He knew the tea was a trap. Or at the very least, that there were strings attached, because Porlyusica had been uncharacteristically vague about why she wanted him to come, but really, he should have seen this coming.

“I’m retiring.”

Acnologia set his tea down slowly. “Didn’t you already retire?” he asked tiredly.

Porlyusica huffed. “I tried to, but those fools of Makarov’s always needed me for something, be it some injury or magic ailment. As Magnolia doesn’t have a competent doctor of its own, I begrudgingly continued as a part-time physician for Fairy Tail. I never intended for this to last, however.”

“What, have you been training an apprentice all this time?” he asked, but it was more of a teasing statement. “I didn’t picture you as the type.”

Her scowl was expected. “Of course not. I don’t have the patience to train some human in my ways. But I don’t have to, now that you’re here.”

The words registered slowly, but he saw where she was going all the same. “No.”

“Acnologia,” Porlyusica scolded. “I know you don’t have the equipment I do, but beyond being a practitioner of healing magic, you are knowledgeable in medicine and ailment, despite pretending not to be.”

“I’m not pretending about anything. I haven’t practiced medicine in…” Shit, how long had it been? It was the 700s now, and it had been the 300s… “—in four hundred years!” It had been strange enough reawakening his healing magic, but that was only a matter of what amounted to muscle memory. Still, the nature of healing magic was simple; it was good for cleaning and closing wounds faster than the body could do on its own—but it only mimicked the body. It wasn’t medicine, or the study thereof. That was much more complicated. Porlyusica knew this. So, when he said he was rusty, he meant it. What little that he’s reviewed through readings barely scratched the surface of it.

Porlyusica could not produce magic, but she could still attempt murder with her eyes. “You’ll learn,” she countered, and it might as well have been an order.

Acnologia was in between a boulder and a canyon. She was persistent, but she was also out of her mind if the woman thought that he magically acquired people skills better than her own. (They were both hopeless.) Not to mention, for the first time in centuries, he was busy. “I understand where you’re coming from, but I can’t do anything full time either. Sure, I help out where I can, but between the emergency S-Class jobs and the kids, I don’t have that kind of time to dedicate. Besides, with my sleep schedule the way it is, somebody is going to die—and I tried re-syncing to a human sleep schedule, believe me: it didn’t work.” It took longer for dragons to reach the resting heartrate of deep sleep, and they stayed in it far longer. Toying with that cycle, back when he was afraid someone was going to totter off of a cliff or starve to death had been…possible, but stressful.

His (very logical) reasons didn’t persuade her. “And you think I dedicate my life for these reckless humans? I’m not asking you to change careers—just to let me retire in peace.”

“Porlyusica,” he argued. “I honestly don’t know as much as you do. Besides, I’m not even licensed anymore.”

He was fine playing medic and healing wounds, but there was something terrifying about truly being a doctor again. He… He couldn’t. Shouldn’t, even.

“If you have questions, ask. I’d much rather deal with you than some human brat,” she countered easily. “And you were licensed, so it wouldn’t be an issue stepping back up.”

“Yes, I was,” he pressed, emphasizing the past tense of it. “Four hundred years ago! Medicine advanced leaps and bounds since then. Not to mention everything I’ve forgotten.”

“Just as much as it devolved. Healing magic isn’t even practiced anymore. It died with dragons, gods, and prideful humans. Time doesn’t matter that much. It’s fleeting anyway.”

Acnologia clenched his teeth, trying not to stare at his palm. Saying he was “licensed” at all was a stretch. Back in the Minstrel region of a few centuries ago, doctors wore a badge—a tattoo on their left palm. It was something that had to be received from another individual with the brand, and nobody knew how the tradition started. He wasn’t even sure if people did that anymore, down there. The title came with the promise to do no harm and to help whenever possible; it was a creed he threw away when he chose violence. It was just as well that when the dragonization process transformed his body from the inside out, it removed that mark along with all of his old scars.

