I was thinking about the show. Sansa and LF has talk about Lyanna and Rhaegar and how she was abducted and raped. The conversation was in crypts of WF. And then she got married to Ramsey and got raped. She was stuck in WF like Lyanna was in Tower of Joy. Lyanna couldn't escaped from her fate and she has last conversation with her brother Ned. Sansa was able to escape and she met Jon and they together took WF. I don't know if makers knew what they were doing despite incoherent writing.
Me every day of the week: “…and that is yet another nonsense writing choice. D&D had no idea what they were doing!”
Also me: “As I was saying, that is the level of meticulous foreshadowing and care they had…”
I contain multitudes! 😂
The connection between Sansa and Lyanna seemed very deliberate, anon. This post talks about R/L and if you scroll down someone added pictures. D&D had little girl Lyanna wear the same hairstyle as Sansa when she was young, and they had the same hairstyle as adults. The shift that Lyanna is shown wearing on her deathbed matches the one Sansa wore while Ramsay's prisoner. I really don't think that could have happened accidently. Seriously, look at the pics.
So, we got the contrast between Jon and Rhaegar, with Lyanna dying far from home and Jon returning Sansa to Winterfell. That makes sense, to me, that the canon era characters are a variation on the pre canon story. For GoT-verse, most of us assumed the association there (and the turning of R/L into a straightforward romance) meant this generation's Targ prince (Jon) would also be in love with a Stark girl (Sansa). Now, that never was made explicit, some say it was never a thing, but it occurs to me that we also have the finale of the show to consider, and while Rhaegar's "love" for Lyanna led to her death, Jon's love for her meant that Sansa lived.

Secret Santa Gift for Lucife56
Happy Holidays @Lucife56 and enjoy a bonus ficlet of Jaime/Elia in an AU where she survived the rebellion! Your Secret Santa gift ‘The Wasting Crown,’ a Ned/Cersei AU, is being posted on AO3.
There had been a summer, when his father and sister were at court and he was home from squiring Crakehall, that his Uncle Kevan had sent him down to his cousins in Lannisport to bend his energy and attention to seafaring. At the time, even resentful as he was without Cersei, Jaime Lannister had felt that sailing and navigating and all the activity that went with it was a bit of a lark, and he did not so much learn a craft but play at it in the noble way of a future lord paramount. In the height of summer, with a fully manned ship to attend him, sailing had seemed the easiest and most pleasurable thing to accomplish.
In the moons since the fall of the Targaryen dynasty, he had long since reconsidered his youthful view. All manner of voyaging the seas was treacherous work, and made only slightly more so by the fact that he and his charges were fugitives of the crown.
On that first panicked trip to Myr, his hands had burned under the pull of the ropes and there hadn’t been a muscle that hadn’t ached. And, while his body had learned the motions and the strength needed to earn his keep on any vessel, he lacked entirely the instincts that could bring a ship from port to port, around storm and pirate.
Jaime could not say what it did for his pride that it was Princess Elia who proved the better sailor and the more valued companion for the crew, even having shed their titles and nobility to book passage in the chaos surrounding the sack of King’s Landing. Elia was a quick hand at repairing sails and nets, at mending torn vestments and soothing wounded men. She knew better and raunchier stories (though Jaime suspected that these were borrowed from her brother) and could tease the entire ship into singing on windless days when tempers blew hard. If the sellsails suspected a higher bearing for either of them - and on the first ship, they almost certainly did, if for no other reason than that they found him gratingly unskilled - Elia’s charm and beauty were enough to stay their tongues.
Where Jaime had boarded a ship for Myr a disgraced kingsguard with the supplanted princesses and prince of the Targaryen reign, it was Lann and his wife Nym, and their two children Rhae and Dunk, who set sail for Lys. And it was Joff and his son Davos, with hair cut so short their scalps gleamed in the sunlight, who befriended Mariah and her child Ash, delicate featured but styled as a boy, on the way to Qarth. In Astapor, Yunkai and Meereen, he had been a sellsword guarding a merchant’s daughter as she toured the cities with her children. He had been husband again by Volantis, and through Tyrosh to Pentos, and now, hunting for a ship to Braavos, he was beginning to fear that he had either completely exhausted his repertoire for aliases and professions or could no longer tell the difference between lie and truth.
