i really like the concept of the draconias being cursed with their love, although love is a curse and heart is a heavy burden in itself,,, it's still a fun subject to talk about. your fic in maleficia pov is such an eye opener for this 🥺 id love to see more of your insights w that trope lol
Tumblr media
Ouagh idk if you're aiming to let me just yap away about this, but that's precisely what I'm going to do because the prospect of bloodline curses/hereditary curses is one of my FAV things in folklore. This isn't a theory as much as it is me talking about just some things I've noticed and how I interpret it
To preface this, this has absolutely no hold in canon LMAO. This is just what I've noted when taking a step back and looking at the Draconia family—which is that they have a shitty track history with things happening to them. As a secondary point, I have no idea what Yana is pulling from for her background of fae information. Myths of fae come from all over the world; you got them in Europe, in Scandinavian countries, Oceania, Africa, etc (like really, they're all over). I do know her bits and bops about Malleus loving ice cream/dairy items falls more in line with European interpretations, so I'm rolling that she's drawing somewhat from that.
Which kind of leads me to noting the poor luck the Draconia's seem to have. In a lot of European folklore, fae love to curse (most often piseóg)—be it humans, dwarves, elves, or even their own kind (this really fantastic thesis digs right into that concept via an analysis of european folk stories). One story I like a lot is The Two Sisters and The Curse, a lovely tale of pride and fae. One sister brags that her sister has a fae lover, failing to follow the stipulation that she's never to tell anyone about that fae lover. The result is tragic, as expected, but the line 'If a fay-being has power, revenge will be taken though it may be on your descendants.' really sticks out in this.
Hereditary curses are curses passed through a bloodline that, understandably, can only be broken when certain stipulations are met; the ancient Greeks especially loved them. Some might think them as geas (a curse/gift, which is kind of what Meleanor put on Malleus before he was hatched; humans would fear him, fae would adore him, etc.). A lot of piseóg in European folklore are hereditary curses intent on really fucking with a family.
In my opinion, it kind of feels like the Draconia's either have the worst luck streak on record with how many things happen to them, or they have a curse. We don't know what happened to Maleficia's husband, but the assumption is that he's probably dead. Meleanor's husband went MIA in the middle of a war that her family and her people were also dragged into. Then, Meleanor died, robbing Maleficia of her only daughter. Upon her death, Maleficia was unsuccessful at hatching Malleus' egg because he began to reject her magic; if Lilia hadn't existed or had declined to help, Malleus would have died too, leaving Maleficia.
In addition, Malleus (due to his nature as sole heir and only family) was raised in an incredibly contained environment his entire life. Hell, he was chronically alone since he was in an egg. Even now he still holds this belief in his mind that he has no one except for the same 4 people he's known his entire life, and even then, one of them (Lilia) who he cares for a lot is also about to die. Silver will die before him. Sebek will die before him. His grandmother will die before him.
Really, it looks bad when you step back. This is kind of why I focused the Maleficia fic on the concept of a curse. I wrote it like she had an inkling someone in her family line had crossed the wrong person and it resulted in a piseóg, and she just doesn't know how to break or stop it.
Frankly, I love the trope to bits. I love the tragedy, I love the many ways it can happen (pissing off fae, pissing off a tenant, evicting a fairy king from your farm because you're just tryna do your harvest, etc.), and I love when one person finally manages to figure out the niche needed to break the curse. I imagine the relief of freedom from generations of tragedy is immense.
I kind of hope that happens with the Draconia's, or at least their luck turns around with Malleus. I feel like the whole family has been dragged through the mud enough LMAO.

Well, technically, this is also Snarry-adjacent, considering I wrote this as pre-prequel to the Unspeakable Mysteries Universe. This idea is my trying to say that Aberforth has massive Underesteimated Character Potential (tm).

" 𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐃𝐀𝐘.
Info: Mia had asked Jay to go out on her birthday, but he didn't know that this was her first time at a fancy restaurant and besides that, her first date.
Featuring: Jay and Mia.
Warning: English is not my first language so I apologize for any mistake.
Tumblr media
Mia knew that Jay's birthday was coming up, so she asked him out and went to a restaurant she had found on the Internet, with Mirae's help. ( Because she is an old lady- 👵)
Then the day before his birthday, she invited him in a very cute way, the two kept smiling at each other and couldn't wait until the next day come.
Mia wore a blue dress he had bought for her, the dress was very beautiful and made her even more adorable. "So, I knew you would like." He said, Jay was more than happy, his outside looked chill, but his inside screamed and jumped happily. Like this 🤸‍♂️ ( sorry Jay- )
They sat on the chairs and were served by a waiter who gave them the menus. Jay read them carefully, but Mia looked a little confused. It was the first time she went to a fancy restaurant, for Jay. It was very different from the places she go once.
He touched her hand under the table and looked at her kindly. "Hey, we can go elsewhere if you feel uncomfortable." Jay had noticed the way Mia behaved, he knew her very well and was very observant the way she acted.
"No! I liked here, is....Cozy!" She said, making Jay laugh and hide his face behind the menu. "Okay, you're doing really well." He praised her. After waiting a few minutes they were finally able to eat, Mia had ordered the same thing as Jay.
While they ate, the couple at the next table seemed dissatisfied with the waiter, the man was speaking rude words to the boy who was apparently a new employee. Jay had received a message on his phone and cannot pay attention to the conversation, but Mia listened carefully and stood up walking to the table. Jay followed her with his eyes and looked confused, like "What is my Boo doing?"
"Excuse me, I heard what just happened very well and I think that if you were clearer he could take your order easily. You speak very quickly and in a rude way, so if you were kinder it might help." Said Mia, the young waiter whispered a "Thank you" to her and watched her walk away, she returned to the table and sat smiling happily at Jay, who was just smiling like a proud friend. "I love this place!" Said her.
They finished eating and walked back to the dorms smiling at each other. Mia took Jay's hand and laid her head on his shoulder. "Sorry, it was my first date...." She said, Jay's brain froze, if he knew that he had certainly prepared something special. "You paid on your first date..." Mia ended up laughing and blushing. "I think we can do this again..."
They stopped in the hallway of the dorms and looked at each other for a few seconds. "I haven't given you my gift yet!" Jay was hopeful, he raised his eyebrows and teased. "And what are you going to give me?" He said, getting a little closer. "Close your eyes.." She said, before placing a kiss on Jay's cheek. "Sorry, Violet told me not to kiss you on the first date.." "I can wait..."

So what are the Dimitrescu n partners hobbies? Mel has her baking, Cass enjoys hunting, but what about the others :? (i am a bela is a big nerd truther. so she probs totally enjoys it when mia tells her science stuff or goes on science rambles with her)
Bela and Mia are both huge nerds. As unhinged as Mia can be, she's actually very smart when it comes to science, specifically biology. Mia will tell Bela all kinds of things she learned both in high school and while working for the Connections. (Granted she probably shouldn't be talking about the Connections at all, but does it really matter at this point?) And Bela will tell her everything she knows about flora and fauna. They have a good time being nerds.
In addition to being a nerd, Bela does origami in her spare time.
Daniela is a bookworm. Mostly for romance novels, or even tragic love stories. She also enjoys the odd fable/fairy tale. She has a whole bookshelf in her bedroom with all her favourites on it, and a lot of the time she can be found with Max laying in her lap while she reads.
Zoe is also a nerd, but like, a fantasy nerd. She loves DnD, and once a week she tries to get the fam together (Minus Max and Elena) to play. She almost always plays an elf priest, and the only one who rivals how much of a nerd she is for this game is Mia. She taught Bela how to DM, since it turns out Bela is really good at world building. It's kind of a family hobby, but Zoe's been playing since she was a kid. She also likes hunting now and then. Sometimes her and Cass go one hunting trips together.