“Porlyusica, please. I get that you want to retire, but I don’t know what you expect from me.”

“To keep living,” she snapped. There was a note of desperation in her voice that Porlyusica rarely let show, so Acnologia wisely shut his mouth. “To be there. Acnologia, you know I’m aging. Quickly, even. I don’t know how much longer this body will last. This world may not be mine, and these humans aren’t my people, but I’m not so callous that I would abandon those sentimental fools that took me in.” Porlyusica sucked in a breath, swiftly turning so she was no longer facing him. “You’re still young. You’re understanding them faster than I ever could. You would be better for them.”

Damn. Acnologia wasn’t sure what he could possibly say to that. He…understood where she was coming from. It was hard enough to manage yourself when everything around you was a new and difficult concept to grasp. Honestly, he was amazed by the fact that he was interacting with people at all—with some understanding, even. Though Porlyusica gave him too much credit in that matter; he never would have managed it without the kids. Turned out, suddenly caring for time-displaced dragon slayer children presented the opportunity to learn things fast. Sometimes, his head was still spinning.

Not that it made him any more comfortable with the idea that Porlyusica presented. However, it was…true, what she said, about lifespans. Acnologia now aged like a dragon, like Porlyusica now aged as a human. Though he wouldn’t label her as about to kick the bucket, no matter how she spoke. It was also true that he was technically around everyone more often; if he was there, he would deal with a situation before somebody had to go get Porlyusica. He was begrudgingly more efficient, and Acnologia never minded until the notion that he really was the first line of medical defense slammed into it.

“Fine,” he relented softly. “But they’ll still have to bother you first in the winter.”

Porlyusica looked far too smug as she finished off her tea.

He…had a lot of reading to do. Acnologia focused on that, and not the unsettling realization that this was somehow…official now. Though, maybe he should be trying to give himself some more credit; if a killer could be trusted to raise kids, then maybe this wasn’t all that different.

One of the reasons I can’t hate the anime is that the bit they added about Acno being a doctor pre-war is just so golden for juicy contrasts and conflicts of character. Also, I know this is not a Frosch piece like I thought, but inspiration came to finish this so at least y’all get something this week.

I am 100% going to just go on rants here because I don't know anyone who has/will watch this show and I've been obsessed with it for years.

But the Acnologia battle. I kinda just find it funny.

Alveraz is probably one of my least fav arcs. Sort of a mix of too many fake out deaths (I can forgive Gajeel's since demon portal and Juvia's is stretching but Makarov's was absolutely just for sad points. Like he was dead for chapters and then he's just back) which absolutely destroyed some of the tension for me and how certain characters just didn't get as much spotlight as I would have liked (*cough* Sabertooth, Oracion seiz and Thunder legion *cough*) also the anime totally skimped on the blood in Larcad and Sting's fight which had me booing at the TV when I watched it.

But the final fight. I think it's good, showing that they can barely even land a scratch on this guy who is way out of their depth is shown perfectly.

I'm not even mad about the power of friendship ending, I just stand by that I would have loved that they all pitch in like a roar or a secret art (perfect opportunity to have Rogue and Cobra use one for the first time)

I have always been confused why they never tried stronger spells though. Like I get conserve power and such but like. You aren't going to use secret arts? Gajeel never used his scales which baffles me because surely that would be a smart decision since it's wildly known that his scales, although affected by other dragon slayers, can at least lower the damage he takes. And why did Sting and Rogue never activate dragon force or use their unison raid. Like this is the guy who wants to kill you and you don't at least try these things once?

I also like the theory that Acno just at that moment destabilised due to the dragon slayers not giving him the power to remain stable but like, why did his body desigrate as well?

Like his soul makes sense but his body? Was that just a weird way of getting around having a giant dragon corpse? Or do all dragons just disintegrate upon death. Or no sorry, that doesn't make sense either because dragon eaters and dragon bones both exist and Laxus and Cobra literally have dragon hearts inside them. Plus Irene didn't disintegrate. The only other dragons that did were the training 5 and that makes sense because they were nothing but souls ripped from their bodies at that point.

