“On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place. Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.” —Acts 2:1‭-‬4 (NLT)
“After this prayer, the meeting place shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Then they preached the word of God with boldness.” —Acts 4:31 (NLT)
Today is Pentecost Sunday. Why do Christians celebrate Pentecost? Here are some insights from Crosswalk.com:
“Pentecost is a Christian holiday, observed on the seventh Sunday after Easter, that celebrates the blessing of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus Christ, as mentioned in the Acts of the Apostles (Acts 2:1-31). The day of Pentecost is known in the Christian Church as the day on which the Spirit descended upon the apostles. Guided by Peter's preaching, many thousands were converted in Jerusalem.
This year, Pentecost will be on Sunday, May 28th, 2023 occurring seven weeks after Easter Sunday (April 9). Why do Christians celebrate Pentecost? According to Ray Pritchard from Christianity.com, “Modern Christians observe Pentecost as a holiday, not to celebrate a wheat harvest, but to remember when the Holy Spirit invaded the Church in Acts 2.”
The description in Act 2 states that, after Jesus ascended into heaven, Jesus’ followers were gathered together for the Feast of Harvest (aka Pentecost), and the Holy Spirit “filled the whole house where they were sitting” (Acts 2:2). “All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them” (Acts 2:4). This unusual event drew a large crowd, and Peter stood up to speak to them about repentance and the gospel of Christ (Acts 2:14). By the end of the day that the Holy Spirit came, the Church grew by 3,000 people (Acts 2:41). This is why Christians still celebrate Pentecost.
Pentecost in the Bible:
Acts 2:1-4 "When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. hey saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them."
John 14:26 "But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you."
Exodus 32:22 "Celebrate the Festival of Weeks with the firstfruits of the wheat harvest, and the Festival of Ingathering at the turn of the year."
A Prayer for Pentecost:
Dear Heavenly Father, on this day, 2000 years ago, you inaugurated the church by having the Holy Spirit indwell in your believers. We rejoice that you have allowed us, men and women, Jew and Gentile, to experience new life. Thank you for the gift of the Holy Spirit, our comforter, our guide, and so many other things. And may we continue to celebrate this day until you return again. Amen."

‭Acts‬ ‭3:1‭-‬10‬ ‭NIV‬
[1] One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer—at three in the afternoon. [2] Now a man who was lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts. [3] When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money. [4] Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, “Look at us!” [5] So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them. [6] Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” [7] Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong. [8] He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God. [9] When all the people saw him walking and praising God, [10] they recognized him as the same man who used to sit begging at the temple gate called Beautiful, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.

‭Psalms‬ ‭103:1‭-‬22‬ ‭LSB‬
[1] Bless Yahweh, O my soul, And all that is within me, bless His holy name. [2] Bless Yahweh, O my soul, And forget none of His benefits; [3] Who pardons all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases; [4] Who redeems your life from the pit, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and compassion; [5] Who satisfies your years with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle. [6] ¶Yahweh performs righteous deeds And judgments for all who are oppressed. [7] He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the sons of Israel. [8] Yahweh is compassionate and gracious, Slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness. [9] He will not always contend with us, And He will not keep His anger forever. [10] He has not dealt with us according to our sins, And He has not rewarded us according to our iniquities. [11] For as high as the heavens are above the earth, So great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear Him. [12] As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us. [13] As a father has compassion on his children, So Yahweh has compassion on those who fear Him. [14] For He Himself knows our form; He remembers that we are but dust. [15] ¶As for man, his days are like grass; As a flower of the field, so he flowers. [16] When the wind has passed over it, it is no more, And its place acknowledges it no longer. [17] But the lovingkindness of Yahweh is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear Him, And His righteousness to children’s children, [18] To those who keep His covenant And remember His precepts to do them. [19] ¶Yahweh has established His throne in the heavens, And His kingdom rules over all. [20] Bless Yahweh, you His angels, Mighty in strength, who perform His word, Obeying the voice of His word! [21] Bless Yahweh, all you His hosts, You who serve Him, doing His will. [22] Bless Yahweh, all you works of His, In all places of His rule; Bless Yahweh, O my soul!