Alcina doesn't really have time for hobbies, what with running a wine business and family meetings and all that, But she does enjoy the odd book, much like Daniela. Romance novels aren't really her thing, though, she much more of a horror novel fan and the odd true crime book.
Elena knits and crochets. I mean... do I have to explain it? She's made Bela a matching scarf and hat set and Bela wears it whenever she goes outside and the weathers a little chilly. She's pretty much made an article of clothing for everyone except Alcina and Max. She also gardens in the warmer weather.
Max... doesn't really have a hobby. They mostly just hang around Daniela and do whatever she does. They do enjoy bad movies, though. Specifically body horror, or stuff like Megan is Missing,

we decided to watch all story cutscenes from the new resident evil village videogame on a whim, since it’s not really our cup of tea gameplay-wise but seems to be this massive zeitgeist moment that made us morbidly curious. And I know how much everyone cares about my thoughts on things I know very little about, so. let’s get into it huh gamers. and yeah spoilers?
for context, I’ve only played resident evil 4 and a small portion of 5. I also read the wikipedia entry for 7’s plot recently. all this to say I was only vaguely aware of how tonally wacky the series was going in
I also completely gave up following the plot of the mutagens’ soap opera, so that paid off in spades here as you might imagine
anyway so that baby in the intro. that baby’s head is just massive. humongous toddlerdome. when ethan finds the baby’s head in a jar later on. there is no way that head would fit into that jar. bad game design. no not even game design. basic stuff. one hundred years in prison for jar modeler
if I see a single functional hetero marriage in video games I will cry tears of joy. I understand their misery is kind of The Point irt them badly working through the hillbilly romp trauma but like. sheesh. at least set that up as an emotional story goal the plot will help resolve. but nope they start off miserable and it goes nowhere
I know I know the mia thing has a huge wrinkle in it but like. not really in terms of dramatic function?? set up a happy end to the re7 nightmare (miranda can keep up appearances for all she cares) and then take that all away from angry griffin mcelroy for manpain. it will still absolutely work to set up the dramatic forward momentum. why throw in this cliche Hollywood Tension in their marriage if you’re not going to address it oh maybe because it’s normalized as automatically interesting because nuclear families are a self-propagating pit of a very narrow chance at emotional happiness relying on social stigma to preserve their empty function oops my baggage slipped in yikes abort mission
I called him griffin mcelroy because I saw his face on twitter and. yeah. I will continue to do this occasionally. my house my rules
... fuck the reason I’m hung up on this is specifically because the rest of the game is so tonally dexterous (which is a shining point to me! more on that later!), and yet they felt weirdly compelled to create the aesthetic trapping of a family-at-odds trope without following it through too well. a sign of both the good and the bad stuff to come
but listen the real reason why I wanted to talk about any of this is to nitpick the fascinating backwards-engineered nucleus of the entire thing; in that this game essentially creates a melting pot of just SO many disparate horror tropes and then makes a no-holds-barred unhinged effort at weaving thick lore to piece them all together. it is truly a sight to behold. like straight up you got your backwoods fright night situation, your gothic castle vampires, your rural-industrial werewolves, and don’t forget your bloated swamp monsters over there, with then a hard left turn into robotic body horror, and the entire ass subgenre of Creepy Doll writ large, and the bloodborne tentacle monsters, and a hellboy angel bossfight, which rides on the coattails of a mech-on-mech pacific rim bonanza, and just jesus henry christ slow down
almost all of these are textural hijack jobs that don’t really get into the metaphor plain of any of those settings but the game sort-of makes an argument that the texture IS the point and revels in it. It is kind of admirable almost. The same reason why the intro felt boxed in and unmotivated is also why the rest of the game just blasts off of its hinges to the point of complete and self-indulgent tonal abandon. I kinda loved that about it. lady dimitrescu made sure to hold her hat down as she bent forward in mahogany doorways and then suddenly she’s a giant gore dragon and you settle in your temp role as dark souls man with Gun to take her ass down. Excellent??
this rhino rampage impulse to gobble up every horror aesthetic known to man comes to head when the game wrestles with its FPS trappings in what is the most hilarious solution in creating visceral player damage moments. Since most cinematics and the entire game is in first person, that leaves precious little real estate for the devs to work with if they really want to sell griffin’s physical crucible. To wit. This dude’s forearms. Specifically just the forearms. They are MASSACRED throughout the story. The poor man lives out the silent hill dimension of a hand model. by the end cutscene he looks like a neatly dressed desk clerk who had decided to stick both his grabbers into garbage disposal grinders just a few hours prior. like in addition to everything else it manages to rope in that tinge of slapstick violence into its general grievous genre collection except this time it IS for a lack of trying! truly incredible
but wait his miracle clawbacks from everything his poor paws go through are retroactively explained away, yes, but far too vaguely and far too late to console me as I sat and watched everyone’s favorite baby brother reattach an entirely severed hand to his wrist stump by just. placing it on there. and giving it a lil twist ‘n pop terminator-style. and then willing his fingers back into motion right in front of my bulging eyes. this game just does not care. it does not give a shit. and boy howdy will it work to make that into one of its strongest suits
cause generally speaking resident evil was THE premiere vanilla zombie content destinaysh for like a decade, right? and as the rest of the world and mainstream media started encroaching and bloodying its blue ocean it went and just exploded in every single conceivable horror trope direction like a smilodon on catnip. truly, genuinely fascinating franchise moves
yeah the big vampire milf is hot. other news; grass... green. although I do love the implication that her closet is just identical white dresses on a rack. cartoon network-level queen shit
apropos of nothing I’ve said there’s also this hobo dante-devimaycry-magneto man, and I can’t believe this sentence makes sense. anyway he made that “boulder-punching asshole” joke referring to chris redfield and it was probably the only easter egg that really landed for me and boy did it land hard. I have not seen him punch the boulder in re5, mind. I had only heard about how funny it is from friends. and here this dude was, probably in the same exact mindset as me, trying to grapple with that insane mental image. with you on that ian mckellen, loud and clear
I advocate vehemently against the shallow pursuit of hyper photorealism in art direction but I gotta admit it works really in favor of immersive horror like this. the european village shacks especially gave me super unchill flashbacks to my rural countryside retreat in western georgia. I could smell the linoleum dude. not cool
faces are weird in this game. can’t place it. nice textures, good animation, but the modeling template is... uuh strange? and the hair. it has that clustered-flat-clumpy look that harkens to something very specific and unpleasant but I just don’t know what. sue me
griffin’s mental aptitude to take all this shit in stride and end every seemingly traumatizing bossfight involving some fucking eldritch being yet unseen through mortal eyes by essentially throwing out an MCU quip is just. What the fuck dude? I mean that was funny how you casually yelled the f-word at a god damn werewolf that you considered a fairy tale an hour ago but are you like, all right?? it was swinging a sledgehammer the size of a bus at you, ethan
oh oh the vampires are afraid of cold and your last name is winters. I get it haha
Pro Gamer Nitpick: boss fights seemed a bit unnecessarily long?? idk why the youtuber we picked decided the ENTIRE propeller man fight counted towards the vital story scenes he was stitching together, but man mr big daddy lite there really had some get up and go huh??
why are they saying dimitrescu.. like that. is it really how you say that word or is the english language relapsing into its fetish for ending every single word with a consonant at all costs
I’m not saying it’s a dramatic miss of a twist in context of all that’s going on, but the “you died in the last game actually and have been DC’s clayface ever since” revelation is low-key. it’s. it’s just funny to me, I dont know what to say. century-old god-witch fails her evil plan after she mistakenly removes heart from what was definitely NOT just some white guy with eight fingers after all
chris realizing he’s about to become the player character and immediately swapping out his tsundere trenchcoat for the muscletight sex haver sweater
the little bluetooth speaker-sized pipe bomb he taped to his knife was nuclear?? really??? I must have missed something because that is just too good. I buy it though I totally buy it. chris just got them fun-sized nukes in his car trunk for, you guessed it, Situations
anyway this is all for now just wanted to briefly touch on how unexpectedly funny and tonally irreverent this seemingly serious game turned out to be. did not articulate any cathartic story beats whatsoever but my god it had fun connecting those plot points. he just fucking put his severed hand back on his stump and it Just Worked todd howard get in here

Questions (Have You Ever Wanted to be a Fly on the Wall?)
