A good friend of mine has been trying to convince me that Daenerys of Dorne and Daemon Blackfyre were clearly in love and wanted to get married (which is why he rebelled (years after her marriage)) and I just don't see it.

What do you think of the relationship between Daenerys and Daemon? Or, what do you think their relationship was like? Friendly? In love?

Because I am genuinely curious if I misread/didn't read this section🫣

So, beginning first about Daemon and Daenaerys the sources do tell us that they loved each other, though they are more detailed about his feelings for her than her feelings for him. Importantly, while it was said that Daemon rebelled because Daenerys was denied to him (by "evil" Daeron II 🙄) I am a bit unsure of how that happened. You see, Daemon had already been married for three years to Rohanne of Tyrosh when Daenerys actually married Maron Martell - i.e., Daemon married Rohanne in 184 AC when he was 14, a marriage arranged by Aegon IV, and Daenerys married Maron in 187 at 16.

The marriage between Daenerys and Maron was also arranged in 185 AC, so actually while Daemon was already married.

Furthermore, in 184 AC when Daemon Blackfyre married, Daenerys was actually only 12 to Daemon's 14.

While I do think it is entirely possible given how handsome and gifted Daemon was that Daenerys might have feelings for him, and him for her, I have some doubts as to how deep they ran, and how far their relationship actually got. Yes, it was possible that maybe they continued to foster deep feelings for each other, and that even married to Rohanne, Daemon still loved Daenerys and maybe the two were lovers. It does not explain however how Daemon would blame Daeron II for denying him Daenerys when... he was already married and such a marriage had been arranged not by Daeron II but by Aegon IV.

Further, let's compare them to other couples who were in love but apart because of their circumstances and not their will.

We have Daemon and Rhaenyra of course and by several accounts, he wanted to marry her and she petitioned her father to let her marry Daemon (one step ahead of Daenerys as far as we are told) - given what happened between them afterwards and their story this was clearly truth. Like Daemon B, Daemon was married at this time BUT unlike Daemon B, Daemon, our Rogue Prince, asked Viserys to set his marriage aside, something he had asked prior as well. Daemon B never once asked for his marriage to Rohanne to be set aside. Unlike Daemon B's marriage, Daemon's marriage was a failure and his discontent was well reported. Daemon B on the other hand seemed fairly happy with Rohanne, or at least the marriage was definitely fruitful since in the same year he married, his firstborn son Aegon was born (along with his twin Aemon).

Now, we do know that Aegon IV promised Daemon B he could have more than one wife, however, Daemon B for all his ambitions does not strike me as naive enough to believe that and to think that Daeron II would have their father's lack of senses and agree to this. Moreover, Daenerys herself would likely not be too happy over this arrangement.

It is very important to mention that when Jaehaerys struck a deal with the Faith to keep incest he had to relinquish polygamy - which the Faith had more issues with - and all Targaryens since were in monogamous marriages offering no complain. I don't think Daemon B - again for all of his ambitions - would expect or think reasonable that Daeron II would go to war with the Faith to have Daenerys become his second wife. Maybe at 14 Aegon's lie was enough to convince him, but as he grew older it would not strike me as believable that Daemon would continue to believe this and blame Daeron II for it.

Also worthy of note is the fact that Rhaenyra was forced to marry Laenor against her will - while Daemon was away and exiled and could do nothing to prevent it under penalty of death. Nothing of the sort is said about Daenerys, and no record exists of her having to be forced by Daeron II to marry Maron - Daemon B was at her wedding and he did nothing nor showed any sign of distress. Rhaenyra's marriage to Laenor was also a failure and at this time she had an affair with Harwin - with Daemon away. Daenerys's marriage with Maron on the other hand seemed like a success and one of genuine love, at least of Maron to her.

Let's look at yet another Targaryen couple who were kept apart, Naerys and Aemon. During her bedding to Aegon, Naerys was said to have wept, and Aemon quarrelled with Aegon during the feast. Both showed signs of their displeasure, though we could argue if this was because of genuine passionate love for each other, or just sibling love and the shared knowledge of what a pig their brother was and how miserable he was about to make Naerys. Regardless of this, and yes I do think their relationship might have been exaggerated by the singers (and Aegon IV) to tarnish Naerys's reputation, both showed signs of displeasure when Naerys married someone else. With Daemon B and Daenerys, however, we have none of that. Only thing we know of Daemon B during his half-sister's wedding was that he was defeated by Baelor Targaryen, Daeron II's eldest son. Also, Naerys's marriage was miserable, which again is not true of Daenerys's marriage or Daemon B's marriage.

Then we have what you very well point out, the time skip between Daenerys getting married and Daemon B starting his rebellion - a full eight years. And I am not buying it at all at this point.

Am I supposed to believe that Daemon B was so distraught that he attended Naerys's marriage, did nothing, and a full eight years after remembered she was the love of his life?! Oh hi Matt!

A last point I wish to make about this is Daenerys's reaction to Daemon B's death, better yet the lack of reaction which speaks volumes. Against this we can go back to Daemon and Rhaenyra, especially Rhaenyra who never forget Daemon, got close to him again when he returned to Westeros despite him being married to another woman, and as soon as Laena dropped dead and Laenor was murdered (not by Daemon's orders *wink wink* Daemon Jesus Christ Targaryen would never do such a thing to a friend - who was more an associate but let me keep my fanfiction *wink wink*) she immediately got back with him. Under suspicions of him having betrayed her, she was still willing to forgive him and wanted him back and according to "Rise of the Dragon" she went as far as to blame Lord Mooton by Daemon's death - though how accurate this is we can debate since that was not directly written by George and there's no mention in Fire and Blood that she ever learned what happened to Daemon.

Now, am I denying at some point Daenerys and Daemon B had feelings for each other? Not at all. I think it is entirely possible given how close in age the two were and the fact that they were young and attractive people who lived together. But I do think the singers like to make it more than what it was like they do with so much more.

Why?

