Life Withing a Dark Deck
Chapter 2: Clock is Ticking
Katsuki’s mind was racing. He had taken the main route to the Flat where Izuku and Auntie Inko lived but he had stopped at the tunnel where the blood trail ended. It was a mess like something or someone had a battle there but something didn’t add up. There was no body or pool of blood.
His gut told him that Izuku was still alive and that he was elsewhere, and a few locations popped up: the train to Mustafu and the Beast’s Forest if he takes the train all the way north. That is what he fears the Nerd would do, if he was already suicidal then the beasts there may be the next possible thing that could fulfill his wish.
Not on his fucking watch.
He is going to need more help, and even though Tsubasa and Riko are helping with the search, Mustafu is just too big of a search. He at first didn’t want them involved because he had a sneaking suspicion that Inko was one of Izuku’s main tormentors and being friends with the Hag brought fear that his mother might be the same or deny any of Inko’s possible wrongdoing.
His mom also knew that he was also bullied at school and would treat him or nurture him whenever he visited. Mitsuki was seeing signs of withdrawal and it made her very paranoid. He got this sixth sense from her, so it looks like he will have to make the leap of faith.
He had dialed his mom’s work number and waited for her to answer. Immediately he growled when she started berating him. “You better be dying or DEAD for trying to call me at work, brat!”
“I’m not but Deku may be.” Katsuki said quickly and he could hear the pen drop from the other side of the phone. “I think he is in trouble, and it’s leaving a lot of questions.”
Mitsuki was in her office, sitting with one of her hands gripping the armrest, dreading what she might hear next. “What is it, Katsuki?”
“How well do you know Auntie Inko?” Katsuki asked and the next thing he heard was something cracking. “Is she hiding some twisted secret?”
“W-why are you asking this? What are you accusing Inko of?” Mitsuki couldn’t hold her anger and the armrest snapped. Alarm bells were ringing, fearing that Inko’s past had caught up to her sanity.
“...Deku was limping this morning when he wasn’t yesterday when I brought him home, and…the school is under investigation of abuse and exploitation.”
“WHAT!!!???” Mitsuki’s voice was heard from the entire floor and the floors between her, and some of the nurses hid from PTSD when they faced her wrath. Katsuki held his phone away from his ear seconds before the outburst, expecting her to go ballistic.
Oh, she will fucking die if that is the case. Mitsuki thought and growled. “Find him and make sure you keep him away from Inko, I will call Masaru and we will help with the search. I also got to make a call. Do you have any proof of this exploitation?”
“You will need to talk to Iruka-Sensei, our homeroom teacher. He’s the one who showed me something that was fucked up, he is the only one I trust. He was the only one who treated Deku as normal as possible and never was a dick to him..”
Mitsuki nodded and grabbed her keys and ran out her door. “Right, you do what you can but please don’t hurt him, I am sure the poor bunny is hanging on a thread. Don’t say anything to upset him, I know your mouth has no filter.”
“You’re the one who gave it to me, Hag.” Katuski’s stomach lurched as he remembered what he had said to him at school. “I-I will do what I can, no promises.” He then hung up the phone and texted Riko and Tsubasa to head towards the Mustafu train station and look for Izuku there while he ran back to the city.
Meanwhile, Mitsuki ran down the stairs and made a call to the Mustafu Child Protective Services, letting them know the situation, and requested a special party with knowledge of abuse and exploitation. They had provided them with a Pro Heroine known as Ophiuchi, someone she had never heard before, but the profile they had sent to her phone held a lot of promise. Now, it was a race against the clock to find and hopefully save Izuku.
“Hang in there, Mochi. We are coming.” She muttered, her gut screaming for her to hurry while she called Masaru to help join the search.
-
In the principal’s office of one of the most prestigious schools in Japan, a bear-rat chimera named Nezu happened to hear the phone call he had programmed to patch to him or record if the voices spoke certain keywords, and in this case, it was abuse, exploitation, and Ophiuchi. The main reason was that the Principal was working with the Pro Hero Zodiac Team in child trafficking cases and trying to save as many children who had the misfortune of becoming an escort or sold into black markets and slavery. After what he had been through as some kind of ‘Lab Rat’ himself, he became determined for others, especially children not to suffer any kind of slavery.
This is what he was thinking as he heard that they assigned Ophiuchi to the case and the serpentine herself sent him a file regarding this Izuku Midoriya, including the vids his Homeroom teacher Iruka Umino had collected secretly underneath that same school’s nose. Iruka agreed to work undercover after the abuse he had seen with the verdanette and other students unable to fend for themselves.
Another reason was that he had sent Recovery Girl to the hospitals the poor boy went to for two of the attempts, trying to locate the doctors and nurses who treated him as his medical records were either nonexistent or marked him as malingering or false injuries. Something didn’t add up, and if they find proof Recovery Girl would raze the hospitals to the ground whether with court approval or not.
Nezu had to look for the boy right away, he had already attempted suicide multiple times within the year and he was becoming more desperate as his mind progressed to something darker. He even saw something in the still photo of the poor boy that also made his stomach boil. Among the marks and scars he had, there in the middle of his back at the base was a branding of one of the most notorious child traffickers: the Crimson Goats. They specialized in Quirkless and Anthromorph torture and helotry, occasionally enslaving Emitters for black market or breeding.
