FAQ
Q: Is his name Jimmy or Pickles?
A: His full name is James (Jimmy) "Piccolo (Pickles)" Hoffa. It's just more fun to call him Pickles.
Q: What is he?
A: Just a little boy.
Q: What breed is he?
A: "Blue Point Lykoi". Lykoi is a very broad term - both of his parents were fully haired, but Jimmy is expressing the lack of undercoat phenotype. Some of his siblings have even less hair, some have full hair.
Q: What does he feel like?
A: Somewhere between a normal cat and the Platypus Webkinz.
Q: Does he have skin problems?
A: All hairless / partially haired cats have unique needs. Lykoi, and Sphinx cats especially, are prone to acne, and require regular bathing. The less hair they have, the less they can diffuse oils over their coat. Pickles is bathed regularly and is healthy.
Lykoi and Sphinx can also be susceptible to sunburn, but despite what the packaging may say, there is no such thing as completely pet-safe sunscreen. Our solution is his funny outfits.
Q: Is he declawed?
A: No.
Q: What’s on his collar?
A: An airtag, just in case he escapes the house. We don’t let him outside without a harness, but he has been known to door dash.

Hi everyone. This is a very old post, but it's blown up again recently. I actually haven't worked for Kiehl's for almost a year now, but the knowledge I learned about skincare products has stayed with me, and I want to come in again to follow up with the very common comments and FAQs this post has gotten:
1. "What is the oil controlling moisturizer that mattifies?" The Kiehl's Oil Eliminator 24-hour Moisturizer in the men's section. I will warn you that it won't stand up to Sahara-level dryness, but there is also a toner in the same line if you need the same results with a more hardcore moisturizer to put on top of it. The toner can also be used as a setting spray if you like wearing makeup.
2. "Don't buy all these products just use the men's 5-in-1's!" I can not tell you hard enough how much you Should Not Use Multiple-in-1's. The basic chemistry of it just does not work. You can't make shampoo also be conditioner, or also be body wash, or also be face wash. They have completely different chemical makeups for a reason and if you try to add others you create a weird concoction of sludge that does barely anything. It might wash and moisturize your hair a LITTLE BIT but nowhere near the amount you need it to to have any real effect. And there is a real reason why body and fash wash are separate, it's not capitalism. The skin on your body is a lot thicker and more oily than the comparatively thin and dry skin on your face, do not use body wash on your face. And shampoo needs to be a LOT more stripping to clean hair, which is basically a pile of really thin dead keratin strands that trap dust and grime like its their job. Keratin can stand up to that much, your skin can't. Don't buy multiples.
3. "Don't buy from beauty stores, just get the cheap shit at walmart" once again, I can not stress enough that you Should Not Do That if you don't have a working knowledge of how ingredients work in skincare products. The reason those products are cheap is often because they use really cheap and often irritating, acne-causing, and environmentally disgusting binding ingredients over the responsibly-sourced and gentle ones. You can absolutely find cheaper products in department stores that will do the same thing if not more for you than what you get in Sephora, but don't play with fire if you don't know WHY it's so cheap. Even things as simple as squalane could cost 60 dollars somewhere and 12 in a walmart, and it's because cheap squalane is sourced from hunted shark fins, while the expensive stuff is from olives. You can already see the difference in why you shouldn't just assume cheaper is the same and I haven't even mentioned skin effects.
4. "Scents/parabens/sulfates are always bad" not necessarily. Not all added scents or parabens or sulfates are made equally. If you have really oil-capturing hair and work a grimey job, you're gonna need a shampoo with sulfates in it or you wont get it all off, for example. It really depends on what type it is and what your lifestyle and individual needs are. Don't villainize a whole group of ingredients just because they aren't good for a generalized group of people.
Also yes, anti-aging is a scam. BUT a lot of "anti-aging" products are good for other things. Retinol serums are a genuine godsend for people with persistent acne that is otherwise resistant to treatment.
