Pen: what's one minor moment your character regrets? A small mistake, but something they "can't erase"?

this one is so hard bc they both are the go big or go home type. none of their fuckups are minor! however, I think for Renzin it’s not telling her sister she loved her before she died, and for Adan it’s not reaching out to his surviving brothers once Radio married Maul.

Marker: what's one thing your character would never tattoo on their body, even if they were paid a million dollars for it?

Renzin would never, ever get a tattoo of any Sith script. Adan did once and immediately their master used it to hurt him. Adan would never get a tattoo representing his birth name (Ghost) because he wants to sever himself from his identity as a clone completely and having a tattoo like that would negate that effort.

I can't be the only person who thinks "Elf-man" is a terrible name, right? Like, I get it Elrond, your family tree is a giant mess and you're like half elf, three-eighths man, and one-eighth demigod, and everyone you know love naming their kids with the same first letters as their own name (thanks for that, Tolkien, I just love trying to keep all those Fi- names in the Silm straight), but maybe you could have broken with tradition and given your boys slightly nicer names? It's not like it's Latin, either, where most people have forgotten what the words actually mean; this is your everyday language here.

At least Elrond and Celebrían wised up by the time Arwen came along, though "Noble Maiden" still isn't very creative. I think Elves just might have something to learn from Mormons in this case.

Anyway, translations for Elrond's family's names and where I got the names for the poll choices after the cut:

Elladan and Elrohir (Elrond's twin sons)

The name Elladan is Sindarin for "Elf-Man" or "Elf-Dúnadan," referring to his dual descent from both Elves and Edain (a name given to those descending from the three houses of Men from Beleriand).[15] It comes from the words el ("elf or star") and adan, singular of Edain.[16] On the other hand, Elrohir means "Elf-knight", but rochir also means "horse-lord".

Elrond (Elrond)

Elrond is a Sindarin name that means "Star-dome" or "Elf of the cave", from el ("Elf" or "star", interchangeably) and rond ("cave, vault").[17][18][19]

Celebrían (Elrond's wife)

The name Celebrían means "Silver queen"[6], from the Sindarin words celeb ("silver") and rían ("queen").[7]

Arwen (Elrond's daughter)

The name Arwen means "Noble maiden", from Sindarin ar(a) ("royal, noble") and wen ("maiden"). Her epessë Undómiel means "Evenstar", from the Quenya Undómë ("evening twilight") and el ("star").

Elros (Elrond's twin brother who chose to be mortal and founded Middle-earth Atlantis and was, for the record, much better at naming children than his brother)

Elros was a Sindarin word that meant "Elf of the spray", from el ("elf" or "star", interchangeably) and ross ("foam, spray").[8][9] The name came from the Quenya word Elerossë.[10]

And while we're all here, epessë:

The epessë or the "after-name" is the third type. The after-name is given later in life, but not necessarily by their kin, as a title of admiration. In some circumstances, the epessë is chosen by the Elf himself or herself. An Elf could be referred to by any of the three, but the epessë typically took preference.

Galadriel is the Sindarin translation of Alatáriel, the latter being the Telerin epessë originally given to her by Celeborn. Galadriel means "Maiden Crowned by a Radiant Garland". The name itself is an epessë: her father-name is Artanis (noble woman) and her mother-name is Nerwen (man-maiden).

The poll choices were created using this Lord of the Rings Elf name generator. I tried to make sure I picked the Sindarin options, in keeping with Elrond's family's clear preference. I primarily used the "meaning" option, but you could also specify "starts with 'el'", "male", and "Sindarin elvish names" to turn up a list of names like Elunaer ("Light blue bridegroom") or Elanorchanar ("Star sun flower brother").

Although the generator has obvious limitations due to the nature of Tolkien's conlangs, it's a lot of fun to play with. Just be careful or you'll next find yourself on the Parf Edhellen (Elvish dictionary) and from there it's just a hop skip and a jump until you're in a discord chat trying to figure out how to properly conjugate "knitting" or something.