He knew who the owner of the Crimson Goats was, it was child’s play as he wasn’t very creative when he named the felonious business but the only thing was to catch him slipping and gather proof. That will be set aside, for now, Izuku was the main priority. Nezu hacked into All Might’s phone to locate where he was now and patched into the tunnel’s camera, rewinding the feed to where he saw Izuku with a broken and bloodied arm and…allowing a Villain to possess him. Poor boy, this would mark the fourth attempt.
He then sped up the footage where All Might appeared and blew the Sludge away from the boy who looked deathly pale even in the tunnel’s shadows. He had to give the Pro Hero credit for trying to get the boy to cough up the sludge before turning and flying off somewhere with the boy. Nezu was able to do a quick trajectory and within moments he hacked into another camera where he found All Might and Izuku. From there he watched the boy purge the sludge out of his stomach and lungs before having a panic attack and getting away from the Hero. A few minutes passed and he growled menacingly at what he had heard next.
You should be lucky I saved your life, kid. There is nothing for a Quirkless fool, especially one who still dreams of a better future.
Oh, All Might is going to pay for that. He entered a few keys to permanently activate his location on the phone and focused on the boy, who was clutching his heart like he was having a heart attack. He contacted Recovery Girl to prepare for an emergency patient, but the next second the pained screams were heard through the feed, feeling the hope he had shattered by the man he thought was a hero.
The next few minutes were crucial as Nezu had to think as the poor boy slowly walked toward the edge of the roof. He needs to stop him from falling to his death, and Aizawa, one of the few heroes he trusted was closest to the boy but too far to stop the fall.
Think Nezu, think! Of all the brilliancy you have, how hard is it to stop a mentally abused child from causing his demise?
He looked at any kind of info that may create an attachment, and they were very few. The only thing he could see was that this Katsuki Bakugou is his childhood friend yet the records show he was verbally and mentally abusive toward the boy. Another was Bakugou’s mother, Mitsuki, who showed concern when Katsuki mentioned that Izuku was abused, and that caused her to make the call to the MCPS. Did that mean Katsuki actually cared for the boy?
He had to make a leap of faith, something the chimera rarely uses, and made some quick voice similarity to match the blonde’s and upped it a few octaves and called his name through a speaker nearby, making it sound like a distant echo that would make him think his mind was imagining it. Hopefully, this was enough.
Nezu sighed and smiled as he saw a little light come back to the boy's eyes before jerking himself back from the rails and falling to the ground. He could see the confusion and frustration, but at this moment he would take that more than red blood. He had thought that Izuku would not stay on that roof long so Nezu used facial recognition on Izuku and activated all cameras to send him information on where he was next. This was attempt number four and this bear-rat refused to lose someone who the world believes was another statistic, that was not worth noting.
Katsuki stopped at an alleyway, panting and heaving as his body was working overtime. He had run like 5 miles and he felt like he was dying, it had been a while since he felt out of shape. The blonde had asked for a rendezvous with the other two, Tsubasa and Riko for a recap and to see where they could look for Izuku. At this time his stomach was becoming nauseous, a sign he knew that the worst was yet to come.
“Bakugou!” Katsuku looked up and saw Tsubasa fly down right next to him and gave him some water. “I have checked the Northern checkpoint of the Mustafu line and I didn’t see Midoriya, I have made several trips to double and triple check.”
“He wasn’t at the Southern Line, and I asked several people if they had seen him, no one has, even that hawk-eyed conductor who sees everything.” Riko said next, bending over and panting just as much as Bakugou, maybe more. “Y-you know him best, where would he go next?”
Katsuki cursed and handed the bottle to Riko. If he hasn’t already headed toward the Beast’s Forest, was he still in Mustafu or did he choose a different method? “I don’t fucking know, he may have gotten caught by someone, got delayed, or…” He then remembered what he said at Aldera, holding a hand over his mouth in morbid realization.
If you want a quirk so bad, why don’t you jump off a building and wish for one in the next life?
There is no way-then he…Katsuki blasted a row of trash cans as he kicked himself hard as Karma decided to fuck with him. “He may be planning to jump, but not from any roof,” Katsuki said as he turned to face his friends. “He is planning to jump off a bridge, with deep water underneath. The only bridge here in this shitty city is Wisteria Bridge, which connects Mustafu to Willow Island. He can’t swim at all, and I remember an incident that nearly killed him. That is where he is going to go.”
Riko and Tsubasa nodded in agreement at the next location, but before they were about to leave, their homeroom teacher suddenly arrived and ran at them yelling “Look out”. The next second they heard glooping and bubbling sounds from behind and a large silhouette of some kind of sludge appeared behind them, with eyes and massively wide teeth.
The Sludge-Thing then lunged and grabbed Bakugou before the teen had time to react, and laughed as his prey started to use his palms to escape his grasp. “Very nice, you would be a much better host than that lifeless green-eyed brat. All Might can’t save you now.”