Well because Daemon B has a sort of hero aura about him that the singers liked and fed. He was someone with every quality of a king, but who had been born a bastard. He was beloved by the smallfolk, of the nobles as well, and much easier to love than someone like Daeron II who although was a good ruler and administrator was not as handsome, and did not possess the military qualities of a warrior - we know how the singers' panties dropped for knights - lacked the charisma as well. So it's easy to paint Daemon B in this bright light and to rather make this about love than about what it actually was: ambition.

It's funny that in a sense he was much more ambitious than our original Daemon, that he actually did pick up arms against his brother and started a war, and that the singers call him "in love" and only see Daemon as ambitious refusing to actually talk of love between Rhaenyra and himself. But then again Daemon was not very popular at court, and Rhaenyra, unlike Daenerys, was not a meek woman just living her traditional life. While she was very feminine she was given a very male role - maybe it's even worse that she was so feminine - so she does not make the stuff of a love story.

Just something to ponder about.

Now all of this being said and if the people want to believe it was love, there are much worse ideas out there and being spread by this fandom. If they want to ship two hot dragon people, all the power to them, but I personally don't because from everything written, it's not what that's about.

I would say that I hope Fire & Blood vol. 2 answers these questions but thinking that we are ever getting that book would make as delusional as people writing metas where Daemon gave two wet sh:ts about Harwin ☺️

my ps4 controller has shat the bed. While I don't really play any games on my ps4 anymore, it's still great for watching movies.

But finding a new controller or even a refurbished controller for this thing has been so difficult. I try not to shop on Amazon unless I have to (c'mon, we all know why) but even the small gaming shops in my city don't really have anything.

Maybe it's just cheaper for me to buy a bluray and dvd player??

Anyway, more fun life updates under the cut!

We'll start with my health. It's been a while since I've posted about it. In that post I made in April, I made a joke about "probably have to wait until 200 days of bleeding until I actually see a specialist."

It literally did take that long. I was bleeding from late January (around the 19th-22nd area,I'd have to go check my calendar but im typing this in bed and lazy.) until August 9th. There were two very brief breaks of nothing in April and June, but the grand total of days I bled and bled heavily was roughly 180 days. Crazy right? and I met MANY people with uterus' in this time who have had it worse.

I got to go to a specialist on August 6th and then when they tried to do an examination, they couldn't. There's a number of reasons why what happened happened but to put a long story short- my hormones are insane and likely not distributed evenly around my junk, so insertion causes immense pain and they just couldn't do a thing without putting me under anesthesia. Which they did! on August 9th I had a procedure to give me a biopsy, a polypectomy, and then there was one other thing they did -I believe it may have been called a DNC but honestly, they told me everything that happened while I was still under the affects of anesthetic so I have no idea the exact term or how the process goes- but since August 9th, I haven't had heavy bleeding. There's been some minute bleeding that all my recovery paperwork says its normal, but god. The menstrual cramps. The polyps forming and bursting. It's been painful.

The exact diagnosis of my biopsy and examination happens next Wednesday, and there's a few ways it could go over all, but the thing is I KNOW they're going to push the IUD or some other form of Birth control on me because that's what they did the first time I met and had a consultation with them. and with the way my uterus is and the horror stories I've heard about the pain of them and how they're -at most- 5 years of period relief... I'm saying nope. If I have to do birth control temporarily, I'm going towards the arm implant if it's going to be as effective as an IUD. If not? I'm going down the partial hysterectomy route and I'll try to get referred to an OBGYN that will respect that. But things I also had to do for my health while I was just slowly bleeding out and becoming more anemic by the day:

two iron infusions. On the second one they had to send me to the hospital to get an IV put in and then I had to travel across the city to the clinic I got my iron infusions don't at. Most stressful 2 days I've had to be quite honest. They poked me with different needles 11 times until someone finally got the iv in properly.

One of my ribs shifted just slightly out of place and I had to go to a chiropractor. Now I take stretching way more seriously. Folks. if you're not active, still make sure you stretch and you're hydrated. It's fucked.

Chronic fatigue and uterus cramping. if I wasn't at work or doing necessary chores (litter box, walking the dog, showering, laundry, etc.) I was laying down and doing my best not to take too any pain killers.

24/7 bloating. full disclosure- I 'm Fat. before all of this, I was comfortably between 175 to 185 pounds (and I didn't mind! I was born fat, I've grown up fat, it's not something I've ever cared about.) Carry most of it in my stomach and chest. At 5"1 ish, it makes me look pretty chunky. Imagine blowing up around 20 pounds more. at my worst, I was around 215 pounds. My body HURT. I felt like I was a bubble that could pop. I bought work shorts that fit me perfectly at around 185 pounds and the bloating got so bad, the button for the shorts just popped off while I was at work. It was so embarrassing.

Anddd that's the mega long health update.Right now I'm still recovering from my procedure. I have about a week and a half until I get have a bubble bath again and I do see the OBGYN on Sept 4th to find out just what my options are. Some other misc things to tie the post up into a more positive update:

Blue's reactivity is getting better! We haven't met many new dogs but he's getting so much better at ignoring every dog we pass. We do still have to cross the street, but he's more inclined to look to me than to stare down the other dog so that's always great.

Menma turned 12 and she's still on that vet prescribed diet. It's great for her kidneys but bad for hairballs. We're working on trying to get her interested in some hairball relief stuff but the old lady is picky with her food and sometimes she'll touch it, most days she'll turn her nose to it. And work is. Work. But you know how that all is. Capitalism is a shitty thing and I hope we see something better sooner rather than later.

Of course we got gays, these are Targaryens after all!! I’m gonna make a list of the ones I can think of for the top of my head but it sure isn’t a limited list by any means!!

Saeron I (106-154) was Visenyas third son and married lady Zahna Dayne after 6 years of betrothal, they weren’t compatible anyways but Saeron also was very much in love with Zahnas cousin Ser Aryon (a knight of his mothers Kingsguard). Saeron fell in love quickly and often but he never really had a long term lover.

King Maegor II (103-157) Visenyas first son wasn’t gay, but he had no desire to bed anyone really so by todays standards he would probably be asexual.

Aerion I (114-166) another son of Visenya also practiced a more open love, he had multiple male lovers among them his close friend the legendary adventurer and sells sword Ser Syn Sand and Ser Jory Greyjoy. He also married a multitude of women (two of his nieces) and was a big fan of polygamy.

