I know I said I was lazy two seconds ago, and then I remembered the pictures I wanted were both on AO3, and THEN I remembered my two boat drawings that I'm like also weirdly proud of were ALSO there, SO, here are basically just all my best WoC illustrations so far. And I will most likely make more if and when I get back into digital art. I still have WiPs saved for rainy days.
Conan (OC, owned by @ask-shu-todoroki )
Tumblr media
Avgustin (OC, also owned by Shu)
Tumblr media
Flysenhower (Canonical character)
Tumblr media
Kittyhawk (also a canonical character, oddly enough - but, redesigned because canon is shit)
Tumblr media
To be perfectly honest with you, while I adore all of them, design-wise I am most proud of Kitty and Avgustin, probably because they're both newer and were done after the other two, so I could only improve off of what I'd already made before.

repost for everybody else + fixed grammar/mistakes
V.1 of my "Top Gun" fun facts ramble
The original Top Gun was what inspired me to be a Navy fighter pilot  at the age of 10 (I later realized my body and brain are too f*cked up to achieve it). I have a little toy F-14, 2 shirts, a book explaining the background of the realities, the DVD, and my favorite, and old piece of filmstrip with the scene where Iceman bites at Mav in the Locker-room. I would have more but my hyper fixations change often so I have been limited to what I can buy for each interest. In place of physical objects, I have learned every piece of info I could possibly find. I’ve never had anybody to share it with, as up until “Top Gun: Maverick” came out, I was bullied for liking the original. So thank you Paramount/Tom Cruise for starting a brand new community. Anyway, here is what I know.
Sources:
Original rendition of the script
Final Edition
Random military uniform photos
My own JROTC experience
And some random tiktok I found (and lost)
The aircraft carrier that was used for filming was the “USS_Kittyhawk” (inspo for my user) sadly, unlike some other carriers, the kittyhawk was scrapped. (However, you can still go find top gun stuff at the USS Midway in San Diego.)
The plane they use is an F-14 (while the one they used near the end of TG:M was an F-14A)
Maverick’s Top Gun F-14 Tomcat Currently Features VF-84 Jolly Rogers Paint Scheme And Is On Display Aboard USS Lexington
Mav and Cougar switch RIO’s in the first scene. Goose belonging to Cougar, and WIzard belonging to Mav, with Mav being cougar’s replacement in the office scene
The song used in the club scene is "Lead Me On" by Teena Marie
There was supposed to be a pilot named “Sundown” drinking a “Flaming Hooker” and catching his hair on fire
There was also going to be no “Mav romancing Charlie with “Lost that loving feeling”” scene
Goose
The original script has wayyy more Hollywood screen time (shame they got rid of it, I love him)
Goose was supposed to get flirty with two girls despite being married
And Charlie was supposed to be way more cunty than she was
In the original movie, it was briefly mentioned that Mav had an affair with an admiral’s daughter (Penny) but instead went after Charlie, but in TG:M, Charlie is nowhere to be seen, instead bringing back Penny. The reason for this is that Charlie's actor came out as Lesbian.
Val Kilmer didn't want to do the movie on account of it being military propaganda, but was tricked into it (he tanked his audition on purpose, but still got the role)
Before this, Tom Cruise had never done an action movie in his life, and was on the fence about it,
to convince him to do it. The Navy sent out the Blue Angels to take him on a ride. The pilots had the idea to make Tom so sick that he would never touch a plane ever again
They failed, he loved it, making him Tom Cruise: Professional mad man
It should also be noted that Tom had shown up to be flown by the Blue Angels fresh off the set of LEGEND (1985 dir. Ridley Scott) where he played a wood sprite (?), had long hair, looked even twinkier than he did in Top Gun, and had spent the whole movie covered in glitter. So when the Reagon era pilots who were tasked with flying the pretty boy actor to convince him to represent  them in a movie, all immediately decided that the twink needed to be obliterated.
It’s also important to know that they were looking homophobically at a long haired, glittery, 22 year old twink…who we later found out that likes to be obliterated
So say thank you to the homophobic Blue Angels pilots for being the reason your gay fanfiction and sexual photos even exist
Mav’s name was supposed to be Evan….(who tf came up with evan???)
In the script, Maverick's first name was Evan. It was changed to Pete in the final film as a tip of the hat to technical advisor Pete "Viper" Pettigrew, seen in the film as the man Charlie is meeting at the bar in her first appearance in the film.
Having been in the Navy since the 1980s, Maverick, at the time of the sequel, has been in the Navy for more than 30 years. Unless you achieve the rank of rear admiral or above, normally after 30 years of service, there is mandatory retirement that is extremely difficult to prevent, without intervention from the secretary of the Navy, the defense secretary, the president, or an act from Congress.
There is a discrepancy in his awards from the first movie to the second. In the second movie, Maverick does not wear the Navy Expeditionary Medal and the Humanitarian Service Medal, which he wears in the first.