Katsuki looked at him briefly as he mentioned someone with green eyes before increasing his blasts, causing the surrounding areas to catch fire and damage the walls between them. He needed to escape and find Izuku, did this pathetic cum-sludge kill him?
“Bakugou!” Iruka yelled as he grabbed the other two and pulled back, trying to think of a way to help save the boy. His Quirk was useless against it, even if it was considered illegal by law, there was no way speaking to dolphins would free him.
He had no choice but to wait for the Pro Heroes to arrive.
In a traffic jam not too far away Mitsuki was in her car massaging her stomach as her instincts were punching it like Katsuki kicking her trying to get out. Something was going to go down, and she hated not knowing what. All she knew was that it involved both her babies, and she feared for their lives.
She honked the horn as the idiots in front of her weren’t moving. “Move dumbasses, we are in a green fucking light!!!”
“Relax lady, we are in after-school traffi-itte!”
“Fuck off dipshit or my skillet is going up your ass next time!!” She honked her horn again for several more seconds before an explosion was heard several blocks away, causing her and everyone to look in that direction.
Her stomach became cold as ice as she recognized her son’s blasting pattern and immediately left her car to run to ground zero. She had a feeling both Katsuki and Izuku would be there, and someone is playing fucking chess.
—
Izuku was on his way toward Wisteria Bridge, trying to figure out the best way to tie his legs with something so he can sink quickly and have the water crush him. He zoned out and had a certain smile, imagining the pain as his lungs, heart, brain, and other organs shrink at the rapid drop, forcing air out of him as his body screams for life. Izuku then had the morbid images of blood flowing out of his orifices, enticing the sharks and other underwater ravagers to him and tearing him limb by limb, leaving nothing but an eye staring at the sun one last time before it too got eaten.
Explosions took him out of his thoughts followed by screams from the Mustafu civilians as they started to run to where the action was. Izuku scoffed at them, running like starving flies to sugar in hopes to see Pro Heroes in action. Ninety percent of them wanted to see more of that harlot’s ass and overused cunt of Mt. Lady. She flaunts and poses for the fucking fun of it, Midnight has much more decency. Still…it wouldn’t hurt to watch the shenanigans before closing the curtains.
He took a scarf from his backpack and wrapped his damaged arm in a sling to avoid anyone looking and ran toward the location where he could now see black smoke and flames. The crowd had already gathered to the point it was already triggering Izuku’s claustrophobia but pushed it aside as he weaved and dodged slowly to the front of where the officers already had a blockade up away from the flames and debris. Izuku shook his head as he realized the Pro Heros who patrol the area hadn't arrived yet. Useless fucks, they are just like Ass Might and waiting for the perfect time to make an entrance.
“Have the blasted fire trucks arrived yet!?? The kid started several massive fires and I can’t get them all!”
Izuku looked to the right and saw Backdraft who was trying to put out the fires in the alleyways and the red-bricked buildings sandwiching it. He looked like he was under a lot of stress, and the sounds of explosions and more fires appearing were putting him in a foul mood. “WHERE THE FUCK ARE THE HEROES!!??”
Okay….bitchy mood.
“Come fight us like a man instead of hiding behind a hostage you coward!” Finally, a Pro Hero arrives wearing a cyan-colored cardigan that was defining his muscles and attaching to his pecs with who-knows-what, and his wrist guards were thick and made of metal detailed with yellow and black caution tape. He ran toward the source of the issue and Izuku had to hold a hand over his mouth as his stomach roiled at the person Death Arms was rushing to and gagged violently.
It was the bastard Sludge Villain All Might saved Izuku from, and he just laughed as he took the Pro Hero’s punch and threw him against a large garbage bin. “You are nothing compared to All Might! No one here can defeat me!!” The villain laughed even louder before looking down as another round of explosions escaped his body, causing another boulder to fall into the verdanette’s stomach as he recognized a tuft of cream-blonde hair and crimson eyes, looking pissed.
“K-kacchan…” Izuku whispered and tears started to fall. He didn’t want this, he only wanted him and everyone else to leave them alone. He then began to berate himself. If that villain had taken my life and possessed him, would Katsuki be spared? If All Might had just left me to die and just focused on the villain, would he still be in his possession? Why did Fate and Death hate me so much!!??
“Move Kid!” Another Pro Hero arrived and knocked Izuku to the side as he jumped over the blockade and morphed his hands into the wood and aimed it toward the blonde and three other people who were surrounded by falling debris. The verdanette hissed as he glared at the newcomer, another Pro Newbie who just wanted fame, but he still has a kind heart as he used another branch to lift Izuku back up while he grabbed an adult and two kids but recoiled from the epicenter of the blast.
“The flames and blasts are too powerful, Backdraft can you do anything to douse them?” Kamui yelled as he brought the three he saved to him. “I WILL WHEN THE FUCKING FIRE STATION ARRIVES!!!”
Izuku looked at the trio and noticed they were wearing Aldera uniforms and were being held back by Iruka. He blinked before running toward them. “Iruka-sensei, Riko, Tsubasa are you all alright?”
