If they knew each other before they were spies and transitioned, how long did it take them to recognize each other after the fact? Did it take several fights before they realized "wait, this spy seems familiar..." or was it as soon as they saw each other?

Due to the memory damage obtained via training, both could only vaguely remember their "lost" lover.

There would have definitely been some underlying sense of recognition (and attraction!) upon their first interaction as spies, but in a "this man seems awfully familiar but I swear I've never met him before" sort of way.

Starting medical transition after separation, neither spy looks exactly as he had prior.

Despite their memories becoming severely blurred, little details stand out to them as something they distinctly recall about their "dead" partners. i.e. certain mannerisms, phrases, and subtle physical features. This would include things they picked up from each other, that not many others would know about

They both would certainly take note of every time they get a feeling of familiarity. The thought of him actually being his partner, who miraculously survived, would cross each of their minds often, but they would try to shrug it off as impossible...

How could it be that the man who was killed by the enemy faction was not only still alive but, in fact, working for said faction??

This only intensifies once they finally become romantically/intimately involved again. They remind each other of their dead lover more than they thought they could even remember.

It would probably get to a point at which the potential of their lover's survival has a stronger liklihood than for everything to just be coinicidental. They'd find themselves faced with the chocie to either continue living in denial or confront the other about it.

After their realization, each recognize that the other looks more like himself than ever before... They've grown into themselves, but the feelings of inadequacy and gender dysphoria have been replaced with their current situation on opposing sides of a war.

They would be left questioning themselves... one of the driving factors for joining their respective factions... was built on a defunct assumption. Biases shaped by being fed propaganda and brainwashing aside, they would feel... stuck. Talks of mutual defection would begin to arise.

You know, no matter how insane ace attorney gets, I still don’t think they’ll top the first game in terms of sheer “??????” factor. Moving space centers and magic bracelets and made up countries and the chess dimensions are great and silly and all that, but never, EVER has an ace attorney plot point astounded me more than “ghosts are undoubtedly real but we can’t use their testimony in court because we think one of them committed perjury”

Tage to the rescue!! To answer the one person who asked if they would get to share the devil fruit power, hopefully this answers that :) only the first person who takes a bite of the fruit gets the power, so only Ace would drown in water.

So remember when I said this would be a 2 parter?? it’s now panning out to look a bit more like 3 or 4 parts maybe. Originally this was planned to be 10 pages but even with the hiatus I couldn’t finish coloring on time so you get the first half for now and the next half next week :) I think I have like,,, 35 tracked hours on this chapter now lmao

But since I’ve got lineart for the next half already done hopefully next week’s chapter will go quickly and I can build a small buffer and start to work on the week after. Do have some other AUs and thoughts in the works other than this comic but also internship has begun so it is back to the grind again until August

I will try my best to keep this updated weekly but depending on motivation and time I might have to start doing biweekly updates if I want to work on other art as well :/ but I’ll keep you guys posted! Thanks for your patience!!

Sorry to ask this, but someone has previously tattooed the spies kissing on themselves?? Is that what I'm getting from your previous ask? I'm so curious. I have to see this. I couldn't find anything when i looked up the name, and the curiosity is quite literally killing me. Is there an image of the tattoo?

I don't actively follow him, but Anthony Fantano (Theneedledrop on YouTube) has a tattoo of the spies in the pose used for the Complete Casebook/Omnibus, altered to make them kiss. Below are screenshots from the tattoo artist's Instagram page:

The original pose is somewhat common for a tattoo of cartoon characters, but his is the first one as far as I'm aware of in which they're kissing!
