In 1898 African-Americans were a majority of Wilmington, NC’s population. The entire city was operated by colored people. Most owned homes and businesses in the city. Some houses were oceanfront. The city was independently Black owned, having their own banks, newspapers and government. On November 10, 1898, white insurgents overthrew the elected government and forced black leaders out of the city. They massacred families, burned down their homes and businesses. It is considered the only successful coup, a sudden, violent, and illegal seizure of power from a government, in American history. African Americans who survived never regained their land nor their power. All their financial assets were stolen illegally by the racists

Our #battles always begin with ourselves. When I passed this #monument today, I was forced to acknowledge what was once of #warwithin me. It happened when a #stonewarrior called out to me. The monument is of the #Navajo #Codetalkers, 400 Navajo #Marines that served in World War to code messages enemies could not break. I cannot conceive of a #government asking these men to serve after doing everything possible to end their #existence and the existence of #indigenouspeople of #NorthAmerica in #actsofgenocide. Yet, they served the nation responsible for the #slaughter of millions. The #karma has come and the #perpetrators of these wrongs had no thought of the effects on their generations to come. I am the #descendant of the indigenous #Cherokee, the #African #slave, and the #Colonials. I have grandfathers and grandmothers among them all and I am the adopted father of a Navajo Daughter. The behavior of the Colonials killed millions of African slaves and millions of people indigenous to North America. Descendants of the Colonials are the only people on #Earth to ever use a #nuclearweapon on a population. The same now want to tell others who may even have the weapon. Colonial were the original #terrorists and now terrorists #haunt the world. Karma will not be denied. I have #hated. I have #loved. Hate costs too much #soul. I have made #peace with my #bloodlines. I cannot deny them. They produced me. It all happened when a stone warrior called out to me. (at Suites of America)