Summary: By now, you probably know the drill (his name is Bill), on their tenth birthday, the first words a person’s soulmate will say to them appears somewhere on their body. The word "hello" is one of the most common phrases in the world, so when Roman ends up with it on his wrist he decides to get creative. Everyone he meets who greets him with a "hello" he asks them a question. And he'll keep doing this until it's on someone's arm. This is literally my first ever fanfiction that I've finished and posted, so here's hoping you like it.
Pairings: Prinxiety, Logicality (background-ish), Dukeceit (background)
Word Count: 2870
Warnings: One instance of an F bomb, I think that’s it, let me know if it’s not
Notes:  I got the idea to write this after scrolling through soulmate POVs on TikTok with my sister for fun. We discussed how one could solve the problem of having a really common phrase, and she said "I'd just ask weird questions, because I'm really good at that." So I decided to write this. Most of the questions Roman asks in this I stole from my sister, because, yes, she really does randomly ask these wackadoo questions unprompted. She's great. Enjoy.
Read on AO3
If anyone was going to describe Roman as anything, it was fanciful. Of course most kids were excited by the prospect of getting their soulmark and meeting their soulmate, but Roman had very big plans for how he was going to meet his soulmate. He grew up with Disney movies telling stories of soulmates and star-crossed lovers and found himself mesmerized by the power of soulmates. The lovely tale of the Little Mermaid, and Ariel trying to somehow convey to the prince that he was her soulmate when she had no voice. The story of Aladdin doing all he could to survive and be worthy of his princess soulmate. When he was eight, he saw Anastasia, a story of soulmates who met before their words appeared. When she lost her memory, she couldn’t have known the boy who saved her was her soulmate, and he knew but thought that she must have died until fate brought them together again. Roman was amazed. With only two years until his words appeared, he fantasized about all the ways he would meet and woo his soulmate, what unique phrase would change his life forever. Maybe he already knew his soulmate and just didn’t know it was them! Roman counted the days until he got his words with impatient anticipation.
Roman was younger than his twin, Remus by seventeen minutes exactly. So there they were, huddling on the bottom bunk with flashlights at 3:11 am only two minutes left until Remus is exactly 10 years old and he receives his soulmark. “It’s going to be something really lame, like ‘you’re annoying’ or something,” Roman insisted. Having grown up with Remus, he found it hard to think he could even have a soulmate, but they both knew he was just giving him a hard time. “Nuh-uh,” Remus squawked in a mocking tone. “Yuh-huh,” came Roman’s equally childish reply. “NUH-UH!” “Shut up, or Mom and Dad will yell at us again!” Roman socked his twin with a pillow. He tapped the screen of the tablet they had snuck into their room from the living room. 3:12:31. They’d been checking the time obsessively, but now there was only half a minute left. They exchanged a sort of giddy look as the clock ticked closer and closer. “10, 9, 8” Remus started to count as the time came upon them. Roman joined quickly, “7, 6, 5, 4.” “3.” “2.” “1.”
They watched as two words drew themselves onto Remus’s wrist: “Um, wow.” The twins blinked at the words for a minute, until Roman broke the silence, “nice going, doofus, you’re going to weird out your soulmate immediately.” “You don’t know that! Maybe it's a good ‘um, wow,’” Remus protested. “How would that be good? ‘Um, wow, you’re so handsome, ooooh,’” Roman made a mocking kissy-face and was promptly knocked over by another projectile pillow. He laughed, “face it, you’re a weirdo, ‘um, wow’ is not a good thing.” The door swung open with a whoosh and their mother stood there, staring at them. Roman covered the tablet with a pillow to hide the stolen device, and Remus scrambled off of the bunk. “I told you boys NOT to stay up like this,” Carla snapped. Her hair was up in curlers and she had hastily pulled a bathrobe over her pajamas. “But, Mama, our soulmates!” Roman whined. “Yeah, I got my words,” Remus waved his arm around even though the light was too dim for their mother to read the words and she was too tired to humor them. “That’s nice, Remus, but I told you, Papa and I have to work tomorrow, you can’t be keeping us up like this, I told you we’d look at your words in the morning,” she rubbed her eyes, still bleary from the sleep she wanted desperately to return to. “But it is morning!” Roman cried indignantly. Carla fixed her son with a pointed glare and he looked down and climbed under his sheets. Carla sighed, “thank you. Now, you can tell me what your words are in the morning when Papa is awake, but right now I need you, boys, to go to sleep, okay?” “Okay, Mama,” the twins replied in unison. Remus climbed back up to his bunk and got under his covers. Carla nodded and departed the room for her own, her slippers making light scuff sounds down the hall. As soon as the door clicked closed at the end of the hall, Remus poked his head over the edge of his bunk and looked down at his twin, “how much time is left?” he whispered. Roman uncovered the tablet and woke the screen, “ten minutes,” he whispered back. The next ten minutes crawled by painfully slow. Roman lost track of whatever his brother was saying as his thoughts turned to what his words would be. He was pulled out of his trance when Remus broke his silence to ask “how long?” again. This time, when Roman woke the tablet, he saw that it was 3:29:22, and he became overwhelmed by the fact that there was less than a minute left. He reported to his twin and went back to staring intently at the digital clock. Each second felt like an eternity, but they dragged him eagerly forward until- The grandfather clock down the hall chimed the half-hour, and Roman tugged his pajama sleeve down excitedly and turned the flashlight onto his wrist. There a beat of silence until, “so? What does it say?” Remus asked eagerly. Roman sighed, “it says ‘hello.’” Remus stayed quiet for a second, “that’s going to be hard to find,” he offered. Roman collapsed back into his pillow. “Well, I’m going to sleep. Night, bro,” Remus mumbled from above. “Night,” Roman murmured. He looked at the singular word again and switched off the flashlight. “Hello” was one of, if not the most common soulmark in the world, because it was the most common greeting, regardless of language. At least there was that, Roman considered, his soulmate probably spoke English. But that wasn’t helpful. Remus was right, it was going to be hard to find his soulmate. Roman sighed and turned over onto his side. Okay, thought Roman, then I’ll just have to get creative.
It was common practice to try to use unique and specific greetings when meeting someone for the first time to cheat destiny and ensure an easier time finding their soulmate, but with as common a phrase as “hello”, Roman had to scrap all of his fantasies of grand romantic gestures and fairy tale meetings in favor of a way to guarantee his soulmate would recognize him. The plan was simple, if he was talking first to someone new, he stated his name first and foremost. Anyone he approached first, he greeted with “my name is Roman, nice to meet you.” The part where he got creative was with anyone who approached him first by saying “hello.” “Hello!” chirped his friendly new classmate in sixth grade. “If you were an insect, how long would it take you to die?” Roman asked immediately. The girl stared at him before replying shyly, “I don’t… know?” “Darn.” He always made sure to explain his tactic after using it to avoid further alienating new acquaintances. And thus he continued this way with every new person he met, always with a new and random question.
“Hello.” “If you could time travel, who would you meet?” “…Abraham Lincoln.” “Okay.”
“Hello.” “If you could make a new type of snowman that wasn’t made of snow, what would it be made of?” “Uh. Oranges?” “Cool.”
