rajbow (raj x bowie): o b v!! can't have one of these asks without these two, tbvh, I adore them and from what I've heard abt them, I love how Fresh handled them--the fact that the only canon gay ship is also on the list of the healthiest ships is wild and I freaking love it!! they're so adorable together too--and let me say I noticed the connection between Bowie getting crowns and Raj's name meaning 'king' immediately and it made me love them more! I can't wait to see more of them next season, and I hope Fresh doesn't fuck around with them like they've done with other ships 🤞

emwayne (emma x wayne): while I understand where the zemma shippers are coming from, I'm gonna have to say that I can see them as a pairing, but mostly I see zee and emma as friends than lovers. moving onto wayne and emma, I've seen a couple of rlly cute fanart abt them that roped me into rooting for them; also, I saw this tumblr post that talked abt wayne helping emma see that her and chase aren't right for each other bc of the break between bowie and emma's friendship; I thought it'd be cute that emma realizes what an actual relationship is supposed to be like based on the way wayne treats her and the two grow closer as he helps her come into herself more. overall, really cute pairing!!

nichaxel (nichelle x axel): MY LESBIAN BABES!!! ever since I saw that one scene where they interacted, I was HOOKED, I'm SO SO on board with these two getting together, ugh, I can just imagine how badass and amazing they'd be!! axel teaching nichelle to fight so she can make her comeback next season??? nichelle helping axel tune more into her emotions and her heart??? sign me tf up!! they'd be unstoppable, legit, I want this so bad! seriously, I hope Fresh does smth with them next season and if they don't get them together, I hope they at least let them be friends, goddammit!

damien x priya (idk their shipname 😭): from the screenshots I've seen of the two, I think they're cute together!! wonder if next season will involve them more 🤔 it's funny too bc it's the guy who doesn't have a clue abt total drama with the girl who knows everything abt it; like imagine priya getting damien to watch the prev seasons and damien returning next season like a fricking icon with his newfound knowledge. honestly I'm on the fence abt these two; I like them as a pairing, but also I think they're great as good friends too! (also I've seen a lot of ppl talking abt millie x priya; I personally don't have an opinion abt that, I haven't gotten that far to have one. So, to me, they're just good friends!) (on that note, for the scary girl x damien shippers, I personally see them as friends, I just can't see scary girl with anyone sorry 😅)

chazee (chase x zee): okay, hear me out on this one. before the season came out, when all I knew abt everyone were those random pics of episodes, I remember wishing chase to be gay (or bi or smth that isn't straight or he realizes he's not straight while in the show) bc it'd break that stereotype which I thought would be cool--and I shipped him with zee like offhandedly, nothing extreme, just lowkey. like I thought their shipname was cute (chazee?? hello?? literally adorable?? and I've found out that ppl are calling them cheese now too and fdhdjf that just makes it cuter). then I started watching the season and got to know chase's whole personality, I was like 'ehhhh' and this pairing just...got shunted to the far corners of my mind. THEN I came across this freaking adorable fic of these two (it's this one!) that somehow converted me back to shipping these two??? then I started thinking up random scenarios involving the two and yeah imma say I adore these two. idk I feel like zee would be good for chase, like their way of viewing the world would be pretty helpful for someone like chase?? (plus the whole sexuality crisis can still exist on chase's end bc imo zee is the kinda person to already be aware of a lot of things abt him (their gender, their sexuality, etc) but not put much emphasis on it, y'feel?), and maybe chase's way of expressing himself would balance out zee's??? who knows?? idk I feel like this ship has a lot of potential and it's worth exploring-

mkulia (mk x julia): they'd be the queens of meet-uglies lmaoo but no rlly, they'd be rlly great together, I feel! they give off alenoah vibes too, which I think is pretty neat! idk much abt them rn bc I'm only a fourth in the season, but I will def let you know my thoughts once I do!

oh, btw, as a treat, let me talk abt my least fav character in the season after I talked abt my fav ships fhjdfhI okay so I genuinely dislike ripper so much lmfao, like in the beginning he was 'meh' to me and he just plummeted the more I watched the season. I would not subject anyone to the pain of being shipped with him at all (the only ship I can tolerate is chipper but even then it's shipped ironically and I've hardly any interest in it; sorry chipper fans lmao)😭 literally hope he gets eliminated early next season--it's what he deserves after the whole deal with axel's elimination this season.