JESUS REVIENT

**Do Not let your heart grow cold**
Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies [dedicating all of yourselves, set apart] as a living sacrifice, holy and well-pleasing to God, which is your rational (logical, intelligent) act of worship. And do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs], but be transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you].
Romans 12:1‭-‬2 amp
It really does not matter much how much time we spend in the Word as long as what we read truly renews our minds. Most serious born again believers in Christ know they need to renew their minds every day but we (yes, myself included) are sometimes carried away by our daily lives, our problems or need of distraction. We can neglect our time in the Word of of God, which means we neglect to renew our minds. I have learned by my own experience that when we do that, we starve our souls and minds. We begin to feel God is far away from us, and we can’t feel His presence anymore.
That is when we put ourselves in serious danger. While our souls and minds are starving our hearts grow colder. Pretty soon after that we will start thinking this and that sin is not that bad and we will fall into temptation a lot easier. We always have to make sure our hearts are burning for Jesus. Burning for Him means total surrender of ourselves to Him, total trust in Him (no matter what our circumstances are), total relying on Him, obeying all His commands and abiding in God all the time. Jesus did not give a lot of commands to follow, He had only 2:
Then one of the scribes [an expert in Mosaic Law] came up and listened to them arguing [with one another], and noticing that Jesus answered them: “I am giving you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, so you too are to love one another”
John 13:34 amp
Loving others includes all these:
Beloved, let us [unselfishly] love and seek the best for one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves [others] is born of God and knows God [through personal experience]. The one who does not love has not become acquainted with God [does not and never did know Him], for God is love. [He is the originator of love, and it is an enduring attribute of His nature.] 1 John 4:7-8 amp
Finally, all of you be like-minded [united in spirit], sympathetic, brotherly, kindhearted [courteous and compassionate toward each other as members of one household], and humble in spirit; and never return evil for evil or insult for insult [avoid scolding, berating, and any kind of abuse], but on the contrary, give a blessing [pray for one another’s well-being, contentment, and protection]; for you have been called for this very purpose, that you might inherit a blessing [from God that brings well-being, happiness, and protection]. Peter 3:8-9 amp
Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit [through factional motives, or strife], but with [an attitude of] humility [being neither arrogant nor self-righteous], regard others as more important than yourselves.
Philippians 2:3 amp
Be kind and helpful to one another, tender-hearted [compassionate, understanding], forgiving one another [readily and freely], just as God in Christ also forgave you.
Ephesians 4:32 amp
For if you forgive others their trespasses [their reckless and willful sins], your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others [nurturing your hurt and anger with the result that it interferes with your relationship with God], then your Father will not forgive your trespasses. Matthew 6:14-15
Whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him [drop the issue, let it go], so that your Father who is in heaven will also forgive you your transgressions and wrongdoings [against Him and others].
Mark 11:25 amp
And so faith, hope, love abide [faith–conviction and belief respecting man’s relation to God and divine things; hope–joyful and confident expectation of eternal salvation; love–true affection for God and man, growing out of God’s love for and in us], these three; but the greatest of these is love.
1 Corinthians 13:13 ampc
Little children, let us not love [merely] in theory or in speech but in deed and in truth (in practice and in sincerity). By this we shall come to know (perceive, recognize, and understand) that we are of the Truth, and can reassure (quiet, conciliate, and pacify) our hearts in His presence,
1 John 3:18‭-‬19 ampc
If anyone says, I love God, and hates (detests, abominates) his brother [in Christ], he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. And this command (charge, order, injunction) we have from Him: that he who loves God shall love his brother [believer] also.
1 John 4:20‭-‬21 ampc
And there are many more Scripture on how to relate to our brothers and sisters in Christ.
Renewing our minds is essential because it is working out our salvation:
“So then, my dear ones, just as you have always obeyed [my instructions with enthusiasm], not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence, continue to work out your salvation [that is, cultivate it, bring it to full effect, actively pursue spiritual maturity] with awe-inspired fear and trembling [using serious caution and critical self-evaluation to avoid anything that might offend God or discredit the name of Christ].”
Philippians 2:12 amp
Working out our salvation is done in collaboration with the Holy Spirit. It is when we allow Him to transform us from the inside out in order for us to produce His fruit. It is also called the sanctification process. It simply means we work with the Holy Spirit to become more and more Christlike.
Finally, I will leave you with the ultimate danger of letting our hearts grow cold (not renewing our minds). Consider this carefully! Even some born again believers will not make it to heaven!:
I know your deeds, that you are neither cold (invigorating, refreshing) nor hot (healing, therapeutic); I wish that you were cold or hot. So because you are lukewarm (spiritually useless), and neither hot nor cold, I will vomit you out of My mouth [rejecting you with disgust]. Revelation 3:15-16 amp