“Hello.” “If a bat flew into your house speaking with the voice of a cartoon, but claiming to be your best friend, what would you do?” “…What?”
Sophomore year, Roman and Remus were fifteen years old. Remus had already met his soulmate, Janus, and naturally, “um, wow” had been a response to Remus weirding him out, in addition to the realization that Remus was his soulmate. Roman, on the other hand was still trying to find his soulmate with random questions, but to no avail. The second semester had begun and Roman’s physics class was changing seats. Roman collapsed into his new spot next to a boy he knew to be Patton, but with whom he had not actually talked yet. Patton was wearing a blue t-shirt with a repeating cat pattern across it. His honey-brown hair was lightly curled, and a pair of round glasses were balanced on his freckle-covered nose. He smiled warmly at Roman. The teacher finished giving his instructions and let the class go to meet their new partners and get to work on their assignments. And thus the cycle began anew. Patton turned to Roman with a grin, “hello!” Roman huffed slightly as he quickly summoned a new question, “what’s your favorite musical?” he asked in lieu of a real greeting. Patton stared at Roman for a beat before raising a hand to his chin thoughtfully, and Roman knew that the boy probably didn’t have his question on his wrist. “Mamma Mia,” he answered finally. “ABBA. Good choice,” Roman chuckled. Patton giggled back, “Why do you ask anyway?” Roman showed Patton his wrist, and he nodded wonderingly, “I get it, you’re trying to have a unique greeting, because yours is so common.” “Bingo,” Roman said, slightly relieved that he didn’t have to explain it all again. “I’m guessing you don’t have my phrase, right?” Patton’s hair bounced as he shook his head. He presented his own wrist, marked with the word “Salutations” in unusually crisp font. “Ooh, you have a fancy soulmate,” Roman said, “that, or they’re a nerd. I’ve never seen such a professional-looking font.” “Me neither,” Patton giggled again. “At least ‘salutations’ isn’t a very frequently used greeting.” Roman nodded, “yes, a nerd like that will be easy to spot,” Roman joked. “I’m Roman by the way,” he said, suddenly unsure if Patton knew who he was or not. “Patton!” he replied with a quirk of his head and a broad smile. “Nice to meet you,” he was aware of the teacher surveying the class to see who was working and quickly added, “maybe we should get started.” Patton nodded and they set to work reading instructions and becoming friends.
Half-way through the first semester of senior year, Patton introduced Roman to his recently discovered soulmate, Logan. Upon meeting him, Roman remarked that he was exactly the kind of nerd he had expected when he had seen Patton’s “salutations” soulmark. He then lamented that he was once again left surrounded with people who had soulmates when he didn’t, at which point Logan informed his that “statistically speaking, most people meet their soulmates in their twenties or thirties.” “Thanks, pocket-protector, but that’s barely comforting. I have the most common phrase in the English language,” Roman complained. “Actually, according to most studies performed in the last 20 years, the most common phrase currently is ‘hi,’” Logan corrected him with a push of his glasses. Roman stared at him in disbelief and Patton giggled at his side.
“I’m telling you Roman, he’s actually really nice,” Patton assured him as they walked down the path towards Roman’s house. Both boys were bundled up in coats, their hands stuffed firmly in pockets to protect against the biting winter wind. Roman had a Christmas party coming up in a few days, and Patton was trying to convince him to invite the fairly anti-social kid who never got of his emo phase, Virgil. In all honesty, Roman didn’t care if Virgil came or not, plenty of Remus’s friends, who he didn’t know, were going, but Patton was determined to make Roman and Virgil friends, and as it was, Roman didn’t think he had anything in common with the emo. “I’m sure he is, Pat, but…” he hesitated, searching for some way to appease his friend without giving in. “But what?” Patton pressed, meanwhile physically pressing against his shoulder. “But you get along with everyone, and everyone loves you. You can find something in common with anyone no matter what,” Roman stalled. Patton’s eyes bore into him. “I on the other hand, don’t think I have anything in common with Virgil. I mean, he’s all surly and dark, and I’m a theater kid straight out of High School Musical,” he gestured grandly before his hand quickly retreated to the warmth of his pocket again. “Have you ever even talked to the guy?” “Well, no, but-” “Then how do you know you have nothing in common?” Patton’s voice lilted. He always gave off the vibe of a dad trying to get his child to try a new food or something. Roman shot him a side-eyed look, and Patton continued, “you like Disney, right? Well, it just so happens Virgil is into Disney, too! See? There is something you have in common?” “Yeah, sure, but… I mean, who doesn’t like Disney?” Patton just shrugged. Roman was being stubborn, but Patton knew he’d practically won. “All I ask is you let me introduce you to him at the party, okay? Just let him say hello. You can even ask him one of your weird questions.” Patton waved a gloved hand vaguely. Roman was suddenly aware that he seemed to know something Roman didn’t, but he ignored the feeling in favor of a childish groan. “Fine, you can bring him to party and introduce him to me,” defeat dripped from his voice, and Patton clapped in delight and cheered as they arrived on the doorstep of the house.
Some pop rendition of Jingle Bells played through the house as Roman made his way to the snack table. The table was draped with a festive table cloth covered in reindeer and sleighs, and it featured an impressive array of cookies and cupcakes and other holiday-themed treats. Most claimed that Roman and Remus overdid the party thing, but in truth it was mostly Roman. Classmates and friends milled around dancing, eating, and chatting happily. Roman picked out a tree-shaped cookie that he had made and started to make his way into the living room when he heard someone call his name. Roman turned to see Patton dragging a boy toward him, a broad grin decorated his face and, as usual, outshone the blinking Christmas light necklace he was wearing. They met just to the side of the entryway into the living room. “I know you said you hadn’t met yet, so Roman, this is Virgil,” he gestured to the boy standing next to him. His dyed purple bangs draped just down to his eyes, and he was wearing a dark purple sweater in place of his usual patchwork hoodie. Virgil watched Patton carefully, only looking at Roman when introduced by name. Virgil gave a wave so slight, Roman would have missed it if it was any smaller. His low voice was soft, and yet carried easily over the din of the party, “hello.” “Have you ever wanted to be a fly on the wall?” Roman said. His response was automatic. Replying to “hello” with a question had become an unconscious habit after doing it for so many years. Virgil stared. That was a standard reaction to Roman, he had hardly registered the question that had come out of his mouth. Patton’s further widening smile, however, was not a standard reaction. Roman then realized that Virgil’s stare was different from others as well. His gray eyes shone with shock instead of the confusion Roman was accustomed to. Suddenly becoming uncomfortable with the silence, he said “… What?” “… I’ve always wanted to ask, and I mean this sincerely, what the fuck kind of greeting is that” Virgil said finally as he started to tug down his sleeve, revealing the words on his wrist. Roman’s face lit up with astonishment and excitement. “No, I’ve never wanted to be a fly on the wall, but thanks to you, I’ve thought about it bordering on obsessively for almost eight years.” Roman finally broke out of his trance. “Oh my god, I can’t believe it worked,” he exclaimed as Virgil stared quizzically at him. Roman showed him his own wrist and explained the logic behind his seemingly random question. Suddenly a thought occurred to him, and he whirled on Patton. “You knew about this, didn’t you?” He shrugged innocently. “I knew that Virgil had a weird question on his wrist and that you have a tendency to ask such questions,” He grinned slyly, “I couldn’t be certain, but it was a pretty fair bet.” “You’re a mad genius,” Virgil cocked his head at Patton. Patton smiled brightly again, “I don’t know what you mean, kiddo, I’m just helping out where I can.” Roman shook his head and laughed, “alright, Pat, I’m sorry I ever doubted you.” “That’s fine, Roman,” Patton clapped him on the shoulder, “I’ve got to go find Logan, so you guys get to know each other,” Patton waved as he stepped away. Roman and Virgil turned to face one another and stared at each other in silence for a few moments. Roman wracked his brain for what to do next, and all he could come up with was, “So… Disney?”

