Ace in AZ

First off, a big thank you to @swiftmysupergirl for hanging with me this weekend! Now on to the recap.

I've got to get one thing out of the way: having a Con in an arena is weird.

The layout is funky, you have to take stairs or elevators everywhere, and good luck if you get hungry or thirsty. The food vendors are on the third level and they are few and very spread out.

Also I was stuck on my flight home next to two girls (I’m talking 15 years old) arguing over who in the plane was 'daddy-worthy'

Anyway, to the details (that I remember):

Tom Hiddleston continues to be a joy, moreso on Saturday than Sunday. He was getting tired.

For her picture one girl asked Tom to pretend that he was whispering something in her ear. He said okay and then paused and asked "Is this that ASMR stuff?"

Tom said he may still play Hamlet again someday because he doesn't think he's too old.

Tom gave me a hug and a high five, which we mucked up, so we tried again. It was much better the second time around.

Tom couldn't reveal anything about Loki's TV show. Apparently there's some rumor that he will narrating and there will be a younger actor playing Loki. I'm not sure Marvel is dumb enough to do that.

One girl missed her Lit class to be there so she asked Tom to tell her about Hamlet. Which he did as 'Professor' Tom. 

Tom began to recite Hamlet's "To be or not to be" speech and stopped to say that the answer (to the question whether to be alive or not, if it matters or not) was always "to be, emphatically to be." No matter how difficult things are.

Tom believes Loki has been truly redeemed in Infinity War.

Tom interrupted Charlie's panel to announce that they're starring in Betrayal together.

Charlie is over the moon since he hasn't gotten to see Tom in years.

Charlie Cox is on a one man campaign to get Daredevil picked up again. He even had his two year old daughter sign the online petition.

Charlie is the sweetest, most adorable person. He was all handshakes and hugs and learning everyone's names. And he's a good hugger, he's just so happy to be there.-I tried to find a picture from Stardust for Charlie to sign but there were none. He said they always forget that one.

Michael Fassbender wore a winter jumper. In Arizona. What a foreigner 😂. I don't know how he didn't get heatstroke by the end of the day.

There had been talk of a solo Magneto movie but that was before First Class.

I told him how I loved him in Jane Eyre. He said he did that movie for his mom and sister. He had a hearty laugh when I told him that a woman literally swooned when I saw it in the theater. 

There was talk about the working out the actors have to do for X-Men. Ty wears a muscle suit and practices squinting.-Michael works out for Magneto by lifting spoons and various cutlery with his mind. Like you do.

Alexandra loves food and is afraid of heights. I identify with her sincerely.

There is a third Kingsman movie in the works but neither Taron Egerton or Colin Firth are in it.

Taron thought an audience member asked about his 'moist' films and he was very surprised lol. She said he voiced films.

Taron has seen Infinity War three times.-Taron is apparently amazed anyone has seen his old play. He does plan to go back to the stage.

David Tennant is a pleasure, but what else is new? 

He also appreciates the word “Dastardly”.

David makes his tea using the hot water tap. He puts the tea bag in before filling it with water, regardless of the splashback. Because he's a rebel.

He also went on a mini anti-Trump rant, which I thoroughly enjoyed. So did the audience which was mostly filled with people from out of state or youth. He did make a point to remind everyone that Arizona is a red state, so make better decisions AZ!

Krysten Ritter nearly broke David's nose with a fire extinguisher but being a consummate professional he is, he scuttled across the floor and popped up in frame for the rest of scene. 

The scene got cut because David was a bloody mess and Krysten was mortified.

Krysten had her hair up in a cute, messy bun, held up by a tiny clip. I was super jealous because my hair just falls out of buns and I end up looking like Doc Brown with a whale spout.

Adam Ellis has a reality show coming up.

Adam likes Valentina in RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 4 but thinks Monet Exchange has what it takes. Clearly he's sleeping on Manila.

We sat in the second row at Tom's panel. We were part of the mad dash to take a picture for Instagram. And afterwards I managed to snag some Avengers socks that the Ace staff handed out. Because yay free stuff.

Lastly, I just missed running in to Charlie Cox at the airport. I heard two guys talking about how he just rushed past them. My timing remains terrible.

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that Todd MacFarlane came and gave a lovely speech about Stan Lee.

Stan appreciated his fans like no one else. And Todd wanted all of us to know how much Stan wanted to thank us for all the love and support.

He is truly missed.

Hey friends in Arizona!

Tom Hiddleston will be appearing at Ace Comic Con in Glendale, Arizona on January 12 and 13, 2019

I hope Ace Comic Con returns to NY.  If they don’t, or if they do and there’s no Hiddles I’m going to be real sad and salty.  Last year we had the Justice League and cold weather.  Not an ideal situation, really.