I even have a work around for this if you don't want a giant dragon body laying around. Just make it canon that dragon slayers who became dragons revert to their human form upon death. Irene died looking like a human but it's also canon they use magic to transform so you'd think she'd change back but nah, she stays human.

Funny how my biggest problem here is the technique that the slayers used and how Acno just self destructs in the real world. Nothing with the ending or anything.

I don't know if there is anything I've missed since I am doing my best to catch up on 100 year quest. I dropped off around the middle of the whole Alderon part because I just kinda got bored of Team Natsu. I don't hate them but just... I like other characters more. Sorry to Natsu but he's at the bottom of my list of the seven. But then I saw Laxus and Gajeel get brought in and we get Laxus lacrima stuff so I've been trying to catch up to see that. Also God Serena Vs Gajeel sounds awesome like I wanna see that. But if I got anything from that wrong then that's why.

Favorite FT character, huh?

Acno and Gajeel. Firstly, I love their aesthetics. Almost all of Gajeel's outfits give the vibes of a 70s-80s rock singer. I could see him in bands like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, or AC/DC. His singing voice actually reminds me a bit of David Bowie (well, dub Gajeel's does). Acnologia gives the vibes of a suspicious guy who's contemplating your eventual demise.

Acno got so screwed over in the characterization department, man! It seemed like Mashima wasn't really sure what to do with Acnologia, but there was a great opportunity to use his character as a sort of cautionary tale for the Dragonslayers about their powers and how power corrupts. Hell, some myths even use dragons as a way to discourage people from greed or hunger for power (*cough* Fafnir *cough*).

Loved Gajeel's development tho. He's one of FT's better cases of redeemed villains, as it isn't some out of the blue redemption that seems to strip who the character is and Gajeel actually wanted to change. At first it was him trying to improve so that he'd be able to stay in Fairy Tail and then it turned into him wanting to show the others that he's not Gajeel of Phantom Lord but Gajeel of Fairy Tail. This is even shown in his relationship with Levy, the member of FT who should have every reason to hate him but gives him a second chance when he shows that willingness to change. Tbh Gajeel and Jellal do the 'redeemed villain' thing the best in my opinion. Tho if you have any differing opinions, I don't mind hearing them. Those opinions could actually be of great use for me to use as a way to improve my writing, as different people have different takes on things.

Did you know that when Acno's human form was first revealed in the manga people theorized that he and Gajeel were related due to similarities in their character design? Wasn't long lived but was a popular one!

Then can you rewrite Natsu vs Zeref final fight? I'm curious of your perspective.

ugh the thing about natsu vs zeref is that i’d basically rewrite enormous chunks of plot around it to make it something i’d want to see. trying to bend it into canon results in;

(disclaimer; i’m bad at fight writing, so i’m not really going to try.)

round 1; pissed off hardwired-to-kill!natsu vs base!zeref. natsu loses. honestly, natsu might land some blows in that actually hurt now (i imagine natsu breaking one of his arms tbh), zeref is still an incredibly capable mage and eventually restrains natsu after batting him around with some OP spells. zeref would tell him that natsu is now obsolete and has been since tenrou; zeref started crafting a new plan as soon as he realised acnologia was on the move again.

i guess it’s at this point mavis decides to help natsu fight zeref. i think there’s probably a way to tie the curse of contradiction into mavis vs zeref; my initial thought is to make mavis try and use fairy glitter (since it rejects the existence of whomever the caster perceives as an enemy), but have it stall out. while mavis is in shock, zeref claims fairy heart. natsu being what he is, i assume zeref decides to leave him alive or something.

then acno vs zeref, i guess. which i guess consists mostly of fairy heart zeref realising how bad an idea it is to be leaking OP magic and throwing it at a guy that eats all magic… (scroll down to ‘current fight’, i am so sorry i constantly link back to myself but through the power of asks i am slowly rewriting fairy tail chunk by chunk)

after this… i think a natsu vs zeref fight would be pointless. maybe natsu beats him up before realising how pathetic zeref is at this point. can’t use magic because he’s too exhausted; acno drained so much out of him death predation isn’t even activating properly. and, it’s not like he can kill the guy anyway. i’m a little conflicted on how to end zeref’s story; does he die? does he get fairy sphere’d, which is the best he can hope for? does he go to spirit realm jail…? 