There is also a discrepancy in the order of precedence of his awards in the second movie. Maverick wears the ribbon for Global War on Terrorism Service Medal in the seventh row (second row from the bottom), first position. The ribbon is actually supposed to worn after the National Defense Service Medal in the fifth row, second position (middle). All of his other awards are in the correct order of precedence in the movie.
I know that because I was JROTC before I dropped out…. No I was not one of those kids…I only did it because I wanted to advance my Navy career…which I didn't even get
Nick “Goose” Bradshaw is based very heavily on the real life person, Luis Claudio Jaramillo. He was also a RIO at TOPGUN and flew a decade or so before Top Gun was "set". He died in similar circumstances to how Goose does in Top Gun when he had to eject from his plane after an engine fault. His pilot, Lt. Daniel "Ace" Oxley was investigated for the incident but ultimately found not guilty.
According to his Iceman’s medal record, he had participated in the Liberation of Kuwait during the Gulf War and the Afghanistan and Iraq Wars during the Global War on Terrorism.
In his portrait as an 4-star admiral, there are several errors in the order of precedence for his medal ribbons
The Meritorious Service Medal is used twice. For two of the same ribbon to be displayed side-by-side, it would need to be his fifteenth, nineteenth, twentieth, twenty-third, twenty-fourth, or twenty-fifth award. Based on one 5⁄16 inch star device (silver), it's only his sixth award. A seventh award is denoted as a single ribbon with one 5⁄16 inch star device (silver) and one 5⁄16 inch star device (gold); not one ribbon with one 5⁄16 inch star device (silver) to denote sixth award and an extra blank ribbon to denote seventh award.
The Sea Service Deployment Ribbon is used twice. It is seen erroneously in the middle of the fourth row down, and again appropriately on the right side of the second row from the bottom.
On the very bottom row from left to right is: Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia), Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait), and United Nations Medal. The United Nations Medal should be worn before the other two; meaning it should be in the bottom left corner, not the bottom right corner.
The Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy "E" Ribbon, Navy Expeditionary Medal, and Humanitarian Service Medal present in Top Gun are absent in Top Gun: Maverick.
Again…this was my autistic hyperfixation for 6 years, and being in JROTC gives you some good info
Now to the stuff I do know about Top Gun: Maverick
According to Hangman, Bradley's callsign 'Rooster' comes from his tendency of waiting during the fight for the right moment, just like a rooster that waits for the sun to rise.
In real life, Maverick "pulling" Bradley's papers would not necessarily have set him back four years, if he attended a civilian university and enrolled in Navy ROTC, or graduated and then attended OCS. He would enter as an officer, thus making it possible for him to compete for selection as an aviator.
According to Bradley's military file he graduated from The University of Virginia in 2009. It also shows four years of prior enlisted service, rising to the rate of HT2. There is, however, a contradiction in that the start of his active enlisted service is listed as 2006.
Bradley majored and got his Bachelor's degree in Political Science.
Bradley also took Spanish 1010 (SPAN 1010 and 1020 are courses reserved exclusively for true beginners, students who have never studied Spanish before entering UVA. SPAN 1010 and SPAN 1020 are offered during Summer Session only.)
Actor, Glen Powell would later portray another Naval aviator named Tom Hudner in the upcoming 2022 film "Devotion", which was based on the book and set in the Korean War.
Glen Powell is the only actor from Top Gun: Maverick to portray another U.S. Navy pilot in the same year.
After Top Gun: Maverick, actor Glen Powell worked as a producer alongside J.J. Abrams to develop the 2024 documentary film The Blue Angels; using the same type of advanced camera technology that was specifically created and used to film Top Gun: Maverick.
I suggest you go watch both of those movies if you haven’t…I saw the BA documentary in theaters, it was dope…idk if they are putting it on streaming services tho
If you are a fanfic writer and go watch Devotion…. PLEASE write some Tom Hudner x reader shit…. there is quite literally nothing and that man is so hot its not funny
Prior to the special mission detachment, Phoenix was assigned/attached to strike fighter squadron VFA-41 Black Aces.
When meeting Bob, Phoenix mentions he is from Lemoore. The VFA-41 Black Aces also have a homeport in Lemoore.
Payback and Fanboy's fighter jet as part of the mission training group is an F/A-18F model #501.
(as viv mentioned) During the beach football scene, Bob is the only character to wear a shirt. His actor, Lewis Pullman, revealed that he felt Bob wouldn't be the type of person to take his shirt off.
Initially, the scene was supposed to be a 'shirts vs skins' scenario, however some of the cast who were selected to be a 'shirt' wanted to show off all of the hard work and effort they put into getting physically fit for their role and switched to be a 'skin' instead. This inspired others to switch, eventually leaving Bob the only remainder.
However I should also note, a similarity with the 1986 Volleyball scene, Goose is the only one to have a shirt on (and I think that might be the reason Lewis did it, but i could be very wrong)
The font on Fanboy's helmet alludes to him being a "Star Trek" fanboy.

