I love people talking about Laudna and Bells Hells like, "um they're just enabling the addict." Should they check her into rehab? Should they take some time off from trying to prevent the immediately incoming apocalypse to find her a good 12 step program?
#critical role#laudna#im joking#evidence of 12 step programs being effective treatment for drug addiction is dubious#but i love the audacity of the opinion that stories should be less complicated and interesting#also i know they already did take a break from apocalypse averting for group therapy#but im willing to bet nobody at the table wants to do that every time theres an incident

currently have a lot of feelings abt house’s relapse in s7,, may have to write it out at some point. he was clean two years at that point (it was either foreman or chase who gave this number). the way a lot of them reacted, they expected it—not surprised. like they expected his sobriety to fail.
yes, relapse is often a part of recovery. but it doesn’t always have to be. the fact that the most standout conversation about it was from wilson to cuddy is wild to me. i’m not a huddy hater—I feel they would’ve eventually broken up but stayed friends if it happened in earlier seasons, because cuddy does care for house. but in s7, she wanted him to be someone he wasn’t. wilson accepted him as who he was.
house literally internalizes all of his issues. he’s terrified when cuddy leaves him. especially when he keeps saying no, and asks cuddy “don't. please don't,”. (also shout out to hugh laurie for his incredible acting in that scene because I cry every time!) and then he ends up back on vicodin and tries to push everyone away again. but think about that guilt. he knew his addiction hurt the people he loved—that’s why he tried to hide it from cuddy. that’s why he begged her not to leave, that it was a one-time thing. he knows it impacts more than just him. so even if he’s back in those harmful habits? I assure you that he is being eaten alive by guilt.
two years clean. he would’ve had so many moments where he likely came close to relapsing, or, he just had intrusive thoughts about it. he pushed through. and then he relapsed, and his world collapses, and he can only blame himself. and he hates himself for it. if he felt confident in his growth for two years and then lost it all, he probably lost sight of any hope for true recovery. for real happiness. for having people by his side in support.
and, in a way, house cannot see the people who care because he’s blinded by his own emotion. wilson went to that hotel to check on him. wilson went to cuddy. wilson was angry on house’s behalf, because he knows how hard it is for house to have gotten through those two years, and to have lost it. he knows how much house likely hates himself for it, even if the guy is acting all snappish and nonchalant about it all. wilson understood.
I want to write out all of my thoughts on it but this is the very basics so rahhhhh take this for now. I dunno if any of it makes sense but <3
#lucas rants#house md#gregory house#james wilson#dr wilson#dr house#hilson#ish?#idk I feel very heavily for house when it comes to his addiction and mental health#it makes him a horrible person at times#and his actions can’t be excused just bc he’s battling an addiction#but god#he acts out over and over out of fear#and pushes and pushes because he wants people to leave for a reason that isn’t genuinely about his feelings#he’s an asshole so people hate him for that#but if cuddy left because of how house really felt#that would be a knife to the heart#I also just have a lot of thoughts on relapse and recovery#tmi ig but tomorrow (1/28/24) will be six months from when I graduated the program I was in#I was in a long-term residential treatment center/rehab for three months#so I feel very heavily for house and the feelings he may have surrounding relapse#and I know my sixth months tomorrow is not as long as two years but#i still get intrusive thoughts and the guilt tears me alive#because I’m supposed to be Better#and I feel like house would have that feeling too#if he relapsed after two years then maybe he feels he really is broken#he can’t be ‘fixed’#(wilson would remind him that’s stupid- people can’t be ‘fixed’)#house md season 7#sorry for brainrot

Imagine sin as a skin disease that covered the bodies of every man, woman, and child, and that with the extent of our sins, the sicker we would be. Would we need to be quarantined? Would we need medicine or surgery? Would our appearance scare people away? Would we be total outcasts that were separated from our friends and family? That’s the thing with sin though. It can’t be seen or cured by man.…

The deep disinterest in my life from everybody in the family besides my mother does sometimes feel slightly crushing like I gotta let it go but I really thought all the time I spent helping my siblings with their babies and their dogs and their houses would at least result in them feeling some kind of similar investment in my life when the time came. My bad that ones on me
#I know jealousy is bad but I feel insane when my brother electricians apprenticeship he only got because of nepotism is treated with#significantly more interest and respect than anything I did at nasa or getting a phd spot at a top program with a fellowship#like am i missing something#KIDDING I know it’s because my family expected me to be good at things without help because they had to focus on my brothers addiction#so they aren’t impressed with anything I do because they just assumed I would do it. like guys this was actually incredibly hard to do#curious how it’s been five years since my brother went for treatment but we can’t shake the dynamic#as always it’s actually fine I’m just frustrated

✨ I’ve been a bit MIA on here bc the past month has been a whirlwind. I came to residential treatment for my eating disorder last week on Wednesday and it’s been an experience so far. It’s significantly harder than I thought it was going to be. I honestly felt like bc I’m not near my sickest, I’d come, be here and do fine, and then be in and out quick. Turns out that is not the case.
✨ I have only been here for a few days really, but so far I have gotten to do a few fun therapies including equine therapy! We do that every Thursday and I have this cute little guy Phil for my time here! All the horses here are the sweetest though! They are all rescues and have such tender, loving hearts. I love them!! And then we also have chickens here (they are such sweethearts and follow you around the garden! And they love cuddling!!?) and then goats too! So I love that part of this place!
Everything else about this place is a lot harder.
✨ I brought a few of my fave stuffed animals and I am so glad bc I’m not the only stuffie lover and so everyone has stuffed animals here! And then that journal is from my friend Kelly the day I came here and she wrote the actual kindest letter that made me cry and feel more supported and loved and cared about possibly ever in my life.
✨ I don’t have my phone too often here bc M-F we just have groups and therapies all day. But weekends are free(er) and so that’s been nice.
✨ anyways, I hope you’re all well, and have a good Sunday!

When you take a chemically addictive drug in accordance with medical instruction, which nevertheless turns out to not be good for your long term health and quality of life and you want to stop: Well since it's not killing you right this instant, we're gonna wean you off so you don't go through hell.
When you're chemically addicted to a drug that a medical professional hasn't told you to take and you want to stop: Fuck you. It's illegal to entrust a professional to wean you off. If it's really dangerous we'll give you other meds and maybe have to put you in a coma to stop you seizing to death. If you want to get clean you're going to have to go through concentrated hell first.