Since I linked to a Logan/Kurt fanart down below that was done for my fic, and even though I haven't written them in eons, I'll pick them for this one. Headcanon: I think that Kurt absolutely crushed on Logan, his best friend, long before Logan ever reciprocated the feelings because Logan was so obsessed and hung up on Jean and couldn't see anyone else but her (I also think that she fueled that with her telepathy because she was so self-centered and narcissistic that she cared more about having two guys fighting over her than the two guys involved actually being happy beyond her, so that didn't help). I think Kurt also never figured that Logan would return those feelings because he'd only ever see him with women all over him and knew nothing at all about Logan's bisexuality. Who'd have believed it? It took Jean dying and staying dead (finally) and Emma nudging Kurt to make a move before he got to realize his crush wasn't unrequited.

1) I'm about to turn 51 (can't I just say 50 forever now? thanks!) in two days, which means that in spite of all the anxiety and self-dislike (and mostly dislike of where I'm living compared to where I'd rather be living) and all the other *gestures at the world* bullshit, I've made it another year on this stupid planet.

2) I'm about to have coffee with my sister (meaning, we're having coffee at home and drinking it in our respective rooms but we're still having it together).

3) Regardless of the anxiety I feel almost daily, I'm still writing pretty steadily.

I’m so sorry if this is a bother, but i thought you might be a good person to ask. i recently rewatched danny phantom as an adult - i loved it as a kid and wanted a good dose of nostalgia. after typing in the tag it was wild to find the phandom still up and kicking (honestly with more passion than i’ve seen from any fandom in my 8 years of tumblr). i immediately came across fanart for phantom of truth which i devoured along with its sequel in just a few days. i also read pits by cordria and loved it, but in the last week i’ve hit a bit of a research lull. i was wondering if you could fill me in on some details - maybe point me in the direction of popular fics or material? also, could you please explain wes weston to me - is there a particular fic he was born from or did he just sort of appear in fan lore? if not no worries, but i’d appreciate anything you had to offer!! thanks :)

Welcome to the phandom!

So the phandom in general is SUPER big on events. We have a year round event's calendar of which we're currently celebrating Ectober Month! You can find the details to that in the calendar along with other upcoming events!

In general, you'll find a LOT of incoming dp fan media through events and their tags, and that's where I tend to find new writers/artists to follow each year.

I've made two in depth posts on Wes Weston, so I'll just link them here [1: the older detailed wes] [2: a more updated wes]. The basic intel though is that yes he's entirely a phandom made OC that we've just adopted to fill a social hole in the dp universe.

There are tons of amazing DP writers and fics. I'll link you a few of my faves! In no particular order,

1. @imekitty (her ffn) is an older phandom writer who is kinda my personal gold standard for angst. She's also done some awesome slash fics though! Her current most popular series is the Disparaged/Dissembled series and fair warning, it's pretty dark!

2. @ecto-american (ghostanimal on ao3) is another older phandom writer who's still super active! He's currently most known for his fic Broken Ectoplasm, which is a bit darker than his usual pieces. Regardless, he has a pretty good range!

3. @five-rivers (marsalias on ao3) is an absolute writing fiend. I literally can't think of a genre of fic that they haven't written. They're currently best known for their monster of a longfic Mortified, which is ongoing and currently sits at a 258 chapters, or a little over a half million words. I personally am a big fan of their Exhumed series.

4. @wastefulreverie (her ao3) doesn't write a ton for dp anymore, but her archive of fics is AMAZING. Every so often I'll just go binge her writing, it's seriously fantastic. I think she has written some of my favorite angst fics that I've found so far.

5. @ladylynse (lynse on ao3) is another really big writer who also does a fair amount of crossovers if you're into that. Currently, her biggest fic is The Trouble With Ghosts which is an extremely popular fic currently. Good stuff!

6. @things-i-cannot-do-in-amitypark (their ao3) has several extremely popular fics on ao3 and ffn. I definitely recommend checking out their stuff. They've been writing DP for years and really have a great grasp on narration and building an exciting story.

7. @kinglazrus (UnluckyAlis on ao3) is actually one of the fastest writers I've ever freaking met. They're most known for their fic The Survivalists which is about Danny's class disappearing only to be found stranded on an island. Overall, really fun writer and also a cool person as well.

8. I know you said you read Pits, but @cordria has a TON of oneshots on her Tumblr as well as her ffn and ao3. I've been following her works for years and she really is an absolute S tier writer.

9. Shift by CaptainOzone is literally my favorite dp fic ever written. The basic premise is that Danny didn't grow up in Amity, and is revealed as Phantom right before he moves there. Oz is an outstanding writer and I'm super pumped they dipped their toes into DP for this fic.

