Saudagar was directed by Subhash Ghai and featured two legendary actors of Hindi cinema, Dilip Kumar and Raaj Kumar, in the lead roles. This was the second time the two actors shared the screen, the first being in the 1959 film Paigham.

The film also marked the debut of Vivek Mushran and Manisha Koirala. It included notable performances by Amrish Puri, Anupam Kher, Dalip Tahil, Gulshan Grover, Dina Pathak, Mukesh Khanna, Deepti Naval, Govind Namdev and Jackie Shroff. The music was composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal, with lyrics by Anand Bakshi.

A Panel I'd Like To See Someone Redraw

This is my favorite panel from The Fifth Beatle (2013) by writer Vivek Tiwary, artist Andrew Robinson, and cartoonist Kyle Baker; despite the fact that the likenesses are not good. It was in development as a movie at the time and later in development as a TV series and I think they may have been trying to split the difference between the real people and some actors in mind for the roles. (Brian Epstein was to be played by Benedict Cumberbatch at one point.)

The scene shows the moment Brian Epstein sees the Beatles onstage for the first and time and they blow his mind. If someone were to redraw this scene as Jimmy Page (and Peter Grant and Chris Dreja, I guess) seeing Robert Plant onstage for the first time, I think that would be just neat.

I'll say it again: Varisu (2023) as a movie sucks. It could have led to deep discussions about toxic family members. Vijay even says it outright how some kith and kin are toxic yet...

Anyway, one of the upsides of this movie was the song, Thee Thalapathy, the tribute song for Vijay's 30 years in the industry!