…i need to work out what angle i’d even want to write zeref in before answering that question…

FTFI: 100 Years Quest; The THIRD Chapter!

(Be aware: spoilers for the latest chapter of 100 Years Quest, can be found below!)

“Huh, so they’re out at this place that’s close to the water, to find a Water God Dragon...hm.”

Me: (hums to the Inspector Gadget theme song)

“Hey, what are you doing, dressed in that kind of clothing?”

Me: Oh, me? Well, there’s something about the situation in this chapter that isn’t so right...so, I’m going to investigate it, myself!

“You...do realize this is a work of fiction, right?”

Me: Well, where’s the fun in dressing up as a detective, then?

Team Natsu finally sets out on their actual objectives...and things get quite more interesting, than what they initally are!

Now, before I get to this latest chapter itself, here’s a brief recap of what happened in the first two chapters: Team Natsu have set themselves out for the 100-Year Quest...which is exactly what it says on the tin—a quest that hasn’t been completed for 100 years. They’ve travelled to Giritina, where they meet up with the guild master of the oldest guild in the world, Magia Dragon. Said guild master, who can transform between dragon and human, gives them their objective: hunt down all five God Dragons in this continent. 

There’s also another story thread with three new members being introduced into the Fairy Tail guild...one of which, is a young girl who claims to be in love with Natsu—and, yet, she still falls under the suspicions of a couple certain characters, for something else. But, I’ll get to that one, too!

So, let’s get started on chapter #3, here. We find Natsu, and company, at the southern parts of Giltena, trekking across the Valeria Region. From there, they all come across (gasp)...walking, jellyfish-like creatures.

That’s not to say they aren’t dangerous, ‘though. I mean, sure, they may be cute, but they can also be a bit hazardous, if they’re handled without care—just ask Natsu and Lucy. Here’s hoping that no reprecussions can come from that!

Fortunately, Wendy comes to their aid, by blowing away those little gobbers into the air, with her Sky Dragon’s Roar! 

It is after that point, where we get a flashback to the last time we saw all of them, back at Magia Dragon. Erza tells Elefceria that Natsu was the one who defeated Acnologia...even ‘though it wasn’t just Natsu, who defeated him. ;)

Somehow, this surprises the guild master himself, upon realizing this revelation. Things...get a bit more sketchy with him, later on.

Anyway, the narration goes on to elaborate further about this quest. First, it clarifies, by stating that the five God Dragons had nothing to do with the Dragon King Festival that happened 400 years ago. Then, it claims that their existance was kept a secret among only a few members of the Magic Council. Finally, it concludes by explaining that the five dragons are reported to only make a move, when something significant occurs.

When I went through that part, there was something that definitely didn’t add up, right away. Why would there be a quest that involves going after dragons who had no involvement, whatsoever, in the Dragon King Festival...and so, only remained dormant for quite some time? There’s even more inconsistencies with this whole quest, too, based on the fact that Team Natsu weren’t the only ones from the guild, to go on this particular quest. 

Natsu himself wonders of Gildarts taking on Acnologia in the middle of that quest—despite said villainous dragon slayer having no relations with those God Dragons (as he was a participant in that historical event). Further to this, he mentions about the port city that he had to reach first—the same port city that all of Team Natsu are headed towards. It is only when Gray questions about why Gildarts decided to return back home. 

So, I mentioned that things did get more sketchy with Elefceria, too, right? Well, it has something do with the reward he proposed, upon the completion of this quest. In that same flashback, again...as he raises his arms up high, the guild master proclaims that he’ll grant one wish for everybody involved in completing the quest!