Being the only guy who works in a beauty store is fucking hilarious sometimes. Im the only one who can sell our shitty beard shampoo and a not insignificant amount of our customers think im untrustworthy. According to my coworkers i use every mens product we have so they can get dudes to buy a shaving cream. Trying to explain to people that theres no difference between "men's" and "women's" products is like talking to a brick wall. Ive had multiple women get angry with me for sampling them out one of our "men's" moisturizers when they specifically said they wanted a mattifying one to control oil and that's the best one we have for those two things. I still think about the guy who came in asking if we had "masks for men." I contemplate ending it all every time someone returns a completely unused product that they absolutely refuse to try just because it either says or doesnt say "for men" on it. 90% of the time its the perfect product for them. I had a lady who was willing to buy a worse product for her needs that was more expensive just so it wouldnt say it was for men. Are you ever tired? Are you ever exhausted? These are the same kinds of people who say that im the one whos obsessed with gendering everything because im trans.

Natural Skin Care Routine: Quick Start Guide
A natural skin care routine uses ingredients without harmful chemicals.
Cleansing, exfoliating, and moisturizing are the core steps.
Natural oils and plant-based products nourish and protect the skin.
Simple, consistent routines lead to healthier skin.
Patch testing prevents potential skin reactions.
Introduction
Natural skin care focuses on using ingredients from nature that are free from synthetic additives.
These products are typically gentler on the skin and offer long-term benefits without the risk of irritation that can come from harsh chemicals.
This guide outlines a simple, natural routine that anyone can follow for healthier, more radiant skin.
Core Steps in a Natural Skin Care Routine
Cleansing
Cleansing is the first step in any skin care routine. It removes dirt, oil, and impurities that accumulate on the skin throughout the day.
A gentle, natural cleanser—like honey or coconut oil—cleanses without stripping the skin of its natural oils, leaving it clean but still hydrated.
Exfoliating
Exfoliation helps to remove dead skin cells that can clog pores and cause dullness. Natural exfoliants like sugar, oatmeal, or ground coffee provide gentle exfoliation without causing micro-tears or irritation.
Exfoliating 1-2 times a week keeps the skin smooth and fresh.
Toning
A toner helps to balance the skin’s pH and tighten pores. Natural toners such as witch hazel or rose water are excellent choices as they soothe the skin while preparing it to absorb moisturizers better.
Moisturizing
Moisturizing is essential to keep the skin hydrated and protected. Natural moisturizers like shea butter, jojoba oil, or aloe vera deliver deep hydration and lock in moisture.
These ingredients nourish the skin, helping to maintain its elasticity and softness.
Sun Protection
Even with a natural skin care routine, protecting your skin from the sun is critical. Natural sunscreens with zinc oxide provide effective protection without harmful chemicals, guarding against premature aging and sun damage.
Specialized Treatments
Acne-Prone Skin
For acne-prone skin, natural ingredients like tea tree oil or clay masks can help manage breakouts. These ingredients have antibacterial properties that can reduce inflammation and clear pores without over-drying the skin.
Anti-Aging
Natural anti-aging ingredients include vitamin C, plant-based retinol alternatives, and hyaluronic acid. These help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improve skin texture, and boost elasticity over time.
Sensitive Skin
Sensitive skin benefits from hypoallergenic, fragrance-free natural products. Ingredients such as chamomile, calendula, or oat extract can calm irritation and reduce redness, making them ideal for easily irritated skin.
Additional Natural Skin Care Tips
Patch Testing New Products
Before applying a new product to your face, it’s important to patch test. Apply a small amount of the product to a discreet area of your skin, like the inside of your wrist, and wait 24 hours to see if any reaction occurs.
This simple step can prevent potential irritation or allergic reactions.
Consistency and Patience
Consistency is key in any skin care routine. Natural products may take time to show results, but with regular use, they can lead to significant improvements in skin health.
Patience is important, as natural ingredients work with your skin’s natural processes rather than providing quick fixes.
Conclusion
A natural skin care routine offers a gentle and effective way to care for your skin. By using simple, plant-based ingredients, you can achieve a healthy, glowing complexion while avoiding the potential harm from synthetic chemicals. Stick with your routine, and over time, you’ll likely see noticeable improvements in your skin’s health and appearance.

PCOS and Skin Problems: Acne, Dark Patches, and How to Treat Them
What is PCOS and How Does It Affect the Skin?
PCOS, or Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, is a common hormonal issue that affects women during their reproductive years. One of the lesser-known but impactful symptoms of PCOS is the effect it has on the skin. Women with PCOS often experience acne, dark patches (known as acanthosis nigricans), and other skin issues due to the hormonal imbalances caused by the condition.