Finally, just because I have always loved this paragraph, a quote from Bigger Things by Blossomwitch on Ao3:

Most people had trouble telling the twin sons of Lord Elrond apart. Gimli did not share this problem. True, they were very similar physically, but to Gimli the difference was plain. The one hanging all over Legolas like the Mirkwood Prince somehow belonged to him was Elladan; the one with enough sense to keep his paws off other people's elves was Elrohir. Simple enough.

𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕙𝕠𝕝𝕥 𝕗𝕒𝕞𝕚𝕝𝕪

So I got this story stuck in my head, a little spinoff about Faelern going home to Chestnut Ridge for the first time in 20 years due to his father being sick. It would follow his homecoming and explore relationships within his family and get into why he was away for so long. I don't know if I'll ever get time to flesh this out in game but I got inspired and made his whole family.

I had fun doing the family reunion challenge a while back so I did another one. Check out under the cut if you're interested in who's who and a little more about our ever-gloomy Faelern.

Faelern Adan 'the prodigal son' - Leaving home at a young age due to strained familial relationships, Faelern spent most of his adulthood immersed in his studies, obtaining a doctorate in Anthropology and becoming the youngest tenured professor in his department at the University of Britechester. As touched a tiny bit in A Devil Between Us, Faelern spent several years happily married to Laelia, who was tragically murdered during a home invasion 12 years prior. Evidently this devastated Faelern and he hasn't been the same since. This also may be a contributing factor to his intense and chaotic relationship with walking disaster Ms. Aida Fairbairn several years later. Faelern is the third of his father's children.

Sicheii Holt 'the patriarch' - While much calmer in his old age, the eldest member of the Holt family was once a notorious womanizer, creating an extremely tense relationship with his now-deceased wife and mother of Faelern's siblings. This only increased when it was discovered that one of his affairs resulted in a child (uh oh). Exponentially so when said illegitimate child was sent to live with Sicheii and his family after the sudden death of his mother at the age of five. While Sicheii was a generally a good father, his transgressions definitely impacted the family, creating complicated relationships all around (hurrah). At the beginning of the spinoff, he would be severely ill, resulting in Faelern's homecoming.

Atsa Holt 'the golden child' - Atsa, the eldest of Sicheii's children, adored his father from the time he was born. And Sicheii adored his son, spending most of their time hunting and fishing together. Everything changed when Atsa was eight, when younger half-brother Faelern came to live with the family and ruined his idyllic childhood. Atsa blamed his brother for his parents' fighting and shattering the vision he had of his father. Instead of focusing his anger on Sicheii, Atsa turned his resentment towards his half-brother, letting him know he was an enemy and would never belong. As a result, the boys were never close and fought frequently. As an adult, Atsa continues to carry a major chip on his shoulder and does not acknowledge his brother as kin. He is furious that Faelern had the audacity to show his face in Chestnut Ridge. 

Emmaline Holt 'the gossip queen' - Emmaline is Atsa's wife. Much more outgoing and cheerful than her husband, she's often the organizer of family gatherings and parties (she's always knows all the good gossip). Having never met her newly-returned brother-in-law, Em cannot believe that Atsa would treat him so poorly after being away for so long. Between me and you, Atsa will be sleeping on the sofa for a while. 

Jacy Holt 'the wild child' - Atsa's and Emmaline's 9-yo daughter. Twin sister to Mato and the loud one of the two. You'll usually find her annoying her father or on the playground with her friends. 

Mato Holt 'the bookworm' - The quiet, bookish twin and Atsa's constant reminder of his half-brother. The kid is exactly like his uncle Faelern in his interests and demeanor, much to his father's dismay. Mato would much rather be reading in his room than socializing. 

Tallulah Holt 'the dutiful daughter' - Tallulah is the eldest sister, a no-nonsense, tough as nails matriarch with one son of her own. While not particularly close to her half-brother as children, she feels a deep sense of duty to her family and is angered that Faelern would turn his back on them for so long. She has her hands full at the moment, trying to parent the rebellious and surly teenaged Kai as a single parent all while managing her 17 mlm businesses. 