Sure, you can laugh at the absurdity of this ‘reward’—and more so, of what each of Team Natsu wants, with the one wish granted to them. However, this only adds to the wild inconsistencies of this guild master, and this quest itself. There is nowhere near that is mentioned in the original story, about Dragon Slayers/Dragon Slaying Magic having the ability to grant anything that one can desire. 

Okay. I’ve just went through first two chapters, again, and I’ve just found out one more thing that makes this whole quest veeery suspect. A single damning thing about this guild master. According to him, he mentions that he had taught Dragon Slayer Magic by himself. However, by my research into this, I can confirm 100% that it is total BS. Chapter 265 of the original manga showed that Dragon Slayer Magic can be learned by only two different  ways: being taught by an actual dragon; or, have a dragon lacrima implanted into their body. To say that he was self-taught in that kind of magic, is as ridiculous, as being self-taught in superb combat strategies (right, Mavis?)!

Sooo...either he’s lying up the ass, or he does have some sort of lacrima put into his body. We’ll know for sure, when this story does pick up. 

Speaking of the port city, Natsu and the gang finally reach Elmina, located south-west of their previous location. They’re there to seek out hints of the first God Dragon, Mercuphobia, who has been worshipped by the city’s inhabitants, in the past.

Meanwhile, back in Magnolia, we see two familiar figures...both who are in trench coats, and fedoras! Honestly, seeing Gajeel and Lily in those outifts really reminds me of this guy...and, this guy, as well!

They’re joined with Gajeel’s old friend in Juvia, who is alongside with his best girl. All of them are in town to investigate one of their newly-introduced guild members, Touka, with good reason. Like before, Touka somehow knew who Briar was—the member of Avatar who was caught a year ago, after she and the others were defeated by Natsu, and his friends. 

While Levy frowns at the idea of suspecting one of their own, Gajeel and Juvia set themselves off to find out the truth!

Look, I get that certain people don’t like the fact that this sub-plot is distracting from the main plot of the story. However, I’m personally okay with this...as long as it actually has something to do with the main plot, later on. I mean, it’s rather interesting to see other characters play a part in the sequel, other than Team Natsu themselves! Wouldn’t you agree with that?

Returning to Elmina, we see the aforementioned group roaming through the streets of this easy-going city, upon first glance. While they’re there, Natsu remarks that the walls of structures are dishevelled—in which Wendy notes that they may be in an old city. 

As they’re trying to find a place to stay around there, we see the final panels of this chapter: a pair of ominous-appearing figures looking down on the entire entourage, from high above. One of them is a lady who’s dressed like Juvia, but a bit more scantily. The other one, is a dude who has horns on his head (just like Seilah, from Tartarus), and facial markings resembling that of a certain Heavenly Body user! The chapter ends, with this fellow being addressed as “Water God-sama”. 

Alright, so who could these people be? Do they have something to do with Touka, and Briar? Maybe...maybe not. Is this guy related to Jellal, in any way? Again, maybe...maybe not. But, based on how this guy is addressed, by this girl observing next to him...I have an uncomfortable feeling that he may just as well be Mercuphobia himself!

This leads me to the Question of the Chapter: How will Team Natsu take on this Water God Dragon? 

We don’t know, for sure, how powerful this drake will be. Personally, I think Natsu and Wendy have more of a chance here, given the fact that they are dragon slayers themselves. Gray can also take on water-based entities, given his experience with one of them (wink wink)...but, he’s a Demon Slayer. The only other way, is if a certain celestial spirit mage ends up helping them to defeat this dragon. 

And, yes, we do get another hint of Aquarius potentially making a return in the sequel, as it was hinted by Lucy, when she thought about what her wish would be. I don’t know...what do you guys think? Leave your thoughts, by clicking on that speech bubble below.

