Loch Harport, Carbost
What a beautiful site this is. I highly recommend checking out the boat tour here. We were lucky enough to see some Sea Eagles! The locals here are so knowledgeable about their surroundings and they’re super friendly. The local pub here does really good food and is a great place to look out over the loch with a glass of wine after a long day exploring -RoxyC I second that. You just want to pray that the sea is fairly calm or else you might be in for a choppy ride. What a perfect way to spend a couple of hours -TommyC

Old Castle Lachlan
This ruined 15th Century castle sits on the shore of Loch Fyne. The well preserved ruins offer spectacular views of the Loch and this is a great spot to have a cuppa or a picnic and just enjoy the view -RoxyC.
It is really worth the short walk from the Kilmorie Chapel to get here. Be sure to be careful clambering around the old ruins-TommyC
Cost: Free
Opening hours: 24/7, but it’s obviously best to visit in daylight hours.

Gretna Green
Unfortunately we were already married by this point, and what better way to understand the history of marriage by visiting such a famous town. -TommyC
No, we didn’t get married here. However, as we were crossing the border we had to make a trip to touch the anvil and get out share of its luck - RoxyC.
Opening hours: Vary depending on season.
Cost: £3.75  adults, £.00 concessions, Children under 12 free.

Dunvegan Castle
Dunvegan Castle is another castle on the beautiful isle of Skye. It’s the seat of the Clan MacLeod. Today the castle is open to visitors, you can stroll through the rooms which give you an insight into the castles history or simply enjoy the multiple gardens. The gardens are themed and contain a plethora of different plant species, from medicinal to ornamental. We were rather taken with the giant rhubarb (Gunnera manicata)! In pre, and hopefully post-COVID times you can hop on a boat to do a bit of seal spotting here too, we were lucky enough to spot them across the shore! -RoxyC
Who on Earth designed this monstrosity?! Looks like something you’d build on minecraft. On the plus side, if you look really hard out to sea you might be able to spot some seals -TommyC.
Cost: Varies depending upon admission type. Check at the time of your visit (if you’re visitng during the COVID pandemic be sure to check what parts of the castle are open... we could only visit the gardens.
Opening hours: Check at the time of your visit. We visited during COVID opening hours in the summer season.

Dunscaith Castle
Dunscaith Castle, a site known by many names; Dun Scaich,  Sgathaich Castle and Tokavaig is located on the coast in the beautiful misty isle.  This scheduled ancient monument is also known as the fortress of shadows and is named after the warrior maiden Scathach. Scathach the show, is believed to have trained the hero Cu Chulainn in combat. The Castle has also passed hands between the Clan Donald and Clan McLeod down the years too. An impressive site, with an interesting history and as with everywhere on Skye it’s surrounded by stunning scenery too -RoxyC
It’s seen better days. RoxyC wouldn’t let me climb up to it, but judging by the outside I can’t imagine there’d be much to find. Well worth a look though -TommyC.  Cost: Free

Uig Tower.
You really can enjoy the view from afar as you can’t get anywhere near it! Brilliant -TommyC. Uig Tower is located on the misty isle and is also known as Captain Fraser’s Folly. Constructed in the 1860′s this is where local tenants would have to go to pay their rent -RoxyC.  Cost: Free  Opening hours: 24/7, though to our best knowledge you cannot go inside.

Castle Ewen & The Fairy Glen
Castle Ewen is also known as the fairy castle. It’s located within the fairy glen on the isle of Skye. The Fairy Glen is an incredible landscape, it’s easy to see how this landscape has become associated with the fairies as there really is something mystical about it. -RoxyC
Ah, they’ve got us good here. It’s not actually a castle is it? I see what they did there, it’s a very castle-like rock -TommyC.

Lealt Falls
Bang them tunes out my bonnie lad -TommyC. These spectacular waterfalls were literally just on the side of the road in the beautiful isle of Skye. We were even treated to a local playing bagpipes here, is there anything more quintessentially Scottish?! -RoxyC.  Opening hours: 24/7
Cost: Free Side note: Those dots on the side of the waterfall photo; yeah, they’re the midges...

Blue John Cavern
Apparently people round here can’t pronounce french words as bleu jean is what the rock was originally called when it was taken to France to be identified. The funny stories you hear -TommyC.
Blue John Cavern is an amazing cave which is the only place in the UK that Blue John is mined. It’s super cool to walk around these caves and see the veins of Blue John running through the cave and to learn how its mined -RoxyC.
Cost: £15 adult, £11 concessions, £10 children, £45 family ticket (2 adults, 2 children).
Opening hours: Opening hours may vary depending on season. We visited during the COVID pandemic so be sure to check at the time of your travel.
Side note: I overheard staff here say to a family that they don’t allow babes in arms because you need to hold the handrails on the way down for safety. There are quite a few steps down to the bottom chamber and they get quite slippy. In some places the cave is narrow and restrictive. This may not be the best place to visit if you have very small children who would struggle with the large steps, you are in ill health or suffer from claustrophobia.

Bedford Castle
Is that it? What happened Oliver Cromwell? -TommyC
Bedford Castle today stands overlooking the River Ouse. Whilst the motte survives today in antiquity this site would have been an imposing mark on the landscape. The castle played a role in the civil war of the Anarchy and the First Baron’s war as well as the English civil war in the 17th century-RoxyB

Glamaig
Glamaig lies to the east of Sligachan and is one of only two Corbetts on Skye. Surrounded by mist Glamaig is a sight to behold - RoxyC.
What looks to be a solitary mountain from the view at Sligachan old bridge, rising up out of nowhere. Definitely going to summit this on my return visit, probably with the wife in tow. -TommyC

Old man of Storr
OK, good one, you’re thinking... Look, the reason we didn’t get any close up pictures of this bad boy is because 1, it was absolutely rammed with every tourist and camera going. And 2, you can’t really get a good close up of this beautiful phallic outcrop -TommyC
The Old man of Storr is a 60m high sea-stack which can be seen across the surrounding landscape as a rocky outcrop. This spot is popular with hikers too as you get great views of Skye from up there -RoxyC

The Fairy Bridge
The Fairy Bridge is where three rivers and roads converged. Legend has it that a Chief of the MacLeods married a fairy and they lived together on Skye. The fairy was only allowed to be with him for a year, and the bridge marks the site where the fairy departed back to her kind - RoxyC
Simple but effective. Although we didn’t find any fairies, we definitely found a confused elderly lady looking for the fairy pools. We can only hope our directions took her there. -TommyC