10. when im dead, my dearest by redrobin1989 is only three chapters long, but i think honestly it really exemplifies an incredibly well written Valerie-centered fic. I go back and reread it every so often because wowowow.

11. Roughing It by Haiju is a big phandom favorite. You already read PoT/SOAD, so I know you'll like this one hahaha.

12. The Ghost Of Heroes by Enigmaris and ScarletNightFury is a really popular DP/MCU crossover starring an amazing bond between Danny and Spiderman. It's a pretty lighthearted fic, but it's super fun and the storylines are really engaging.

13. Don't Threaten Me With A Good Time by MissMegHolden is a DP/Young Justice fic that's very popular right now if you like that crossover. It's ongoing and updates semi-regularly. I've been following it for a while and I love it, though this is one of my fave crossover types (and I'm a big fan of DP crossovers lmao).

14. In The Eye of a Needle by mystyrust is an extremely popular DP/BNHA crossover fic that is completed. This is another one of those fics I go back and reread a lot.

Okay I could keep going but I'm going to stop here for now. All in all, I definitely recommend scouring event tags for new writers/artists. The phandom also has a discord that you can always DM me for an invite. The phandom in general is extremely chill. We're an older fandom so we really don't have drama or anything.

Ok so, I've mentioned this before but since it's relevant to the question, and since people forget things: my mother was a watercolor artist. At since I was like 5 years old my mother would put her paintings in front of me and ask how they looked. Over time I learned more. ESPECIALLY when I got into this special boarding art school program during highschool that met up on weekends. There they had us every Sunday critique everyone's paintings. Like I was SCARY good at it. But at the same time, it was all constructive.

It wasnt "this is ugly, the style is gross, I don't want to look at it" it was more like: the shading doesn't contrast enough, since this is a pencil work, the grey tones blend in too much. You need to enhance the contrast of it to make things stand out. Or: the proportions of person A are off, the jaw is too wide and their shoulders are two narrow given the reference image and what you're going for. Person B is fine minus the hands being off. (Or something along those lines)

So I know not all artists are open to receiving criticism, whether constructive or not. Which is fine, that's their own right. But I was wondering how would I even be able to tell if they don't say it??? And how to advise approaching it? Because there's a lot of artists out there that I think are great, and the potential they have is amazing, but I also know what it's like to stare at something for 6 hours straight and be like 'this isn't fucking right but I don't know what's wrong' and then place it in front of someone else, have them tell you, and you want to bash your head in because of course that's what it is. But also you're grateful to them for pointing it out because now you can actually fix the thing. So...

Long story short... How can I approach an artist to give them constructive criticism on tumblr fanart?

(I REALLY want to emphasize the word constructive because I really dislike it when people insult a style or something like that because??? It's a person's style??? It's intentionally done like that??? Like are you going to critique Picasso on his proportions??? No. You critique color scheme, feel, and MAYBE shading. Not proportions.)

ohhhh this is a REALLY good question...this is something a lot of people myself included struggled with thruout my like. Art Learning Experience.

one of my teachers was die-hard on the "compliment sandwich" method—where one sandwiches a criticism between two compliments on the artists work, that way the criticism is neither the first, nor the last thing they hear about their piece.

In my experience, this is extremely useful for some people! particularly those who haven't had the opportunity to be criticized much! I think that, though, if you're going to compliment sandwich, you have to make sure that you put at least equal effort into identifying what makes the piece work and why, because when it's just "it's a really great piece BUT—" it can come across kind of condescending sometimes!

I think the most important part of this is probably making sure that you've got the consent and approval to offer criticism—like. for most people in my life, I try to keep a strict policy of "If you do not express dissatisfaction with your work, and if you do not tell me that you want constructive criticism, I am not going to offer it" and generally they know this too! This way, if they just want to show me something they've made, I can just support them on what they've done well! It helps me know how to engage with their work since I'm never wondering "should I try and offer to help or do they just want to show me something cool they've made?" since it relies on explicit communication! Like, if a friend says "this just isn't coming out right :(" I know that I can say something like "do you want me to try and offer some criticism that might be of use?" and then if they say "No, it'll just frustrate me more" or "yes! thanks!" I know what to do!

BUT that said, that's useful for friends who I have a rapport with and who trust me and my input.