His middling talent for fiction aside, Jaime found that he was quite unable to pretend away the closeness that came with pretending to be a husband, and, whatever name she wore, Elia had become as familiar to him as Cersei had ever been. Which is why he knew to be suspicious when Prince Aegon, nearly four name days, was not there to greet him with endless questions about the ships in the harbor, and when Elia’s face was too carefully serene, and when Princess Rhaenys burst into giggles when his greeting gave way to a grumpy frown.
“Any luck on booking passage?” Elia plated a selection of sweet meats and fruits for him, the rewards of their earlier market trip, setting it in front of the chair he favored in their rented house.
“A few possibilities,” Jaime rolled a grape between his fingers, observing the graceful courtesies that Elia extended naturally and noting that there was something sharp and stubborn in her eyes that he knew was going to be a source of trouble. “I will ask around about the captains tomorrow, and see if I can spot any familiar faces in their crews.”
“We’ve been lucky so far,” Elia commented, handing Rhaenys a sliver of melon before tiding up the remains of dinner to be served again at breakfast.
“I know I’m not always the best at identifying times to be cautious, but this seems a reasonable safeguard,” His stomach growled and, as much as he wanted to be focused on what Elia had yet to tell him, hunger won out. The simple meal, unpreserved and unsmoked and likely grown in a garden less than a day’s ride from their rooms, was something to be treasured when faced with weeks of hard tack and fish at sea.
“Why do we need to be cautious Papa?” Rhaenys asked, brazenly stealing another bit of melon from his plate.
“Why Rhae, it’s because you are too beautiful and too clever and all the world would like to have you for their very own,” Jaime’s heart no longer wrenched at being called father, though he still could not escape the itching memory of fleeing everything he had ever known in clothes borrowed from a dead man with his wife and children.
Rhaenys no longer knew she was a princess, no longer knew that she was anything more than a sailing sellsword’s daughter with a seamstress mother, but her disbelief was near imperious. “Be serious Papa!”
“Mama and papa have to work, little Rhae,” Elia’s voice was firm as she sidestepped the question, though he could hear in it the echoes conversations they’d been having since Tyrosh. The children were getting too old to be fooled and heard more than they should — and that was dangerous for keeping secrets. “That is why we will go and live in Braavos.”
Jaime distracted Rhaenys with a slice of orange. There was time enough to explain the dangers of the world to her when she was older. “And where’s Maron hiding?” The false name the rightful king of Westeros believed to be his own.
“Why, Tom,” And, as always, it took him a moment to remember this was the name he had settled on. “I am ever a dutiful wife and I noticed how you adored the fashions of Tyrosh.”
“How thoughtful,” He remembered no such thing, had thought the Tyroshi disturbing and gauche in truth, but Rhaenys was giggling again. “Did you trade Maron for some pear brandy and jewel toned silks?”
“No, no Papa,” a voice burst from the courtyard, followed by a mass of pale limbs and bright, bright blue. “Mama would never trade me away.”
Prince Aegon smiled up at him, teeth flashing, and looked so much like Prince Rhaegar in the lines of his face that it took a beat to realize that his fine silver hair was blue.
Seven hells, his hair was blue.
“It’s always so silly that people comment on Maron’s hair,” Elia’s phrasing was obviously for the children’s benefit, as her direct gaze was for his. “And the children and I thought it would be even sillier if we gave them a better reason to look.”
“Mama bought the dye in Tyrosh,” Rhaenys added, dancing around her brother. “So it will last for a really long time because the Tyroshi are experts. Mama said.”
“Except,” And Elia gave the sly smile that always preceded an embarrassment for him of some sort. “I think it looks quite silly for my son to do this alone, don’t you, my dear?”
This was worse than he had thought, far worse. “Perhaps you or Rhae -“
“Our hair is too dark,” Elia shook her head in mock sadness, though Rhaenys’ pout as she held out the ends of her dark braid at least gave the farce some measure of truth. “Come children, let’s get ready to dye Papa’s hair.”
The children were a blur as they ran in search of buckets and whatever else they deemed necessary for inflicting this horror on him. He kept his voice low, just in case. “Elia, I don’t want to dye my hair.”