“Izuku!” Both students said before looking back at the scene. “We were looking for you before this Villain attacked us and grabbed Bakugou! We don’t know where he came from, he just popped in like a Jack-in-a-Box!”
Unfortunately, I know exactly where he came from. Izuku thought bitterly before looking back at the Villain increasing his hold on Katsuki. He could see him struggling to breathe as he kept blasting wherever he could to get the bastard off of him, but all it did was wrap him tighter like an octopus with its meal.
“Izuku!”
Izuku squeaked and jolted as a hand suddenly grabbed him and held him tightly between large breasts. He looked up and a mixture of confusion and dread filled his insides as the person holding him was his Aunt Mitsuki Bakugou. “Aunt Mitsuki?”
“Izuku, Mochi, are you all right? I heard you got hurt at school. Where is Katsuki?” She said in rapid succession, creating more confusion on the verdanette. When did she care about him? Has she ever cared about him? He doesn’t even remember the feeling of being cared about.
“K-kacchan is over there being surrounded by the Sludge Villain, none of the Heroes here have an advantage over it to save him?” Izuku said before recoiling as he could see rage and fury in Mitsuki’s eyes. He cringed as he saw her move her arm, expecting her to hit him but instead he heard a yelp from Kamui Woods.
“Why haven’t you saved my son, dumbass!!?? My son is dying there!” Mitsuki raged, swinging her iron skillet and threatening to hit him again. “Why aren’t ya moving your asses??”
“You try getting to him with his idiotic Quirk going haywire! He is too volatile!” That resulted in another smack to the head, not even realizing that he had called Katsuki’s Quirk villainous. Mitsuki was about to knock him unconscious before Iruka grabbed her wrist, stopping her from committing murder.
“We need to focus on saving Bakugou, he hasn’t had any air for a while.” Iruka said while he and Mitsuki looked around for something to distract the villain. So far no luck, not even a fire hydrant for Death Arms to tear open so Backdraft could use it to drown the villain.
Izuku stared at the Villain in frustration. Kacchan was dying and it was his fault. He needed to be saved but he had no idea how to save him and the Heroes here were so pathetic and so reliant on their Quirks that once they realized they were useless they became sitting ducks. They had no knowledge of basic tactics.
Something stirred inside Izuku as he saw something in Katsuki’s eyes that made his heart stop. He had a look of pure desperation, his eyes tearing up as he struggled for air and to get this slime off of him. The pain in his eyes triggered the verdanette, it was the look he had when he felt useless, pathetic, helpless…no, he may have broken ties with his former friend but he still refused to allow him to go the dark path Izuku had traveled.
He ran toward the villain, ignoring the screams from Mitsuki and Iruka as he took off his backpack ready for a sneak distraction. “Kacchan!!”
Deku? Katsuki looked in the direction where he called his name and sighed in relief to see him alive but his stomach lurched when he realized the verdanette was coming toward them. You dumbass, don’t come here. RUN! He shook his head as vigorously as he could to give Izuku a hint to just leave him and save himself, but either he didn’t see it or completely ignored his wishes. He watched as Izuku gathered momentum and flung his backpack at the villain, creating a distraction for it to look where the noise was coming from. Screams of pain followed as a book hit him square in their eyes, distracting him enough for the sludge to loosen his hold and free his mouth.
The blonde took a deep, fresh breath of air, relishing it for a half-second before looking at Izuku in shock. “Deku! You idiot, why are you here?” He yelled, staring in disbelief as he tried to grab the slime off of Kacchan enough for him to get free himself. “He will kill you!”
“B-but I don’t want you to-ACK!”
“You pathetic meatsack!” The villain screamed, grabbing Izuku and slamming him against the ground. Izuku screamed as intense pain radiated through his spine, and hearing a few vertebrae crack. “I don’t know what your game is, first you looked like you wanted me to possess you at that blasted tunnel before All Might showed up to save your ass, and now you came to attack me to save this brute?”
So he did try to possess Deku. Katsuki thought as he struggled to get his arms free enough for a good blast. He growled as the villain began to squeeze Izuku tighter, and he could hear bones and joints starting to crack. He flinched as he heard another scream from Izuku as the other arm broke.
“Izuku, Katsuki!”
Katsuki cursed as he heard his mom yell from the crowd, struggling to get free as she was being held back by Iruka-sensei, Kamui Woods, Death Arms, Riko, and Tsubasa. He did not want to see the Hag staring at this pitiful display. He shimmied and wiggled his arms away from him so he wouldn't suffer severe repercussions ready for the strongest blast he can muster with minimal damage to his arms. He had to do something, the Nerd was slowly being killed and he was about to be possessed. The blonde had enough.
Here goes nothing….He said, grunting as he felt the muscles in his arms tense and snap as they prepare for a major strike. He had plenty of sweat in his hands, now it was moving the right amount of lithium to it. “Hey, cumbucket.”
The villain sported a tick mark as the blonde said that, and stared down at him menacingly. “What? You expect your savior to live? Fat chance, he should have ran once All Might saved his pathetic ass. Now he has to-hm?” He stopped as both of the blonde’s palms faced him, sparking and burning a bright yellow in his palms. Behind them was the same blonde smiling wickedly.