Baelon II (134-156), Maekar I (134-157) and Daenera IV (35-157) all children of Maegor II were in a polygamous relationship, with Maekar and Daenera getting married since Baelon joined the Kingsguard (their daughter Aegara I is probably Baelons thou).

Daena I (144-241) another daughter of Maegor was known as ‘the maid of Driftmark’ and famously threatened every suitor that came to ask for her hand with the sword and generally preferred to stay in the company of women exclusively. She and her cousin Daena II were inseparable before the latter died in 171 AC (Yes they had the same fucking name I know) and after her passing Daena I never returned to Dragonstone, instead she spend her live on Driftmark riding her beloved dragon Evening and enjoying live with her lady love Marrisa Velaryon.

Daena II (147-171) the daughter of Aenna was a flaming bisexual that wore exclusively black and favored pants. She married her brother Aelyx and while they were very in love she also had a relationship with her cousin Daena I.

Laena II (132-150) the daughter of Rhaenar and Baela (the Baela from the show/books) was another sapphic granddaughter of Visenya, it was common knowledge that she married her uncle Aerion just to be able to enjoy the romantic freedom he could offer her and that she actually never shared the bed with him. She was romantically involved with the wife of her brother instead, Daella II.

Aenera II (159-185) the granddaughter of Aenna was a raging lesbian to the core. In her maiden days she had often laughed in the faces of the lordlings and knights that had approached her and her ladies. Aenera was known for her beauty and the eldest child of her parents so not marrying wasn’t really an option for her, but her true love laid with her cousin princess Aella III.

Aella III (157-178) was the granddaughter of Saeron and had always stood out among her religiously devoted and very well behaved siblings, she had been a quiet and studious girl but she also didn’t care much for marriage and men, she had rather ride dragons with her cousin Aenera all day.

Queen Rhaella IV (185-264) was a great granddaughter of Aenna, she had a rather scandalous love life, after the death of her second husband she supposedly had a long standing relationship with her sworn shield Ser Steffon Waynwood, in her youth however she was often rumored to have lain with women, among them her close companion Alianda Blackwood.

Naerys III (211-245) was a Great Great granddaughter of Aenna, she was a dragon rider and always kept her blond hair short and enjoyed being mistaken for a boy. She may have been in a romantic relationship with a Velaryon cousin of hers.

King Aeralon I (260-295) was a descendant of Visenya (to many greats to put here trust me) he was a big f-ing problem for everyone around him, especially his wife and kids, because his half brother Lord Torrhen Stark left him (Torrhen was his only relationship ever).

King Maelor II (276-317), Aerys I (278-317) and queen Elaera II (279-317) the children of Aeralon were in a polyamorous relationship. While Maelor and Elaera married, Aerys never did and stayed at court with his siblings all his live. Aerys also wasn’t shy to tell everyone who would listen about how much he loved his king and queen.

Daemion I (595-?) the son of Elaena IV was another Targaryen man in love with his brother the king, he however had no interest in women at all, which worked out fine because he was married to Alanna Velaryon who herself had little interest in men and preferred the company of women.

Jaehaerys III (602-?) another son of Elaena was also into men, he joined the kingsguard as a young man and had a live long relationship with his fellow knight Ser Ormond Allyrion, even though their story started out as a fierce rivalry.

Baelor V (609-?) ?? Another son of Elaena IV, he supposedly fell for his wife Beatriz Corbray while he taught she was a man and evidently enjoyed to … switch up positions during their love making (read as: man liked it up the ass), he also flirted with anyone and anything so I’d say it’s safe to assume he would have counted himself bi by todays standards.

Aella VI (609-?) a daughter of Elaena IV and Baelors twin, she was always prone to gushing over her mother female knight Lady Larissa and other lady knights of history, as a girl she had been a romantic through and through yet no boys ever strung her fancy. Instead she found love with her brothers wife, Amanda Wylde, called ‘wild Amy’ (the brother, Aegon was also probably a little gay so he didn’t really mind). Funnily enough her daughter and Amy’s daughter would also fall in love in the future.

Elaena V (629-?) the granddaughter of Queen Elaena (wild Amy’s daughter) was another bisexual girlie, she always flirted a little to much with knights and young lords, but her first love was with her cousin Jenny Arryn, and while both eventually married and happily at that they would always remain very close.

Sadly I don’t have the generations following Elaena all that figured out yet (I’m to busy making up new fun stories about her crazy kids if I’m being honst) so I might just make another post about the great numbers of sapphics and the occasional gay man that are sure to follow!!! So my epilogue document for All Sales Final is lost and i’ve been trying to locate it in vain for well over a week. So far failing in that, I’ve been attempting to remember what was it in and rewrite it. It’s just like 1k words or so but adhd makes life hard sooo that’ll be up when i can xD i really dont like saying i’d do something by a certain time, and i massively dropped the ball on that so i wanted to be accountable hahahah but it’ll be up and then freakin DONE as soon as i can manage :D im gonna feel sooo much stress relief when that happens like trust me we’re all looking forward to it BAHAHHA XD

I’ve also been massively depressed (which took a hot minute to recognize cuz it is NOT the same kind of depression ive felt in the past), and also went through a crisis of not being able to get my increased-dose adhd meds anymore (they’re like $500 a month apparently, and i’m below poverty level for yearly income so the state of california usually takes care of it in total but they wouldn’t authorize my higher dosage, then the generic with a manufacturer’s coupon was still $103 a month, and i had a total meltdown cuz my meds help my brain a LOT and not being able to get it like im ready to die now lololol but THEN after not responding since the 20th of august, my psychiatrist got back to me and got mediCal to authorize my meds soooo im still reeling on that and a lot of other stuff). I’ve sold my plasma a little over a week ago and im waiting for my veins to fully heal before trying again (there were complications they deemed unsafe so they only got a quarter of a liter before they sent me home) and im really hoping there aren’t complications next time I go in, cuz THEN my name goes on a national registry of individuals who can’t donate plasma, and the money is GOOD even if it really hurt for days afterwards, soooo im also stressing about that. The silver lining though is that regardless of the amount they’re able to harvest, I’ll still get the $185, and that’s like half a paycheck for me so im really excited by that :D It’s gotten really busy lately at my job too so I’ve actually got normal part time hours this week, so i’ve been more tired and playing catch-up with everything and its affected my writing time D:<

