Crazy how Shrek still remains one of the most subversive mainstream takes we have on fairytales
#in that the mainstream treatment of fairytales is often like. shallowly subversive imo#‘the princess rescues herself’ okay cool. have you got anything in addition to this??#tunes titters#I think there’s something to be said about how between the two of them only shrek is allowed to be fat (in that Fiona’s ogre form isn’t#actually ugly. she’s just not able to fit within the wider world’s conception of beauty standards)#but tbh for a film debuting in 2001 it still holds up quite well