If you are approaching somebody who doesn't know you well to offer critique, generally I would only offer it if they seem to be struggling or frustrated with something—like, if in the tags of a post they wrote something like "Something about [character]'s expression just Doesn't sit right...they're supposed to look confused, but instead they just look mad." I would be like: "If you'd be open to it, I have some suggestions which you could of course use or discard depending on how useful you find them?" Also. I just. generally like to put a lot of effort into complimenting people on what they do well, because I tend to zero in on something and try to Fix The Problem, and so putting a lot of focus on what people do well benefits both me and them—it benefits me because it helps me step away from my "fix the problem" mindset, and approach the art as a whole. It also helps the individual I'm critiquing because, so long as I genuinely put effort into complimenting what works, that is still constructive criticism!

Like, if I'm trying to find my way out of a pitch dark room, and I'm only told when I take a step in the right direction, I'll still get out eventually, you know? It might take a little more time than it would if I was told when I took a step in the wrong direction, but it still works for helping people with their art, and is the easiest kind of criticism to give and receive between strangers, those who (understandably) have developed insecurities about their art due to bad crit in the past, or even between people who don't trust each other much (I don't mean this in a bad way. just like. acquaintances or distant friends vs Close Friends)

It just has to be honest and and specific, for that to work. you, supervaca, have expressed that u've spent time in critique environments, so I bet you know the gulf of difference between "this is absolutely stunning!" and "I think the expression is very clear, and the flow from the character's pose and line of sight directs you very clearly to the next most important part of the image! Really wonderful work!"

Like, both are wonderful to hear of course! But one of them is a praising form of constructive criticism, and the other is simply praise itself.

The nerve some people have! Haha I know I would be pissed if people were questioning my intelligence like that especially after a couple of drinks in haha. Though I do like taunting people when I play group games, I'll be like "don't need to try that hard guys, you're gonna lose anyway" just to mess with them or just call people sore losers if they accuse me of cheating haha (they're probably right on the accusations tho). People get real mad sometimes it's kinda funny. 😂

Omg literally laughed out loud reading this! Hahaha, how did you manage to fall over a road sign then end up in a ditch? lol omg hope you didn't get hurt too bad 😂 I was trying to downplay my drunken escapades but since you shared yours I should tell you my worst one:

I was at this summer street party at night and got drunk on something made out of tropical herbs and cachaça (which is about 48% alcohol), drank 3 and a half bottles of that like it was apple juice, made friends with a bunch of strangers in a bathroom queue (who tried to talk to me weeks later but I had no idea who they were), had to be held by my best friend while I peed (mostly missing the toilet), fell in the middle of the street and scraped my knee, threatened this boy who was helping me walk and told him not to try anything funny or I would beat him up, then dragged my friends to the beach and left them shortly after to go make out with my ex, came back with lipstick all over my mouth and chin and when my friends asked what I was doing I said I was just talking to my ex and they were like NO YOU WERE NOT, hahaha then I kissed all my girl friends on a dare and we danced under the full moon, then I told my best friend I had to puke so she took me to the ocean but I changed my mind and happened to step on a dead turtle on the way back and started crying bc of it, but last month my best friend told me it was a rock I had stepped on (I believed it was a dead turtle for 7 years!). Had the worst hangover of my life the next day. ✌️✨

Oh I could talk about Dani and Jamie forever I think. I love the beast in the jungle speech too and it's so painful to watch, VP delivered that beautifully, but I have to admit I'm always a crying mess from episode 1 when older Jamie starts reciting that song about being sad while waiting for her lover to return, this show is fucking cruel I hate it and love it at the same time hahaha. I used to draw a lot, really loved doing it when I was a kid as I said before, and all throughout adulthood too but I haven't done that in almost a year now bc I've got a bit of a case of burnout I guess, it just takes a lot of effort to do it when it shouldn't be like that at all. I used to do fanart too, for other fandoms. Even made one for Dani x Jamie but ended up not liking how it turned out haha. I've got a lot of respect for writers and fanfic writers also! Yall can make words make sense in really interesting and beautiful ways, build worlds so enthralling I can see them vividly in my head. Writing is such an incredibly fascinating skill to have! And I guess the most important thing is that we enjoy doing these things right? Even if we think we're not particularly good at it.

I was fine and was just laid laughing while my friend looked down at me and in the most northern accent ever just said "get up you dickhead." and helped me off of the floor and then asked if I was okay... and I was so it was all good!! Haha 😂 I love this drunken story that sounds like one hell of a night and is a roller coaster from start to finish!! I'm sorry you thought you had stood on a dead turtle for 7 years though, someone really should've told you that it was just a rock!! But that sounds like my kind of night!! I love nights like that... stories that will last a life time... the only down side is the hangover... luckily I have only ever had one hang over in my life and it wasn't the morning after the road sign fiasco...