“On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.” —John 7:37‭-‬39 (NKJV)
“Who Is The Holy Spirit?” Devotional. Day 4 - “The Holy Spirit is Always On and Always Available” By Switch (Life.Church):
“Have you ever been jealous of Jesus’ disciples? He sat across from them at the dinner table every night. They went everywhere together. They could ask Him about anything. If something He said wasn’t clear, they could just poke Him on the shoulder and ask what He meant. But, Jesus was limited by His human body. Sometimes, He would even hide from everyone so He could have some alone time with God.
Those first disciples could literally reach out and touch God. It’s easy to get jealous because Jesus was so real to them. But, when He was preparing to leave earth, Jesus told His followers they would be better off because He was sending them the Holy Spirit. Instead of having to find Jesus to ask a question, the Holy Spirit would live inside them. He would be available at any moment for any reason. Just think about Him, and He’d be there. Need guidance? Feeling confused? Wondering what to do? Just ask and He would hear.
Our relationship with God isn’t limited. We’ve been promised the same real time access to God through the Holy Spirit. He lives inside of us, and He speaks into our thoughts, our emotions, our dreams, and our passions.
Imagine that God wanted to do something in your school. He might start by having the Holy Spirit whisper parts of His plan to several people. They might not even know each other or attend the same church, but they’re each listening to the Holy Spirit and doing what He says. Piece by piece, He lays out a plan of action to accomplish the thing God wants to do. In His timing, the pieces come together and God’s plan happens.
In fact, the book of Acts is full of crazy stories about how the Holy Spirit put the right people together at the right time to make something special happen. Honestly, with the Holy Spirit living inside each of us, the possibilities are as limitless as God himself. Our only job is to listen to that quiet voice in our head and do our best to obey.
But wait, how do I really know that the voice I’m hearing is from God? Great question. We’ll talk about that tomorrow.”

‭Acts‬ ‭1:1‭-‬6‬ ‭NIV‬
[1] In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach [2] until the day he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen. [3] After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. [4] On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. [5] For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” [6] Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?”

‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭16:1‭-‬29‬ ‭LSB‬
[1] And they brought in the ark of God and placed it inside the tent which David had pitched for it, and they brought burnt offerings and peace offerings near before God. [2] Then David completed offering the burnt offerings and the peace offerings. And he blessed the people in the name of Yahweh. [3] And he apportioned to everyone of Israel, both men and women, to everyone a loaf of bread and a portion of meat and a raisin cake. [4] And he made some of the Levites ministers before the ark of Yahweh, even to bring remembrance and to thank and praise Yahweh, the God of Israel: [5] Asaph the chief, and second to him Zechariah, then Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-edom, and Jeiel, with musical instruments, harps, lyres; also Asaph played loud-sounding cymbals, [6] and Benaiah and Jahaziel the priests blew trumpets continually before the ark of the covenant of God. [7] Then on that day David first assigned Asaph and his relatives to give thanks to Yahweh. [8] Oh give thanks to Yahweh, call upon His name; Make known His acts among the peoples. [9] Sing to Him, sing praises to Him; Muse on all His wondrous deeds. [10] Boast in His holy name; Let the heart of those who seek Yahweh be glad. [11] Inquire of Yahweh and His strength; Seek His face continually. [12] Remember His wondrous deeds which He has done, His miraculous signs and the judgments uttered by His mouth, [13] O seed of Israel His servant, O sons of Jacob, His chosen ones! [14] He is Yahweh our God; His judgments are in all the earth. [15] Remember His covenant forever, The word which He commanded for a thousand generations, [16] Which He cut with Abraham, And His oath to Isaac. [17] Then He also confirmed it to Jacob for a statute, To Israel as an everlasting covenant, [18] Saying, “To you I will give the land of Canaan, As the portion of your inheritance,” [19] When you were only a few men in number, Of little account, and sojourners in it, [20] And they wandered about from nation to nation, And from one kingdom to another people, [21] He permitted no man to oppress them, And He reproved kings for their sakes, [22] “Do not touch My anointed ones, And against My prophets do no evil.” [23] Sing to Yahweh, all the earth; Proclaim good news of His salvation from day to day. [24] Recount His glory among the nations, His wondrous deeds among all the peoples. [25] For great is Yahweh, and greatly to be praised; And He is more fearsome than all gods. [26] For all the gods of the peoples are idols, But Yahweh made the heavens. [27] Splendor and majesty are before Him, Strength and joy are in His place. [28] Ascribe to Yahweh, O families of the peoples, Ascribe to Yahweh glory and strength. [29] Ascribe to Yahweh the glory of His name; Lift up an offering, and come before Him; Worship Yahweh in the splendor of holiness.

‭Acts‬ ‭2:1‭-‬13‬ ‭NIV‬
[1] When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. [2] Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. [3] They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. [4] All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. [5] Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. [6] When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. [7] Utterly amazed, they asked: “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans? [8] Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? [9] Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, [10] Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome [11] (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!” [12] Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?” [13] Some, however, made fun of them and said, “They have had too much wine.”

‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭13:1‭-‬13‬ ‭LSB‬
[1] If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. [2] And if I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. [3] And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing. [4] Love is patient, love is kind, is not jealous, does not brag, is not puffed up; [5] it does not act unbecomingly, does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered; [6] it does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; [7] it bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. [8] Love never fails, but if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be done away. [9] For we know in part and we prophesy in part, [10] but when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away. [11] When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child. When I became a man, I did away with childish things. [12] For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known. [13] But now abide faith, hope, love—these three; but the greatest of these is love.

“Moses answered, “What if they do not believe me or listen to me and say, ‘The Lord did not appear to you’?” Then the Lord said, “If they do not believe you or pay attention to the first sign, they may believe the second. But if they do not believe these two signs or listen to you, take some water from the Nile and pour it on the dry ground. The water you take from the river will become blood on the ground.” Moses said to the Lord, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.” The Lord said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.” But Moses said, “Pardon your servant, Lord. Please send someone else.” —Exodus 4:1‭, ‬8‭-‬13 (NIV)
“Moses to the Rescue” By Bible Love Notes
“Moses saw himself as a rescuer (Exodus 2:11-25). He killed an Egyptian while rescuing a Hebrew slave and had to flee for his life. When he reached Midian, his first act was to rescue Reuel's daughters (including his future wife) from bully shepherds.
But the years that followed changed Moses. He lost his self-confidence. God could have used the confident young Moses, Pharaoh's adopted grandson. He was bold and self-assured. He had a position of power and influence. But God used the elderly, fearful shepherd Moses, the "nobody" who no longer imagined himself a rescuer (Exodus 4:1-17).
We choose leaders who are confident in themselves, confident in their abilities, those with good self-images, who believe they can do anything they set their minds to do. We choose them and try to emulate them. But God waited until Moses was drained of his own self-confidence so he could place his confidence in God (1 Peter 5:6). May we make that our goal as well.”
