You inspired me to try a tough mudder, I feel like I could be in a lot better shape and they're Coming around me in November so I got time to train and what not. I was feeling nervous about it but the way you described it has me pumped :3

adonisvinca - It is honestly terrifying, but I think the idea of it is a lot scarier than actually doing it. Like the whole, “omg! 10 miles! Obstacles! Ice water! Fire!” etc. sounds a lot more intimidating than it ends up actually feeling. When you actually get there, it’s really not so bad. 

Most of the obstacles are “moderately difficult and uncomfortable” at worst. MAYBE one or two will be really hard, which depends on your personal tastes. I hate extreme cold so the ice water obstacle was literally painful and frightening, but some other obstacles that other Mudders were struggling with (esp. the ones with heights) were like easy peasy for me. Some are just downright fun and easy, no problem at all.

Some recommended training would include endurance cardio, some distance running, upper body and grip strength training, plyo, maybe brush up on your swimming. But the Tough Mudder is perfectly appropriate for someone of a average/moderate fitness level - you don’t have to be a Marine to complete it successfully.

The hardest thing is starting. But you just get to the event, start walking/running at your own pace, take it one mile and one obstacle at a time. It’s not a race. Just have fun. You can do it! :)

I made it, actually.

I poured the jewels out of resin and set them in hoop earrings and then fastened them to a length of chain. I didn’t bother with clasps or anything for the belt, either—I literally just tie a knot in it and let the ends dangle.