“See you on the other side.”
In one massive spark, a massive explosion created a massive shockwave almost as impressive as All Might’s Texas Smash. It caused the villain to disintegrate and splatter everywhere, immediately releasing the two boys which were flung in different directions. Katsuki was flung into a large pile of trash that had been dumped when Death Arms knocked the bin over, ears ringing as his head throbbed like an inflating balloon. He stayed there for a while, pain filled his arms up to his shoulders, he didn’t need to see that they would need to be in casts.
Izuku was flung into one of the building walls, and he gasped as his already abused spine intensified the pain before he landed on the ground. He could feel the wounds that haven’t or barely healed break open again, oozing more blood as he struggled to get some air as his diaphragm became temporarily paralyzed from the blow. He eventually lost consciousness as his body forced it to shut down to increase survival.
The bright side was that Katsuki's blast caused enough of an air draft for the flames nearby to be choked out, allowing Mitsuki and Iruka to run toward them. The female blonde went to her son first to check on his injuries and cringed at the immediate swelling and discoloration of his arms. Katsuki will need to get x-rays and a CT scan to check for nicked arteries and damaged tendons. She came out of her thoughts when suddenly Katsuki let out a gurgled sound and she bent him forward to purge whatever sludge was in his stomach and/or lungs, rubbing his back as he continued for a few moments.
While she was taking care of Katsuku, Iruka was checking over Izuku and he too rubbed his back to get him to respond. His breathing was labored, and his arms had seen better days. He was no doctor but even he could see that the boy needed surgery on them. He needed to find a Medic to get him to the hospital, and quickly.
“Mrs. Bakugou, I will be back in a min. Midoriya is unconscious and needs serious medical attention.” He saw Mitsuki nod as she continued to tend to her son. He was still heaving and gagging but nothing else was leaving him except for his saliva.
“Katsuki, you ok?” She asked, still rubbing his back. “You are sure damn lucky, brat, I don’t need an adult slime to pretend to be my son.”
Katsuki huffed and glared at him. “Like he can possess me. That cumbucket has been sterilized.” He hissed as spasms coursed through his arms. “G-god dammit, I am not looking forward in being wrapped.”
“To be honest I rather have you a mummy than a sludge puppet.” Mitsuki huffed and kept a hand on the boy’s shoulder, refusing to let him move until paramedics arrive. She could tell he was restless, and if it was the same thing she was feeling then she didn’t blame him. The aura surrounding them was feeling thick and suffocating like their day was far from over.
“W-where’s Deku?” Katsuki said suddenly, now looking for a tuft of green as he suddenly remembered that caused a shockwave. Bees were filling his stomach as warning flags filled his mind, and it was making him panic with the weird sensation he never experienced before. “Is he alive?”
“Calm down, Katsuki, he’s unconscious but Iruka is looking for a paramedic.” She replied, the same buzzing feeling flying in her stomach increasing her warnings as well. “We just have to-”
The Bakugou duo stopped suddenly as sounds of cracking and snapping came from above them followed by sounds of falling sand or dust. One massive snap caused them to look up and stare in horror as a large slab from the damaged building broke loose and began to fall…right on top of Izuku.
“NOOOOOO!!!!”
“DEKUUUUUU!!!”
The slab broke apart into smaller slabs as it landed hard from the gravitation, crushing the boy like a press, and blood splattered everywhere, including the face of Mitsuki who tried to get to him in time. Katsuki stared in morbid shock, his mind tuning out the rest of the world as his mind began to replay the death of his childhood friend before eventually screaming in despair. It was my fault.

Reaction: Attempting to ask for a break in your relationship massively back fires against you - something you should've known.
WARNINGS: Toxic Relationship; Abuse; Manipulation.
AN: Please, reblog and give me feedback 😊
–
You: “You know I love you right?” you start, hesitating for a brief moment. “But I think this isn’t working …maybe we should take a break.”
Hawks
“You know what? You’re absolutely right. We really need a good relaxing break, don’t we?” you’re not expecting Keigo to agree with you, and he laughs at the shock on your face. “How do we feel about Hawaii? You always wanted to go there, right?”
Confusion replaces the shock you felt just brief moments ago. You stare at Keigo, bewildered at the strange turn of the conversation.
“What are you talking about?” you question.
“What are you talking about, my adorably confusing girlfriend?” he laughs it off, humorously. “You said we need a break and I totally agree with that. Plus, I think a romantic getaway is just what we need right now, it’s about time we get some vacations.”
“No, Keigo.” you stop him, “What I mean is that we should take a break from each other. Give it some time, y’know.”
There’s a moment of quiet silence and Keigo’s smiles, a stiff and hard smile that does a good job covering up the upset clenching of his jaw.
“Aren’t you being a tad bit dramatic with that? I mean, we’re perfectly totally completely fine, so what’s with that idea?” he questions you. “Why you tryna break something so perfect? Let me guess, attachment issues flaring up?”
“Because it’s not perfect, Keigo.” you answer back, a bit annoyed. “And we’re not fine, despite what you think. If you haven’t noticed, then maybe you’re not very clever, are you?”