The smile she gave was truly sympathetic, even if her eyes promised that she would have no nonsense. “Dark hair is common enough in Braavos, Jaime. Rhaenys and I could walk down the streets in Martell colors and no one would think of it overmuch. But Aegon’s coloring is all Valyrian and even in Essos that is increasingly rare.”
“Robert thinks you dead,” Jaime murmured. “Every rumor we’ve heard on the way back from Qarth has agreed on that.”
He can hear the excited banging of buckets as the children prepare to play this new game that seems all strange silliness to them and that is all strategy to Elia. She thinks little of his vanity, Jaime knows, but he wonders if she is as aware of their intimacy as he is. When she walks over to him, propping her hip against the table, all he can think of is how soon he will be pressed against her in their berth on the way to Braavos and of her holding him close after he woke from yet another nightmare of Aerys’ court last night.
“Targaryen silver, Lannister gold. Enough rumors with both and Robert may change his mind.”
This too is a discussion that they have had more than once. Jaime’s father would surely welcome him back. Jaime’s twin, his other half, is Robert’s queen. Elia’s brothers had raged when there was no sign of her or her children. He has to believe that they could find a way home, to trade a dead king and future heirs and a returned kingdom for their safety.
“Viserys and Daenerys are in Braavos as well,” Elia adds, reaching out to card one hand through his hair and, he hopes perversely, enjoying the shade of it.
“Too many Targaryens in one basket,” Jaime winces. “I know you Elia. You intend to meet with them, yes? If it is too dangerous to return to your brother’s household, then you really shouldn’t be chasing after the Targaryens that Robert knows about.”
“Viserys is ten. His sister is two. They shouldn’t be on their own.”
Jaime had been ill prepared to venture out into the world at seven and ten without the safety of his father’s name; he couldn’t imagine doing so at eight. “Her Grace protected Viserys, but there wasn’t anyone in the Red Keep that didn’t know he could no more take pressure and stress and failure than Aerys could. He’ll have broken under it.”
“Children are resilient. There may be hope yet,” Elia’s delicate features danced with warmth and kindness and good humor. Now that he knew her plotting, it was easier to be in her company.
“And to keep our children -“ The feeling of being a fraud was fading more every day. “- safe and amused I need to have blue hair.”
Jaime didn’t know when it had ceased to be a question that he would give in to Elia’s demands.
“I am pleased we understand one another ser,” Elia leaned forward to brush a kiss across his forehead, lingering a measure that was either familial or loving, before disappearing to marshall the children to strip him of his golden crown.
Alone with the rinds of his dinner, he felt her touch like a brand, and he wanted to ask if she ever wondered which Lannister and Martell siblings their mothers had hoped would marry, and he wanted to ask if she still thought of Rhaegar and if she mourned him or cursed him, and he wanted to tell her of how betrayed he felt by Cersei’s marriage and how wretched he thought he should be now that she was with Robert’s child. He wondered if her appreciation of his glibness and irreverence was just another way she made do, and if he was still a knight of the kingsguard, and if she thought of him as a king slayer. He wondered, above all, what she thought and what she felt when her children called him father.
Jaime wondered who he could ask if it was a virtue and a sign of honor that he asked her none of this as the children laughed him to the buckets of water, scraps of linen, and dispiritingly large bottle of dye to turn his hair from gold to hues of blue.
But then Tom the sailing sellsword knew his wife Mariah loved him, even if he did like the Tyroshi custom of brightly colored hair. And it was Tom and Mariah, and their children Rhae and Moran, who would settle in Braavos to ply their trades and build their lives. And any answers that Jaime Lannister could gain would be lesser truths than those.