Kai Holt 'the rebellious teen' - Kai is going through a major rebellious phase. The 16 year old has discovered hair bleach, Nirvana and his mother Tallulah at her wits end with him. 

Tahoma Holt 'the jokester' - The running joke in the family is that youngest brother was named after his father's beloved pickup truck (true). Tay is loud, boisterous and the family goofball. A contractor by day, he spends his nights at open mics across the region workshopping his comedy routines, with big dreams of becoming a comedy writer. Unlike the elder siblings, Tay doesn't remember life without his half-brother, and is actually happy to see him again.

Doli Holt 'the baby sister' - Doli is the youngest Holt child by many years. Currently working as a receptionist, Doli has dreams of going to university in the city, just like her older brother, whom she hasn't seen since she was a kid. Having been born after Faelern arrived in the family, Doli only has good memories of her brother. 

Auntie Deborah and Uncle Des Holt 'the elders' - Auntie Deborah and Uncle Des are known as well-respected healers in the community and stable and a positive influence on all the kids. That said, now that they're all adults Des won't stop trying to push his homegrown weed on his nieces and nephews. Tahoma says it tastes like burning hair.

More Oc's! This time the antiheros!

Starting with Acreaous, he is the new prince. He is 19, and actually has 3 abilities instead of just one which is very rare. The right side of his face is very scarred and he is blind in his right eye. He usually tries to cover the scars with his hair. He is a Weatherman, Reader, and a Speaker. I don't want to reveal too much about him yet but he takes on a major antagonist role at the beginning.

Hana and Adan are twins. They are both 19 and have fire abilities but Adan also has water abilities he's still learning. They lead a band of thieves that go around and sell or keep things they find. Their father helped Acreaous's father lead the new revolution but was killed by the King. Because of this, Kya is desperately trying to convince them to join her in the second revolution but they both keep refusing. Hana is the main leader of the group. Adan is very good with navigation and planning. They start out as antagonists by accidentally burning down Kandid, Lyke, and Mayn's ship. But later on they meet again and decide to help out main characters.

This is extra but I love Hana, Adan, and Kya's dynamic. It's just Hana and Adan doing their own thing and then Kya finds them and is like

He is confident and quick on his feet,just a general cool person with a striking appearance he wants all to notice.

Bio - One of two born under the blissful light of the moon. A prodigy of many things,he chooses to express his artistic side with his art and musical writing skills. Has mastered the way of using music & technology to help him further show the world what he is capable of. Rarely speaks but his actions say so much when you take time to understand him. Nimble on his feet and does everything from dancing to just sitting down with a style all his own. Can play alot of instruments but the piano and electronic keyboard is where he really shines from being able to play classics or new music so beautifully on the piano to making dance mixes of songs on the keyboard.

Aruna's UM often leaves him too weak to do things on his own. Adan,Kurai,and Pankraz are quick to notice and react to this by immediately helping him with no questions asked. Tends to get grumpy about this.

Will make you regret ever thinking he is “cute” that's just not his vibe.

His twin sister Alaya is an oc that is being made by a friend so will add more about sibling lore,etc when they are finished.

spent all morning pondering this one.. she's got a unique sound and TBH i still don't have as much musical knowledge as i'd like to... Fingon looks up from where he had been studying his fingers. After everything has been said and done, and the initial shock had ebbed following the lucidity afforded by the sobering tea, here they sit, in his chambers, by the balcony. This particular balcony faced away from the grand courtyard and instead looked out at the vegetable garden he had tended himself for years now, during his quiet idyllic days of freedom. A few white goats roamed around nearby, nibbling on grass.

He looks up at Aegnor. Aegnor, standing before him, panic in his eyes and mingled with worry and concern. Through their freshly-minted bond, he feels those emotions, and perhaps they help echo his own, though his own set of emotions are well-controlled in comparison. But they share common ones: panic, concern -- perhaps a tinge of fear.

For his part, Fingon-- how is he supposed to explain this? That right after the feast honoring Hador Lórindol, he gets into this kind of unprecedented trouble? There was not even a feast for betrothal first. No formal proposal. No ceremony expected of him as the High Prince of the Noldor. Worse, this was a match that the Valar themselves forbade in Aman, even though they are in Beleriand and the cultures of the Sindar and Avari proved otherwise.