Finally, aside from that, I actually do wonder if these God Dragons had something to do with God Serena himself, in the final arc of the original story. I mean, come to think of it, God Serena is—obviously—a God Dragon Slayer, who used Water Dragon Slaying magic once (albeit, in a lacrima)...prior to him being laid to waste via Acno. Maybe there’s something about it that would be revealed in the next few chapters to come, eh?

Now, what do I think about this chapter, overall? Well, as I mentioned it above, things just really got more interesting...in more than one way. There’s definitely something going on with this quest that makes it more suspicious than ever, and the sub-plot with Gajeel and Lily makes the feeling more the same. We’ll have to wait and see how it all pans out.

They receive a message from godmother Aquarius that bcus she can’t make it she’d sending a different godmother for Lucy.

Turns out to be Ophiuchus

Ophiuchus is not a Good Fairy Godmother.

Takes one look at Lucy, decides she def hates children, and blesses Lucy before telling Layla she’s retiring and fucks off to wherever.

Layla and Aries are horrified that the ‘blessing’ she gave Lucy was Obedience

Lucy grows up having to obey everything people command her to do, which she hates bcus she is strong willed and refuses to be controlled

Only her mother and house fairy know, as Jude is constantly away on buisness and Lucy goes to a v prestigious school where she fits in but doesn’t have many friends.

She meets Cana there, who all the other children mock for being an orphan selected from the orphanage to attend the school in a ‘Goodness Gives Back’ program meant to help less fortunate people children.

Everything is relatively okay until her mother gets sick, and tells Lucy she’s not allowed to tell anyone about her curse, in case they use it against her

spoiler this will cause more trouble that it’ll save cus who would have figured taking away the ability to explain wtf is making you do everything people tell you would be a bad thing  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Jude goes lowkey power hungry after Layla dies, but as Lucy is only 10 he can’t very well marry her off

So after a few years he finds a woman he can stand who comes from a powerful, if shady, family. 

Dimera and her two daughters, Kyoka and Seliah, move in and essentially take over. They push Lucy around command her to do humiliating chores. 

Seliah decides that Lucy has too many pretty dresses and commands her to burn them.

It doesn’t take long for the girls to work out Lucy’s curse, and Dimera doesn’t care enough about Lucy to pay attention to her other than to beat her when angry

(it’s just gotten darker than the movie whoops lmao) 

Jude doesn’t love Dimera and so continues to be out and trying to gain more power, including trying to sell marry off Lucy to the highest bidder.

Anyway  

Natsu is the Prince of the kingdom of Alveraz, but he only wants to go on adventures and doesn’t really care about his duties.

His brother Zeref is King after Natsu’s father Igneel was killed. Zeref is Natsu’s half brother from a different father before Natsu’s mom married Igneel.

Both go missing in an attack by the giants and ogres when Natsu was 8

LOL no Zeref orchestrated their deaths it with the help of shapeshifter Acnologia, but afterwards Acno wanted control of the throne and Zeref trapped him in a lizard body. 

He can talk, but doesn’t tell anyone in hopes of one day being able to kill Zeref, but right now they have a hateful truce and are passive aggressive to one another in the Worst way

Zeref went power crazed idk he’s just an ass. Igneel put too many restrictions on him

But yeah, parents are ded

Natsu is hoping Igneel is still out there somewhere but they found mother’s body

Natsu knows like none of this

All of the aristocrats are obsessed with Natsu bcus Zeref refuses to marry and so he’s the next best in to the power of the kingdom

This includes Seliah and Kyoka 

Mainly Kyoka that chick is obsessed with Zeref dear jesus

They run into one another when Lucy is trying to find a quiet spot to write where her sisters won’t find her and Natsu is trying to escape his guards/fans/everyone cus he just wants to check out the forest god da m n

Lucy hates how unfairly the kingdom treats elves/ogres/giants, and thus immediately dislikes Natsu, who instantly loves that Lucy isn’t throwing herself at him.