“You Win or You Die” - M/M Game of Thrones/ASoIaF RP (email, 18+)
Hey, all! My name is Liz, I’m 30, and quarantine’s got me itching for fantasy. XD I know it’s not the big thing that it was several years ago (or even a favorite after last year >_>...), but I hope there’s still some people out there who’d like to toss around some Game of Thrones AU ideas with me! Let’s tweak the failures of the ending seasons or throw them out altogether and do something different! I am very fond of “everybody lives” AUs and flipping things around, haha. I’m also a fan of Jon/Dany ruling the throne together (after earning a happy ending, of course! Let’s have some fun! **I would also like to try a Jaime/Rhaegar pairing - maybe Rhaegar somehow survives the battle against Robert and goes into hiding, only to resurface years later? I’d love to play around with a broken, lost Rhaegar and a doubting Jaime in the aftermath of Robert (and Ned’s?) death! (Bold italic = a character that I’d prefer to play in a pairing Italic = I can play either character in a pairing) Pairings: Jon/Daenerys**** Robb/Theon Renly/Loras**** Jaime/Rhaegar**** ALSO Jon/genderbent!Daenerys***** Loras/genderbent!Sansa Jon/Satin Jon/Samwell**** Marvel/MCU Along with GoT, I’m also interested in Marvel! Specifically tales about our dear God of Thunder, Thor. I’d love to do something around the time of “The Dark World” or something like a warlord/jotun AU.. I have several more ideas (of varying depth and complexity, lol. Also perhaps involving Loki’s shape-shifting powers and/or some compromising positions….XD), and would love to discuss! Pairings Thor/Loki (also warlord!Thor/Jotun!Loki)*** BONUS Twilight I’m looking to scratch another itch that never quite got scratched. Namely, Twilight - but genderbent. Bella becomes Beau (or something else), and everyone gets aged up a fair bit, overall story changes, etc. I’m quite inspired by a line I was working once with a lovely partner that never quite got off the ground (and whose idea I was greatly inspired by), and I’d still quite like to explore it now. I’d love to do a riff on the books/movies, but going our own way (and, of course, tweaking things in the original that Just Didn’t Make Sense. **coughsparklingcough**) We definitely don’t have to hold to the ‘high school romance’ trope - in fact, I’d rather we didn’t! I’d love to do something with a college-aged male!Bella and an Edward who is, as well, aged up a bit - perhaps in their early-to-mid 20’s? What if the two meet, not as a result of schooling, but due to being co-workers? Or just out on the street one day? And there’s more of a focus on the murders going on in Forks? As well, what if the whole ‘vampire/werewolf rivalry’ doesn’t exist? Simply because I’d like to focus on the one main pairing (but wouldn’t mind having Jacob in as, like...a best friend? Actually giving him a personality outside of ‘romanceable person B’? Anyway, I’d just like to toy around with things and see what might come of it! Pairing Edward/male!Bella ~~~~~ Rules: Being 30, I can and do write smut. As such, I will only write with you if you're 20+. I'm sorry, it has nothing to do with talent or ability; it's simply a matter of comfort on my end. I'm also not into PWP/Smut for smut's sake. I like my sexy times to come up naturally in the narrative and help to move a story along. However! I am just as happy getting an R+ scene going and letting it fade naturally, if it's something we're both rather more comfortable with. I find that smut is not always necessary to make a good story. Similarly, I am looking for a partner that's mostly-literate (few spelling errors outside of typos, decent comprehension of the English language, some fair amount of detail in replies; something to work with). I myself have been writing and role-playing for 15+ years. My personal style is third-person paragraph-format (with a preference for past-tense, though I can do present-tense, if we decide together that it works better), and fairly detailed at that - especially when my inspiration is up. I like to explore my characters and their motivations just as much as the scene around them and the actions that they are responding to. I can write multiple paragraphs per post, but will happily match you, as well, depending on how the flow goes. However, I would ask that, at a minimum, you write one paragraph. Ideally 2-4 per post, but more is always welcome, and less is understandable. I know that dialogue-heavy scenes can be sporadic and choppy, and that muses don't always cooperate. That's perfectly fine! I just need something to reply to, and in return will give you the same! I try to reply at least once a day, but this can shift to several times a week, depending, as I do have a job, and my availability can fluctuate depending on how busy I am and how fickle my muse is. I freely admit this, and let you know that there is absolutely no pressure. I am a very chill person. If we can only get several posts per week on both ends, that's completely cool! We all have lives. More often than not, it will be at least once a day, even if it's just checking in and chatting through OOC just to work on plot or to chat about our day! I am looking for someone who enjoys plotting and chatting and who's not afraid to toss ideas back and forth - but, as well, who understands if one of us won't be around for a day or so. I'm looking for someone who, likewise, doesn't mind tossing ideas out at odd hours of the day/night and chattering just to chat because the rush of ideas is too much. Flexibility is great! Most of all, I just want to have fun! I'm very open and friendly, and will listen to everything you say. If there is something that bothers you, or you have a limit that we haven't gone over, please let me know! I'd like things to work out for both of us! As well, if you've reached out to me in the past and would like to try again (or even pick up an old thread), I happily welcome you to send me a message! I'm completely chill! Limits: Vore, toiletplay/bathroom, underage, bestiality. **Also please note that I WILL NOT reply to an email that's simply "hey wanna rp?". I don't mean to sound uptight but, sorry, no. I would appreciate a bit more effort than that, as it will prove to me that you have read my ad in its entirety. As proof that you have read this, please tell me the title of your favorite book. ^^ If you've made it through that huge thing, then thank you so very much for reading! Before you go, I have one more request to ask of you. When you contact me, please, please, PLEASE include: any ideas/plots you might want to work out, which character(s) you would like to play, your age and timezone, and any limits you may have. And, most importantly, tell me a little bit about yourself! I'd like to get to know you! (I have a Discord, as well, and would be more than happy to give it out if you decide you'd like to use it as a chat platform!) My contact information is: [email protected] If any of this interests you, I'd love to hear from you!