How is he supposed to even begin to explain to his father the High King what exactly happened, between him and Aegnor?

"Did you wed me because you were threatened by Hador?" Fingon asks, his voice soft, but he could have brandished a sword at Aegnor, for the way the bigger, taller elf flinches and a frisson of hurt shoots through their bond.

"Finno, that's not--" Egg cries out, sinking into his knees and grasping his hands. "This-- I love you, Finno. I always have! I realized this not long ago-- I admit-- I'm not the best with feelings, or how to truly, properly articulate them-- and I don't deny that I've been flip-flopping around like grounded fish, so many years, even in Valinor--!"

"Yes," Fingon says, not pulling his hands away. "Even in Valinor. You ran to me after every heart break, every failure. Was your heart break with Andreth so great, you had to do this to me? Was your fear of Hador Lórindol so insurmountable? You imagine a mere adan could threaten you?"

Hurt flares across the bond. Aegnor's tears spill over from his eyes and he pulls back, dropping his hands. Fingon clenches them into twin fists, though his gaze never left Aegnor's face.

"There are consequences, Aegnor," he continues. "We are princes of the Noldor. There were a great many expectations for us, regarding these things, and we have flouted them all. You can't run from these consequences now. We face them, or..."

Or what?

"What makes you think I wouldn't?" Aegnor says, and through their bond Fingon feels the beginnings of the other's anger.

"How you treated me over the years of our friendship speaks otherwise," says Fingon. "You will excuse my small doubts. You have no choice but to do so."

The door opens. Fingon's chamberlain, Vorosanya, lets himself in. The ellon bows to them, concern in his gray eyes.

3:30 AM and suddenly it struck me ... okay. The thing about my Aranor (f!Aragorn/f!Faramir) fics is that the 'verse genderbends all Númenórean throwback types in LOTR (e.g. Aragorn, Denethor, Faramir, Imrahil), or characters I consider likely to be that type (Ivriniel, Halbarad).

But:

As I've pointed out before (a few times >_>), Elrond's sons in particular are not classed with Elves in the text—they look like Elves, but they're excluded from generalizations about Elves despite being present (they can't see as far as Legolas does, they fear the Dead, and even the celebratory address includes them as "sons of Elrond" rather than as Elves). They're often associated with the Northern Dúnedain. Their names reference both their Elvish and Mannish heritage according to Tolkien, both names basically meaning Elf+Man, but with rohir more specifically translated as "horse-lord" or "knight" in Númenórean Sindarin, and the adan in Elladan translated as "Númenórean" (rather than simply human or one of the Edain).

Their Númenóreanness can only come through Elrond, of course. And Elrond himself is described as both Elf and Man, and more specifically, the eldest of Aragorn's people.

So while the fic premise was only considering mortal Númenórean types, hmmmm.

Arguably Elrond is not a throwback, he's just the real deal, and I think I do prefer male Elrond for this fic—but Elladan and Elrohir, born after the Downfall ...? Arguably Arwen could be changed as well, but textually she's very associated with Elves in a way her brothers aren't, and I definitely envisioned Aranor as firmly lesbian. And I kind of like the idea that it's just the twins who change and all three are daughters, and the sharp distinction between the twins and Arwen in roles and motivations is much less gendered.

That whole thing about few mortals ever seeing Arwen vs the twins riding with the Dúnedain, say, could be really interesting if the twins are also daughters but still warriors. And there's also Elrond's insistence on acknowledging/raising tiny Aranor as the future chieftain of the northern Dúnedain despite her existence breaking the father-to-son line of the heirs of Isildur for the first time in thousands of years, which has always been a particularly heartwarming part of the Aranor backstory to me (maybe only me, but whatever). Like, the Elrond who rolled with his firstborn daughters becoming vengeful warriors could work pretty neatly with the Elrond who backs Aranor and helps raise her with the tools she's going to need.

