Checkup
Part 6 of the dragon and the fox
Featuring NONE of me and a bit of @emile-hides time to shine!!!!
“You seem to be doing better.” Zenyatta hummed as he hovered beside his pupil in their usual meditation spot.
“I’ve just had a lot to think about since my brother arrived. He’s… still the same as ever.” Genji sighed, his mind wistfully wandering to the way his brother smiled nearly every day around the monastary.
“I hear you’re even starting to talk to Emile these days.”
“Only cause my brother asked me to. I still don’t trust him fully with things I can do myself, but I must admit he is more interesting than I previously had him pegged for.”
“I can assure you he won’t hurt you, and even I can tell how painful your cybernetics must be.” Zenyatta mused. “It wouldn’t hurt to allow him to at least take a look at your parts for a simple checkup. I could even go with you if you’re nervous.”
“I’m not nervous!” Genji snapped grumpily before looking down at his metalic arm, wincing at the feeling of coolant running another programed course alongside his veins. “Though perhaps you have a point…”
“I always do.”
“And perhaps I should hit you.”
“You could certainly try.”

It took a few days of deliberation before Genji made any solid decision about his master’s suggestion, but eventually the burning pain in his joints overcame his mistrust of the mechanic and he finally agreed to let Zenyatta accompany him to get his parts checked out now that he no longer had Angela to do his matienence.
“Zen! What a time to visit me!” Emile called out excitedly as Genji followed his master into the repair shop to see the human mechanic lounging in his usual robes borrowed from Mondatta. “You come all this way to see lil ol me during your busy schedule, or are you here for repairs?”
“Oh no, no repairs for me, I’m functioning as normal.” Zenyatta spoke with a gentle tone, a small smile to his voice as he was ever so happy to see another pupil of his. “Actually, I am merely accompanying Genji to come see you. He finally agreed to let you take a look at his cybernetics.”
“Really?! I finally get to look at him?!” Emile jumped with excitement, a sparkling glimmer in his eyes as he surged forward.
“Just a look. Nothing else.” Genji snapped defensively as Zen nudged him forwards.
“Hey I’ll take what I can get.” Emile shrugged before patting a small stool beside him. “Go ahead and take a seat and I’ll get started.”
Hesitantly, genji shrugged off the robes he wore to cover what skin he had visible, bearing himself and his worn metal to the mechanic’s curious gaze, glancing over his shoulder at Zenyatta one last time as he stood stock still.
“Genji, I’ll be here the whole time, you needent worry.” The monk reassured. “Though if you wish to back out, you may. There’s no need to go through with something you’re not ready for unless it becomes an emergency. He will not hurt you.”
“Let’s just get this over with.” Genji groaned as he slumped onto the stool, nervously turning his back to the mechanic while his leg bounced anxiously.
Logically, he knew that nothing would happen to him, but still he couldn’t help but worry about turning his back to someone, especially not after knowing how fragile his tubes were. If they were severed, he could easily lose his life, Angela had made him very aware of that fact, and he quickly learned to use his stealth as an assasin to get the kill before he was ever spotted, never allowing the enemy a chance to get anywhere near his chords and tubes that kept him alive.
“Hey, I’m just taking a quick look. I wont touch anything without your permission Genji, I promise.” Emile spoke softly in an attempt to comfort the assasin, no matter how curious he was about the functionality of a body that kept someone from the brink of death. “Now then lets begin your checkup.”
Genji wasnt used to having himself analyzed so thoroughly by someone he barely knew, and that only made his anxiety spike even further. Of course it only made it worse that the mechanic behind him merely scowled and muttered under his breath as he searched across the ninja’s body, crimson eyes darting over exposed wires and tubes, his tongue clicking in anger at the harsh transition from metal to flesh and the pulsating scar tissue that the tubes fed into.
“Is there an issue with my body?” Genji hummed accusingly.
“Are you in pain?” Came the question, sharp and to the point.
“I’m… fine.” Came Genji’s even harsher response.
“If you say so…” Emile sighed before stepping back. “Alright, I’m done.”
“Really? Thats all?”
“That’s all. I can’t really do much more other than a quick glance around at all your exposed tubes and wires, and as of right now I can’t see anything that needs my immediate attention, though if you’re ever feeling comfortable enough for a more thurough checkup, I would recommend it, but thats up to you if you want it.”
“Then I suppose I’ll be on my way…” Genji sighed as he stood up with a wince, another sting of pain shooting through him as he rose. “I’ll keep in mind your offer.”
Genji nodded silently as he left the room, leaving the uncomfortable atmosphere to enjoy the rest of his day hovering around his brother in case he needed anything.
“You seem on edge, Emile.” Zenyatta hummed once Genji had fully left the room. “Tell me… how bad is it really?”
“I’m gonna punch whoever did that to him.” The mechanic snarled and he crossed his arms. “Zen, he had weapon storage nearly everywhere, not to mention so much else thats wrong with all of him! If any of those wires or tubes sticking out of him gets cut, he’ll die. Whoever built this had no care for his comfort, only how deadly they could make him. He’s a living, breathing weapon Zenyatta, and I can only imagine the pain he must be in.”
“It does sound quite horrific.”
“As he is now, I don’t think he’d let me even try to fix all the things thats wrong with him. He doesn’t trust me enough yet, though don’t get me wrong, I’m glad he’s started talking to me at all.”
“Could you fix his issues, if given the chance?”
“Of course I could.” Emile scoffed with a shrug. “It’d take some time, but I’d bet I could make him an entirely new body that functions a billion times better than that nightmare. But that’s his choice to make, not mine. If he’s happy in that body, so be it, but I’d help him if he asked me.”
“Then let us hope he does eventually gain the confidence to ask you, at least for his sake.”