That golden gaze, usually so warm, now burns with an intensity that makes your throat tighten and a wave of regret immediately washes over you.
“Yeah, you’re probably right.” he agrees, slowly dragging each word. “Maybe I’m not very clever. Cause if I was more clever, then maybe I would have noticed that you have a tendency to be overly dramatic.”
The turn of the conversation leaves you stunned. What?
“Dramatic?” you echo, forcing your voice to stay steady. “Keigo, we’ve been fighting constantly. You don’t listen, and I feel like I’m—”
“—Like you’re what? Neglected? Trapped?” he cuts you off, before stepping closer, and though his wings didn’t move, you feel their phantom weight pressing down on you. “Babe, everything I do is for you. For us.”
“I work myself to the bone to make sure you have everything you’ve ever dreamed of. Don’t I?” his words pinch your heart. “And this is how you repay me? By wanting space? After everything I’ve done for you?”
“It’s not about what you’ve done, Keigo. It’s about how I feel. I just... need time to think. And maybe so do you.”
“Time to think? What’s there to think about, sweetheart?” he huffs, “Who’s going to protect you, take care of you, if you leave? Hmm?”
His wings extend slightly to frame you both in the narrow hallway.
“Keigo, I—”
“Shh.” He pressed a finger to your lips, his eyes softening into something almost tender. “You’re upset right now, and that’s okay. But leaving isn’t the answer, dove. You belong here. With me.”
Keigo cups your cheek, so tenderly and affectionately that it clenches your heart. His smile returns, warm and reassuring, as if nothing had happened.
“Tell you what - let’s forget all this nonsense. How about I book that trip to Hawaii after all? A fresh start, just the two of us. You’ll see how perfect we are together.”
You want to protest, to grab your suitcase and leave, but his wings curl around you in a protective cocoon, and the weight of his touch - his words - render you paralyzed.
Somewhere deep down, a small voice screams at you to run. But Keigo’s voice, low and honeyed, drowns it out.
“See? Everything’s going to be fine,” he murmurs, pressing a kiss to your forehead. “You don’t need to go anywhere, dove. I’ll make sure of it.”
And you know, with a sinking certainty, that he meant it.
Dabi
The way his ice-blue eyes stare at you is chilling, to say the least. Dabi looks at you intently as if trying to discover something.
“Do you remember when we started dating?” he asks at last, leaving you surprised at the random question. “That night on the rooftop where you become mine.”
You slowly nod, unsure of what he meant. It’s only been six months since your relation became official, but it feels as if it’s been a lifetime ago.
There’s been so many major changes in it - you changed, Dabi changed, everything about your relationship changed. And not for the better.
“Good. Then you also remember when I told you - no - when I promised you that you’d never get fully rid of me, if you said yes. That you’d become mine, til your last breath.” his voice deepens at each step he takes towards you, looming and dark.
“That we’d be intertwined for the rest of our lives. That nothing would stop us from being together, no matter what.”
Shivers run down your spine, and you find yourself paralyzed. Frozen. No matter how much you attempt, your limbs won’t move. You’re completely frozen with fear.
“Then tell me…” Dabi nears you, looking more mutilated and burned than ever. His hand rises, softly brushing against your cheek and it takes everything in you not to flinch away. “... why are you suddenly too good for me?”
“It’s not like that ….”
Your meek attempt of protesting is quickly silenced when his other hand grips you by the elbow, too firm for you to slip away. He cages you with his body and hands and you are too nervous to stop the sweat that builds up in your back.
“Go on now, don’t be shy. I wanna hear all the pathetic excuses you got.” he dryly chuckles, slightly heating up his hand or maybe it’s just an illusion of your body, at this time you’re not sure anymore. “Tell me all about it. I’m looking forward to hearing you spew out all sorts of miserable apologies and justifications you can find.”
“Or maybe you’re planning to use the good old excuse everyone uses these days. It’s you, not me.” Dabi mocks you, but the lack of humor in his voice is evident.
“Dabi, please.” your voice is nothing but a weak frightened whisper, “You’re… scaring me.”
“Good, maybe fear can drill some good sense into that frail mind of yours.” he scoffs. “Cause I believe both of us know where this is headed. You’re not leaving me.”
He doesn’t wait for an answer before continuing, eyes and voice pouring of determination and assurance.
“You can never leave me, no matter how hard you try. I’ll always find you, you know that.” he warns, voice dipping low.
“And you should also be aware that your friends and family are meaningless to me. So, next time you think about pulling a stunt like this I highly suggest you think about their lives. Got it?”
Deku
There are moments when you feel as though luck has abandoned you since you started dating Izuku.
Today is one of them.
It’s partially your fault, had you realized earlier that Izuku came home in a poor pissy mood you wouldn’t have brought the conversation up.
“So, that’s how it’s going to be, huh?” his tone is serious and firm, borderline resentful. “After everything I’ve done for you and yet you are breaking up with me.”
The unnerving stare of the emerald eyes is enough to make you duck your eyes, and the way he’s towering over you, a powerful mass of muscle and scars, makes you hesitant to meet his eyes.