Yeah, I think I'm going to go with it. Now for counterpart names that sound natural in Sindarin...

anyway ft Barriss being 5’5” next to two 6’ ppl (a Twi’lek and a clone). Who are they? the Sith Twins. Why do they have Barriss? They want her to be a Sith. She wants them to be Jedi. They all want Plagueis’s ghost to stop locking them out of the Sith castle they live in. Why does Barriss live with them? They rescued her from Republic prison and offered to help her right the wrongs of the Republic. She went with it because she didn’t want to stay in prison but changed her mind about being a Sith a week in when the clone, Darth Adan, climbed onto the roof and screamed lightning for three hours because he was angry.

Gora's Father and Grandfather declared enemies of the Jedi Order for inquisition of Force sensitive children. Gora's Uncles and their families forcibly removed by Senate. Birth of Yan (102 BBY), Jenza (103 BBY), and Ramil (95 BBY). Yan given to Jedi Order. Lorne dies (~90BBY). Gora dies, suspected foul play. Ramil assumes Count in 45BBY.

32BBY - 22BBY (AOTC):

Dooku leaves the Jedi Order after the death of Qui-Gon (32BBY), killing Yaddle and escaping into political security of Serennian Hegemony. Twins Ramil II and Adan born to Ramil and Kostanza (32BBY). Ramil is killed by Yan (30BBY). Yan ascends as Count Dooku, moving Kostanza and children to Otoh Dooku.

22BBY - 19BBY (ROTS):

Clone Wars begin (22BBY). Financially backed by 5 out of the 8 houses, 3 heirs commit parricide to combine all Great Houses (21BBY). Jenza is killed by Dooku (20BBY). Ventress poisons the twin boys as futile revenge against Dooku- Ramil dies, Adan will remain sickly for the rest of his life (20BBY). Yan dies by Anakin (19BBY). 

19BBY - 0ABY:

Serennian Cleansing occurs, with Sidious killing every Head of House that supported the Separatists - Adan is allowed to remain until he bears a capable son (18BBY). Palpatine marries Adan, only 13, to Maite, an empirical pawn (17BBY). Gora II born (13BBY) to a 19 year old Adan and a 23 year old Maite. Maite becomes Regent after assassination of Adan on Alderaan (9BBY). Maite suggests the site of Endor as the Death Star Shield base (7BBY). Gora II goes to Alderaan to find out about his fathers death (3BBY). Falls into the rebellion and is manipulated by many members to attempt to kill his mother - refuses but agrees to join the rebellion (2BBY).

After Yavin, the concentration of Empire orientated great houses makes it impossible for Gora II to return to Serenno (1ABY). Second Serennian Cleansing occurs with assassinations of all Empire supporting Great House leaders by heirs - including Maite by Gora II. Gora II ascends at 16 (3 ABY).

If Radagon is the descendant of the Fire Monks,then wouldn't that mean he isn't Marika's alter ego

I thought he and Marika are two of one?

Yep! But, that doesn't mean they have the same origin.

In Elden Ring, there's a concept presented that two people born in different regions of the world can share one soul. This is illustrated in the relationship between the "twins" known as D, Darian and Devin. While they're referred to as brothers, their armor set describes that they've never actually met nor spoken, being two bodies with two minds, united by their shared soul. Because of this, they can "communicate" across any distance, or are at least aware of each other's existence.

Likewise, during Marika's marriage to Godfrey, Radagon had married Rennala after his failure to defeat her in conquest. When he joined Marika at the capital, Marika spoke:

"My lord Radagon, leal hound of the Golden Order. Thou art yet to become a god. Thou art yet to become me. Let us be shattered together, me and mine other self."

When Goldmask discovers that "Marika is Radagon," he cogitates further, concluding that the imbalance of the Golden Order is a result of Radagon and Marika's conflicting ideals, joined together as one highly indecisive god.

As for Radagon's heritage, it's worth noting the similarity in his naming convention to Adan and Amon, as well as the fact that Fire Monks all possess red hair and beards (besides the Black Flame Monks). Radagon's thorn motif relates to sin and fire, something I think he tries deeply to suppress, coveting the Erdtree and longing to shed his past.