IMAGES: Six million people followed the C-17 online taking Queen Elizabeth II's coffin to London
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 09/13/2022 - 21:42in Military
Queen Elizabeth II's coffin arrived in London aboard a Royal Air Force C-17 Globemaster, after making the last trip that left Scotland. Flight tracking on the internet almost overturned the online tracking system.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Upon arrival at the airport in Scotland, members of the Royal Air Force carrier group loaded the queen's coffin to the RAF C-17 and were accompanied by an honor guard from the Royal Scottish Regiment. When the aircraft began to taxi for takeoff, the Honor Guard gave a last royal greeting, with the regiment band playing a verse from the national anthem.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After takeoff and with the transponder turned on, Queen Elizabeth II's final flight was accompanied by a record number of people on the Flightradar 24 online flight tracking platform. The site reported on social networks that it had instability due to the large number of people (almost 6 million) who followed the historic flight.
Tumblr media
The aircraft carrying the queen's coffin landed at Northolt RAF Base after leaving Edinburgh airport around 5:45 p.m. The C-17 used the 'Kittyhawk' call signal for the last time.
Tumblr media
Accompanying the coffin on the queen's last flight - to RAF Northolt in London - was Royal Princess Anne and her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, who had followed the funeral car in another car.
Tumblr media
Members of the Honor Guard gathered at the airfield of Northolt RAF Base before the Queen's arrival. The guard consists of three officers and 96 sub-officials and gunners from The Queen's Colour Squadron.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They transferred the coffin to the official funeral car, which took the queen to Buckingham Palace before her funeral on Monday. Earlier today, around 4:20 p.m., the king and the queen consort left Belfast City airport to return to London before the arrival of the queen's coffin. Meanwhile, crowds gathered in the rain at Buckingham Palace while waiting for the arrival of the royal procession.
Tumblr media
The coffin will now be in Westminster Hall until its funeral, with hundreds of thousands of people waiting to line up from 5 p.m. on Wednesday to pay tribute.