im just exhausted with life; with the pandemic and the fucking morons prolonging it; with my worst nightmare come true in Roe v. Wade being destroyed; with living in a super toxic, invalidating environment I have to be at the mercy of; with my fuckhead father whose life i dont give a fucking shit about anymore like hooo don’t even get me started; and also recognizing the decades of childhood trauma/abuse i’ve lived with and thought was normal until very recently. I still haven’t made the phone call to find a therapist that specializes in childhood trauma and ptsd (and that also stresses me out like mad crazy cuz i have a LOT of healing that needs to be done but goddamn i dont enjoy finally comprehending the level of abuse and trauma and toxicity in my life like that shit breaks you guys) soooooo i’ve been goin through some stuff recently and still trying to have a good attitude about it xD i definitely cry on the way home from work every day cuz i dont want to have to come back home, but my cats are there and i look forward to petting them every day sooo we keep on with that HAHA

....on the plus, my younger sister and her husband are actively looking to buy their first home with land connected to it, and she said i can come live with them when that happens, sooooo something to maybe look forward to in the next year. We keep making jokes about a commune, but she wants to live totally off-grid, and i know how to grow weed and enough food to supplement a pantry so like... that would actually be so cool if it happened but for now its just another fun thing to dream about while living the nightmare LOL at least im saving money on fun things xD

So here we are

so im starting this to keep me accountable and motivated through my journey. 

but, I would like to explain how I got here. 

Growing up, Ive always been a little chunkier and in 2016, I decided to do full workouts, eat vegan, and it worked. I dropped around 25 pounds and had the perfect body. I was happy, skinny, and 130. 

Then things went down hill, I don't know if it was due to mental health or to birth control, but I ended up gaining like 80 pounds. Which is a lot. I lost track of why I was actually happy. I have been trying to lose this weight for so long and nothing worked. 

This year I decided to really get serious about it since nothing seemed to be working before. I started at 200 in Jan. When I hit 185 in June, I plateaued. I wasn't able to lose anything. I became desperate and I started doing more intense ways to get rid of the weight.

 Its been a month now and I am at 168, 17 pounds down. I feel better but not totally. I am becoming more and more afraid of gaining weight so I came to Tumblr to keep myself in check. I have learned more things about fasting and green teas which make me very confident that I can do this. My realistic goal by the end of the month is to lose 10 pounds and hit 158 or 154 but my dream goal is to hit 150 for this month. 

I am ready to do this. I am motivated. I will use this space to keep me in check and write about my feelings and accomplishments, NO FAILURES because I am manifesting only positive change.

Key Message

Intravenous thrombolysis for acute ischemic stroke can be complicated by intracranial haemorrhage. Early decompressive craniectomy in such patients can be life saving but is associated with high risk of peri operative bleeding. We managed such a patient with decompressive craniectomy within 24hrs of thrombolysis by correcting coagulation with the help of thromboelastograhpy.

Introduction

Acute ischemic stroke is one of the leading causes of death and permanent disability in the world. Intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) with recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA) has been the recommended treatment modality in acute ischemic stroke [1]. but the most dreadful complication of thrombolysis is intracerebral haemorrhage in about 7% cases. The clinicians are faced with difficult decision of how to best treat these patients as there are no evidence based guidelines regarding the management of such complications. The American Heart Association has suggested only empirical therapies to replace clotting factors and platelets to reverse coagulopathy [2]. Decompressive craniectomy (DC) is a life-saving procedure for malignant middle cerebral artery stroke associated with cerebral oedema, enough to cause herniation and death [3]. The decision of decompressive craniectomy following intracerebral haemorrhage after intravenous thrombolysis is not without the risk of peri operative haemorrhage. We report the first case where decompressive surgery was uneventfully performed as a life-saving procedure within 24hours of developing symptomatic intracerebral haemorrhage after intravenous thrombolysis. The timing for decompressive craniectomy was guided by thromboelastography (TEG).

Case report

A 63-year old hypertensive, diabetic man presented with left hemiplegia within 140 minutes of onset. On examination, he was alert, GCS 15, left hemiplegia, right gaze palsy and dysarthria, NIHSS (National Institute of Health Stroke Scale) of 17. Magnetic resonance imaging of the brain revealed infarct in the superior division of right middle cerebral artery (MCA) (Figure 1a). His blood biochemistry was unremarkable (Hb-13.8, Plt-145, PT-12.2, and RBS-174). After written consent, thrombolysis was started at 22:10hrs on 11.1.2015 with rt-PA, 5.8mg as bolus followed by 52.7mg infusion over one hour. At 5:30hrs on 12.1.2015, he had upper gastrointestinal bleed followed by impairment in consciousness and his NIHSS score increased to 28. Immediate repeat CT scan of the brain revealed extensive infarction of MCA with haemorrhage in the infarct, extensive oedema and midline shift with uncal herniation (Figure 1b). As he had been recently thrombolysed, his repeat coagulation profile was performed (Hb-10.4, Plt-160, PT-15.2, APTT-27.8, FDP- 256mg/dL) including thromboelastography which was classical of fibrinolysis. Eight units of cryoprecipitate and four units of fresh frozen plasma were transfused in the next six hours and repeat thromboelastography was normal. Then the decision was to proceed with decompressive craniectomy (15:30hr on 12.1.15). A bone window of 12cm in the antero posterior direction in the fronto parieto temporal region was created and duroplasty was performed. The procedure was uneventful. He did not receive any blood products in the peri operative period. Brain CT scan was again performed on the following day and it showed resolution of midline shift with no new hematoma (Figure 1c). He was managed in the intensive care unit with gradual weaning of sedation and ventilation. He was discharged in the sixth week on tracheotomy and NIHSS score of 12. Three months later he was admitted for cranioplasty (Figure 1d) and tracheostomy closure with Mrs Score of 3 (Figure 2a & 2b).