2020 Reading Challenge - E-Book Edition!
According to Amazon, I have exactly 294 e-books currently sitting in my Kindle library.
Granted, some of these books have been read and are being saved for a second (or third, or fourth) re-read, but when it comes down to it, that number is around 40 books, give or take.
Which means I still have over 250 books that need to be read.
And it’s not like I haven’t tried! There are plenty of titles that, when opened up, will go to the last place I left off - that being chapter 5, or maybe chapter 10. But sometimes life gets in the way. Or a sudden interest in another author. Or a new season of RuPaul’s Drag Race. But whatever the reason may be, it’s over 250 books that haven’t been read. Challenge accepted!
For 2020, I commit to not buying any new books to add to my Kindle library (checking out books from the library is ok, because you’ve gotta support your local library!), and instead focus on the books I already have. So no addition of 99 cent books, or Kindle Unlimited books, or books that are suddenly 75% off. Only the books that I currently have.
As the reading commences, and after the book is finished, I’ll update my list to indicate what has been completed, along with the date purchased, and a short review (or a reason I just couldn’t finish it at all).
Below is the list for future reference - and to clarify my what my favorite genre is. Spoiler: it’s romance novels.

Only a day in, and there’s already some girl stuck in his head… Why did it have to be him?
Word Count: 4474
Warnings: Swearing
A/N: Okay so basically reader is just an older Sophie type that kind of dresses like Donna and goes through the same things as her. This is a little cheesy and it DOES get a little musical, so I recommend getting your Mamma Mia 2 soundtrack (I Have a Dream & Mamma Mia) ready if you want the FULL experience lmao! I don’t know how to feel about this, and most of the outfits I mentioned are from the movie. I hope you guys enjoy this! I love Mamma Mia and Borhap so whew! This has been in my drafts forever and I’m a lil nervous to post!

It was a particularly sunny day on the island of Kalokairi, and the sky was a bright beautiful blue that clashed with the darker and deeper blue of the ocean. Business was slow today, nobody had really come into the hotel since it was a weekday, but you’d at least get a few people on vacation at this time of the week. You could hear your mom making her way down the stairs to the lobby. You gave her a wide, fake smile, and she just shook her head, smiling herself. You opened your mouth to speak, but she started before you had the chance.
“You don’t have to ask me Y/N, you can take the rest of the day off.” Your mom said, looking at you. It’s not that you hated the hotel, and you actually really enjoyed running it with her, but sometimes… Sometimes it just got tiring.
You had been living on the island of Kalokairi your whole life. Your mom came from America when she was around 22 years old, and then had you and raised you here. You love Greece, you really did, but there was still so much of the world you wanted to see.
You grinned at your mom before giving her a hug, then grabbing your bag and running out. You’d usually just sit on the beach or walk around the town. You loved the life and environment here, and you wouldn’t want it any other way. At the little bar not far from your hotel, you’d occasionally sing. Your mom was close with the owner, Nefeli, so she’d let you perform in addition to her son from time to time. Nefeli loved your voice.
You had a few friends on the island, one of your closest being a girl who had moved here from America, just like your mom had all those years go. Her name was Amanda, and she was independently studying the plants and animals nearby. You met her a few years ago but she quickly became one of your best friends, seeing as she was the only girl around town close to your age.
The stone steps were uneven beneath your flimy sandals, your long skirt blowing in the wind as you headed down to the beach. The sun was nearly setting, and you always thought it was so beautiful to watch from here, at the bottom of the steps, below the hill with the church on top of it. You sat alone on the sand, the wind in your loose and messy hair as the air began to grow colder. You could see a few boats in the distance, and you hoped that some day, you’d be on one of them, off to see the world.
You weren’t necessarily trapped or anything, but it would greatly impact your mom if you did leave her, so for her sake you stayed and helped run the hotel with her. You could see the last passenger boat of the night dock, and let off a few people. You could only make out four men from here, and they were dressed pretty flashy… At least, flashy for a little island in Greece. With a frown, you turned your focus back to the deep blue ocean in front of you, with little sunlight available now. You felt yourself smile as you closed your eyes, letting the water mist you a little bit. You grabbed your bag as you headed up toward the hills to the trees. There was occasionally a few animals here, especially in the mornings, but right now it was empty… Except for the beautiful glow of the fireflies around you. You picked a few of your favorite flowers, accompanied by a few fruits. You had a vase in your bedroom that you constantly filled with flowers you picked yourself. You twirled in your skirt, letting out a little laugh as you watched the fireflies lightly buzz around you.
Meanwhile, across the shore, Roger Taylor was tapping his foot impatiently on dolphin tile of a run down looking hotel. But who was he kidding? This whole town on this small island kind of looked run down… He didn’t even want to be here, if he was perfectly honest. Freddie had suggested it so that they maybe get inspiration for the next album, as if that was going to come from a sad little unknown island in Greece. The boat ride alone over to the island was pure hell, he didn’t want to spend anymore time here.
Brian was standing next to him, talking to Deaky about what they could do on the island. When Roger heard Brian murmur something about going on a row, he let out a loud scoff, and turned to the two boys. “There’s no way in hell you’re getting me on another one of those boats.” He said to Brian.
Deaky let out a  sigh. “Look, I know you don’t want to be here, but we’re doing this to take some time away from everything. I think it’ll be good for us. It’s practically paradise.” Deaky said with a soft smile, and Roger only rolled his eyes.
Before anything else could be said, Freddie came out of the building onto the patio, a satisfied smile rested on his face. He held up two keys. “Two of us will have to share rooms, but I think this hotel is quite cute, wouldn’t you say?” He said, turning around and admiring the hotel. Freddie noticed Roger’s annoyed face and smirked. “Come on Rog, it’s a band retreat, enjoy it a little!” He exclaimed.
Roger shook his head. “Freddie, there’s absolutely nothing to do on this island, it’s just a waste of time.”
Freddie, still smirking, rolled his eyes. “Oh please, it’ll be amazing. You can hit up all the Greek girls you want, find an Aphrodite even.” Freddie said, turning on his heel and heading inside.
Deaky and Brian grabbed their bags and headed inside the hotel too, leaving Roger standing outside under the dim patio light by himself. With an annoyed sighed, he grabbed his bags and followed behind them.
The room itself wasn’t so bad. It had two twin beds, nothing exciting. Roger still wasn’t impressed though, and didn’t bother to meet the woman at the front desk. He was sharing his room with Brian, while Deaky was with Freddie. Eventually, they all settled in their rooms.
You came back into the hotel later than your mom liked, but you were a grown woman and there wasn’t anything she could really do to stop you. She gave you a look of ‘you know better,’ and you hung your head in shame as you entered her view. You set the bag down on the counter of the hotel, the fruits nearly rolling out. She sighed. “Four more boys checked in tonight. You’ll have to check on them in the morning, see if they need anything.” She said in a stern voice.
You hated checking in on people, it was so weird and uncomfortable… But it was the polite thing to do in a hotel this small. You opened your mouth to argue but instead closed it, swiftly picked up your bag and headed up to your bedroom. As you placed the bag on your desk, you pulled the flowers out and placed them in your metal vase. You smoothed out your orange skirt as you looked in the mirror. You hair was a mess, and there was still sand beneath your fingernails. You headed toward your balcony, pushing the doors wide open. You looked out to the ocean, watching a boat head away from the island. You furrowed your brows as you watched it sail away, wishing that you were on the boat, off to see the world.
You closed your eyes and started humming, but it quickly grew into a soft little song. That was another thing about you; You were so musical, and always immersed yourself deep into your songs. “I have a dream… A song to sing.” You hummed out softly, opening your eyes as watched the ocean. “To help me cope, with anything… If you see the wonder of a fairy tale, you can take the future even if you fail.” You smiled as you sang.