To minimize interruptions in England's air traffic, the UK Foreign Ministry has requested world leaders to travel to England on commercial flights, whenever possible. The office warned that London Heathrow would not be available for private flights or aircraft parking and that helicopter flights between airports and locations would not be allowed due to air traffic.
Tumblr media
Passengers flying through airports in the United Kingdom were also informed that "unforeseen events may require commercial and private flights to be diverted from the intended arrival airport". In addition to asking world leaders to fly commercially, the government has asked leaders to show up at a location outside London to be transported to Westminster Abbey by bus to minimize vehicle traffic in London.

• Battle of Milne Bay
The Battle of Milne Bay, also known as the Battle of Rabi by the Japanese, was a battle of the Pacific campaign of World War II.
Milne Bay is a sheltered 97-square-mile (250 km2) bay at the eastern tip of the Territory of Papua (now part of Papua New Guinea). It is 22 miles (35 km) long and 10 miles (16 km) wide, and is deep enough for large ships to enter. The coastal area is flat with good aerial approaches, and therefore suitable for airstrips, although it is intercut by many tributaries of rivers and mangrove swamps. The first troops arrived at Milne Bay from Port Moresby in the Dutch KPM ships Karsik and Bontekoe, escorted by the sloop HMAS Warrego and the corvette HMAS Ballarat on June 25th. The troops included two and a half companies and a machine gun platoon from the 55th Infantry Battalion of the 14th Infantry Brigade, the 9th Light Anti-Aircraft Battery with eight Bofors 40 mm guns, a platoon of the US 101st Coast Artillery Battalion. On July 11th, troops of the 7th Infantry Brigade, under the command of Brigadier John Field, began arriving to bolster the garrison. The brigade consisted of three Militia battalions from Queensland, the 9th, 25th and 61st Infantry Battalions.
Japanese aircraft soon discovered the Allied presence at Milne Bay, which was appreciated as a clear threat to Japanese plans for another seaborne advance on Port Moresby, which was to start with a landing at Samarai Island in the China Strait, not far from Milne Bay. On July 31st the commander of the Japanese XVII Army, Lieutenant General Harukichi Hyakutake, requested that Vice Admiral Gunichi Mikawa's 8th Fleet capture the new Allied base at Milne Bay instead. Under the misconception that the airfields were defended by only two or three companies of Australian infantry (300–600 men), the initial Japanese assault force consisted of only about 1,250 personnel. The Imperial Japanese Army (IJA) was unwilling to conduct the operation as it feared that landing barges sent to the area would be attacked by Allied aircraft. As a result, the assault force was drawn from the Japanese naval infantry, known as Kaigun Rikusentai (Special Naval Landing Forces). led by Commander Masajiro Hayashi, were scheduled to land on the east coast near a point identified by the Japanese as "Rabi", along with 197 men from the 5th Sasebo SNLF, led by Lieutenant Fujikawa.
Following the battle, the chief of staff of the Japanese Combined Fleet, Vice Admiral Matome Ugaki, assessed that the landing force was not of a high calibre as it contained many 30- to 35-year-old soldiers who were not fully fit and had "inferior fighting spirit". The Japanese enjoyed some initial advantage in the form of possessing two Type-95 light tanks. After an initial attack, however, these tanks became marooned in the mud and abandoned. They also had control of the sea during the night, allowing reinforcement and later evacuation. Over the course of the 23th and 24th of August, aircraft carried out preparatory bombing around the airfield at Rabi. The main Japanese invasion force left Rabaul on August 24th, under Matsuyama's command.
