'The cage is open. You can walk out anytime you want. Why are you still in there?'
#Homelander#The Boys#my art#for the record - I hated the 'You could have broken out of here any time you wanted' line#not because I thought it was poorly written#but because I found it painfully accurate#'If it was so bad why didn't you just leave. pisses me off to no end when people on reddit or whatever complain that the show wouldve been better off without the tuunbaq.....did we watch the same show? the tuunbaq is everything, it held everything together. the tuunbaq is the main transformative element of the terror. the tuunbaq elevates the text beyond mere historical fact and lets it say something about the expedition's broader context of imperialism. it hunted the british men who were trampling on its home as a mere stopover, a side casualty, to finding the northwest passage (for, you know, "trade with china" after britain beat china into submission after the imperialist opium war). silna couldnt complete a proper ritual with it because of the british men - just as british colonizers have historically intruded and disrupted the practice of indigenous culture. and in the end the tuunbaq dies, after all the injuries it's taken from the british over the course of 10 episodes and finally chokes to death on the worst of them. because there's no escaping the reality of colonial history, and there is especially no fantastical escape for the colonizer. there's no proper way for us to move forward otherwise.
good historical fiction doesnt have to limit itself to accuracy - it needs empathy to draw out meanings in history using literary craft. thats what the tuunbaq means to me.... if you wanted a straight depiction of historical record, just go watch a documentary.. TUUNBAQ DENIERS DNI
#hell i would argue that historical inaccuracy is just as crucial to accuracy in historical fiction#if not even more so#for a different reason that you need an anchor to remind viewers that this is fiction#and should not be taken as substitute for historical record#though dont get me wrong i think historical fiction complements scholarly text too#because histfic gets to explore aspects of the same history in different ways you cant in academia - more emotional and the like#but its also a problem if histfic presents itself as accurate and ppl start looking at it as historical record itself#kind of like the crown (hate the crown)#so the question of 'how do we play with historical facts to reinforce the themes of the story' is crucial in histfic i think#the terror#the terror amc

Okay! Obviously, I love Wolf 359. The available scripts for Wolf 359 are recording scripts, meaning they're inaccurate in a ton of places when it comes to finalized or improvised dialogue, and don't function well as transcripts (especially since the scripts for the live show and some of the mini episodes were never made available.) That said, I think everyone should read the scripts; the sheer amount of physical description that you can feel in the show, even if you can't see it... I guarantee it will enhance your listening experience. Most visual show to ever be an audio drama. So, in pursuit of both of these goals at once, I went over every word in the scripts, and wrote up new scripts for the unavailable ones. Some of the sound effects described - especially in early episodes - might not line up exactly, because I didn't want to mess with the non-dialogue portion of the show, but I hope this strikes a good balance and can be a useful resource.
#wolf 359#w359#i went back to standardize some s1 formatting last minute so um if i accidentally deleted anything in the process. let me know?#or if there's anything else that stands out but. it should all be there more or less. the dialogue should be accurate now.#do whatever you want with these. compare them to the unedited recording scripts.#use them for screenshots of things you couldn't accurately screenshot before.#use them as actual functional transcripts for dialogue you can't parse. though i had to make some choices with cross talk#especially in the sound and the fury where most of it isn't really meant to be heard and it doesn't easily. format together.#anyway. um. that's it! i hope someone finds this useful and i hope it gets some more people to check out the scripts. maybe.

Lae'zel about to steal yo business partner, mate
Not only is the piña colada dream team possible within this game, but it also somehow becomes a piña colada dream triangle (arrow?)(competition?????).
Every other BG3 relationship you can have is either wholesome or tragic, but only Greygold is able to find the one that is a Godsdamn Mess. It's fine, they can work with this.
#bg3 spoilers#bg3#baldur's gate 3#lae'zel#the emperor bg3#greygold#squid greygold#More accurately she said 'as you were meant to be touched' but still -#Lae is here to win title of best lay (ba-dum-tsh Imsosorry)#Lae squid-slayer? Bread man made me wonder: Do you have any Saint Bernard characters? His coloration almost made me think of one, but I'm guessing he's not. They're my fave, so I'm personally curious!
The bread man is supposed to be vaguely st. bernardesque! His face was darker initially, but it didn't really jibe with the color palette and composition so I kept lightening it :'> In the end he turned out looking almost like a maremmano-abruzzese sheepdog or great pyrenees.
Saint Bernards were originally bred by monks in the Great St Bernard Hospice, situated in the Alps right at the border between Switzerland and Italy. So they would fit into the Vaschete/monastery setting pretty well I think.
#answered#ghostcurse#potentially the most monkish of all dogs#the early st bernards had smaller and lighter build and shorter fur than the modern counterpart#earliest records of them are from late 1600's which is some 100 years after their central timeframe so it wouldn't be 100% accurate#but large shepherd/molosser/livestock guardian dogs like this have been around for millenia