PCOS causes an overproduction of androgens (male hormones), which leads to excess oil production, clogged pores, and in turn, acne. In addition, insulin resistance, which is also associated with PCOS, can cause dark, velvety patches to form on the skin, particularly in areas like the neck, armpits, and groin.
How Does PCOS Lead to Skin Problems?
Understanding why PCOS causes these skin issues is crucial for effective treatment. Let’s take a closer look at how PCOS affects the skin:
1. Acne from PCOS
Acne is one of the most common skin problems caused by PCOS. Elevated androgen levels cause the sebaceous glands to produce more oil, leading to clogged pores and bacterial growth. This results in acne, which can be severe and persistent, particularly around the jawline and chin.
2. Dark Patches (Acanthosis Nigricans)
PCOS often leads to insulin resistance, which means the body doesn't use insulin effectively. High levels of insulin can stimulate the skin cells to grow faster, causing dark patches to form, particularly in areas like the neck, underarms, and groin. These patches may feel velvety and thick to the touch.
The Importance of Treating PCOS-Related Skin Problems
PCOS-related skin problems are not just cosmetic; they often indicate underlying health issues such as hormonal imbalance and insulin resistance. Treating these symptoms is important for improving both your appearance and overall health.
Why Should You Seek Treatment?
Prevent Scarring: Acne caused by PCOS can leave long-term scars if not treated properly. Early intervention can help prevent permanent skin damage.
Manage Insulin Resistance: Dark patches of skin indicate insulin resistance, which can lead to more serious health issues like type 2 diabetes if not addressed.
Improve Self-Confidence: Skin issues can impact self-esteem and confidence. Addressing PCOS-related acne and dark patches can improve both physical and mental well-being.
How to Treat PCOS-Related Skin Problems
Effective management of PCOS-related skin problems requires a combination of lifestyle changes, medical treatments, and skincare routines. Here’s a step-by-step approach:
1. Consult a Specialist
The first step is to consult a specialist who understands the intricacies of PCOS and how it affects the skin. A gynecologist or dermatologist can help create a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs. Online consultations make it easy to get expert advice. Online obstetrics gynecologists consultations in India offer the convenience of discussing your symptoms and getting a diagnosis without leaving your home.
2. Medications
To treat acne caused by PCOS, doctors often prescribe medications that regulate hormone levels. For dark patches, topical treatments with ingredients like retinoids or salicylic acid may help reduce pigmentation.
3. Lifestyle Changes
Making lifestyle changes is essential to managing PCOS. These include:
Dietary Changes: Eating a balanced diet low in sugar and refined carbs can improve insulin sensitivity and reduce acne flare-ups.
Exercise: Regular physical activity helps balance hormones and manage weight, reducing insulin resistance.
Skin Care Routine: Using non-comedogenic, oil-free products can help manage acne.
4. Full Body Checkups
Keeping track of your overall health with a top full body checkup in India is essential for monitoring PCOS symptoms. Regular checkups can help detect any changes in hormone levels or insulin resistance, allowing for early intervention.

How to Choose Sunscreen for Indian Skin
Introduction
Sunscreen is an essential part of any skincare routine, yet it's often overlooked, especially in countries like India, where many people underestimate the sun's effects on their skin. With the unique characteristics of Indian skin, choosing the right sunscreen can be a game-changer for your skin’s health and appearance. In this article, we'll dive into everything you need to know to choose the best sunscreen for Indian skin.
Understanding Sunscreen Basics
What is Sunscreen?
Sunscreen is a skincare product that helps protect your skin from the harmful effects of the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays. It acts as a barrier, preventing these rays from penetrating your skin and causing damage.
How Sunscreen Works
Sunscreen works by either absorbing or reflecting the sun's UV rays. There are two main types of sunscreen: physical (or mineral) and chemical. Physical sunscreens contain ingredients like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, which sit on top of the skin and reflect UV rays. Chemical sunscreens, on the other hand, absorb UV rays and convert them into heat, which is then released from the skin.
Key Considerations for Indian Skin
Understanding Melanin and Its Impact
Melanin is the pigment responsible for the color of your skin. Indian skin generally has more melanin, which offers some natural protection against the sun but also makes the skin more prone to hyperpigmentation and tanning.
