If I visit an estate sale, I always look for the home office. Last weekend, and basically every weekend for a long time to come, I helped my wife's family (aka my family) with her uncle's estate. It's a LOT to sift through, but it remains interesting and rewarding. The time spent with others is lovely. We go through things, we find things, we talk about them, we throw away things, and marvel at life.  

Yesterday I found something I was very excited about: a vintage Ace Fastener brand Aceliner stapler. There was a period where I was kind of obsessed with finding one. You can buy them on eBay very easily, and they aren't that expensive, but given that they were made in Chicago, I felt like I should be able to find one in the wild eventually. Jen's uncle had one right on his desk, but it was tucked away behind some stuff so I didn't see it until yesterday. The hard plastic has a couple little cracks, but it's still a beauty. These have a great hefty design and they swing all the way open so you can use them for tacking up flyers on cork boards if necessary. Really happy to be giving this a new home and extended life.

Aceliner 502 by ACE, circa 1970s-90s. This model was produced almost unchanged from 1948 to the early 2000s, according to American Stationer:

I cannot believe I was unfamiliar with this stapler until yesterday!

So, most of you may not know this about me, but for some time now a mutual of mine has been tagging posts for me with "stapler boy." Recently that tag was changed to "stapler boyfriend" because because gay reasons, but that still doesn't explain the origin of that tag.

One of my several hyperfixations is staplers, especially vintage ones, and I used to talk about them a lot around my then future boyfriend. You know, like any good neurodivergent with a crush on someone does. Around the time we started actually doing anything serious with each other he got me this one:

It's a Swingline 747 (the best one they ever made) done up in a slate blue with a custom PepsiCo plate on top, how cool is that‽ I get a little bit gayer inside each time I use it on anything.

I'm always on the lookout for new additions, too. Just today I found this cherry Swingline number 13 at the thrift store.

It was patented in 1938! (Although this one was likely produced in the 1960s or later)

So yeah, my weird special interest in vintage office equipment is the reason my boyfriend tags things for me like that.

New Teacher on Campus

Running a hand through his curls, Acelin took a look around his new office. It was a good size, enough for some comfortable chairs and a couple of bookcases that were already crammed full of various science texts. He'd put posters of fractals and other naturally occurring shape patterns up on the walls, and there was a dock for his phone. Right now, the phone was playing Einaudi as he sat at his desk with a lesson planner, laptop open.

There was a knock on the door, and he looked up with a smile for the man standing in the doorway. "Hi...sorry, is the music bothering you? I can turn it off," he offered, reaching towards his phone.

Acelin asked, this time his plea rehearsed against every excuse he'd taken in hopes for a remedy for every push and pull. "What is it this time? What do I have to do to get you to promise to stay, and mean it?"

Though he’d done little more than complain, Ace couldn’t help but smile wider, resting her chin on his shoulder. She’d asked, after all - And even past that, the fact he’d been so vocal with him problems told her exactly one thing: He trusted her with them. He didn’t mind venting to her, trusted her to hear him out and possible help with his problems, and that he was letting her touch him as she was... It was enough to leave her comforted and warm, peering at his work from her ‘perch’.

She’d always loved his designs. Kaveh was nothing short of a genius when it came to making something beautiful and yet still retain its practicality, safety, and usefulness, and this looked to be no different, sapphire eyes slowly skimming over the blueprints laid out. There was still much about them she didn’t understand - she was a vision researcher, not an architect, and being married to one who tried to teach her the technical aspects from time to time didn’t mean she could pick up on it overnight, as much as she’d have loved to - but one thing was for certain: They would take time, and his clients needed to let him work.

“Then we’ll have to remind them of that,” Aceline finally noted, letting her fingers curl against his stomach in a lazy, hopefully relaxing scratch. “If they’re being picky, we’ll just have to find the design that blows them away and reminds them of why these things take time. Even past that, they need to be reminded the safety of those using the port is paramount, as well, and you’re the best for the job in both regards. We’ll just have to grant them the patience to see things through properly.”

We. As long as she’d known him, Aceline had never let Kaveh stand alone - Especially when he was frustrated like he was, regardless of how well she could wrap her mind around whatever bothered him. If his clients wouldn’t give him the time to create what they needed, why would she not take the time from her own research to face them with him and vouch for his work? If she could catch an argument or a point he missed, then didn’t that prove two heads were better than one?

A tilt of her head nuzzled her cheek against his, a content hum to follow. “What you have already is beautiful, you know. Your designs never fail to be so.”

He was nervous. Why the hell was he nervous? It was his idea in the first place to have this dinner party-slash-play date, and so Zeke should have full well known what the expectations were and how to meet them. And he thought he'd done that: It was a potluck of food and games, so each parent had to provide something to eat and something (or two) to play.

He'd brought kimbap, a Korean-style sushi, and tteokbokki, a delicious wild card of spicy rice cakes. They were the only things he knew how to make and Yumi's favorite, so he thought she'd have fun sharing some of her culture with Julia. In hindsight, he should've had one of his sisters make something; he was very nervous that they wouldn't be good or that Ace wouldn't like them.

As for games, he brought Candyland and a special version of Uno for the kids, and a quick, Dungeons and Dragons-like game for him and Ace to share if he wanted to play something. The night was built to be a fun one, but Zeke was still overworried that they wouldn't have fun.

Nevertheless, he rang the doorbell to Ace and Julia's home and waited patiently on the doorstep alongside Yumi.

How did that rumour begin?

So,,, there are layers to it. To begin with, the closest thing Eileen had to a friend was Acelin Rosier (Pandora's father). They were in the same house and year and that's how they got to properly know each other. Acelin is also,,,, not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

A guy that Eileen actually sleeps with kinda brags about it a bit, except he adds a load of shit they didn't actually do to sound cool. Someone else, knowing Eileen hangs around Acelin asks him whether or not it's true and he essentially goes "no that's not true, but this lesser sexual behaviour is" and it just kinda keeps getting worse after that,,,,