The doors to the balcony of the room right below you were wide open, the wind blowing into the room. Roger was sitting on his bed, reading one of his favorite books, On the Road, when he heard something. It was a soft and angelic voice. He put his book down and sat up, furrowing his brows as he tried to figure out where the voice was coming from. It was just him in the room, as Brian was taking a shower. Once Roger stepped on the balcony, he was able to hear it clearer. “I believe in angels, something good in everything I see.”
Roger realized it was coming from a room nearby him, and it took him a few seconds to realize it was coming from the balcony directly above him. It was obviously a girl voice, soft and quiet, yet one of the prettiest voices he’s heard. It was calming, and normally he’d try to chase the voice down but he found it relaxing. He didn’t want to ruin to his moment. “I believe in angels, when I know the time is right for me I’ll cross the stream… I have a dream.” The voice softly sang before quietting down for the night. Roger stood on the balcony, hoping the unnamed voice would return.
Roger would’ve waited longer if weren’t for Brian’s “What’re you doing?” Brian frowned. Roger turned around and scratched the back of his neck.
“Just looking at the stars, they’re a lot more clear here.” And Roger frowned. “Maybe I need to give this play a chance…” He muttered to himself.
“What was that?” Brian asked, a frown on his face.
“Nothing.” Roger said. “We should get to bed, it’s late and it took some time to travel here.” And with that, the night was drawing to a close, finally.
The next morning, you woke up remembering it was your day off. You practically jumped out of bed, filled with excitement about what today might hold, especially since Amanda was coming over. After you had taken a shower, you put on a denim bralette with floral patterned yellow pants. Unlike yesterday’s low pony, you let your hair hang loose and wavy. You tied it together with a silver locket around your neck and sandals as always. Today was hotter than usual, so you made sure to dress breezy. You headed down to the hotel lobby to find it packed with quite a few people. A few more people were checking while a few were checking out.
You tried to weave between people when you slammed head-on right into someone else. You almost fell but the person grabbed you by your waist, saving you from falling. You looked up to see a man with blonde hair, and these amazing blue eyes. His arm slipped away as he steadied you. Your breath was taken away by the encounter, and you were more embarrassed than anything. The blonde man gave you a grin as you felt a blush creep up on your cheeks. He gave you the most charming smile, and you could feel your heart start to race.
Roger opened his mouth to introduce himself to this pretty girl who quite literally fell for him, but before he could say anything you softly said, “I’m sorry.” and hurriedly weaved your way through the crowd, away from him.
Once you were outside, you took a deep breath, calming yourself down from that sort of awkward, sort of hot, encounter you just had. Not too often did guys your age come around to the island, let alone stay at your hotel… You began to bite your lip as you leaned on the stone wall, looking out to deep blue ocean. You felt your heartbeat start to slow down as you looked out to the ocean. You jumped as you felt a tap on your shoulder, bringing you out of your thoughts. You turned around to find Amanda.
“Oh God Amanda you scared me… You’ll never believe the most awkward situation I was just in.” You sighed.
Amanda grinned as your face turned a shade of pink. You shook your head as you headed up a hill, away from the patio of the hotel and deeper into the trees now as you got further away from the city. Alyssa trailed behind you. “Okay, you’re really fast.” She huffed. “You can’t leave me hanging like that Y/N, what do you mean ‘awkward situation’?”
You buried your face in your hands, recounting the memory. “Oh God it was really awful… The lobby was packed and I tried to get through and ended up running right into someone… I would’ve fallen if he hadn’t caught me. Amanda, you had to have seen him, he had the most angelic eyes.” You sighed. “I was so embarrassed. I think he was going to talk to me but I ran away.”
Amanda laughed behind you. “Oh Y/N you moron, why did you run?” She shook her head jokingly and you rolled your eyes as you pushed some branches out of the way to clear a path. You finally got to your one place of serenity; your secret little cottage. It wasn’t pretty to look at; the windows were broken, the paint chipping, nails sticking out of the floor, the door barely hanging on… But you loved it. You loved this worn down, barely standing, and potentially hazardous little cottage because nobody else knew about it. Amanda and you would always come here to escape, to share your little talks and laughs. It was your favorite place to be. You had even tried to decorate it a little bit with an old rug and old vase that you filled with the same flowers you picked yesterday.
You and Amanda sat on the rug, peeling a few oranges that you had also gathered yesterday. She spoke as she did so. “So, Bill told me that when he pulled up to the dock he swears he saw Queen…”
You narrowed your eyes as you tried to remember, recall who or what Queen was. Amanda frowned as she noticed you thinking. “Y/N… The band?”
“Oh yeah, I think I have a few of their records!” You shouted in recognition now. You hadn’t a clue what any of them looked like, though. You frowned. “What would they be doing here?”
Amanda thought, and then shrugged. “I’m not really sure. Anyway, are you going to perform at Nefeli’s tonight? You know they love you.” She said, laying down next to you.
“Yeah, I mean I have fun singing but tonight… Tonight is going to be special.” You said, giving her a soft smile. You laid down next to Amanda. “Why is it so hot today? I can hardly the stand the heat.” You sighed.
“I know!” Amanda said, shooting up. She held her hand out to you. “Let’s go out on the water, it’s bound to cool you off!”
***
Across the island, Roger was at the beach with the boys. Freddie and Deaky were making a sand castle, while Brian was looking at the tide pools. Roger looked across the ocean and sighed. He couldn’t stop thinking about the girl from last night… The voice… It was just so… “No! No seaweed barrier, this is a lavish sand castle and seaweed is disgusting!” Freddie sneered at Deaky, bringing Roger out of his thoughts. Deaky frowned. Freddie reached into his pocket and placed a sand dollar at the top of the castle. “Perfect.” Deaky’s only response was an eye roll, but he couldn’t help but smile.
Roger walked over to Deaky and Freddie, who were now over the sand castle and had moved onto watching the ocean while sitting in the sand. It was a big shift in the mood. There was a sailboat out on the ocean, and Freddie’s face lit up. “We should all get on a sailboat.”
Roger groaned. “I can’t stand boats, please no.” He sighed. But it was too late, and there was no changing Freddie’s mind.
***
You seemed to be the only one rowing, and you were getting annoyed. Why you agreed to go on the water with Amanda, you weren’t sure; you always did the rowing by yourself. “Amanda you have to row!” You huffed.
“I am rowing!” She shouted back.
“Hardly! I’m doing all the work.” You sighed. “Oh God, there’s another giant sailboat. Come on, we should move before they practically ram into us.” You laughed, easing the tension between you two. However, as the sailboat seemed to get closer to you, you and Amanda went back to bickering. The sailboat wasn’t very tall so it couldn’t do much damage to your rowboat, but it’d definitely jolt you. “Amanda, we’re heading straight for the sailboat, you have to row with me!” You said quickly, trying to get her to. It was getting closer now. “Amanda, fucking row with me!” You shouted. You sighed, and braced for impact. The whole boat shook, including the sailboat.
“Why were you yelling at me?” She shouted at you.
“Because you clearly weren’t rowing, you were just sitting there while I did all of the work!” You rolled your eyes.
“You did all of the work? Why I-” She started, before she placed her hands on your shoulders gave you a push, sending you backwards into the water, and a scream escaped your lips as you did so.
The cold water felt nice after being in the sun for so long. After a few seconds, you popped your head up out of the water. You came up behind the boat, and leaned on the back of it, causing Amanda to lose her footing and fall in as well. Amanda popped her head up to you and looked at you, causing you both to crack up laughing. “I hate you so much.” You laughed.
“Are you two alright?” A voice above you said, and you looked up to see a man with a dark hair.