They talk/bicker a bit until Lucy has to run off

Natsu wants to see his new friend again soon and Kyoka wants to murder Lucy

You know what before this gets too long I’m just going to call this Part One and call it a day. More soon cus it won’t leave my bloody head :D

The Fish Debate

 “You are all weird.”

“We’re weird? No, you’re weird!”

“No, you are. Maybe not Sting. He makes sense.”

“Yeah I do!”

“Fine, Sting likes his food boring—”

“Hey!”

“—but you’re still weird. How are you not sick?”

“I’m a cat.”

Acnologia was well used to the odd and sometimes heated discussions the kids could get into. Which was fine. They had a lot of energy, and it was better than using that energy to burn down the house or knock holes into the guild hall. However, he also learned that he could quickly get wrapped into them if he wasn’t careful.

That being said, there was a fire outside, and he was still jumpy after that pine tree combusted last week, so he went to investigate anyway.

“I’m not in the kitchen,” Natsu quickly defended when Acnologia approached them. He could see now that Natsu, Rogue, Sting, and Happy were cooking fish over a fire (which was at least well maintained, so Natsu was getting better at that). Whether they were choosing the outdoor method because it was easier for them, more fun, or because they weren’t allowed unsupervised in the kitchen (Acnologia was tired of fixing busted appliance-lacrimas and putting out grease fires) he didn’t know. They seemed to be well maintained now, other than the fact that Natsu and Rogue were both doing horrendous things to their fish.

“I know,” he responded loosely, still suspicious. As long as they weren’t setting the forest on fire, it was fine.

“Natsu was teaching us how to make campfires,” Rogue explained. “For jobs.”

“And fishing,” Sting added. Acnologia guessed that the focus became on fishing, based on the amount of fish they had.

That seemed reasonable. Odd, maybe, but reasonable. It was a good skill to have, and he supposed that Natsu could build a fire without magic for elemental consumption purposes. “Okay.”

Satisfied that the situation didn’t seem to need adult intervention (he would still pay attention from a distance just to be sure), Acno turned to leave, but Happy stopped him.

“Acno, can you try my fish?” he asked, and Acnologia found himself looking into Happy’s pleading toddler eyes and unable to deny him. Especially since the fish didn’t look charred to the abyss like Natsu’s and Rogue’s.

“Okay,” he relented, accepting the offering and taking a bite. It wouldn’t hurt anyway. He had a feeling they were arguing over something of this sort, and this was probably dragging him into it—their intent stares all confirmed this—but he had yet to figure out what it was.

Whatever. It tasted fine. He used to not fish often—there weren’t as many high up in the mountains—but ever since taking in Natsu and Happy (namely Happy) he had become re-familiar with them. At least fish didn’t change all that much in four hundred years. “Trout?” he guessed, unsure of what the children wanted from him.

Happy was overjoyed, however, bouncing and waving his paws, while the others looked at him with some undiscernible emotion. “See! See! Acno likes it!”

What was he somehow agreeing to? “I like what?” he asked tiredly.

Happy blinked up at him innocently, though there was a hint of mischief there too. “Raw fish.”

“Raw—? Oh.”

Acnologia realized that the fish wasn’t cooked at all—it was likely just pulled out of the river. That was probably why the kids were staring at him oddly, because he normally cooked food when he was around them. He did typically cook his food… Except sometimes he didn’t. It was troublesome as a dragon and unnecessary. Had he really not noticed?

Well, he noticed the bones. Those were annoying.

“How?” Sting asked, as Natsu and Rogue made some expressions that were a mix between curious and horrified.

“I thought people couldn’t do that,” Rogue asked. And the last thing Acnologia needed was Rogue thinking it was okay to eat raw meat, because dragon slayers weren’t immune to food poisoning.

The reason felt lame though. “…because I’m a dragon.”

(And then they called him ��Big Happy’ for at least two weeks following.)

Kids do the kid-shenanigans, and Acno is not the best human role model. Not the the slayers are purely human. But they’re more-so than he is. (Otherwise known as one of the few moments Acno and Happy are alike, and nobody lets him live it down.)
