Atroquinine Headcanons

"Vex this didn't need expansion why are you doing this" because I love overthinking things

Atroquinine is the name of a chemical found exclusively in Borgnian cocoons. It has two enantiomers-- the R enantiomer is the poison and the S enantiomer is the medicine that can cure incuritis. For obvious reasons this is a pharmaceutical nightmare

(For context, enantiomers are chemicals that are non-superimposable mirror images of each other, like this:)

When extracting atroquinine from the cocoons, you'll get a racemic mixture (50:50 of both enantiomers). It's costly and difficult to isolate the S enantiomer, which (coupled with the R enantiomer's extremely low LD50) makes atroquinine extraction highly dangerous and led to its restriction to Borgnia

Atroquinine (the poison) is closer in my mind to Strychnine but with a few elements of V-series nerve agents. The symptoms (burning throat, arching back, trembling limbs, onset of 10-20 minutes) are more consistent with Strychnine while the physical properties (non-volatile, odorless liquid, long shelf life, extremely low LD50) are closer to VX and similar nerve agents. This is Ace Attorney and actual chemistry means nothing so I'm just gonna mash the two together and call it a day. VX being an AChE inhibitor is irrelevant bc I think glycine receptor antagonists are sexier

Sandwich Squad

So @the-bi-space-ace and I created a squad of clones a bit ago, and we just had to share them!

Bread was a second-generation infantry trooper who was badly injured in the line of duty. His entire squad was killed in an ambush, leaving him alone and wounded. Permanent damage from his injuries, both physical and mental, prevented him from returning to the field. To save him from being decommissioned, his Jedi general pulled strings to have him assigned to a Venator’s mess hall. 

No one knows what his name was before he came to work in the kitchens. Everyone who knew his old name is dead now, and he refuses to tell his new brothers.  Eventually, due to his tendency to make extra pastries and doughnuts for his brothers, his new name became Bread.

Now, Bread is a quiet, stern clone who tends to smell of fresh bread and flour instead of artillery smoke. He is very close with Butter, a bubbly but lactose-intolerant clone who befriended Bread when he first came to the kitchens.

Their Jedi’s padawan, Sol, is often found following Bread around in the kitchens while Bread pretends he isn’t happy about her being there. Bread always sets aside treats for Sol after missions and long training sessions. His favorite treats to bake are cinnamon rolls and sugar cookies decorated to look like little loth-cats.

Pickles was cloned late in the war, when the Kaminoans were pushing to create more clones on an accelerated timeline. He was born with a neurological disorder that makes one of his legs not respond like the other. This caused him to fall behind in training. His trainers often assigned him to cleaning duty as punishment. As a result, the vinegar smell of the cleaning solutions often clung to him and eventually earned him the name Pickles, a name he hated well into adulthood. 

Narrowly escaping decommissioning with the help of a sympathetic trainer, Pickles was assigned to mess hall duty aboard the same Venator as Bread and the rest of Sandwich Squad. 

Pickles tells fantastic stories and jokes but doesn’t have the best memory. He was on his own a lot as a cadet, so it takes him a long time to trust people, even clones.

Ham, another clone working in the kitchens, immediately took Pickles under his wing when they met, and, though Pickles took time to trust him, the two became very close. They both tend toward gallows humor but also delight in playing pranks on Bread and Butter.

And, because I love sad middles with happy endings, Sandwich Squad’s inhibitor chips are defective. As a treat. When Order 66 strikes, their Jedi is killed, but they are able to rescue Sol, their Jedi’s padawan, and escape with her. They encounter the clone rebellion when Rex and Echo save them from an Inquisitor. They eventually settle on a farm on the Outer Rim, far from the Empire, to raise the little Jedi. (And they all live happily ever after, shhh, let us have this.)

Poor Flynnie has to have an ultrasound scan on Thursday :( He is STILL having some pretty severe gut problems, 2 months after they started... Plus, the most recent blood test we did showed up some slightly “off” results, nothing major but various levels were a bit higher, or lower than they should be - including some stuff related to kidney function.

