out. All I need is some details, and I’ll work out a plan.’

(And this, dear Minho, is why your grandfather has always insisted to think before you act.

Jungsoo looked up from where he was sitting dressed in only a thick sweater and a pair of fingerless gloves upon hearing the familiar voice ring out in the otherwise quiet field. “Ah, Instructor Jingoo,” he greeted with a soft dimpled smile rising to bow slightly. They were the same age—in fact Jungsoo was older by a few weeks—but since Jingoo worked at the foundation as the resident combat instructor he obviously held more authority.

“I don’t feel that cold actually. My body tends to run warmer than others, but thank you for your kind offer. You be careful of colds too; what would we do if you were out sick with no one to kick our asses during training class, hm?” With one last flash of his pearly whites he inclined his head before flapping his wings powerfully, taking off from the ground.

“Well, I’ll be leaving first! See you next session.”

it’s not an understatement to say that a proposition over dinner is what started it all — the minute jiwon opened her mouth neither of the two knew it was the beginning of the end, that they’d be plunged head first into hell without so much of a warning.

“okay listen, i know, i know, you don’t want to go trick or treating this year too, but look i’ve got just the thing for you.” she’s exhilarated, and jin goo could already tell by just the ardent glint in her eyes. “the circus is coming to town tonight, and bear with me, it’s a little past your bedtime but i figured we should check it out." 

“i mean, you’re a bit tense,” — like you always are, though jiwon bites her tongue before he can hear the rest of it. “let’s have you live a little, just for tonight. what do you say?”

✿: My muse gives your muse a Christmas present.

Jisoo stared at the present in her hand, her mind whirring to a stop. 

Captain Jin Goo gave her a present. Captain Jin Goo held her in high enough regard to gift her a present? Jisoo’s mouth hung open, and for a moment, and for perhaps the first time in her life, she had no words to say.

“Th-thank you.” Jisoo finally stuttered out, her voice uncharacteristically shaky. As she caressed the present with wonder, her fingers ghosting over the red wrapping paper as if afraid that she’ll ruin it with the slightest touch, she was involuntarily reminded of better times, of times where her father was still alive, filling Jisoo and Jennie’s lives with unforgettable love. 

With eyes admittedly not as dry as she would like them to be, Jisoo carefully unwrapped the present, careful not to ruin the paper. It was a scarf. Jisoo immediately wrapped it around herself, burrowing her face into the stitching. As she took a deep breath, the deep, musky scent of Captain Jin Goo filled her body with warmth.

Surprised, when she looked up at Captain Jin Goo’s smiling face, Jisoo realized that he made the scarf himself.

Oh....I’ll treasure this forever, Captain Jin Goo.

Jisoo stood up, her vision blurry and throat strangely tight. Slowly and purposefully, she saluted not her fellow officer, but to someone who will always have her loyalty, no matter what. Jisoo put her fervent intent behind her motions, with her gratitude and admiration coloring her every sinew.

(As much as she hated to admit it, when she saw that Wiki also had a similarly wrapped box in his arms, she couldn’t help but to taste something sour in her mouth.)

"Is that mistletoe?"

“Jin Goo Sunbaenim!” Jisoo saluted, outwardly the image of a perfect soldier showing he proper amount of respect to her superior, but inwardly a panicking mess as she surreptitiously eyed the mistletoe that inconceivably appeared right on top of their heads.

I hate Christmas.

Furthermore, Jisoo could hear masculine giggling from somewhere and ohhhh was Wiki going to get it when she gets out of this situation-

Well. Apparently Jisoo’s subtle eyeing of the mistletoe was not subtle  enough because Jin Goo’s going to notice any second-

Whatdoidowhatdoidowhatdoido-

Inexplicably, Jisoo found herself controlled by the last vestiges of the impulsiveness of her youth; even though she’s already 22 for goodness sakes-

Oh. My. Jin Goo. 

Is… is that Jin Goo’s LIPS on her own? (It’s soft)

But nononono! Jisoo hadn’t even confessed yet so why did she go up and kiss him?

Where in the name of Jin Goo did her logic and sound mind go?

And so, unable to meet Jin Goo’s eyes (and thus throwing herself into a world of humiliation OH DEAR LORD), Jisoo uncharacteristically yet again went for the impulsive route: Jump out of the nearest open window.

Never mind that she was currently on the fifth floor.

(And no, it wasn’t as smooth as Song Joong Ki’s gallant leap, and she might have broken something, but at least she avoided a confrontation with Jin Goo, right? right???)

And so when Jisoo woke up from a drug-induced sleep with her hand in a cast, (thank God it wasn’t her dominant hand, for she was still a sniper, goddamnit) thinking that things couldn’t be worse, she turned in favor of a more comfortable position on her hospital bed and saw-

Jin Goo. Of all the things WHY-

And OH DEAR LORD OUR EYES JUST MET-

And so, Jisoo promptly rolled off her hospital bed ungracefully and then rolled under it for good measure.

(And yes, she did bruise her tailbone, why do you ask?)