Common Skin Concerns for Indians
Indian skin is often prone to issues like hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone, and tanning. Therefore, choosing a sunscreen that addresses these concerns is crucial.
Importance of SPF for Indian Skin
SPF, or Sun Protection Factor, indicates how well a sunscreen can protect your skin from UVB rays, which are the primary cause of sunburn and skin damage. For Indian skin, a sunscreen with at least SPF 30 is recommended, but SPF 50 is often ideal, especially in harsh sun conditions.
Choosing the Right SPF
What Does SPF Mean?
SPF measures how long your skin can be exposed to the sun without getting burned compared to unprotected skin. For example, if your skin would normally start to burn after 10 minutes in the sun, SPF 30 would theoretically allow you to stay in the sun for 300 minutes without burning.
SPF 30 vs. SPF 50: Which is Better?
While both SPF 30 and SPF 50 offer significant protection, SPF 50 offers slightly more protection against UVB rays. However, no sunscreen can block 100% of UV rays, so higher SPF isn't always better, especially if it leads to a false sense of security.
Is Higher SPF Always Better?
Not necessarily. Higher SPF sunscreens can be thicker and may cause breakouts in some skin types. It's important to choose a sunscreen that balances protection with comfort and wearability.
Sunscreen Ingredients to Look For
Best Ingredients for Indian Skin
Look for sunscreens that contain ingredients like zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, and avobenzone, which provide broad-spectrum protection. Additionally, ingredients like niacinamide can help soothe the skin and prevent hyperpigmentation.
Ingredients to Avoid
Avoid sunscreens with alcohol, fragrance, or certain chemical filters like oxybenzone, which can cause irritation or allergic reactions, especially on sensitive skin.
Role of Antioxidants in Sunscreen
Antioxidants like Vitamin C and E can enhance the effectiveness of sunscreen by neutralizing free radicals caused by UV exposure. Sunscreens with added antioxidants can offer extra protection against skin damage.
Types of Sunscreen for Different Skin Types
Sunscreen for Oily Skin
For oily skin, gel-based or water-based sunscreens are ideal. They are lightweight, non-greasy, and won't clog pores.
Sunscreen for Dry Skin
Dry skin benefits from sunscreen lotions that are hydrating and contain moisturizing ingredients like hyaluronic acid or glycerin.
Sunscreen for Sensitive Skin
Sensitive skin requires sunscreens with minimal ingredients, avoiding fragrances and harsh chemicals. Physical sunscreens are often better for sensitive skin as they are less likely to cause irritation.
Best Sunscreen Formulations
Lotion
Sunscreen lotions are versatile and work well for all skin types. They are easy to apply and provide even coverage.
Gel
Gel sunscreens are best for oily or acne-prone skin. They absorb quickly without leaving a greasy residue.
Spray
Spray sunscreens are convenient for quick application and reapplication, especially on larger areas like the body.
Stick
Stick sunscreens are great for on-the-go touch-ups and are particularly useful for areas like the face, ears, and lips.
Sunscreen Recommendations Based on Skin Type
Best Sunscreen Lotion in India for Oily Skin
One of the top recommendations is the Neutrogena UltraSheer Dry-Touch Sunscreen SPF 50 +. It's lightweight, non-comedogenic, and provides a matte finish, making it perfect for oily skin.
Best Sunscreen for Dry Skin
The Cetaphil Sun SPF 50+ Light Gel is a good choice for dry skin. It’s moisturizing without being greasy and offers broad-spectrum protection.
Best Sunscreen for Combination Skin
For combination skin, the Lotus Herbals Safe Sun UV Screen Matte Gel SPF 50 works well as it controls oil without drying out the skin.
Application Tips for Sunscreen
How Much Sunscreen to Apply
A common mistake is not applying enough sunscreen. A good rule of thumb is to use about a teaspoon of sunscreen for your face and neck and a shot glass worth for your entire body.
When to Apply Sunscreen
Apply sunscreen 15-30 minutes before sun exposure to allow it to fully absorb and start working.
Reapplying Sunscreen: How Often?
Reapply sunscreen every two hours, or more frequently if you're swimming or sweating. Even water-resistant sunscreens need reapplication after water exposure.
Common Sunscreen Mistakes to Avoid
Not Applying Enough
Using too little sunscreen significantly reduces its effectiveness. Ensure you apply enough to cover all exposed areas.