Discussion

Thrombolysis remains the treatment of choice in acute ischemic stroke but with increased risk of symptomatic intracranial haemorrhage (ICH).The mortality in these patients is reported to be as high as 45% [4]. There are a few case reports in literature that state DC might be beneficial in the context of post IVT in patients with refractory cerebral oedema [5]. But the most important void is the optimal time to perform DC following thrombolysis. To the best of our knowledge there is only one prior case report where decompressive craniectomy was performed for intracranial haemorrhage following unsuccessful IVT after 48 hour of thrombolysis [6]. Here we report the index case where symptomatic intracranial haemorrhage followed thrombolysis, and was managed by DC and hematoma evacuation within 24 hours of IVT. This early life saving surgery was possible only after rapid correction of coagulation profile with the help of thromboelastography. As, a large series is difficult to be conducted in such cases, it is of interest to report small experiences as ours where the clinical dilemma of performing a surgery following thrombolysis with rt-PA was guided by thromboelastography.

Recombinant t-PA is an exogenous stimulator of the fibrinolytic system that enhances local fibrinolysis by converting plasminogen to plasmin. Our concern was the increased risk of peri operative haemorrhage associated with high mortality due to the persistent effect of TPA. With regard to the pharmacokinetics, half-life of rt- PA is <5 min, with clearance rate of 380-570mL/min [7]. Hence, 80% of rt-PA is cleared from the plasma within 10 minutes of administration. Despite short half-life of rt-PA fibrinolytic effects peak at 4hours and can persist up to 24-48hours [7]. The clinical dilemma in such a scenario was to wait for the disappearance of the fibrinolytic effects to avoid peri operative bleeding at the cost of outweighing the benefits of early DC in reducing the raised ICP. The other option was to efficiently detect and correct the coagulation abnormality by transfusing specific blood products to minimize the risk of bleeding. We had the benefit of thromboelastography at our institute to guide.com with the correction of the deranged coagulation profile before proceeding for DC. S Takeuchi et al. retrospectively reviewed 20 patients who underwent DC for malignant hemispheric infarction after IV TPA administration, with another 20 patients undergoing DC without prior IV TPA administration [8]. They observed intracranial bleeding or worsening of pre existing ICH in two patients (10%) in each group, but tPA was not thought to be contributory to the hemorrhagic events because of the long intervals between the IV tPA and DC(185 and 136h, respectively). However, fibrinolytic markers, such as fibrinogen or fibrin degradation products were unfortunately not measured in the above series.

Thrombelastography or TEG measures the physical properties of the clot via a pin suspended in a cup from a torsion wire connected with a mechanical-electrical transducer. TEG is different from other coagulation tests as it provides global information on the dynamics of clot development, stabilization and dissolution [9]. It assesses both thrombosis and fibrinolysis. Its role is established in cardiac and liver transplant surgery and is being increasingly explored to study role of fibrinolysis in early trauma coagulopathy [10]. Although routinely tested coagulation parameters (BT, CT, PTI, and APTT) were also normal in our case but TEG was characteristic of enhanced fibrinolysis. Hence, we transfused cryoprecipitate and fresh frozen plasma after which the TEG was normal, and we could proceed with surgery.

Conclusion

Decompressive hemicraniectomy with hematoma evacuation following thrombolysis represents an aggressive life saving treatment approach, especially for the patients who develop hemorrhagic complications of intravenous thrombolysis. TEG is one modality which can guide the reversal of deranged coagulation parameter so that major surgery can be undertaken with minimal risk. The decision to proceed with major surgical intervention requires a competent multi disciplinary team as well as an open discussion with relatives as DC may preserve both life and functional ability in well selected patients. More research is needed in this field to elucidate the potential for both modalities in appropriate patients.

Day 185: Thursday July 4, 2019 - “Natchez Down The Road”

The Mississippi Road Trip was one of my intentions for the year, and so I had some special enthusiasm running those two lane roads across Louisiana today to get there for this year’s Freedom Ramble. You see, Ive rambled all 50 states the last 8 years, but the short tag in ole Miss always felt a bit like a cheat; of all 50, Id spent the least time in this state.  And so, I knew Id need to get back and really explore it.  Today was the day - after some car-sleep in Jasper, TX, I worked my way away across the Bayou, stopping only for a Po Boy and a couple drive-thru Daquiris before crossing the big river at Natchez.  I was definitely in the south.  The radio was filled with countless christian radio and talk radio stations, including one dedicated to succession this independence day.  I rolled through towns like Leesville, Alexandria, and Ferriday.  When I crossed into Louisiana on some back road two-ly, the sign was in the Confederate Memorial Park.    A different flavor for reflection this 4th of July.

I hadnt planned to stop in Natchez.  Funny how the “towns” that mean a lot to me at the end of the year are often ones that I never planned to visit. Life out on the road - open to whatever comes with years of experience teaching that the blue highway, always provides.  

As I crossed the Mississippi River, wide and proud, I noticed what looked like a hotel up on a bluff on the Mississippi side.  I figured thered be a good picture of the river from up there....which there was.  But once there, I noticed an active outdoor pool, and needing a reset and refresh, I put on my suit and went and enjoyed that with some of the locals. A pretty southern Belle gave me intel to get into town and see the Natchez “under the hill” before skipping town- having figured out that I wasnt actually a guest there, but just a passer-through.  This advice, proved helpful.  After inspecting the Natchez National Monument (an old plantation) and Forks On The Road (a monument to the second biggest slave trade locale in the South where they had the old chains locked in cement in time for all to ponder), I rolled down the rickety road to find the old Saloon under the city.   This is the old town.  I wondered if the Saloon was here when the Union soldiers rolled up here 150 years ago - could have been!  My plan was to get a drink and a quick lunch and run on up the road towards Jackson before dark....  what resulted at this old saloon would see me instead making community, being recruited to a motorcycle club, and watchng this year’s fireworks lifted off from a barge on the river right in front of me.  Could I have really beat that?  Of course not.  Welcome to Mississippi.  I hadnt explored it, and Id barely made it across the river before getting stuck here for a day!  Heres how it happened:

I walked in and found the old southern cowboy bartender and ordered a bourbon on the rocks....asked about the lunch situation, he said “its all in the back, help your self and enjoy” - really?!  Better make it a double bourbon then!  In the back I found pulled pork sandwiches, burnt ends, southern sides, all complimentary.  Really!  This was a bar for regulars.  Today I was one.   I made my way back to the bar after chastising a racist, and made friends with a guy named Stewart who had prepped my food - go figure!  He became my buddy for the next 6 hours.   As I finished my bourbon, served in a styrofoam cup, I asked what it would take to get it in a real glass -  the answer was a commitment that I planned to stick around for awhile.  When I said with a big smile, that I would stay for the fireworks that evening, my old cowboy served me a whole pintful of Makers.  The cost?  $7.  I even kept the glass.   Complimentary BBQ, a pint of whiskey, community, and front-row fireworks?  Mississippi was spoiling me. I was in Ramblers Heaven.

