STUPID POLITICAL IDEAS I HAVE HAD #3
Total financial transparency. Any purchase or transfer of over $1000 is logged and posted publicly as it happens, searchable by spender and recipient. We can carve out some exceptions (stuff that would be covered by HIPAA, etc) but most of it is just out there. Find out what your coworkers are making, what your elected officials are spending their money on, where all that money is coming from, who’s buying crypto and who’s withdrawing interesting amounts of cash. Make financial crime much, much easier to prosecute and tax avoidance more difficult. Make conspicuous consumption redundant. As long as we’re stuck with the panopticon we might as well democratize it.

tbh i think that even unwinnable fights should be winnable. some of the BEST fights i've ever run as a dm were ones i built kill the players (in a fun way. I had some cutscenes prepped so even the loss would be a different flavour of win)- but then they were clever bastards and managed to either win the fights or pull themselves out of trouble. I think it's perfectly fine to plan for a fight that players aren't supposed to win, but you need to let them. if they can't win, they can't lose, and the meaning of that encounter is diminished. do that too many times, and they stop trusting you to give them roleplay prompts and start expecting to sit there waiting while you drive the story for them.
but if they can win... if there is always the chance to win, no matter how impossible the odds, then they ALWAYS have hope. they always get invested. they feel the big emotions of success or the big emotions of failure, and you fucking Win as a dm/roleplay prompter/lead bastard.
#qsmp neg#qsmp crit#discourse#<- for blacklists#im not grumping or anything im just musing on like. the mechanics of why everyone is so upset about the latest fight#and how it can be avoided while still keeping these fights genuinely difficult and intense#its hard because there's so many players and they all have wildly different strengths and weaknesses#so someone who could take on the code easy needs that enemy scaled differently than someone who isn't a big fighter#but it's hard to do that in a world where they interact w the same enemy#and you only have so much man-power to cater to a big server like this one#and then you bring in the big powerful items that the players can and can't access but which the admins have ultimate power over#and the fact that some of the admins themselves have lag issues or aren't super great at pvp so they accommodate that with better gear#and it starts getting messy#but for the fights themselves yeah regardless of what armour or gear or killing-methods they use there should Always be a win condition#and idk maybe there was one and we just didn't get to see it#but if that win condition is 'parents sit in the safe room with their babies while the others are overrun'#then i think there are ways to build better win conditions#anyway i love game design and player/dm interactions qsmp hire me now i want to know your behind the scenes#jk im too busy to apply#but man. i wanna nerd out so bad that sometimes i think about it

job market misery
#job interview happened. it. went so unbelievably well and then Hours later i get an email that they already offered to someone else#my life is a joke im getting so desperate. my property taxes just DOUBLED nobody in my house has stable income and im stressed#its been months of nothing in animation so i work a desk job but im getting less than half the hours i was promised#like i want to pivot my career i want to do something else im not even picky on what. i thrive in logistics and coordination type roles#but ive applied to 150+ jobs with Nothing. hospital i have an in with? Nothing. gov jobs? Nothing#im willing to move at this point. i dont care. i want to work i want to be stable and boring and happy again.#if someone has advice pls im listening. if someone knows places thatd hire a girl with an animation degree and proj admin experience.#im so miserable too bc it was the ideal role. it was a creative coordinating role i wouldve been PERFECT. they even SAID i was AUGHHH#seriously like i know it seems desperate but im serious if ppl have advice or ideas or leads lmk. my savings areeeeee taking hits

Good news: after a lot of weeks, my air conditioner is fixed!! Also good news: I caught an error in the software at work that was impacting both contractor pay and customer invoicing! Bad news: going through large amounts of data loosely falls under the purview of the department I am now sort of in charge of, which meant my department (which is me and two other people) had to individually open every single order from [specific subset of customers] since the beginning of the year to manually check if either error had occurred. Hundreds of orders, even with a few different criteria we could use to narrow it down. It's done though! I mean the error is not fixed but previous instances of it causing problems are caught and now that we know it exists we can catch future problems before they are invoiced/paid out I have done zero crafting today and I honestly doubt I will get any done lol
#the person behind the yarn#tj talks about work#I am sort of in charge of a department now?#that department is basically data entry/admin#in that my previous job title used to handle contractors and contractor paperwork#but they were not doing as much scheduling because so much time was spent on paperwork#so as a trial run they had me take over doing all the paperwork for two other [job title] as well as my own#which is not hard for me. I've been processing this exact kind of paperwork at one job or another for over a decade#and that helped a lot so they switched things around gave me less contractors#and hired two more people to handle paperwork and a few other data crunch-y office tasks#and I trained them both? and have the ability to assign them tasks and declare things to be part of my department's job#so I am sort of de facto the head of our little department#which is very funny to me because in my previous job a few years back I was the head of the bookkeeping department#because the entire department was me#it was a difficult department to keep on task but I managed lol#more seriously the two people with me in the paperwork department now are absolutely great#they are super nice and we work really well together#we had a conference call between the three of us with a screenshare while I figured out how to fix one of their IT problems#unrelated to the other problem I caught later in the day