Missing Key Areas
Commonly missed areas include the ears, neck, and the tops of your feet. Make sure to cover these spots to avoid sun damage.
Not Reapplying After Swimming or Sweating
Even if your sunscreen is water-resistant, it’s essential to reapply

Zinc Supplements: Risks and Dangers
Zinc supports immunity, wound healing, and cell growth.
High zinc supplement doses can cause health problems.
Always consult a healthcare provider before taking zinc supplements.
Animal-based foods are the best sources of zinc.
Zinc deficiency is rare with a meat-based diet.
Introduction
Zinc is an important mineral that plays various roles in maintaining health. A balanced diet provides all the zinc your body needs, along with other nutrients that work together harmoniously.
What is Zinc?
Zinc is a trace mineral that supports many vital functions in the body, including immune response, skin repair, and hormone production.
The body only needs zinc in small amounts, and these can be easily met through a diet that includes a variety of zinc-rich foods.
Health Benefits of Zinc
Immune Support
Zinc helps strengthen the immune system, enabling the body to fight off infections more effectively.
Obtaining zinc through natural food sources ensures your immune system gets the support it needs without the risks that come with excessive supplementation.
Skin Health
Zinc is beneficial for maintaining healthy skin, promoting wound healing, and reducing acne. Foods high in zinc, like meats and seeds, naturally contribute to better skin health without the potential side effects of supplements.
Hormonal Balance
Zinc is important for hormone regulation, particularly testosterone, and helps maintain overall hormonal health.
Getting zinc from food ensures that hormonal balance is achieved safely, without disrupting other essential minerals like copper.
Cognitive Function
Zinc is involved in brain health, influencing memory and learning. It supports cognitive function effectively, avoiding the dangers of high-dose supplements.
Reproductive Health
Zinc is essential for reproductive health and fertility in both men and women. Natural food sources of zinc provide a safe and effective way to support reproductive functions without the complications that can arise from supplement use.
Zinc-Rich Foods
Animal-Based Sources
Red meat (beef, lamb)
Shellfish (oysters, crab, lobster)
Poultry (chicken, turkey)
Dairy products (cheese, milk)
Plant-Based Sources
Seeds (pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds)
Nuts (cashews, almonds)
Legumes (chickpeas, lentils)
Whole grains (quinoa, oatmeal)
Dangers of Zinc Supplements
Interference with Copper
Metallothioneins are proteins in your body that help manage the levels of metals like zinc and copper. These proteins can store zinc and release it when needed. They also help protect your cells from damage by metals.
When you have too much zinc, metallothioneins get busy storing it. But here’s the problem: these proteins also grab onto copper, trapping it inside your cells and making it unavailable for your body to use.
If you keep taking in too much zinc, it can cause a copper deficiency because your body isn’t getting the copper it needs. This deficiency can lead to problems like anemia (low red blood cell count), weakness, and even issues with your nerves.
Copper is important for cardiovascular health, brain function, and the immune system. Zinc levels are best maintained through a well-rounded diet rather than supplements.
Potential Side Effects
Excessive zinc intake from supplements can cause nausea, stomach upset, and, over time, more serious health problems such as immune dysfunction and lowered HDL cholesterol.
High levels of zinc can also suppress immune function rather than enhance it, which defeats the purpose of taking zinc supplements in the first place.
Conclusion
Zinc is beneficial for many aspects of health, but the safest way to meet your zinc needs is through a balanced diet rich in zinc-containing foods. Avoiding zinc supplements helps prevent the risk of disrupting copper levels and other potential health issues, ensuring that your body functions optimally.
FAQs
Why should I avoid zinc supplements?
Zinc supplements can interfere with copper absorption, leading to a deficiency in this essential mineral. The risks associated with supplementation often outweigh the potential benefits, especially when zinc can be easily obtained from food.
What are the best food sources of zinc?
Excellent sources of zinc include red meat, shellfish, seeds, and nuts. A varied diet that includes these foods will help you meet your zinc needs naturally.
How does zinc affect copper levels?
Zinc and copper compete for absorption in the body. High levels of zinc from supplements can reduce copper absorption, leading to a deficiency that can cause serious health issues.
What are the first signs of zinc deficiency?
Poor immune response, hair loss, and slow healing are early indicators.