on August 24th, reports of the second Japanese convoy, consisting of seven barges, which had sailed from Buna carrying the force that would land at Taupota were also received at this time. In response to this sighting, after the initially poor weather had cleared, 12 RAAF Kittyhawks were scrambled at midday. The barges were spotted beached near Goodenough Island where the 350 troops of the 5th Sasebo SNLF, led by Commander Tsukioka, had gone ashore to rest. The Australian pilots then proceeded to strafe the barges and, over the course of two hours, destroyed them all. After the initial sighting, the main invasion force, consisting of the heavy naval screening force and the two transports, remained elusive until the morning of August 25th. In an effort to intercept it, US B-17s were dispatched, although they were unable to complete their mission as bad weather closed in. By dawn of August 26th, advancing west along the coast with armoured support, the Japanese had reached the main inland. Japanese force moved through the jungle at the edge of the coastal track, and was headed by two light tanks. Although they lacked anti-armour weapons, the Australians were able to turn back the Japanese attack. At this stage, the Japanese suffered a serious setback when their base area was heavily attacked at daylight by RAAF Kittyhawks and other Allied aircraft.
As a result of the attack, a number of Japanese troops were killed, while a large quantity of supplies was destroyed, as were a number of the landing barges which were beached. The Japanese did not have any air cover as the fighters, which were to patrol over Milne Bay were shot down by Allied fighters shortly after they took off and other aircraft were halted by poor weather. Nevertheless, the Japanese were still pressing on the Australian Battalion's positions throughout the day. The muddy ground meant that the Australians were unable to move anti-tank guns into position; however, as a stop-gap measure quantities of sticky bombs and anti-tank mines were moved up to the forward units. Australians launched a minor attack upon the Japanese forward positions which were located about 600 yards (550 m) away, pushing the Japanese back a further 200 yards (180 m).
Following continued fighting on the 25th, for the next two days there was a lull in the fighting. During this time, the Australians consolidated their defences. The 61st Infantry Battalion, despite being seriously depleted from the previous fighting, were ordered back to the airfield. Later that night the Japanese began forming up along the track at the eastern end of the airstrip by the sea, and at 3:00 am on August 31st they launched their attack. The first Japanese attack was repelled by heavy machine gun and mortar fire from Australian and American troops. A further two banzai charges were attempted only to meet the same fate, with heavy Japanese casualties, including the Japanese commander. after the survivors of the attack had reformed, he led them north of the airstrip in an attempt to outflank the Allied positions on Stephen's Ridge near the airfield. After running into a platoon of Australians who engaged them with Bren light machine guns, the Japanese withdrew just before dawn. Japanese troops who survived this attack were shocked by the heavy firepower the Allied forces had been able to deploy, and the assault force was left in a state of disarray.
On the morning September 1st, the Allied Infantry Battalions went on the offensive, while a force of seven Kittyhawks attacked the Japanese headquarters. By this time, the Japanese had abandoned the objective of reaching the airfields and instead sought only to hold off the Australians long enough to be evacuated. This information was not known by the Allies, however, who were in fact expecting the Japanese to undertake further offensive action. With the Japanese position at Milne Bay close to collapse, on September 2nd, a sent a radio message was sent to the headquarters of the 8th Fleet, "We shall defend our position to our deaths." After further fighting between remaining Japanese forces and Allied forces advancing on their position, The remaining Japanese troops were evacuated by two barges and the light cruiser Tenryū rescued them two days later. Finding themselves heavily outnumbered, lacking supplies and suffering heavy casualties, the Japanese withdrew their forces, with fighting coming to an end on September 7th, 1942. The battle is often described as the first major battle of the war in the Pacific in which Allied troops decisively defeated Japanese land forces.