After seeing the results, the vet asked me to get a urine sample. It turns out Flynn’s losing protein in his urine & his urine is also too dilute. High protein levels in urine often happens because a dog has chronic kidney disease but it can also be a temporary issue, due to infection/inflammation, (or other illnesses... like cancer, which I hope is very unlikely to be the cause here). Regardless of the reason it is happening, it puts a strain on the kidneys. Or, in Flynn’s case, a strain on his kidney. Singular. Flynn only has 1 kidney... so we really can’t mess around with this. He’s now on a “renal diet” & if it’s safe, may start on ACE inhibitors to reduce strain on his kidney. The ultrasound will look at both Flynn’s gut & his kidney, so I guess we’ll just have to wait & see if anything shows up. 

I lost Barney, less than 3 weeks ago - after he’d had the exact same infection as Flynn. Barney went from having mild kidney disease, to being in kidney failure in the space of less than a month. Barney was very elderly, of course... but, still... I don’t know what is going on with Flynn. He’s been treated twice for giardia infection, we’ve been manically cleaning to prevent reinfection, he’s on probiotics & was on GI food. He is an apparently otherwise healthy dog & he really should be getting better by now & instead, if anything he seems in some ways worse than he was 6-8 weeks ago. Argh, I am so stressed. My poor little guy :(

Okay, Ace Attorney Amy Rose

It's not coming along so I'm summing up the stories in this

Amy's first case, defendant Sonic the Hedgehog, former olympic gold medalist, current Fastest Thing Alive. Framed for the murder of his former coach.

Prosecution is Fang the Hunter.

The case is solved by Amy accusing Fang, and successfully revealing he's not even a licensed prosecutor, and his badge is jammie dodger

Second case

Amy's mentor, Vanilla, gets infect by Metal Virus, and her daughter Cream is the suspect.

Prosecution is Surge the Tenrec. She brings things for her throat to the courtroom cuz she wears out her voice yelling.

Idk how this goes, but Eggman is arrested for leaking that bio weapon and Surge gets really mad.

Blaze's first (on screen) case

Whisper the Wolf is accused of killing her teammates, the Diamond Cutters.

Prosecution is Lanolin.

Lanolin goes through a lot of effort to prove that Whisper is guilty, but Blaze manages to prove that Mimic was the one that did it, by impersonating Whisper.

Lanolin is very upset she almost declared an innocent guilty, so she arranges a meeting with Blaze to apologize and they get to know eachother.

Lanolin keeps calling Blaze "Majesty"despite the latter's insistence on just being called "Blaze" (I have not figured out this plot point.)

The final case

Surge is framed for a crime (idk what) by Starline. Here we learn her and Kit's backstory, that being victims of child trafficking mixed with memory wiping.

Amy, Blaze and Lanolin all end up working together (think Rise from the Ashes mixed with Turnabout Goodbyes) to unravel Starline's underground empire built in the shadow of Eggman Industries.

When there isn't enough evidence to convict Starline, Lanolin finally brings out Kit as the witness, where it's revealed that his memory never got wiped, and instead he's been pretending for years to not know so convincingly that Starline thought he had him. (If written there would be hints)

After the Not Guilty verdict is given and Starline is arrested, and they're walking out of the courtroom, Surge starts tearing up.

Amy gives her a tackle hug, Blaze gives her a soft hug, Lanolin gives her a comforting hand on the shoulder, and Surge starts bawling her eyes out, now that years of being under his boot have come to an end.

The four move in together, and while watching a move they're like "Are they gonna let us see eachother in court now that we're together?" And Lanolin says "One time an attorney sued someone and prosecuted the case themselves, I think we're fine."

The end.

Bonus tidbits:

Lanolin always has a coffee mug in the courtroom. "I'll sleep when I'm dead."

Surge works in Shadow the Hedgehog's law firm. He wears golden bracelets linked together by a chain as a reference to the inhibitors and to Simon Blackquill. He calls Amy to his office and tells her "Don't give up on Surge." He's known as the "Ultimate Lifeform" because no one has ever seen him take a break or sleep.

Sonic really is the fastest thing alive, having beaten the top speed of the peregrine falcon the year before the events, and the reason he retired from olympic sprinting early.

Since pretty much everyone wears gloves 24/7 cuz it's Sonic, finding a fingerprint is almost exculpatory evidence, and how Blaze proves Whisper is innocent and Mimic is the one that did it.

They do manage to cure Vanilla.

Cream fills a similar role to Maya as Amy's aide.

Vector is the detective, ala Gumshoe. He, Charmy and Espio are also guards in the courtroom and they capture Fang, Bark and Bean when they try to run away.