A blog of ice and fire: Thoughts on Game of Thrones season 7 (spoilers!)
New Post has been published on https://esonetwork.com/a-blog-of-ice-and-fire-thoughts-on-game-of-thrones-season-7-spoilers/
A blog of ice and fire: Thoughts on Game of Thrones season 7 (spoilers!)
The first six seasons of Game of Thrones were a slow-burn build-up, full of simmering tension, constantly shifting alliances, and a brutal battle for control of the Iron Throne.
In season 7, it feels like the showrunners really hit the gas pedal, and all these narrative pieces start coming together rapidly. Daenerys is finally ready to challenge Cersei for the Iron Throne, but standing in both of their ways is the growing threat of the Night King and his army of the dead.
A tale of two queens
Cersei and Dany continue to be two of the most fascinating characters on this show, even though I’m not really rooting for either of them to take the Iron Throne in the end.
On the surface, Cersei is the show’s irredeemable villain and Dany is the hero, riding in to save Westeros from a seemingly endless cycle of violence and upheaval. But, this show has always been more of a Shakespearean tragedy than a feel-good fantasy tale, and there’s a lot of nuance to these characters, once you dig beneath the surface.
I’ve talked before in my Game of Thrones blog series that even though Cersei is a ruthless schemer, at certain moments I do feel sorry for her. She really does love her children, and watching them die one by one is genuinely heartbreaking for her. Her father and her husband both used her as a pawn in the game of thrones, and her codependent relationship with her brother Jaime is unhealthy for both of them. Plus, Lena Headey’s performance makes Cersei such a compelling character that even though you’re hoping for her downfall, she’s a vital part of what makes this show work so well.
As for Dany, in the first couple of seasons I was really cheering for her and I wanted to see her triumph. She’s a character who’s been beaten down and, like Cersei, has often been used as a pawn by the people around her. Yet there’s a darkness within Dany, hidden beneath the surface, that you don’t really see until later in the series.
Dany has a kind heart and compassion for the powerless and the suffering, but she can also be brutal to those who oppose her. One of the questions I’ve been pondering throughout my time watching this series is, “Does Dany go too far in her pursuit of justice? And should she do a better job of showing mercy?” Although her new adviser, Tyrion Lannister, fully supports her, you can see his growing concern with her determination to squelch her opposition.
On the one hand, I do understand that Dany is trying to consolidate her power and make a strong case for why she should sit on the Iron Throne. Yet sometimes her actions strike me as too harsh, and I worry that she may be tempted to cross too far over into the dark side. (Actually, I know she does this, since I’ve heard season 8 spoilers.)
One of the show’s primary themes is that a desire for power can become a consuming, corrupting force that can cause even good-hearted people like Dany to stumble. Is it possible to wield that much power and still remain pure of heart? So far, the Iron Throne hasn’t really brought anyone peace or fulfillment, and pretty much everyone who’s sat in it has become corrupted in some way and come to an unhappy end.
