While I was looking at hopepunk/solarpunk stuff I found https://fallingfruit.org/ and I am SO excited because last year I found a "hey what's this and is it edible" and it turned out to be wild american plum and it TURNS OUT there are several on a university campus near me. I've lost the post I found it in or I'd just reblog that, but, here's this post at least. A lot of markings for things like "this tree is on private property but hangs onto public land" or "tree is on public property" or "this location uploaded by property owner," when things are ripe, notes about the fruit being really up high or whatever. (obviously ymmv, maybe your local fruit-sharers are not as helpful.) There are no markings in my immediate town, but I'll change that. "My" plum tree, black raspberries, mulberries... I know some goodies.

I always, always pay the $3 or $5 or whatever to do the animal feeding at the zoo. I have been disappointed exactly once. (That was feeding parakeets, they weren't really interested in it, I get better parrot interaction at the pet store.)
I have ALSO seen this -- do the things you wanted to do as a kid -- recommended to people in rehab. It was a tumblr post, I believe, possibly a twitter thread. That the people were discussing how they didn't even know what to do with themselves when they DEFINITELY couldn't go hang out with their druggie friends. And the OP said hey, I know what you should do, what's that thing you wanted to do when you were younger but your parents said there was no money for it? "Huh?" You know, you wanted to take ballet or something and your mom said no? " :O I always wanted an easy bake oven!!" "I wanted to go to horse camp!" And when OP left they were excitedly looking at ebay and continuing education courses.
So take care of your inner child, take care of yourself. :)
If you’re an adult, do the stuff you couldn’t as a kid.
Like, me and my sister went to a museum, and they had an extra exhibit of butterflies. But it cost £3. So we sighed, walked past, then stopped. We each had £3. We could see the butterflies. And we did it was great. We followed it up with an ice-cream as well because Mum and Dad weren’t there to say no.
I was driving back from a work trip with 2 other people in their early 20s, and we drove past a MacDonalds. One of the others went “Aww man, I’d love a McFlurry.” And the guy driving pulled in to the drive through. It was wild. But it was great.
I went to a park over the weekend and I was thinking “Man, I’d love to hire one of those bikes and cycle round the park.” It took me a few minutes to go “Wait, I can hire one of those bikes!”
I guess what I’m saying is, those impulsive things you wanted to do as a kid - see the dinosaur exhibit, play in the fountains with the other kids, lie in the shade for 2 hours - you can do when you’re an adult. You have to deal with a whole lot of other bull, but at least you can indulge your inner 8 year-old.

I'm doing Dracula Daily for the first time this year after watching excitedly in previous years and I would like to share my recipe for chicken hendl/paprikash, somewhat based on my (slovak) grandmother-in-law's recipe. And for a slow cooker and a big batch.
The best part of this recipe, for me, is the memory of my mom copying it down for another family member and stopping to say "Excuse me does this say a quarter CUP of paprika??"
3+ lbs boneless chicken (we usually use thighs, obviously if you want to use something with bones just account for the weight. Recipe also works with rabbit.) 1.5 cup chicken broth black pepper 1 Tbsp butter 1/4 cup paprika (we use spanish because we can get that in bulk, please report back on results of what you use. Caution against using smoked because it gets to be Too Much very quickly.) 1 tsp marjoram, or thyme if you don't have marjoram on hand because who does 1 red bell pepper, in strips 1 shallot, in thin slices, or an onion, we just use shallot because I hate the texture and this way there's less of it 3 Tbsp tomato paste (~50g) . 1/2 cup sour cream, light is fine 1 Tbsp flour 3/4 tsp salt . carb to serve over (noodles/dumplings are probably most traditional, we like mashed potatoes)
Everything in the first section, into the slow cooker, about 3-4 hours on low or until stuff falls apart. (chicken breast doesn't always fall apart as well until you start stirring and poking at it.)
Mix the last 3 ingredients together and add to the pot, let heat through with the lid off while you prepare your carbs.
Grab yourself a plate/bowl of carbs and pour your delicious chicken sludge on top. Enjoy!

Hi friends, it’s Addie! This is gonna be, an open call!!!
I haven’t been doing well, I’ve been struggling to find explicit motivation if that makes any sense? I wanted to ask you all to submit posts, fics, series that you’ve written or enjoy, as a little motivator? Reading makes me feel better.
I also want to ask for your input on what fics of mine you think I should continue? I’m having a hard time deciding altogether and it’s getting hard?
Thank you all, very much.

One year (2000-2001 maybe?), some well-off friends in another country invited my family to come join them on a holiday vacation, which is of course an amazing opportunity/something we couldn't otherwise afford* etc etc that we scrambled to take advantage of. It went long enough on both sides of winter break that we would have failed the entire school year if we didn't get absences excused in advance, lots of advance homework, taking tests before we left, reading list, etc. Turns out all that prep didn't matter. It snowed SO MUCH while we were gone that school had to be cancelled for SO LONG that we wouldn't have failed anything.
So, a distinctive memory of a brutally snowy winter in my childhood.
Which has not happened recently even despite polar vortexes.
*I have talked about my parents being well off and they could probably do this sort of thing now, but at the time dropping this sort of cash would not have been remotely possible.
it's kind of crazy climate change has occurred at such a remarkable pace that I and everyone else around my age can remember a completely different climate in our childhoods. I truly watched winter gradually disappear in my life.