me a week ago: i love my job!!
me now, after having a mid-year review that amounted to you’re doing an excellent job and you bring such a valuable perspective to our practice but i don’t have the ability to give you a raise right now but don’t worry bc i just hired a new CFO to try to figure out money so we can maybe give you a raise later this year: *breaks into a cold sweat as i crack open indeed dot com*
#like how have you hired FOUR new employees in the past year (two new providers a new admin assistant and now a CFO)#without having plans for people to level up?#also i have talked to a friend who got hired at a similar practice a few months after me and she’s already making way more than me!#and you know who else makes more than i do?#my 19yo nephew who didn’t even finish high school. to be fair he’s grinding way more than he should#but also so am i!!#my disabled ass is working 6-7 days/week almost every week and i can barely afford to LIVE in the city where i live!!!#anyway don’t mind me i’m only apartment hunting#while also knowing that my paycheck is about to be hundreds of dollars lighter every month bc my health insurance is about to kick in#right now it’s either looking like we are gonna have to live in the world’s shittiest apartment (not even in the nice part of the city) or#we might just have to find something outside the city. which would be farther from work and friends and everything#yes i am having a full mental breakdown every single day and it’s only gonna get worse bc i’m due to start pmsing any second now#and also my last day at my hospital job is this weekend#bc everyone (including my boss) has encouraged me to quit and focus on only the one job#so now that’s also at least a few hundred bucks more i won’t be making every month#godddddddd#i hate it here i hate it here#did you know? having a fulfilling job still sucks if you aren't fairly compensated???#this is also what happens when you are part of a hot girl profession where everyone else is married to husbands with tech jobs#so they don't have to worry about money like this#anyway anyway anyway#i have never had anxiety so high that i feel as if i might puke before and i used to have a panic disorder so this is a fun new experience#a nice cherry on top of the typical summer depression which is also beating my ass yet again!

Didn't get to smoke before work this morning (also not at all confident I took my meds) and while I'm managing the immense stress of the day (hello three new projects) rather well I'm reminded that the ritual of a spliff and a cup of coffee does in fact help keep my teeth dull and my temper subdued
#asked my fellow hiring committee members one of whom is my supervisor if i was really the only person who liked one candidate#and was blatantly honest that I think the issue at hand is the ego/insecurities of the man who oversees this role/department#and we have to toe the line of choosing someone good for the job and who wont be bullied by him/clash with him 24/7#and id been shocked that i was the only one who saw potential in one or two candidates and ultimately i think it's due#to the fact im less willing to let the supervisors insecurities/ego play a role in this. and i said as much#and the response was a laugh and 'well shit everyone duck for cover he might hear us james is getting nasty '#and I'm not really im just tired of pretending like that isnt the core of the issue here. his ego has been wounded for the whole o last yeat#*year and now he's continuously making it everyone else's problem and whomever gets this role with be the Andy to his Miranda#except he has so little to offer in terms of real guidance i feel. hes going to bully and boast and be petty to whomever gets chosen#but any attempt to say that to leadership will get waved away ultimately because he's leadership and he's fought to get his own admin#so rather than get someone with a diverse and varied skill set who can match him in work and intensity#we'll end up with some kid who probably cant set boundaries and will get steamrolled completely#so yeah im irritated by the whole process. and my lack of meds today is making it hard to play nice about it

i feel like there’s gotta be at least one high school teen tv show that eventually becomes a high-stakes political drama focusing on the kind of administrative corruption and bureaucratic bullshit that happens in high schools sometimes that mostly just ends up getting revealed to the most dedicated student council members and the occasional very passionate teacher. because i feel like it’s common enough to be something people have commented on but not common enough to be an actual trope.
#yes i did watch Jake stalvey’s video.#which i probably didn’t have to specify because it has 882 views#but if you want to hear about administrative corruption and incompetency and also the struggles of running a high school news station#check it out#ngl im lucky that in-school admin was mostly pretty chill for the stuff i was doing in hs.#the main problems at my school were some people still being hired despite the fact they Really Shouldn’t because muh sports team#and also somebody who was creepy at another school got transferred to my school instead of firing the guy from being a teacher..#oh and also i kinda suspect the school board is refusing to give trans people full-time positions or at least Making It Very Difficult#but i also do not have evidence for that aside from anecdotally having quite a few trans subs/temps but no full-time trans teachers.#i could theoretically write about this if i put effort into research but also i am eepy

Except, as I slowly realized, I don’t have a big platform anymore. Engagement on all my posts is down dramatically under the new system, and a post that would’ve racked up a thousand RTs immediately is now lingering for days with a dozen or so.
I think my fellow (former) big accounts there need to realize that we’re experiencing a bit of a phantom limb syndrome. We still have a big number of followers, but they’re not actually seeing what we post and we’re not remotely having the impact that we once did (or at least thought we did)."

god. sometimes i really hate those "10 jobs that you can do WITHOUT a qualification that pay over 100k" and they list something like "human resource management" 130k a year!!! when like. EVERY fucking HR job (and other jobs like this, say like librarian- something that i PAID 17k for and burnt out for in postgrad lmao) strictly DEMAND that candidates must have 1-2 years experience AND an HR DEGREE.
very, very, very, very rarely i see something in HR requiring a TAFE (aussie technical college) certificate (ie MUCH cheaper- 7k) or a diploma in HR. it's almost always a degree, barely EVER "no quals or equivalent experience or similar quals"... even for entry level jobs in hr or most defs management positions.

eu4 gives me performance anxiety. i always feel like i should be near a world conquest in 1550 and not enjoying the game like i want to (slow paced, realistic, chill).
maybe i should slow the play speed even more. i play on 3 which is already a slow speed.
#eu4#in my current game as netherlands i conquered almost all of the low countries before admin tech 10#then i felt comfortable leaving the hre when i hit tech 10 and i can take the rest later (if ever#it's a great start but if you're netherlands you're already playing against 4 other ai colonisers which is not usually the case#if you play as a coloniser in the game since the netherlands isn't formed by the ai most games#so i just ignored the new world and focused on africa on the way to asia (until i get stronger or rich enough to hire mercs and take#historical voc lands and take colonial nations from other countries)#left to my own i'd paint the map through africa before reaching asia but i know i have to claim rich provinces fast#and i feel like i'm on a race against the ai#i'm fine never snowballing and conquering gb i just want to play the game#but i feel silently judged by the anti casual voices in my head#i wish therapy were cheaper