The prince that was promised
A character who offers an interesting contrast to this desperate struggle for power is Jon Snow, who, despite being a natural leader, doesn’t really seem to crave power or influence. When he’s named King in the North, he accepts the honor with humility and is one of the few leaders in Westeros who really does care about helping his people. His interactions with Dany show that he’s willing to set aside his own pride to recruit allies for the coming war against the Night King.
Of course, if you’ve already watched this season, you know by now that there’s a REALLY BIG twist when it comes to Jon and Dany. As in, Jon was never actually Ned’s illegitimate son, and as the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark, he actually has a claim to the Iron Throne himself. And this whole situation gets even weirder and more complicated because this reveal comes right as Jon and Dany have started a romantic relationship.
We’ve already got one incest subplot going on in Game of Thrones, so I’m really not a fan of adding ANOTHER one. I wish they would have either gone with “tragic romance between a queen and one of her advisers” OR “two allies whose friendship is compromised when they learn they could be rivals.”
Anyway, none of this is going to come to a happy ending, but I guess I’ll just have to wait until the next season to see how it all plays out.
Also, this is somewhat of a random side note, but I couldn’t end this blog without commenting on the downfall of one of my favorite characters, Olenna Tyrell. Even though she technically loses to House Lannister, she still gets the last laugh by telling Jaime that she was the one who assassinated Joffrey. Lady Tyrell is an icon, and I still maintain that she deserved to sit on the Iron Throne.
The long night
Season 7 really starts to drive home just how dangerous the Night King and his army of the dead are. Like, this is a potentially world-ending event if they cannot be stopped. And to heighten this feeling of utter terror descending across Westeros, the season ends with an UNDEAD DRAGON blasting the seemingly impenetrable Wall with blue fire and then blowing a hole in it big enough to march an army through.
While I already know the final season is going to be nerve-wracking to watch, I am looking forward to seeing pretty much all the power players in Westeros setting aside their differences (at least for one battle) and teaming up to fight the undead.
Up till this point, I’ve been able to borrow copies of the previous seasons of Game of Thrones, but season 8 has not been released on home video yet. However, I discovered I can sign up for a free trial of the HBO streaming service, so I have exactly one week to binge watch the entire final season. So, see you on the other side!

Emissary - A Deputy Recursive Crossover (142 boops)
Deputy Commander (139 boops)
Notes and FAQ
"What's a boop?" It means the fic saw some amount of activity during one of my software's scan periods. Currently this is seven and half minutes. So one could say that the Taylor Varga thread was continuously active for one day, three hours and fifty-two minutes this week. Whew, that's a lot!
"But that one has too many boops! It couldn't have been that active!" Well, keep in mind, these numbers are aggregated across all of the sources I scan: SB, SV, QQ, AO3 and FFNET.
"But they have too few boops! I know it was more active than that!" Hah, well, mostly my software scans ever seven and half minutes. Except it's still running on my laptop, so not when I'm commuting or a handful of other occasions.
New to the fandom? "Quests" are little interactive games between the author and the readers where the readers vote on how the story progresses. While they're probably best enjoyed by participating they can often be solid stories unto themselves.
Relatedly, "CYOA"s are little guides to setting, theme and character creation often used by folks writing SIs.
The word counts and chapter counts often (usually) include omake, so keep that in mind.
Days in the range are inclusive, so ALL of each day. Start and end of days are in UTC. So if you're posting on Friday evenings in the US you'll be in the next week's listing.
I might have missed you, especially if your fic was new or returning from a long hiatus. I mean, I really hope not? But possibly! My methods aren't perfect. If I did, please let me know and I'll make sure you get picked up in the future!
I pick up oneshots from personal oneshot/snippet threads, but not from the global one. (No threadmarks!) So if you want your oneshots included, start up your own personal thread to archive them.
I do an early draft of this over on the Cauldron Discord on Thursday evenings or Friday mornings (PDT). If you want to help out, joining and providing feedback then would be awesome!
Technical blather
Starting this week I've been using mostly automatic software to scan for new and updated fics. In previous weeks I watched updates by eye and ran them by hand. This week I had the machine do it.
There's an RSS feed, if you're inclined that way.
If you're technically inclined, you can find the source for the generator over on github. I'm afraid the source is kinda garbage though. You can also find the giiiagantic JSON file I use as source material.
Previous weeks:
Jun 3rd - June 9th