At any rate, have fun Arizona and I can’t wait to hear your stories and see your pictures!

Tickets for Ace Comic Con Arizona have just gone on sale, and as well as photo ops with Tom there will also be photo ops with David Tennant and Tardis!

Sigh.

I hope whoever is going has The Best Time and can report back to us all the awesomeness! 🙂

I don't think I ever posted this here! I went to Ace comic Con in Arizona earlier this year and got to meet Sebastian Stan! We asked if we could both propose to him and this is the pose he ended up with??? Then my sister edited in the heart and ring boxes for me!

For anyone attending ACE Comic Con, Arizona!

So in light of all the cool rumors, I’ve heard a bunch of anti’s on twitter ranting that Sebastian only likes/talks about buckynat because buckynat fans ask him questions about it and not st*cky.

Welp, you know what our response to that should be: KEEP ASKING HIM BUCKYNAT QUESTIONS.

So, if you’re a buckynat fan and you’re seeing Seb this weekend, mention buckynat! Ask him questions, let him know he has fans who love the relationship. Also, it wouldn’t hurt to ask him about the BW movie article he posted on his Instagram story. ;)

Also if my buckynat fam could boost this post so ppl see it, that would be great! :)

In January 2018, I went to the ACE Comic Con in Arizona. In the Q&A featuring Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie, I was glad to hear Chris mention that he would have liked to portray more of Cap in World War II.

 This is the exchange between the moderator and Chris. I’ve transcribed it as best I can. The link is here – go to 34.42 on the Chris, Seb & Anthony video to see it.

 Moderator: “You know, one of the things, Chris, you know, because the first Captain America film obviously was set World War II, and I thought it did such a great job of capturing that time. It’s so hard to imagine now with all the things going on but it’d be great to see another Captain America movie set in that period.”

 Chris: “Yeah. That was, you know, that was one of the things I liked the most about that first movie and that Joe Johnson is so good at bringing to life is that period. It really has… It just kind of aligns itself with an adventure vibe. You know. It’s real Raiders of the Ark kind of tone.

 Moderator: “Which he worked on.”

 Chris: “Yeah. And the score was great. And yeah… That was the one thing I wish we could have kinda explored more is Cap in his element in the forties, you know. Back, you know, when him and Bucky were kicking it, and really…” *cheering from audience and cute reactions from Seb and Anthony* “The Howling Commandoes…”

 Moderator: “It’d be fun. It would be hard to do now.”

 Chris: “It’s kind of impossible to do now. But, yeah, that would have been cool.”

  I think Chris means ‘impossible’ as in that he has now aged too much to play fresh-faced young Steve, but heck, he still looks very young, and there’s always CGI effects if need be! I’d love to see pre-Winter Soldier Bucky again and Peggy, and also the Howling Commandoes getting to have more adventures. That would be wonderful. Perhaps after Chris has had a break from Marvel movies, he’d consider doing this. Come on, Marvel - it could be the Cap 3 movie that we didn’t get!

Those two moments...

I enjoyed Ace Comic Con last week, but I wanted to expand upon a couple moments that really stayed with me.

Charlie

I’ve always liked Charlie Cox since watching Stardust years ago. But I came to truly adore the man after that weekend.

I had two autograph tickets, one for my brother who is a big Daredevil fan. I was talking with Charlie and he asked if I came to these conventions all the time. I found myself kind of just being horribly honest and admitted that I’ve started to go because of my Stage IV cancer diagnosis and how I just wanted to do fun things and enjoy whatever time I have.

I immediately felt bad because he was visibly shocked but then he was just so sweet, asking me how I was, offering condolences, as when I told him how I was actually doing really well now he couldn’t stop wishing me well and just being so caring.

He made sure to ask my name, gave me a big hug, and generally made it impossible for me to not love the guy. Getting to meet and talk with him really was a special moment I cherish.

It’s no secret that Tom Hiddleston is awesome. I was talking with him that Saturday and mentioned how I had met him last summer as I was just finishing up chemo and how this time I was celebrating beating cancer again.

His response cracked me up. He looked all proud and raised his hand for a high five. We totally messed up the high five, mind you. But we tried one more time and actually got it right lol. And I got a hug, so I was pretty over the moon.

But more than that, at his panel when he was speaking about Hamlet and the character’s struggle to decide if life has meaning, Tom made a point to say how life most definitely was worth living. That things aren’t always easy but you have to hang on, that life is worth fighting for.

I kind of teared up at that. To be frank, I’ve struggled a lot this past year and recently have been having bad depression. I live with the threat of cancer returning all the time. And honestly I’ve had days when I’ve been ready to throw in the towel.

I have been lingering on those negative thoughts a lot lately. But his comments made me consider that maybe I’m not ready to call it quits. Maybe the fight is worth it.

And I’m really thankful for that.