Title: Code Name Verity
Author: Elizabeth Wein
My Review: While I didn’t expect this to be a recent favorite, Code Name Verity was surprisingly enjoyable. As with many books I love the most, it focused more on the characters and their story and development alongside the plot. Both Verity and Kittyhawk are fantastic characters with very distinct personalities that I was easily able to latch onto and find traits in to love. Written in past-tense narrative form, the plot was sometimes held secondary to make way for both girls’ personal feelings and perceptions of the plot. But in no way was it a boring book on account of that. I still felt the twists and turns and the unexpected plot pieces as hard as any other book. One of my personal favorite aspects of Code Name Verity was the friendship between the two girls. I often find myself bored with romantic subplots in stories that take too much of the focus and this book had little to no romance at all — and I loved it! The girls are very close with each other and the way they talk about each other so affectionately made it very clear without putting any pressure for romance. For that reason, I felt it was very real to life. The depth of their friendship was something I found myself admiring and it was portrayed exceptionally by Wein. Code Name Verity gets 4/5 from me for the character development and emotions evoked throughout the story.

One thing that I like about Australia is having a similar building or structure if not in all cities but on its major cities, so tourist can see and visit the place to appreciate and to enjoy wherever you are in the country. I remembered the same concept also exist in Canada,  they have structures that can be found in some cities as well. A good example is Telus World of Science, a museum where I visited one in Edmonton and saw from a distance in Vancouver. Another example is Provincial Legislature Building exist in Alberta and British Columbia, and in other provinces of Canada.
Based on my observation while traveling around Australia, arcade building is one good example of a structure that can be found in major cities of the country. These arcades are historical buildings which showcases how grandeur the building was during earlier years and portrays its notable 19th century interior design that can make everyone feel to be back in old times. In relation to arcades, I perceived Queen Victoria Building as the mother of all historical arcades in Australia. I explained why in my previous post.
How about for the memorial structure that intended to honor and remember the Australian heroes that fought for the peace that Australian currently enjoying nowadays? In relation to this, I looked at Australian War Memorial as the father of all peace or remembrance structure in the country. During my stay in Australia I visited two(2) structures that significantly honors and remembers the heroes that served for the country’s peace. One was Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne and the one that I will be focusing in this post is The Australian War Memorial in Canberra. The group tour that I joined that day visited the structure after coming from Mount Ainslie Lookout.

Australian War Memorial – looks so far from Parliament House Rooftop
Tumblr media
Australian War Memorial (with dome), just at the bottom of base of Mount Ainslie
The first time I saw the building for real was at the time I was at the rooftop of Parliament House in that same day I visited the memorial museum, the structure is noticeable even from a far distance. I got a clear visibility of it, while we were at Mount Ainslie Lookout where anyone get noticed that the building is a cross structure with a dome in the middle. And when we arrived at the building itself, I can sense immediately the solemn ambiance that surrounds the building. The external design of the building signifies how these heroes are important to Australian and I honestly admired them the way they honor and respect these people.

Australian War Memorial from Memorial Grounds
Due to limited time in the building since it was our last place in the day tour’s itinerary and near for closing time, I wasn’t able to see all of the parts of the memorial but I still tried my best to capture photos inside the building. Apology at some of the photos are not as clear, at the time of the trip, I used iPhone 4 and Panasonic digital camera.
Here are some of the photos that I was able to capture while visiting Australian War Memorial:

Before we end the tour in the building, there was Last Post ceremony being held at Commemorative Area wherein the memorial bids farewell to the visitors with the ceremony with singing of the Australian National Anthem, followed by a sound of the piper. Some visitors put some flowers as tributes besides the Pool of Reflection, then a story of one of the names listed in the Honor Roll will be told, followed by Ode recitation and ended by sound of Last Post. A ceremony that I witnessed that shows recognition and respect to the heroes of Australians.

Australian War Memorial – the last snapshots before leaving the memorial and before ending my day tour in Canberra.
Australian War Memorial One thing that I like about Australia is having a similar building or structure if not in all cities but on its major cities, so tourist can see and visit the place to appreciate and to enjoy wherever you are in the country.

I am oddly tempted to give Kittyhawk a facelift. I mean c’mon, look at the poor thing, he got the short end of the stick. 2010 was not kind to him.
Tumblr media
Honestly I would not be surprised if they looked back at him when they were making Planes and thought “Yeah um. Let’s do way better this time, yeah?”
I just. His eyes, man. He has seen things he should not have seen. Also his lip, is he...does he have an allergy? Why is he, why? Can we help this man? I think at some point I am going to try to help this man. It’s the least I can do for the poor thing.
(Also are we in agreement his eyes are brown? I’m trying to squint for reference and I believe that to be a shade of brown.)