How do the researchers react to the clan cats leaving the lake for a time?
You mean the little patrols they send out?
They aren't aware of them, EXCEPT for the Beaver Expedition that Dovepaw was on. They found out about that one because they got a phone call from the team in charge of the beaver introduction.
It was NERVE WRACKING. Both teams were terrified the other would injure their subjects. They were horrified when the cats dug out the top of the dam and pulled the squealing baby beavers out, thinking this was going to end BADLY, but practically cried in relief and excitement when the Clan cats baited the parents towards the lake.
(I like to imagine someone on the beaver team ended up hitting it off with someone on the Clan cat team. The wedding cake was cats and beavers.)
But generally? They don't know about expeditions. Sometimes they catch them leaving, but don't have the funding to chase them down.
Clan cats are also not under constant surveillance. Very important to understand this. Clan cats will attack anything that upsets them and good cameras are expensive; they snuck one into the ThunderClan Camp once in like 2009, and Firestar dug it up at the stake and dropped it down the WindClan border ravine because it was freaking his warriors out.
(The cats don't understand that the cameras watch; they just don't like the Freaky Human Thing)
So the team has to be careful, not install too many, and hide the ones they do have. They don't want the cats to move again.
#I try to make sure that my researchers are more like actual wildlife scientists than gods. Yknow?#I think it's more interesting that they have funding issues and can't just install endless cameras#PLUS the cats reach the lake around 2008-ish. So I try to keep the technology accurate#Re: a lot of this is based off techniques they had to use for capturing the footage on Meerkat Manor#I also use the wayback machine to reference the Sirtrack catalogue which was cutting edge tech at the time#And mind you! This isn't meerkat manor. These researchers are ridiculously underfunded#Have i ever mentioned that i loved meerkat manor as a kid? A family member used to record it for me lmaooo#Better bones au#Millie's radio collar

