(Written by Luz Isidora Noceda, Hailey Alohilani Banks and Rhayniel Saldasal Calimpong / Regional Correspondent and Oceanside High School news intern of Disney XD News & Freelance News Writer, Online Media Reporter and News Presenter of OneNETnews)
MANILA, NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION -- Filipina star of Kapamilya Channel (formerly ABS-CBN) and Star Cinema's film actress named Kathryn Chandria Manuel Bernardo from Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija wins Best Actress at The Manila Hotel's Fiesta Pavilion, wrapping up recently to announce the awardees from nominations Sunday night (May 26th, 2024 at 11:27pm -- Manila local time) at the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) awards.

Ito ang una ko. Thank you so much po FAMAS.

Himala (1982) - this my ult fave, the reason why i love cinema!!! (TW: rape)
Fangirl (2020, Dir. Atonette Jadaone) - this is another filipino film that i really enjoyed watching, i recommend that you watch the trailer first before delving into the film bc they marketed this so well! Jadaone is one of the rising directors in filipino cinema, i like her screenplays a lot, excellent writer. The lead actress, charlie dizon, is amazing in this film, she's very new to the industry but her performance in this is EXPERT LEVEL!!! I love her!!! Summary: girl who is obsessed w popstar discovers the ugly truth about said popstar (TW: rape, violence, drugs) - commentary on fanaticism (but this time pop culture), also on filipino toxic masculinity
La Boum (1980) - one of my comfort films! This is a coming of age story but not so much on heavier conflicts, the protagonist reminds me of deoksun from reply 1988! Four Sisters Before the Wedding (2020)
Haven’t seen the 2013 Filipino movie Four Sisters and a Wedding? That’s ok. You can start with its 2020 prequel, Four Sisters Before the Wedding. Its dramatic scenes overcome cultural boundaries. The comedy… sometimes does as well. It’s nice, breezy fun.
Sisters Alexandra “Alex” Salazar (Gillian Vicencio), Theodora “Teddie” (Charlie Dizon), Roberta “Bobbie” (Alexa Ilacad), and Gabriella “Gabbie” are ordinary teenagers with ordinary troubles. While working hard to earn the grades their parents expect and crushing on boys they’re not allowed to date until they’ve graduated from school they begin suspecting their father (Dominic Ochoa) is having an affair.
In a foreign movie, I want a taste of something different. I don’t want to see another country merely emulating what Hollywood does; I want to see customs and culture weave a new story or make an old story feel new. You get a fair amount of this in Four Sisters Before the Wedding. The sisters are ordinary sisters in every way. They tease each other about which boy they think about, argue about who is borrowing who’s shoes, worry about who their parents like best, etc. There are also some parts of this story that are definitely Filipino. The family’s financial situation, for example. Bobbie is being offered a prestigious scholarship in New York. Can her parents afford to pay for her lodgings in America? The girls can’t even reliably count on their phones having minutes left. The parents could ask Grandma but this stress is probably the reason why dad strayed - assuming he did. If you have family members who’ve had to work abroad and send money back home, you’ll recognize yourself in these characters. Even if you don’t, the dynamics between the actresses are excellent. You get to know them well as individuals, which makes their little romantic adventures sweet and satisfying.
Less successful - or perhaps palatable to foreign audiences - are the comedic scenes. Comedienne Kakai Bautista plays a private investigator that drove me up the wall. Her schemes to get the truth revealed are just too dumb, even in this kind of movie. There’s also a horrible lesbian stereotype played by Cai Cortez. The P.I. is necessary for the plot and ads some welcome comedic hijinks to balance the drama but a little of her goes a long way and Toti Marie you could’ve eliminated… if she didn’t appear in the “sequel”.
Although Four Sisters Before the Wedding” (a title whose meaning becomes clear during the last act of the film, a surprisingly mature and heartfelt conclusion) is kind of Little Women -lite. It also has a bit of a something-something that I could see you latching onto. I’m excited to see what’s next so I imagine anyone who’s seen the “original” will be pleased to get more out of this charming family and the people who surround them. (Original Tagalog with English Subtitles, December 29, 2020)

Fans are the most precious people, celebrities could have. They are the real reason why a star is born and continue to make it big because of their support. They devote time and effort for their idols, but only the responsible ones last.
Nominees are Popsters, Darrenatics, KathNiel, MayWard, JaDine, LizQuen, Kapuso Brigade, and DonKiss.
TV Station of the Year
The way to success is steep, even the roads going there is rough and bumpy at times. Competitions between stations will forever be fierce; each one trying to outwit, outdone any efforts or initiatives for the ratings’ sake. But at the end of the day, only the one who succeeded in impressing the public with an outstanding branding, quality of output, good public relations and even better service do matter the most.
Nominees are ABS-CBN, PTV4, TV5, GMA Network, CNN Philippines, UNTV, ABS-CBN Sports+Action, and GMA News TV.
Radio Station of the Year
Even if the digital platform may have somehow overtaken the radio, still the industry refuses to bend but continue to innovate and strive to put up a good fight and be updated or still stay significant over the years. Nothing beats the spontaneity of listening to the radio. Whether inside the office or at the comfort of your own room or even driving or even walking, radio is still and will always stay as a good companion.
Nominees are MOR 101.9, Love Radio 90.7, YES FM, DWRX Monster Radio 93.1 5, DZMM 630, Barangay LS 97.1, DZBB, and News FM 92.3.
The award seeks to recognize local talents in the entertainment industry, build stronger ties with relevant and like-minded partners, and utilize this as a venue to express LionHearTV.net’s gratitude to everyone who supported the site since its first time to go online.
#RAWRawards2018 would not be made possible without the support of its partners—PLDT Smart and Le Rêve as well as special thanks to the following Lalamove Philippines, Home Credit Philippines, Brother Philippines, CAT PR, Voyager Innovations, CID Communication, Jollibee, Mode Devi, Starbucks Philippines, Akrotiri, Copperazo, Fuentes Manila, and DOJO PR.
To vote for the nominees in their respective categories, log on to lionheartv.net/rawrawards2018. Voting is ongoing and will end on November 4, 11:59PM.