Never planned to stop in Natchez, and instead I spent the whole day here on the 4th of July.  This is how I pledge allegiance.  The spirit of independence - not totally tied to an idea or a place or a plan.  Open roads, open heart, open itinerary, in this great country - the land of the free.  We’re all one under Ole Glory, especially today.  From Michigan, to Arizona, to Mississippi.  I thought that was pretty special - that I found my place today- with good folk, good drink, and good spirit.  We were probably all as different as they could imagine, but it didnt matter, and we didnt talk about it.  Even the Punishers of Louisiana invited me to join up if I ever found myself on two wheels down their way, while I smoked a stogie and listened to them pop off and show off.  Does it get more American than that?   As the fireworks lit off, they blared God’s Country which felt like a totally bad ass soundtrack.  Stewart and I hugged big as I left, and I told the old drunk man that Id see him in another life maybe, and he chuckled and said something that sounded like “if youre lucky” and as I walked up the cobblestones, i bobbed my head in affirmation, that I was, indeed...and wondered about the way the world works like that.

Drove that night up the Natchez Chase Parkway, rolled through Jackson, and continued all the way to Oxford before cashing in.   Got myself North so that I could spend tomorrow working my way back.  Covering miles of new track in this new land.  Wandering for awhile.  The artful therapy of my yellow-stripe-d compadre.

Azul is known to be very quiet, only talking when he legit has things to say. He’s also very blunt and honest, and has a dry sense of humor. He is the type to often take matters into his own hands and act before asking for permission. 

He is a highly protective big brother, and while he tends to act like a dick to his lil bro (who acts like a dick back, it’s a bro thing) he loves Reuben dearly and would literally kill anyone who dared to hurt him.

Despite his apparent grumpy nature, Azul is actually far more patient than one would think initially, as it is really hard to make him angry. He can stand his brother’s mishaps and his familiar’s flirty behavior without batting an eyelid for hours.

Abilities:

Azul is a dark magic mage so he knows a lot about curses and summoning spells, and can perform those as well, not to mention create enchanted objects or poisons. He can also solidify shadows as a weapon. 

He has the ability to put a sleeping spell on people, this one is sort of his trademark as he uses it a LOT, whenever he wants his bro or Lasha to shut up, or if he needs someone to rest due to their injuries.

He can also command Lasha as he pleases, though mainly uses the snake’s skills for intelligence gathering and occasional massages. He doesn’t want to use Lasha in battles too much both because the snake demon might go a bit far, and because he honestly is concerned the dumbass would hurt himself badly. 

Weaknesses:

His tendency to act before asking for permission can sometimes lead into rather bad results, where he meddles into something he shouldn’t have. 

He is terrible at making friends because most find him highly intimidating. He mainly really chats with his brother casually, or his familiar. Overall, he just has the tendency to come off cold and blunt, which might be learned from the way his teacher acted. His habit of not always getting enough sleep and staying up too much is also learned from Lionel, although in his master’s case it was fine, since as a Chesire, he didn’t need as much sleep as Azul does.

He is a skilled mage, but there are always those who are more skilled, such as his teacher, Lionel, and sometimes Azul overestimates his abilities.

Fun Facts

- Azul could be considered Demisexual, as one really needs to gain his trust before he can actually feel attracted to them - something Gwendolyn managed to do. He doesn’t care too much whom he’s romantically involved with, at least when it comes to gender. His current lover just happens to be a woman. 

- Azul is pretty kinky and aggressive lover, which Gwendolyn actually enjoys a lot given how feisty she is.

- He sometimes contacts his wandering teacher trough Astral plane if there is more serious matter to discuss

- Azul’s most precious possession is a ritual knife he got from Lionel (the one he can use to contact him) his teacher, and he is highly possessive over this item due to the incredible emotional value it holds. He will get pissy if anyone touches it without his permission, and might either stab, curse or just punch them, or otherwise make their day miserable. The only two people who are allowed to touch it are Reuben and Lasha.

- His nicknames for Lasha are Lash, hoe, Slutnoodle and dumbass.(Lasha has a habit of flirting a lot, and before Reuben found Athem, Lasha also slept around quite a bit)

- He calls his brother either Ruby or Reubie (or dumbass number two)

- He himself is nicknamed “the Blue Demon” by the common folk because he tends to terrify them a lot. 

- Azul is one of the very few people Empress Gwendolyn trusts to see the horrid scarring on her back from the demon attack century ago. 

- Azul can go on for days without sleep, though usually someone eventually knocks him out when he starts getting ridiculous with it.

- That claw thing on his finger is something he uses to bleed magic essence from things. it is based on Helias’ feathers that have similar ability.

BG story in a nutshell:

Reuben and Azul were orphaned brothers whose home village was destroyed by a rampaging magical fire, which originated from their lunatic of a father trying to enchant Reuben’s elemental powers with a forbidden ritual, and causing the boy’s power to lash out of control. They ended up in Mirthas where they lived up to their late teens, during which time both were trained in their respective magic skills, Azul being trained by Mirthas’ master exorcist Lionel. After Reuben’s mental state got worse due to the nightmares and guilt over what happened back in their home village, Azul and Lionel decided to erase every bit of memory from Reuben’s mind regarding to the incident, portecting his sanity.