“Izuku, please.” you mutter. “It’s just… It’s for the best.”
“No, it’s not. Why don’t you just say it? That you’re just gonna dump me like I’m a piece of trash that got stuck to your shoe? Like I mean shit to you?” he spits, voice steadily rising and his words are cruel and effective enough to hit you hard and square on where it hurts the most.
“Izu—”
“Is this a joke to you? Huh? Am I a joke to you?” A yelp gets caught up in your throat when his fingers grab your arm. No amount of wriggling and twisting breaks his powerful grip over your wrist, his digits pressing hard against your bone.
“N-No! Of course not! Izuku, I don’t- Please!” your lips quiver as you beg for something. Mercy. Freedom. Salvation. Anything. “Please, let’s just talk this through and—”
“Talk about what, exactly?” Izuku presses further, messy tufts of green hair falling onto his eyes. “On second thought, I do wanna talk about this. I wanna talk about how long these ideas have been pestering your mind. So tell me, sweetheart, how long have you been planning to ditch me to the side like garbage?”
“It’s not like that.” you try, but Izuku barely allows you to say a few words before he’s speaking over you.
“Better yet,” he glares at you, his nostrils flare up and hand dangerously narrows around your hand’s bone. “Who put this stupid idea into your head? Answer me, damnit!”
You shrink at his tone, pathetic and unable to stand up for yourself, as Izuku keeps verbally charging at you.
Something in the back of your mind admonishes you for not sneaking away in the middle of night like a quiet mouse when Izuku would be deep in slumber.
You desolately wish you had done that.

Something about Izuku calling Bakugou his man. Throws up and dies for one thousand years!!!
They don’t have pet names for one another, not really. Kacchan was so deeply rooted into Bakugou’s identity he adopted it as second name. It doesnt fluster him anymore.
He doesn’t call Izuku anything but Deku, - now for the irony of it. His heartbeat gets excited when Izuku says he likes it, — but he’d like to. He was gonna make this dating stuff his bitch.
Izuku takes to calling him sweetheart, thought. It’s also for the irony.
(“No,” Izuku would deny later, convicted and clear, “it’s because you have a sweet heart, and I won’t let it get hurt again.”)
But that’s it. Or so he thought.
It wasn’t until Izuku called him that.
“My man bought me this All Might keychain the other day! Isn’t it so cute?” “My man could do that with his eyes shut and a broken arm.” “If I die, my man’s gonna kill me.”
It’s like a dog whistle. Bakugou would simply fall to his knees and the Bakusquad give one another looks of understanding.
Does Bakugou also purposefully gets himself in potential danger just to hear Izuku’s voice deepen with possessiveness, protectively hold him to his body, shielding him from the threat?
“Get your hands off my man.”
Maybe so.

I think we should stop giving Lance family problems and instead give everyone else family problems and then drag him into all of them as universe's most unpaid and unqualified therapist. As god intended

“When toxic behavior is portrayed as romantic, it’s problematic. When problematic behavior is portrayed as a character flaw for a character to work through, it’s good storytelling.”
Katsuki Bakugou, my friends.
His behavior was problematic but never once portrayed as romantic at the same time. Katsuki said and did awful abusive things, and he also chose to be better when he was given the chance. If you’re still hung up on chapter 1 Katsuki now then I don’t think you’ve been reading the same story I have.
I can’t speak for everyone, but I’m not shipping Izuku with an irredeemable abuser. I’m shipping him with his most important person. His narrative foil. His childhood friend who made awful mistakes and then made it right when he saw he was wrong. The person Izuku looks up to and strives to emulate, despite their past struggles.
Bakudeku is so good because of how flawed these boys are, and how hard they’ve worked to get over it, and how much they matter to each other after it all
#perfect stories about perfect people who never do anything wrong are usually boring#stories about growth and mistakes and redemption and forgiveness and progress are lit#bkdk#bakudeku#the quote is from cinema therapy on YouTube btw#love them so much#they look at media and talk about what is and isn’t good from a real life human perspective#and boy did this quote slap me in the face#anyway this is my thought literally any time anyone says something about shipping Izuku with his abuser#if he was still being abused then I get it#but he’s not#and saying he needs protection from Katsuki is honestly doing his character dirty#and this is not to say that every situation with an abuser and a victim should turn out romantic#obviously not#the world is not black and white and neither are people#sometimes you have to get yourself out and never look back and that is valid and healthy#but sometimes you’re talking about two boys in a manga who literally cannot stop thinking about how good and incredible the other is#bro I get it#surface level chapter/episode 1 Katsuki is literally the worst#but his glow up has been literally meteoric

i hate it when media portrays someone angry about what happened to them or loathing their abuser as someone who's 'letting anger control them' and 'not healing'. i don't see why unequivocally despising and hating the person who hurt you means you aren't/can't be healing. like, why does every character have to forgive and forget to heal? why can't characters just resent their abusive parents while still healing/having healed. why can't they be angry about their traumatic experiences without every other character telling them bullshit like 'you should forgive' or whatever? it's so fucking annoying AND entirely unoriginal.