“Yes, we’re fine! Sorry for hitting your sailboat.” You called out. Amanda’s mouth hung open, and you frowned at her reaction. Another face appeared next to him, but this time it was a man with blonde hair. It was the same guy from this morning. “Shit” you whispered.
The blonde man immediately recognized you. “It’s you from this morning!” He shouted down at you.
You let out a nervous laugh. “Yeah… Sorry about that…”
He gave you another one of his charming smiles. “It’s quite alright, love. You just took off before I could even get your name. I’m Roger.”
You returned a softer smile. “I’m Y/N.”
“Darlings, would you like to join us or something? Rowing seems… Hard.” The darker haired man called out below to you.
“Thank you for the invite, but we have a lot of laughs and it’s fine.” You climbed back into the row boat, your floral pants sticking to your legs. You helped Amanda up who remained speechless this entire time. “Well, it was night meeting you Roger and…” You frowned, realizing you hadn’t learned the other man’s name.
“Freddie.” He finished for you, giving you a smile.
You gave them a small wave before you started rowing away. Amanda had a puzzled look on her face, and you almost laughed. “Amanda, you haven’t been this quiet since Bill accidently lost your shoe in the water. What is it?”
“Y/N, that was literally Queen.” She said, a confused look on her face. “And… You ran into Roger this morning? Oh my God why didn’t you tell me!” She exclaimed.
You frowned. “I… did tell you.” You said, confused.
“So that means they’re staying at your hotel then? This is insane, I can’t believe Queen is staying at your hotel I have to get my polaroid and-” She was talking a mile a minute.
“Amanda, calm down… The sun’s starting to set, we should get back to shore. We can discuss Queen later and you can freak out then, for now, I don’t want to get stuck at sea.” You said, and she just nodded. This time, you two were able to suck it up and work together and return without any major problems. The sun was just about set, and you gave the horizon one last look before you headed up to the town.
It was busy tonight, and there was a lot of hustle and bustle between shops. When you finally got to the bar, it was nearly packed. Nefeli was behind the counter cleaning glasses as her son stood beside her helping making drinks. Nefeli’s other son, however, was standing on the stage, playing guitar badly with a few of his friends. He was singing too, and boy was it bad.
Nefeli’s eyes lit up as soon as she saw. “Oh thank God, I couldn’t take much more of his bumbling.” She laughed and her eyes crinkled. “Our amazing talented Y/N!” She exclaimed.
“Hey Nefeli! It’s so packed tonight!” You said looking around.
“They’re all here because of you!” She said proudly, and Nefeli always made you feel so good. She showered you in compliments.
You couldn’t help but grin, and Nefeli shuffled up to the stage. Her son gave her a disappointed look, but the audience just looked relieved. She spoke into the microphone, a proud smile on her face. “Now I know the reason you’re all here, and it surely wasn't’t for my son.” The joke earned a laughed from the audience, and even you found yourself laughing. “Please welcome to the stage, our one and only Y/N!” She said.
You made your way to the stage through the crowd as the audience clapped and cheered. You even had a few whistles. Your clothes were a little damp still, but your hair was completely dry and even messier now. It was a cute messy though; wavy and natural. Amanda followed behind you. “You got this Y/N! Be fast though so we can get to your hotel, I want to meet Queen!” She said eagerly, and you shot her a look.
Nerves had always and always will be a problem. The crowd was bigger than usual tonight, and you weren’t even wearing a stage outfit. The music softly played in the background, and you let the words escape your mouth. “I was cheated by you, and I think you know when…” The piano played softly in the background and you smiled, butterflies still in your stomach. The light was only on you know, and you couldn’t see any faces within the crowd. “So I’ve made up my mind, it must come to an end… Look at me now, will I ever learn, I don’t know how…” You took in a deep breath. “But I suddenly lose control, there’s a fire within my soul.” The beat started to pick up and you couldn’t help but grin.
People started to cheer as it picked up. “Just one look and I can hear a bell ring, One more look and I forgot everything, whoa.” You sang in the microphone, your nerves melting away as you immersed yourself in the song and the audience did the same.
“Mamma mia, Here I go again… My my, How can I resist ya?” You sang. You moved around the stage. You stood out against the painted flowers on the wall, and the crowd was really into the song. Everyone was dancing, even yourself. “Mamma Mia, does it show again… My my, just how much I missed you?”
Outside the bar, it just so happened that the boys were walking by. Freddie had been shopping for some clothes to wear out on the beach, when they walked by and heard a voice. Roger’s face lit up, because he instantly recognized the voice as the one from last night. The boys didn’t even noticed when he had slipped away into the bar. Roger wasn’t expecting the large crowd. He was trying to make his way to the stage to finally see where the voice was coming from. However, people kept blocking it the stage, and he could never get a good look at who was singing it.
“Mamma mia, now I really know.” The voice sang out. The song had a contagious tune, and Roger needed to know who was singing. With one final shove, he made his way to the left side of the stage.
You were slightly sweaty from all the moving around and singing, and you were tired honestly, but you’d never let it show. As the last lines approached you gave it all you got. “My my, I should not have let you go!” You tried to end with a cute pose, but instead only ended up with your feet getting caught up in some wires. You fell backwards, your arms shooting out in front of you, trying to grasp something to catch yourself. Instead of feeling the impact of the floor, you swiftly and perfectly fell into someone’s arms.
The person was holding you bridal style, and you were trying to process what was going on; your heart was still beating so fast. “Oh my gosh I’m so so sorry.” You said, and then you looked up to see who caught you, only to find a pair of blue, angelic eyes staring down at you. It was Roger.
“It’s you.” Roger said, looking down at you, before a grin spread across his face.

Today Mia and Jay had nothing to do, so they decided to just lie together.
Mia noticed that he looked a little sad and quiet, so she decided to do what a good friend would do.
"Oh my God, look at this, it's so beautiful!" "What is?" He approached her and watched the screen of her cell phone, in it Mia looked at several pictures of Jay, when he saw the scene, he just smiled and went back to touching his cell phone.
Mia dropped her cell phone and approached, snatching his cell phone out of his hands and laying on Jay's body, hugging him. "I need to charge, you are my battery."
Jay smiled and covered his face watching the scene, particularly he loved it when Mia became needy and asked for his attention. "Do you need anything else?" "Yes, you."
Jay laughed and blushed, touching her hair and petting it. "Stop it, I will start to think you like me."
"How can I not like you?...You are so talented and handsome." She sat down making Jay sit down too and keep her on his lap.
"Are you serious?" "Yes! Of corse, I can't take my eyes off you every time I see you on stage, it's like when I was going to see my cows at my house." Said Mia, bringing both her hands up to Jay's face, caressing him gently. "I would like people to see you as I do, but some people don't know how to recognize someone talented-" Jay interrupted her by sealing a sweet kiss under her lips, he slowly separated and whispered. "I didn't mean to interrupt you, but I couldn't resist." He said smiling.
"Don't be sorry, I don't stop talking when it comes to you, you are like, my perfect and beautiful Jay" "I can live with this nickname, and...Thank you, i needed this."

They spent the next few hours together just smiling and holding each other.
"So, we're boyfriend and girlfriend now, aren't we?" Said Jay, looking at her with hear eyes. 💗👄💗
"I think so, but I have to ask Violet, she said she was going to teach me how date someone." "We can teach each other..."
👉👈
"We can wear matching clothes and tell everyone tomorrow, I want everyone to know you are mine now." "You have to ask permission for my cows first, they are my daughters." "I am a father!" "Oh my God."
