Wooooo, it's super neat that you're in acadec!! There's almost no acadec studyblr content online and that makes me sad. At the risk of sounding overly personal, how competitive is your team? You can brag if you want, lol. Also, because I've been wanting to try to collect advice and study ideas from different people for a while: what do you feel like are your top tips for studying or for speech/interview in acadec?

omg! i apologize for the late reply! 

but yep! it’s pretty sad to see that there isn’t any acadec based studyblrs out on here, however, i’m glad that i went out of my comfort zone and started one! to answer your question about how competitive my team is, we are pretty competitive. however, i won’t disclose where or what my school is due to privacy reasons, but we take acadec very seriously here. we’ve won regionals multiple times, qualified for state, and meh- you get the gist.

i kinda grew up in the USAD bubble competing in pentathlon so it was never an act that was forced,, meaning acadec/acapent was a part of me. it took me about a year to get used to pentathlon, and i think i kinda get acadec now. (i’m a newbie soph) 

my top tips for studying are to: 

* limit your color coding(keep it simple, and only like 2 colors lol)

* read the guide in your head, then try explaining the story, concept, or history aloud to the wall, your dog, your water bottle idk

* make connections!!!!try to put the stuff you learn from the guides and apply them to your real life **this will help you look deeper into the content, and make decisions based on the question(aka picking C) 

for speech/interview: (speech=sp, interview=inte)

* (sp&inte): be interactive! talk with your hands!

* (sp): TAKE YOUR TIME. do not rush. it’ll make you look stupid tbh

* (inte): the judges don’t know you. if you don’t have anything cool to talk about yourself, it is perfectly fine to lie

* overall, be confident, but also be HUMBLE. remember kendrick lamar? sit down, be humble.

So proud of my son and all the teens on this year's Academic Decathlon team for IDEA. They work hard to get a spot on the team. And then they work together to do their best. This is a photo of both teams with the 2 coaches who do much for these kids. I'm sad to think my 4th son will not experience bring a part of this. (Unless we find a way to make it happen in Mississippi!) And my 11th grader is sad that he won't be able to do it again next year. I suspect he would be on board if I took a job up here just to stay in IDEA through graduation. But the needs of our family override to be together and make a new home take priority. The team he was on placed 2nd in state for overall. And took 2nd place for large schools for Super Quiz. He won a bronze medal for economics, too. More than the winning of medals is the forging of friendships. Many homeschool kids in high school have a hard time finding the club or team experience. That's where this has filled a hole for many. It is only possible since IDEA is technically part of the Galena School District. Otherwise, homeschool kids can apply to compete individually at the national level. While going as an individual can meet some needs, they lose out on the team component. Forging bonds and working together towards a common goal. My older boys participated as well and their closest friends came from AcaDeca. Summer School + AcaDec

in 2 days, i begin summer school and self-studying for decathlon!! 50% of the time, i’m really stoked and excited for it..but the other 50% is rather scared and worried..lol!! if you’re wondering, i’m taking Math92 and Hist34, which are courses at my local community college. for decathlon on the other hand, i plan to self study art, lit, music, science, and speech. sounds really hectic, but i’m up for the challenge ^_^ “i never look back darling, it distracts from the now”

Super proud of son #3, the guy with glasses almost smack in the middle. #AlaskanLiving Last year he did not want to be on the Academic Decathlon team. One time and he was hooked. The teams from @ideafamilies are the only ones I know about. Usually, homeschool kids compete individually and miss out on the whole team experience. Wasn't sure if he'd make the team this year. He only made some of the study group sessions. By the time qualifying test came out, he had only gotten through part of the study guide. He made Team 1 this year. (Harder to get than a team 2 spot.) And got 3rd place for his level for both Literature and Music. Plus, the team placed 2nd for state. He is already eager for next year. And now he knows that more effort could mean more reward for him and the team.