During their time in Mirthas, Azul summoned himself a familiar, who freaked Lionel out at first upon realizing he was the same type of demon as the one who’d attacked their Kingdom years ago. However, upon seeing how well Azul connected with the snake, he allowed the boy to keep it. He also managed to develop a bond with the then reclusive Empress of Mirthas, who’d been keeping herself away from public eye due to heavy emotional scarring and shame. Azul’s honest, no nonsense nature helped to ease the troubled Empress’ mind, and she grew fond of the young mage.

Azul ended up in his current Kingdom of Valencia after taking a trip there with his brother and the Empress, who was requested to aid her old friends with something. The two brothers grew fond of the human kingdom and decided to stay, especially after Reuben went and fell in love with their elder prince.

Here’s bits about Lasha

Age: Unknown, but he says he’s at least a couple centuries old

Height: 185 cm

Length (snake form): about 4-5 meters

Demon Type: 

He’s what they call “Arthan” which refers to members of the lost kingdom of Arthanos who ended up succumbing into their own magic power and turning into demons. Another name - the one primarily used - is Silver Night Beasts as often they have an element of their body that appears like the night sky and glimmers silvery with “stars”

Personality: 

He’s highly flirty, physically affectionate and seductive, coming off as somebody highly confident with their looks and not afraid to use that advantage. Most of the time he acts calm and well-mannered, though he is mischievous too, playing tricks on people (harmless; Azul would get pretty angry if he hurt people without permission) and loves being paid attention to. 

That being said, he genuinely cares for his Master and gets highly testy if someone insults Azul or his brother Reuben. As a snake, he can act almost cutesy and silly. 

When it comes to his master brother’s Djinn - whom he knows personally from the past - Lasha’s behavior can change drastically and reminds more of how he used to be as human; loud, aggressive, blunt and sarcastic. Athem just seems to know exactly how to push his buttons.

The same time it’s pretty obvious to everyone around them that Lasha still loves him and his blunter attitude is born more out of absolute trust towards Athem and lack of need to control himself and portray himself in a certain manner. basically, he acts a bit more natural with Athem.

He can also be extremely childish and playful around his childhood friend/boyfriend in a manner that resembles what he usually does only in his snake form. 

Abilities:

He is IMMENSELY strong physically, able to even damage the most powerful creature types of their world like Nephilins (Gwendolyn and Helias) or White Tigers (Rayna) He can rip humans to shreds with ease, and his claws in human form are so sharp he can cut trough metals and thick rock. 

He has four forms he can shift in between; a full human form with legs, a half-human, half-snake naga form with two variations; a “friendly” one where his human upper body looks like how he normally looks in human form, and a “demonic” look where his face turns more demonic with a snake-like jaw, no eyebrows and his hair turns inverted with colors. This form is also MUCH larger than normal, easily towering over people with being near three meters tall (not including the tail part, simply the human body) Last form is the tiny snake which is weakest, but he prefers it outside battles (or making out) as it conserves energy.

Lasha, like other demons of his kindred, has a curse he can inflict upon others; his is called “Euphoria” where he can inject or blow powerful poison on people that drives them to extreme bloodlust, or uncontrollable mad cackles that won’t stop, or other extreme types of hormonal rush or so, to the point they eventually die from too much stress put upon your body. 

Lasha can traverse trough shadows like most demons and turn invisible, and see into people’s dreams. He also has a mental link with his master, able to communicate with him wordlessly. 

He’s an excellent dancer as well and gives reeeally good massages.

Weaknesses:

Being a bound demon, he is not as powerful as he would be when freed. Like majority of dark beings, light magic is pretty effective against him.

Lasha has a demon-type specific weakness where someone using his original name from his time as a human can basically gain complete control over him, making him lose his autonomy entirely, both body and mind if the name-wielder wishes so. The only being able to override this enslavement is his Deity Belias as he always knows the human identity of his demons. Lucky for Lasha, finding out ones original name isn’t easy.

Unluckily, there is a person in his current life that knows it, though he would never use it against him voluntarily, as he loves Lasha. (Athem)

In his snake form, he is pretty vulnerable and can get badly hurt from just stepping on him. 

His past has left him with traumas, and at times he might wake up in a fit of anxiety where he is unable to speak, nor change his form from whatever it is (snake or humanoid) even if he wanted to. 

Fun facts:

- Lasha is a lil intimidated by huge ass tall people, because Mirthas’ Kingdom Bear shape-shifter guardian Cain accidentally stepped on him once. it hurt, a lot.

- He has a habit of nuzzling Azul’s hair as a form of innocent affection; it’s  a habit he developed during their first year of knowing each other.

- Lasha’s favorite people to flirt with for shits and giggles are Azul and Gwendolyn. His flirting style is very different then though, when compared to the person he actually loves; Lasha can be very well spoken and charming when flirting with peeps he’s not serious about, but with Athem he can be absolutely childish.

- His curse bases on what he felt when he first transformed into a demon; in Lasha’s case he was in the middle of a bloody battle and was enjoying it to a disturbing degree.

- Ironically, he’s actually calmer now as a demon than he was as a human, according to Athem who knew him when he was human

- Lasha’s favorite napping spot in snake form is his master’s shoulders. In human form he sleeps on Azul’s bed as it’s often unoccupied anyway due to Azul’s night-owl habits. He does also like to go and use Athem as a pillow whenever he’s available.

- The ruby pendant he wears in human form is the symbol of his contract with Azul, as it used to belong to Azul originally.

BG story in a nutshell:

Lasha was once a warrior of Arthanos, a lost Kingdom known for its dark magic and powerful warriors. He was one of the “channelers” warriors who could channel their deity’s magic power. Like every Channeler, he was paired with a normal warrior, who happened to be his childhood friend Athem. 

Athem had been in love with him since they were kids, and always tried to reign in Lasha’s violent tendencies, though rarely succeeding in it. In turn, Lasha found him an “annoying nag” or “party popping, straight-laced, goody-two-shoes bore with a stick up his ass, and not the good kind.”

Despite his harsh words, Lasha did actually return the feelings aimed at him, he just didn’t want to admit it openly.

It was Athem who was forced to banish Lasha into the dark realm once he transformed, as Lasha almost killed him. The snake didn’t really recall Athem or any of these events up until he appeared back into his new life as a Djinn.