***TBB SPOILERS***

But on last week's episode, "Flash Strike," because my mind is currently racing in circles and I'll explode if I don't do anything for the next hour. Less coherent than usual probably, because I feel like I'm about to vibrate into the stratosphere.

Immediate Crosshunt frame within the first five seconds. Perfection. And notice Hunter and Crosshair once again leave the scene together—because Crosshair is Hunter's copilot, Crosshair is Hunter's copilot!!! Also they're so obsessed with each other, during the piloting scenes they are constantly looking at each other. Crosshair popping out of his seat to tell Hunter things when he should be watching the screens, Hunter turning around when he should be looking out the viewport?? Are the two of you going to die if you don't make eye contact every ten seconds??? Focus!

"He'll find a way." And boy does he!!! Echo, the man you are. Like in the last episode, the infiltration scene is simple but cleverly choreographed but moves at a good pace.

Bro I'm so mad that it was so easy for Echo to nab a hand and he hasn't before this point wtf

I always like when the Imperials being full of themselves wastes each other's time and allows the protagonists to elude them, while also saying something about the enemy characters. A+ Star Wars plot device.

Please let Scorch make it out and not just die as an easter egg they didn't do anything with!!!

OH NO Scalder is hot

I really like Omega being able to distinguish the rumble of the laser cannons. Everyone who was all worked up about her imitating Crosshair, there you have it. Even without the enhancements, Omega has learned to sense things like Hunter does.

"My brothers" made my siblings > parents heart full. And the line is particularly kickass because she's no longer helpless. She's not waiting for the Batch to come for her. She already has an escape plan. But now she has the reassurance that they'll be working the same mission from opposite ends.

Noshir Dalal's work this episode is ACES. Every single scream he does is so different! And each of them have so much texture.

I love Hunter shooting the rappel line mechanism to save Rampart and it risking his life being a mirror for Tech shooting the mechanism to save the Batch and it risking his life. A much more graceful reminder than just someone awkwardly saying one line about Tech every episode.

Crosshair being 100% confident about which move Hunter will make and how he'll find his way back to them, WHAT IF I CRIED. Hunter, what did you track to find Crosshair, I have to know. Was it his scent? The sound of his footsteps? The flutter of his heartbeat? No matter what it was, it was gay.

Crosswrecker crumbs!!! I can't believe we got TWO emotional conversations in this episode, this is the content I've been starving for. I love the duo of Crosshair and Wrecker so much, and Crosshair being emotionally vulnerable with him specifically is so telling about the depth of their connection.

Love the mirror of Crosshair saying he's here because he owes Omega, mirroring the S1 finale. And you can just feel the ghost of Mayday lingering over this bit. Crosshair's arc in the finale will have to be about him taking an action that shows him growing out of this mentality.

"Cover you?" "What does that mean?" I LOVE THIS SO MUCH. My headcanon for the clones is that they use so much military slang and hand signs to communicate that it's often incomprehensible to outsiders.

This moment during Crosshair's conversation with Rampart!!! And I love the way the light casts them in darkness and light during this conversation, and the way Crosshair appears to be emerging from it. Crosshair carrying Hunter's words with him makes me so emotional.

"Depends on who's giving them." SUB CROSSHAIR SUPREMACY. God this line makes me insane. Crosshair stating both his disdain for the Empire and his allegiance to Hunter in so few words. This show has once again decided to pretend the inhibitor chips don't exist, but I'll trade it for what amounts to an emotional confession / oath of loyalty from Crosshair.

I've watched the scene where Hunter is facing down the beast and Crosshair is standing literally RIGHT behind him so many times oh my god. If he leaned down he could press their cheeks together. I can't believe my prediction that they would just move closer and closer on screen every episode was right. The next logical step for them is to kiss in the finale, obviously.

Also this moment where Crosshair and Hunter help Wrecker up!!!

And this one!!! Echo representing the heroic standard I've been desperate for!!!

Echo going undercover in blank armor to save all his brothers... Fives going undercover in blank armor to save the galaxy... I am unwell. If the Echo feature these past couple episodes has been to set up his death, I will go knock down LFL offices myself.

Every time they play the clone theme for Echo or Rex I start almost crying. The soft rendition in the scene with Emerie made me so emotional, and then the dark fanfare version at the end is so sick!!!

Okay, off I go to lose the rest of my sanity...
