Jojolands 19: Dad Rock-Off

We got a new Jojos! And unfortunately our last one for a little bit, breaks are always tougher for a monthly release. But this does leave us off in a pretty cool place in the ongoing struggle between the Jobros and the duo of assassins sent by...well, this guy. The chapter starts off with a bit of exposition on Acca Howler and it's some pretty solid stuff.

I'm sure I wasn't the only one who assumed his deal was something like this. His family managed to end up with some land when Hawaii was still independent. It wasn't great land but using modern irrigation techniques he was able to make something of it. The success put him in a prime position as the mainland US took more of an interest in the archipelago. All in all, not a bad anime expy for real-life colonization of the Hawaiian Islands. One of the many darker chapters in American history that happened more recently than many realize. For perspective, my Dad was a teenager when it officially became a state which had a fair amount of local support at the time but in more recent decades we've seen a resurgence of a Hawaiian sovereignty movement. Something I've wondered about in terms of how much it may influence a part of this manga set in those islands.

Here we go, Howler is the heir to the exact type of business empire you'd typically see as the bad guy from that perspective. Very important going forward, but for now the rest of the chapter focuses on the ongoing battle in the hospital.

This MRI bit continues to be the perfect type of fucked-up Jojo's comedy gold. Just the juxtaposition of Dragona swearing he's calming down next to...this. Guess he'll calm down if he's unconscious. D seems to be having some success here though given Jodio was able to catch Lulu via the drawback of her getting nosebleeds when Bags Groove is attacked. Not that it does him much good when...

DAD ROCK SHOWDOWN!! The Boss vs. GnR. Glory Days and November Rain squaring off head-to-head. I've said it before, but these battle chapters will give less to talk about by design. It just comes down to how Araki writes.

That doesn't mean this isn't cool as hell. I love the clash here, Jodio can block the bullets pretty well by using November Rain as a shield. Which is a solid application. I did kinda wonder when we first saw it if it would have the flexibility to be a main Jojo stand and we're seeing signs it will. Especially when we're still likely going to see him share that role more with Dragona, at least to the degree Giorno/Buccirati did. Shame we have a break but I'm ready to see the conclusion to this showdown.

Last week was really rough due to some health issues, but I'm slowly working through them. No success on the scanner front though, so that whole thing continues to be up in the air.

This blog is where I go to post about stuff I like though, so that's what I'm going to do. Here are a few highlights from the last few days.

I was lucky enough to score a copy of the G-Witch staff book from Comiket for not-the-worst price in the world . Look at how shiny those rings are, suck shit Bandai. (Seriously though, can't wait for that book to arrive with a few other things, the G-Witch team went all out and it looks gorgeous.)

Paripri Koumei mini-album!

They're really releasing an IRL "Dreamer" mini-album (per the manga) on October 25, which is giving me the energy to go on. Flower crown!!! hot chill hot!!! I cannot wait to listen to it on repeat for at least a month and thoroughly skew my Spotify Wrapped for the year.

Cheap Kageki Shojo!! R4 Blu-ray!

The ungodly fusion of Madman and Crunchyroll in Australia hasn't given shoujo fans a whole lot of anything, but they did manage to release Kageki Shojo!! this time last year. I finally broke down and bought it locally because the complete blu-ray set is currently $20AU in the distributor's winter sale. So there's a pro-tip for fellow local shoujo fans who are also poor as shit.

In terms of cheap-as bargains from that sale I'd also recommend the ACCA bd set for $20AU and the Flip Flappers bd set for $23.98.

More Fujii Mihona digital releases!

A new GALS!! digital anthology and another chapter of the new Ryuu-ou Mahoujin arc? Yes please! While they don't have a date yet, the promise of these releases in the coming weeks has me excited... Although I still haven't made good on my promise to re-read the OG volumes. ;o;

That's about all I can think of right now!

I'm sure I'm forgetting a bunch of things, but these were the highlights. If I can get on top of my pain this week I'd like to do some more reading/watching of things, but we'll see how things go. Thanks for sticking with me.

Seeing all my friends getting jobs while I'm still unemployment has to be worst feeling of all.

On one point I'm happy that they have settled down but I'm also jealous. I feel like I'm slowly losing track of my life again. 2020 and 2021 had been the most disgusting years of my life, where I was at my worst possible self. Failing at everything, depression, anxiety, physical and mental pain, crying all night etc thinking that I would go nowhere in life. I'm only a burden to my parents. I'm only making them work. There has been numerous times where I wanted to relieve them off this burden. I wanted to end it all.

I hate looking at social media or talking to my friends. Not because I hate them, but because I know it would only make me realise how much of a loser I am compared to them in life. I would just leave them hanging because I'm a loser who has nothing. No job or success story to share. Sometimes I worry, if I would actually land a job or not since I have no experience. I'm pretty sure while I'm on a job interview, the interviewer would find me a pathetic 23 year old who knows nothing and other candidates who are younger than me are more suited for the job.

Maybe I shouldn't have taken ACCA course at all. Maybe I should have done something else? Why did I even do this? Why is my life so.... pathetic? When will this be all over? When will I stop being pathetic?