( It was the first time I wrote a kiss so I was shy! But if you guys want a part 2, where they tell everyone about their relationship, let me know. )

manuela hc:
the grande dame : an exploration of lgbt/camp tropes and anime jokes leading to a complex and likable portrayal of a modern day stock tropes.’
the grande dame is a stock trope of Older Women who represent the stuffy, uppity matronly upper class to comedic effect.
from the tvtropes page  : ‘they are usually a spinster or widow’ (such as manuela is Forever Unlucky In Love) and if they are married they will be a patron of the arts that drags her husband to operas, even more cultured than the ‘prima donna’ (which manuela was implied to be in the past, but has grown past to become a highly educated professor healer and warrior in addition to her talents in theatre). when the grande dame does have a sympathetic streak, they tend to be an oddball themself (like manuela). she can be a ‘moral guardian’ (and manuela’s skills are in faith magic and she does believe in the goddess), but failing their duty towards ‘respectability’ they turn to drink. (which sounds exactly like manuela).
we could just say that manuela was thus a complicated prima donna that gave up the theatre and turned to drink after aging out of her youthful beauty, into a grande dame figure. certainly, if you look at examples of the grande dame in classical literature, it seems to be a very open-and-shut stock caricature played completely for comedic effect, as does manuela’s whininess and flirtatious milf/cougarness and ‘well i never!’ esque tone. (and she certainly does seem to turn to drink for that very reason.)
but why would u ever compare an OPERA SINGER to classic literature when u could instead compare her to the stage and screen? she’s an actress with a theatrical personality. and that’s where the lgbt readding comes in, as well as why so many lgbt people are attached to manuela, and characters like manuela, in my opinion.
the grande dame has a storied history with the lgbt community. first and foremost, in western society, there was a long history where only men could be actors (this was true in many other places of course, but we’re focusing on the west as manuela’s characterization is mostly focused on western tropes).
matronly older women characters played for comedic effect (such as the nurse in romeo&juliet, among other such classic roles), were thus played by men in drag. but the tradition of drag for matronly older women in theatre continued long after, to the point where the ‘pantomine dame’ is a storied character/trope in british pantomine---noted for its camp and ‘over the top’ performances, and the tradition continued across the sea in vaudeville drag performances---where lgbt people could graduate from grande dame roles to primma donnas in starring roles as women themselves, regardless of their assigned gender.
after the decline of the vaudeville era BECAUSE of its connection to the lgbt community (and sex work) during the prohibition/”progressive” era, the grande dame (and the inherent camp/gay sensibility of an older woman) did not just STOP EXISTING in the consciousness of western people, and especially not western lgbt people.
no, instead, the grande dame evolved into a still classically camp (over the top, out of place) but a character ever-more entangled in other classic tropes for tough/fierce/unhinged/dramatic women, that we still can see traces of today in every genre that lgbt people are attracted to.
from horror (whatever happened to baby jane and the 'hagsploitation’ that followed it) to musicals (mama rose in ‘rose’s turn’ is literally my tag for manuela but also cats the musical’s ‘memories’ could basically be the benevolent/sad grande dame mood), to fairy tales and children’s stories (Mother Gothel from tangled tho u could make a case for every disney woman villain and also scar as being one tbh, but also mia’s mother in a princess diaries is definitely one, and so is professor macgonagall), to spy dramas (judi dench), to biopics (from joan crawford to every queen pretty much ever) alllll the way back around to drag again (if you’ve ever watched drag race? half the winning snatch games are dames lol). to basically everything ryan murphy has ever done in his whole damn life, especially with Mother Jessica Lange.
the grande dame’s mean strictness and spite has come to represent a trapping for her secret vulnerability/softness (which is the source of her beauty), something lgbt people in particular can relate to as they have to hide their self/love from a world. the camp grande dame is almost always obsessed with beauty and age (so much of our community can’t picture getting old---or doesn’t want to, with many people being deathly afraid of hair loss due to hormones, etc. and then when it comes to attractiveness, attractiveness is often our measure of worth especially in the trans and gay sector, where ‘passing’ or ‘masculinity’ is viewed as a shorthand for ‘respectability’---and so many of us judge each other so harshly based on looks.) but more than anything, the grande dame is always LONELY, or alone, whether it be from being the best/most powerful/rich (and it’s lonely at the top), or in imposed exile due to her age/lack of beauty, the terrible things she’s done, the grande dame is almost always a metaphor for lgbt loneliness.
manuela’s characterization very much abides by these classic camp/gay sensibilities (as well as the classic ones). the modern day gay reading of the grande dame is a much more textured and layered one---but often, grande dames such as they done by judi dench in the 007 movies, or even ryan murphy using jessica lange in the politician---are still objectified by the male gaze with either sexual jokes, or as being made ‘more’ OR ‘less’ than human.... because the grande dame is such a stock trope (even when more complicated by Us Gays), the grande dame is either hypercompetent (in the case of litcherally all of judi dench’s characters or julie andrews’ characters, a Badass Older Woman who is not allowed to be anything more Than Tough And Perfect even when she is in a frenzied huff) or, on the other side of the coin, a complete and total joke or a sob story or picture of an abuser (or all three at once), such as in the case of All Jessica Lange’s Ryan Murphy Characters. Please God Let This Woman Be Free Of Ryan Murphy’s Clutches.
manuela, to me, represents an interesting figure in the Grand Canon of Grande Dames.
because while she is in every way an anime character---she represents a trope in anime we don’t see often. there are not a lot of older women characters in anime, and when they are---they are usually mid-20s maximum, or they are Sexually Dominant Women, extremely strong and competent women that Can And Will Beat Your Ass ( such as in the case of tsunade from naruto OR lotus from 999, etc). manuela is, thankfully, neither of these.
while fe3h presents manuela as a joke---like classic grande dames were presented as jokes,  the way that manuela is presented, is as an ANIME character with ANIME jokes to people who are ALL familiar at this point with anime jokes, and we are able to relate to her more on a human level than we would relate to the fussy, bitter, overly loquacious grande dames of literature.
the average anime gamer can’t relate to a jane austen biddy talking to you about how the man you are dating is not of marriagable status, and does not think that is funny. but the average anime gamer WILL see you give manuela a porn magazine she thinks is ‘very valuable’ and chuckle a bit to themselves.
but more than that---the game really wants you to LIKE manuela. it makes her relatable to the average gamer who hasn’t cleaned their room in weeks---that sometimes will eat food off the floor, that likes to sing a little too loudly and who feels lonely sometimes (or always).
and even more than any of that, instead of presenting manuela as an UGLY or evil old woman, or an abuser, or an extremely rich woman, and in presenting manuela instead as so very likable and funny, it presents manuela as someone who looks and acts desirable as a friend (and a lover). manuela is a grande dame who is not only sympathetic---she’s human AND FLAWED, just like you, even when her behavior is all jokes and huffiness.
you WANT to be manuela’s friend. you WANT to look deeper into manuela as a person and not a trope---even though she is OBJECTIVELY made up of anime jokes and stock character tropes!
and so this game ends up painting a picture of a lonely woman, a woman who considers herself weak, a woman who is messy, and funny, and loud, who fights (and sometimes is bested by those who are stronger than her)--who pushes other women out of the way to get ahead, but still loves children, who still wants (and deserves) to be loved. even tho most of this information, as manuela relays it to you, is viewed as comedic.
and as manuela is not painted as the grande dame who is a villain---as she is painted so beautifully and theatrically in opera tropes---you can really and truly see her as the star of her own show, a lovely woman trying to live her life the best she can in an adult world that is hard and cruel. just like you are, regardless of ur gender, age, or sexuality.
and from that point of understanding manuela as the grande dame, u can extrapolate manuela in ur own tropes that view her as more human and Deep---and in my opinion, most powerfully, that she is a bisexual woman and hopeless romantic that is most interested in ‘princely’/strong women types. but that’s a hc post for another day.
manuela is THE SUPREME ANIME GRANDE DAME and that anime recontextualization makes her a much better representation of older women than western canon grande dames, the end, send tweet.