Sooo I was rewatching Too Many Cooks because I adore niche media and horror, and the earworm of a theme song. I saw a character who looked super familiar?
And I was like, I know that name. So a bit of googling led too
It’s only like six seconds of filming but I found it interesting!!! It was in 2014 so Gwydion would’ve been like 19-20, due to filming.

We have a robot vacuum named Herbert. Herbert has (had) a pair of googly eyes. Today the googly eyes fell off. This leaves behind two dark spots where dust/sun have not reached, and two circles of dried-up glue.
The effect is that of a robot vacuum skull/zombie bumping blindly around the kitchen. It is actually very unsettling and I can't watch.
We will pick up more googly eyes in town on Monday.
#addie talks#humans will pack bond with anything#you see 'hoover' is a brand of vacuums and 'herbert hoover' was a president (who sucked)

Hi friends,
With its evident success, I’ve decided to make Hateful Recollections a series/miniseries. I haven’t decided which yet. But I know I’m working on a part two. I know that I’m really excited to share it with yall. I know that I’m so very grateful for all of the love and support.
I’ve been writing as long as I can remember, and I’m thrilled that I’m getting back into it and that I can share it with everyone. I’m thrilled to get to know all of you.
From the bottom of my heart that’s a bit too big, thank you so very much.

I used to help moderate a website and we were dealing with a presumably young-teen user who was, among other things, making impassioned pleas that they should be able to do violent Warrior Cats roleplay on our pg-13-at-worst website aimed at people with executive dysfunction, crying about censorship/free expression/oppression, speaking poor japanese and claiming it happened when she was upset, etc.
And in the moderator forum where we were thisclose to banning her if she didn't stfu (and we eventually had to because she escalated sharply) , I commented, "She reminds me of me when I was 14, and I absolutely do not mean that as a compliment."
Almost exactly that stupid! Would have gone to other forums instead of insisting I needed dispensation to break the rules, and would have felt very sneaky about it, but otherwise the same!
Be annoyed but remember you, too, were annoying!
watched some video about a shitty kid yesterday and caught myself thinking "my god the kids these days are out of control" and praise the Lord I immediately reflexively scolded myself like "you were exactly this stupid when you were 13, stupider probably, here's a memory of you doing and saying something so completely terrible because you were a kid and kids don't know better" you cannot let up your vigilance even for a moment, you must constantly fight against age related conservatism and never stop internally interrogating your reactions

Hey so I saw today that Trump is claiming God wants him to win, and so I'm going to bring to Tumblr's attention a suggestion I make every 4 years ahead of the debates:
Dear God, god/s, goddess/es, Divine whatevers, etc etc, please make yourself known at the debate and save us from a close election. Henotheistic rules apply, multiple answers accepted. If you're the Christian God, pick your loser and have them pee themselves. If you're the Jewish G-d, pick your loser and have them poop themselves. If you're the Muslim God, pick your loser and have them vomit on themselves. If you're a Hindu god/dess, pick your loser and have them have a seizure (an absence seizure like Mitch McConnell was having; if they have a big one and have bodily functions happen then that's everyone). If you're anyone else, please have your loser choke violently on their water and we'll issue new challenges for the next debate.
(My apologies to folks with seizure disorders/digestive woes/etc, I do not think a disability is a divine punishment -- but I think you know better than anyone that doing those things at a debate would get nasty comments and tank one's campaign.)

I wanna start writing for Steve, Robin, Argyle, Nancy, Gareth and Billy. I will be going semi off script (I have a whole presentation on how Billy didn’t need to be racist in order to be a villain, amongst other qualms I have with the duffers. As a person of color his racism brought nothing to the story, and it’s so fucking unnecessary). But anyways!!!
I would love to start writing for them, and creating new fics!!! I’d gladly take requests, just to start feeling more comfortable and confident, but I need to know yall would like something like that? Just let me know? Please?

Working in news involves seeing the language evolve from
"the Israel-Hamas war, started on Oct 7 when Hamas attacked and killed 1200 Israelis" to "the Israel-Hamas war, started on Oct 7 when Hamas attacked and killed 1200 Israelis, and has resulted in 34,000 Palestinian deaths"
and today there is a story that says the protesters are against "the Israeli violence in Gaza." It's a small story, focused on protests, not the war itself, but I still said "holy shit" out loud.
so, don't think that raising awareness isn't anything, because hot damn the media Overton window is being dragged over on this.

In college, I had one professor who had chihuahuas on her shirts, chihuahua pins, etc. At one point she mentioned that she had 16 of them. I told this to my brother, who had taken other classes with her (and whose "He's NOT my boyfriend" had TA'd for her or something and been to her house) and he said "Ohh, that means some of them have died. :( " Normal ~14 chihuahuas ago. (When she gave me a mercy C-, I got her a day planner with chihuahuas on it and a deliberately-vague thank you note. She emailed with effusive thanks and pretty much confirmed in writing that she'd passed me out of pity. She was an older lady with some kind of painful nerve damage in her hand and she had run out of fucks a loooong time ago.)
i saw a man at work the other day wearing a shirt that said "i was normal 2 pomeranians ago" with pictures of his pomeranians on it. important to note he had his pomeranians in his cart
#addie talks#my brother has always been like this#tw animal death#You could do a lot worse in life than to become a lady with 18+ chihuahuas and no fucks#I saw her in the grocery store a decade later and with a chihuahua mix of my own and I told her I understood

Im…alive, again im sorry ive been away.
To condense everything:
I had to move back home and finding housing is hard and I have been struggling, I am sorry that I haven’t been present or writing. For those of you who have stuck by me, thank you for your unrelenting patience. For those who have not, I completely understand.