Sometime during his demon years, Lasha was under another master who treated him horribly, thus resulting into his traumas. 

The reason why he adores his current master so much is because of his past experience, as Azul is actually decent towards him - aside from the name-calling and smacking his head when he misbehaves - which Lasha is really glad about, as part of him still yearns to be treated like a human and not a monster.

there were a number of contributing factors though. as soon as i was furloughed due to covid from a job i had worked incredibly hard not just to get but to keep, i decided fuck it it was time to take drastic measures, so i decided to go on testosterone, now testosterone replacement is something i had been looking into for close to a decade at that point, and i knew the risks and how to mitigate them, finally i decided it was time to try as id had nothing to lose. honestly it was underwhelming as far as what i was attempting to use it for, but it wasnt nothing and it was actually pretty cheap on top of it, so i did this for a full year and then some. when introduced phenibut into the mix, as a lark, seriously i had no idea what it was, i expected it was like a herbal supplement, thats the one time in my whole life i took anything without really knowing what it was, besides gas station boner pills, and i really thought phenibut was similar, that it would do nothing. but obviously it didnt and from literally the first dose i was badly physically dependent without realizing. one peculiar side effect is my anti estrogen pills straight up stopped working. for over a year i took one half of one, every three days, and i had almost no estrogen symptoms whatsover, but when i added phenibut two things happened right away, first of all i felt like what i thought steroids would feel like before i tried them, and i was suddenly going to the gym constantly, my weight jumped from 170 to 185 and lean, but then i started getting these insane estrogen sides, my nipples became puffy, i started bloating, acne etc, i had become quite familiar with what high estrogen feels like, and it was suddenly insanely out of control. i upped my anti estrogen pills to two a day and that seemed to work, but i quickly ran out of estrogen pills, i could have bought more, but at that point the psychosis had fully set in, and when my package wasnt delivered, instead a note was delivered saying i had to pick my package up at the post office, i was certain that the illuminati was responsible, i went out of my way to tell my mother “the illuminati is after me” which is not really what i thought, i suspected the literal devil was after me, but perhaps that would be more palatable. she wasnt thrilled.

This is the Chinese Karp of Gains, the 鱼王 (Yu-wang), the Golden God of the 346th Shiny Regiment. (yu-wang means “fish king”) Shinies and perfect IVs will come to you, but only if you write "THANK 鱼 BASED SHINY SWAP"in this post.

(To know what you’re actually thanking, keep reading.)

This karp was bred for a shiny Wimpod using the shiny swap method. It took me 346 karps to do this!!! (The shiny Wimpod is for my buddy Straw!! Kehehe) I’m actually surprised how not a lot of people’s heard of this abroad (it’s very well known in China)...but anyways here’s how it works. (Look up “shiny swap” if what I’m saying makes no sense.)

Let’s say if I bred thirteen Magikarp eggs, and the thirteenth one was shiny.

Now if I go back to the save state before I bred these thirteen eggs, bred twelve again, and this time, before the thirteenth egg is given to me, replace the ’mons in the nursery for a Wimpod egg, then this egg will be shiny too. 

Basically, the egg data is predetermined. What the shiny swap method does is it lets you find out which eggs are shiny first and then gives you a chance to decide what specific pokemon you want to make shiny.

Before you breed, you save. This is so you can go back in time when the shiny karp appears.

Then, use Magikarps to determine the egg data. Magikarps take the least steps to breed (≈ 500 steps with Flame Body). Consider: Shiny breeding Gibles whose eggs take about 5000 steps even with Flame Body vs. Shiny breeding Magikarps but still getting a shiny gible in the end. It’s ten times quicker. That’s why this is convenient.

Keep track of how many eggs you’ve bred. You need to know when to replace for the mon you want when you go back in time.

For convenience, save a couple times during breeding. It just makes the re-breeding process easier when you get your shiny (tfw you get your shiny at the 186th egg in the current save and you have to collect 185 eggs before that when you go back in time. Wouldn’t want that, right?). To do this, take out a pokemon from the nursery to stop the egg collection and make sure the lady outside the nursery isn’t waiting for you to collect an egg (you can’t switch pokemons in the nursery if she has one, which would not make the shiny swap method work when you go back in time because the point is to swap). Then make sure you’ve bred the rest of the eggs you have and that none of them are the ones you want. Then redeposit the pokemon into the nursery (or not) and save. You’ll start from this new save state and won’t have to worry about hatching all the eggs you did before when you go back in time.

You make the “time travel” happen when you get your shiny. Remember which egg that shiny belonged in. Quit the game. Relaunch. You’re back to the state where nothing has been bred yet. Just keep breeding, and before the shiny egg is acquired by the lady outside the nursery, replace the Magikarp parent(s) to the pokemon parents you want for your designated mon. Prerequisites: The language status (whether the parents are same/different language), species status (whether the parents are same/different species), and held items of the karp parents and the parents you switch into must be the same. If this is not kept consistent, the predetermined sequence will break and it won’t work.

And there, you should get your shiny.

Note: This method works for pokemons that have a 50/50 chance of being male and female. The process is slight different if the pokemon is fixed gender or genderless...that you have to look up. I haven’t figured it out yet. This is a very common way to get competitive shines too! The nature, gender rolls, ability rolls and which parent the pokemon inherits the IV from will also be predetermined. 

Example: Egg determining step - CHS 6IV Ditto with Destiny Knot + JPN Magikarp with Everstone (Different-species, different language, holds items.) At the 346th egg I finally got the God Fish. 

It’s a female and apparently inherited all IVs from the Ditto. (So it’s a 6IV.)

The save state I’m in leaves me with the 13th egg being the shiny egg, as you can see in the pic. (Be organized! It helps!) So now I quit the game and reload, collect Magikarp eggs because it makes life quicker, then I receive the 12th egg. Not breed the 12th egg, receive. I go back into the nursery, and replace my pokemons. Swapping step - CHS 6IV Ditto with Destiny Knot + ENG Golisopod with Everstone (Still different-species, different language, holds the same items as before.) I collect the 13th egg. 

I breed the 13th egg.  The Wimpod that results is shiny. 

And it’s 6IV.