Even with TBOB and thisisnotawebsite.com there's... Still so much we don't know about Bill. Like ok yeah he's given a tragic background, we know a bit more about his henchmaniacs, but we really don't know a lot. Like, what happened directly after he accidentally destroyed his dimension? It isn't said. Sure time baby KNOWS about Bill's destruction of his dimension, but it seems like he didn't show up after Bill's dimension was destroyed to apprehend him because he only knows about Bill after Bill tries to make a deal with him, causing Bill's wanted poster. And how did Bill become basically the overlord of the nightmare realm, and gather all his henchmaniacs? Like there's a good period where we just don't know. And it's implied he's shocked and horrified (likely even dissociates, since he does that) after he destroys his dimension. But his characterization doesn't seem by that point to be one that immediately goes into a self-destructive, violent god-becoming maniacal spiral of self hatred; it's more one to be overwhelmed with grief and spend a good long time in the midst of his grief, then necessarily he's about to DO anything. And generally speaking trope wise, there's steps missing; typically in this sort of scenario, the usual progression is this:
characterized as monster due to being different in some way
tries to prove their not
ends up hurting someone anyways
gets further villainized, and antagonized by others
Acceptance of being a monster, and goes okay? You wanted a monster? I'll be a monster.
Now this fits Bill's early life, up to number 4, but we don't know what happens immediately after. It's possible he just went into his spiral immediately after, but it feels wrong, because it is missing the part of someone further villainizing him beyond himself which causes him to lash out due to the expectation (and internalized) idea that he would cause harm. I'd assume maybe some kind of interdimensional authority showed up and accused him of purposely trying to kill his dimension, which triggered his "okay, then I'll be a monster", or even a situation where his 'monstrosity' through the badge of killing his dimension is garners him respect. Considering that his henchmaniacs are chosen out of monstrosity and violence as a badge of honor, it feels very much like this would make sense, except none of them really know about Bill's dimension. He doesn't brag about the violence of it; he only calls it a liberation, contrary to the idea that Bill ever used it to gain clout. Instead, it's more likely that an interdimensional authority showed up and accused Bill, except from circumstances, it doesn't seem like it was Time Baby, so not sure who it would be... but at the same time, that expectation is often required for the character to truly embrace their 'monstrosity' and become truly violent. Or perhaps it was delayed after the destruction of his dimension, later when he begins to run with his henchmaniacs and disregards the law, but that also doesn't feel satisfactory for character development. Or perhaps I'm just overthinking this trope...
Also, how did he have his powers? Some is clearly stuff he's always had; pyrokinesis from that one rhyme, the ability to see into 3d, and he was somehow able to destroy his dimension by whatever he did to let Euclydians see the stars (telekinesis?), but beyond that? Was he always all-seeing? How did he become a 'dream demon'? Are his deals actually binding or does he lie? Are these things that he acquired later, because Euclydians seem to be written about as if they usually don't have any of these abilities, nor the abilities Bill is known to have when young, nor did Bill seem to be able to be all seeing when he was younger. Plus, how was Bill able to survive the destruction of his dimension, if he's technically made of the same stuff as everyone else, who all seems to have a physical form? Why then does he seems to be characterized as a being made of pure energy and thought; is that just in Earth's dimension, or does he have a physical form within the nightmare realm? There's multiple things that are contradictory about his body (mouth-eye, yet talked about removing his exoskeleton to feed--not sure exactly when this was mentioned--plus his mouth located under his bricks and bowtie in his exoskeleton in journal 3). But he seems so thrilled by his physical form though on earth, and we know that physical forms exist within the Nightmare realm as Ford was in it... yet it seems like hes characterized to have no physical form, so did he perhaps lose his physical form when his dimension died? Did he technically die with them too, but with his powers was able to survive essentially as a ghost like he tells Dipper you become without a body?
#hugin rambles#hugin rambles gf#bill cipher#the book of bill#tbob spoilers#thisisnotawebsitedotcom#gravity falls#gravity falls meta#bill ci the triangle guy#theres so many questions and i get part of it is just not explained and likelye never will be and thats also FUN to play with#but its also super curious because there is a v large time where you DONT know a pivotal part of Bill's existence. like he presumably also#dated a howling void? when does that fit in or is it another bit?#but like... the implications about his power and his form and euclydia burning. like fuck#also putting my chips on he was accused directly after and escaped the authorities. and has been chased since and he was like well okay ill#be fucking monster then actively#although it is an interesting thought experiment if it was slowly over time it snowballed into him having a god-complex#also like LOVE getting into how magic works. like okay tell me the technical details. fanfics which go into this i devour with delight#is he an actual demon or it is it just classed as he makes deals? are these deals binding? is it also something that then peovides hik with#power in that sense? oughhh so many good questions.#trying not to feel like Ford excitedly pulling out a clipboard to record all my theories and failing whoops#also like im aware parts of this will be not accurate and perfectly smooth for Bill's powers and char development because its always been#predicated on whats funnier rather then it being a self-formed idea fully fleshed at the beginning of the series

Thinking about how (almost) every kid wanted to be the chosen one for the Hell Prophecy, and Taylor’s anime opening bit in the first episode. Tried picking out who what the MC of what genre but it was really hard as someone who usually does not consider genre ^^;
#honestly it’s probably more accurate to say that Normal is the MC of a 2nd gen dystopia a la the Uglys or Divergent or Maze Runner#just SOLELY because his family is at the root of everything that’s gone wrong#for like the past 5 generations#but my boy needs a BREAK and I’m not afraid to say it#for the record i don’t read a lot of fic and I’m PRETTY SURE hurt no comfort just means the MC goes through worse and worse situations#idk if there’s an underlying meaning to it that I don’t know#congrats to Linc for pulling a Ladybird#dungeons and daddies#dndads#dndads season 2#dungeons and daddies season 2#normal oak swallows garcia#scary marlowe#taylor swift#Lincoln boss kicks#lincoln li wilson

Producer 08 by Dedf1sh (©℗ 2013 goodlooking)
#splatoon 2#dedfish#dedf1sh#acht mizuta#octo expansion#art#graphic design#ltj bukem#goodlooking#The original “Producer” series actually lasted until the seventh rendition with Producer 07 by Big Bud!#Dedf1sh continuing the legacy of goodlooking records would be hilariously accurate. I might make a few songs for this cover#When designing this I also realised that the font and positioning of the Producer logo and the general designs of the covers#changed a BIT over the run of these albums#For example#The font for the artist text in Producer 01 (LTJ Bukem) looked kind of funky before they changed it to the expansiva-esque one#Producer 05 also does not list LTJ Bukem as a member of goodlooking records#it just says “rarities” which I carried over!#Producer 03 Producer 06 and producer 07 all have all the text and logos in the bottom left corner (probably because the subjects are#in different places) and the font for Big Bud's artist text on Producer 07 is this strange barely readable 2020's y2k esque font#cool stuff!!
