Before... some leftover container experiments from last year, neglected shrubs, a lemongrass plant that had to be dig up and moved.

My mom has a botany degree and 30 years experience in gardening, and she can’t get anything to grow in this soil, so I’m not even gonna try. Time for... raised beds!

The raised bed in the middle was a gift, then I built the two 2x4 on either side plus the trellises. Need to fill with more soil, but then I’m good to go!

Planning a bunch of pole beans for the back, and might try to trellis-train some squash.Will probably do some onions and shallow-rooting stuff up front (middle bed is 6″ and sides are 8″ deep), and tomatoes in separate containers.

If all goes well, next year I may double the bed depth as an experiment.

I put these pretty little beans in the soil only 8 or 9 days ago. I tried growing them outside last year and it was an epic fail. Wasn't sure the seeds were even viable.
