To be honest, I don’t really know how many of these count as comfort movies?? Like I rewatch them from time to time, and some of them I’ve only seen a couple of times. Some of these are comfort movies in the making, too- movies that are sure to definitively become comfort movies as time goes on. Additionally, I'm always in search of new comfort movies.

1. Muppet Treasure Island

I grew up watching this movie, despite my fear of the Muppets back then because of a spooky advert for the Muppet Christmas Carol. It’s honestly such a comforting watch for me because of how well I know the film, and because it's fun escapism.

2. Beauty and the Beast

I rewatched this again recently just for the fun of it and it made me so happy! The story, the characters, the songs- it's all incredible. I was immersed the whole way through, and the experience felt so magical. Say what you will about Disney, but so many of the Disney Renaissance movies are such a joy to watch.

3. The Great Muppet Caper

This is my favourite Muppet movie. The first time I watched it (some point last year, I believe) I fell in love with it, and I watched it again the next day because of how fun it was. I've only seen it a couple of times, but I plan on rewatching it tomorrow night because it's results day the next day and I could do with some light-hearted Muppet fun before bed.

4. Whisper of the Heart

Truth be told, I haven't rewatched this one in a while, but it's brought me so much comfort when I have watched it. As a creative person (specifically, a writer) I really appreciate the themes around creativity and following your passions and feeling lost in life.

5. Fantastic Mr. Fox

I just love this film. I relate a lot to Ash (who is definitely some shade of trans/genderqueer, in my opinion) and it is just such a joy to watch. There's definitely an element of nostalgia, but it's just such a good movie without that.

6. The Iron Giant

Another classic kids film that I didn't watch until my teen years. It's always a fun watch and it never fails to make me cry.

7. We're All Going to the World's Fair

This is one of the few films that has made me feel truly seen. Again, I've only watched it a couple of times, but those times that I did watch it it felt strangely comforting because it felt like it understood me.

8. Creep 1 & 2

I grouped these together because I've watched them back-to-back during my rewatches. They're both fun watches for me, which is precisely why they're so comforting; they're a fun kind of escapism, with all the tension and murder one could desire.

9. Hot Fuzz

Hot Fuzz is one of my favourite movies of all time, if not my favourite. It's so relentlessly funny, the characters have such good chemistry and the story is so enjoyable. Not to mention it's visually incredible.

10. Ghostwatch

Another horror one! In fact, this is one of my favourite movies of all time, as well as my favourite horror movie (it doesn't scare me too much, but I love the spooky atmosphere, the characters, the story and the format; it's all really effective!). It's a really fun and engaging watch because of how unsettling and real it feels. Even when it's not even spooky season, it makes me feel like a kid watching a TV broadcast on Halloween night.

Honorable mentions: The Iron Giant, Megamind, Treasure Planet, Dead Poets Society, the Lion King 2, A Goofy Movie, the Birdcage and Jurassic Park.

1. Dead poets society (1989): do i even need to say something? This movie is THE movie, it's literally perfect

2. Billy Elliot (2000): i literally grew up with this movie. I would watch it all the time with my mom and it's just so good <3

3. Mamma mia (2008): same reason as billy elliot (these two movies raised me). The setting, the songs, the cast, everything is perfect in this movie!

4. Charlie and the chocolate factory (2005): i honestly don't know what to say. It's just so much fun

5. Les Tuche (2011): french movie about a lower working class family winning 1 million € at the lottery and moving to monaco. The humour of this movie is so beauf as we say in french (i'm sorry i don't have any english word that fits) but i love it so much! Perfect for when i need a good laugh

6. Frozen (2013): i don't know what it is about this movie, i've seen it so many times and it just makes me so happy! I remember being like 12 and spending afternoons with my friend filming music vidéos for the songs, i also have another friend with who we sometimes look at each other and quote a scene. Just lots of good memories around this one <3

7. Little miss sunshine (2006): so good so fun so sad so lighthearted so deep so everything

8. The great Gatsby (2013): i'm in love with the aesthetics of this movie, it's so pretty to watch! I also love the (very random) soundtrack

9. Finding Nemo (2003): the first movie i was obssesed with! I would watch it all the time when i really young (like 2 or 3 years old)

10. Call me by your name (2017): makes me dream of spending my summers in a beautiful house somewhere in northern italy <3 the vibe of this movie is everything!! (the book made me really uncomfortable though)