*sigh* I didn't ask for this. But they are taking up real estate in my brain.
Boats will be boats.
Tumblr media
(I need to come up with ways to better differentiate these two in sketch forms, the only main difference here is that Flysenhower has a black band on a light hat and Kitty Hawk's is all dark. That and Flysenhower gets more antennae because idk)

I'm going to get fucking sued aren't I? *sigh* so they might have people designs now. And might be a ship. And have a couple of small headcanons because neither of them will leave me alone today...
Tumblr media
Headcanons thus far:
-For the peopley thing the names were bothering me because they didn't make sense, so technically they are admirals James (Flysenhower) and William (Kitty Hawk). But people call them by the names of the ships they command also. Just, thats not their name names. That would be weird.
-Kitty Hawk is in fact older (canonically, even) than Flysenhower, though he sure as hell doesn't look or act like it. He is a sixty someodd year old manchild.
-James got some scarring, some scratches on his chin. Not sure when, where, how, or why, BUT it's there.
-James is a skinny skeleton thing. I mean his suit makes him tall and menacing but he's still super thin. Kitty meanwhile has a little "extra". He is cuddly, as he says.
-*cough* ...Kitty would top- *cough cough* What, what's that, who said that? No one did. You're hallucinating.

While I was just talking about Bravo and Echo, these two came to mind:
I doubt the Flysenhower ever was a family man, by any means. If you know my headcanon, you know he wasn’t always a naval ship, but even before his decision, he had a very mediocre, apathetic family, never married, and had no children. I think it’s less that he didn’t want to (see also: that blink and you’ll miss it moment in the fic with an unidentified individual) and more that he had things which outweighed those desires. Literally, he made his decision. And because he made it, he doesn’t see a point in going back and dwelling on it.
Now Kittyhawk, on the other hand (em...rudder?) I could see being a guy that wanted a family, but never had the chance to. He strikes me as a guy who grew up in a big family with lots of kids, and who probably did mess around in his youth but it never got him anywhere with anyone. Post-decision, he’s got no choice now but to do what he’s doing, but it doesn’t make him any less of a noticeably empathetic family man giving out “best uncle” vibes.
(This is probably another reason why I just randomly decided “hey I’ll ship that” - no pun intended - because the two are literally polar opposites and that kind of friction makes such a delicious chemistry, I haven’t got the first clue how to write a navy fic and I’m not gonna try anytime soon but if anybody wants to do a Flysenhawk fic, go for it, I will be eternally grateful XD)

Listen man, they just leave and come back with headcanons, like stray cats leaving dead mice on my porch at two in the morning, okay? It’s not my fault that Kittyhawk just DECIDED this was his shit now. Anyways, here’s a few headcanons because I want him to shut the fuck up back here.
-Out of all the current day carriers, Kitty is probably one of the least professional among them. He’s a bit of an oddball out compared to the rest of them (as seen above) simply from his more laid-back, easygoing nature and “dad qualities”
-I’m willing to wager that because of the above, he’s probably also among the least qualified to have even upgraded to such a status. Or if he was, he only just barely squeaked by on it, and it kinda shows.
-He’s not actually a dad, though that’s probably something he would have liked to be pre-decision. But he is a kid guy, and a complete softie. Would probably make immediate besties with Dusty if he ever visited.
-Flysenhower is likely the first, if not only other carrier he’s actually gotten really close with, purely because while Flysenhower is his polar opposite, he’s still empathetic, and rather humbled by Kitty’s carefree vibe (just...he never admits that).
-In a humanized format, I literally think that he has a nature like OFMD’s Stede Bonnet. Truly, he has the vibe. (I bet you can guess then who Blackbeard’s equivalent is. By the way, hopefully, I will be making a short drabble around that like...one day. When I stop being burnt out and sad about my shriveled up brain)
-Naturally a *little* clumsy
-Would be the guy to wear Hawaiian flower shirts
-Has also probably had like three different mid-life and late-life crises, and the abrupt break in his bubbly nature to become practically depressed has put Flysenhower in a panic on more than one occasion.

Autumn Blues
Author’s Note: You know it’s gonna be a long discussion when I have to open a Google Document around it…[also: this was planned ahead of time for after my surgery. Wanted to make sure I was alive and all. Which I am, though I now have a mouth full of holes and blood. Good times.]
In summary, this post is another personal one, and I likely won't be doing so again very much, if at all, until October. There's several reasons why, but it's mostly for my health. I also want to address something about unfollowing and/or blocking some people, which is relevant to said health.
In case you find you've been unfollowed, or in a single case, blocked, please do not take them personally. These have nothing to do with the individuals; I have not been wronged, I was not offended, there was no personal reason towards any other person that is the cause of these things. I have finally come to the decision, after almost a year of push-and-pull attempts, to cut out military/navy/air force topics from my dash and from several areas of my life. They've been collective semi-tolerable triggers for a long time now, and though I have been trying to overcome it with exposure and engagement, it has reached my capacity of tolerance, and I really do not have the mental strength to risk it anymore. I do admire and respect my mutuals that post on these areas, as they all have amazing content and they're wonderful people. But for the sake of my well-being, I need to walk away from this area. This is also why I’ve officially added these topics into my Discord carrd under a list of potential triggers, as while tolerable, they can easily capsize.
I still intend to post the occasional Kittyhawk or Flysenhower bit, but only to minimal, controllable amounts. There are simply too many unwanted memories surrounding the fandom circles of those characters for me to apply myself too much to them. My enjoyment of the characters are for almost entirely different reasons than most, and so any future posts of or around them will mostly only apply to that aspect of it. I like them for me, not for the sake of anyone else, and I need to stop convincing myself that those are the same things. Easier said than done of course, but it's a process, not an event. I spent too long convincing myself to enjoy something for the sake of other people, and now I'm un-convincing myself of that.
The reason for my extended hiatus is partially because of this, but additionally for the reason that I desperately need to recollect myself after this massive burnout. The transitional weeks between July and August were so hard on me in so many ways that I dropped writing and art almost entirely for a good bit. When your natural instinct is to doodle and drabble daily, that's a scary thing to realize.
I'm really trying to come to grips with my own abilities right now, my limitations, and how to still be productive with these limitations. People in person have been clawing at me for commission work, and I barely managed halfway through the last one before giving up on the time constraints and cutting my estimated pay in half to compensate. Commissions are not something I can feasibly do, even lightly, let alone as a main source of income. As well, my requests, gifts, and personal projects have all been collectively piling up, and the paper tower of those ideas has fallen down as a result. It's a mess.
The time I'm taking off is to rest and reorganize the mess, hopefully with finished projects I can check off the list finally. As bad as I feel for taking such a long break amidst an incomplete and long overdue major collaboration, I NEED to take this time off if I have any hope of even finishing it. And I need to continue making personal adjustments and filters to my feed, lest the precious bits of creative energy I have left be drained faster than they should be.
I am - again - stupidly grateful for all of my friends and people who have my back in this admittedly terrifying change. Shu, Mac, Dusty, Storm, other Storm (yeah there's two lol), Bobbly, Rotor, Jackal, all of the rest of the Volo Pro Veritas cult, my social media mutuals and friends, and anyone else who has reached out. It's really scary, admitting that I am not as strong as I once was, that my trauma has put limitations on me, even in the places where I feel safest and most at home. But no one else is or has ever been obligated to take care of me; that's my job. And I've really been needing to clean the junk out of these corners of my brain.
If you were able to make it down this far, thank you again so much for the bit of support in this effort. I'm not down for the count just yet, so long as I'm still breathing I'll find a way to do what I love. Even if that means scaling back a little bit.
Got ideas and plans for future projects, but not leaving any details here. They'll get done when they get done, and I'm very excited to show you all the finished products. Here's to the morrow, fans and freaks. Take care of yourselves, and I'll see you on the other side.