#at this point i've gotten so sick of it that ive gone the furthest away in the other direction#everyone should behead their abusive parents and anyone who ever hurt them from now actually#dabi#todoroki touya#touya todoroki#todofam in general actually#i dont see why shoto cant still despie endeavor and be angry abt what he did while healing#same w rei fuyumi and natsuo#todoroki fuyumi#todoroki natsuo#todoroki shouto#todoroki rei#jason todd#<-regarding both joker and bruce#midoriya izuku#i have 0 feelings abt him anymore bc he's not even an actual character but he deserved better lol

I think the only reason for Izu to not see the corruption anymore even when he is a prime victim of it...it's bc of bk. Really. Hori went out of his way to make BK "it's not so bad" and did the same for us, AIZAWA and Endy.
Hori shut the victim's voice.
I can say with confidence here...all Izu's issues in writing and outside steem from BK's existence and how much Hori loves him.
Bc there no excuse for a person who was abused 12 years given or take to be so naive. Izu defending ua and Aizawa is baffling as Aizawa wanted to expell him day 1
Izu worshipping am is baffling as am doesn't deserve his adoration bc the man did the abre minium (and that is better than what Inko, his mom, did)
Izu liking A1 is baffling too since they are siding with the abuser.
MHA is a story where the abuser won.
Izu is silent
Shiga is put down bc he is the bad vicitm.
Yeah, the way MHA treats its victims as opposed to its abusers is... Mind boggling.
Touya's backstory retconned so much of the Todoroki lore and anyone can see it was an attempt to make Endeavor look more human. And in the process, Touya and Rei were demonized even more
Bakugou gets sympathy and admiration from everyone. Izuku gets made fun of and ignored. Even when someone does show concern for his well-being, it's either a) never talked about further or b) made into someone else's- Bakugou's- moment
Dabi's reveal ended up resulting in the rest of the Todorokis supporting Endeavor, not a word about Rei's pain or trauma. Nope, she's just there to help Endeavor's redemption
Hawks and Nagant were turned into child soldiers and forced to kill by the HPSC. Do they get autonomy or retribution? Never. Hawks continues to be their brainwashed soldier and Nagant fades into the distance. Even worse, Hawks is used to prop Endeavor's- another abuser- redemption
Eri escaped her abuser so she should be healing in peace, right? WRONG. She mutilates herself for the so-called heroes
Izuku loses OFA, only to comfort Bakugou who's devastated by this for whatever reason even though he was the one who made Izuku feel worthless for being quirkless in the first place
Kotaro is a grown man who purposely abused his children, right? But screw that, Nana is to blame even though she did what she did to protect him. And also, no one told him to abuse his kids
The only ones who are treated fully as abusers are AFO and Overhaul. But, well, we know what a disaster AFO was and how terribly Tomura towards the finish was written so it really didn't matter in the end, did it?
#mha critical#bnha critical#tw abuse#touya todoroki deserves better#izuku deserves better#hawks deserves better#lady nagant deserves better#eri deserves better#nana shimura deserves better#anti bakugou katsuki#anti endeavor#anti enji todoroki#anti kotaro shimura#rei todoroki deserves better#ask

Hori really thought he could have his cake and eat it too by having societal and familial abuse be (poorly) addressed in his manga but let bakugou slide as a gag character even though he too is an abuser.
As a grown man he should know this but either all abuse matters in your work or none of it does bc now you have people trying to justify bakugou's shitty behavior and piss poor "redemption arc" even though izuku hasn't had his opinion as the victim be given weight on page. And don't get me started on how no adults call him out despite teaching future heroes. "But I admire you anyway," and all that ilk isn't forgiveness and isn't bakugou addressing his past as a bully. It's a bullshit platitude that puts a bandaid over the bleeding bullet wound that is izuku and bakugou's writing (heavy on izuku, that poor boy was shafted in his own gd story)
#anti bakugo katsuki#anti bakugou#horikoshi critical#izuku deserves better#anti bakudeku#anti bkdk#look what you did horikoshi#you bonded a poor boy to his abuser and kicked him out of his own story#im so glad i dipped out after their second fight#bc i knew there was no hope for izuku's character or anyone actually giving a shit about bakugou's behavior#and turns out i was right#shout out to the people who do recaps

Not sure why am I doing that it's not as if my words will change anything but here we go...
Why fic writers still insist in make Izu this perpetual kind person who will defend BK from anyone who wants to kill him even if said person sees the extension of his abuse on Izu?
Why this fandom normalize this? Oh I know why. Hori made so and everyone nodded along.
Consider this. Someone makes a fic where Rei Himura befriends someone and that person finds out how Endy was abusive...and she goes on and on how he changed, please don't hurt him.
I know people would be upset.
No one accepts that.
But we do accept this for Izu bc....he is kind(?) what way to weaponize kindness against a victim.
Yes they are all fictional and yes, YOU, can write anything you want...
I'm just tired of this trope.
#hori is a bad writer#a really bad one#but some fic writers are worse#izuku deserves better#mha critical#bnha critical#let Izu be mad#let Izu beat up his abuser#let Rei hate Endy

Hawks
“Y/n is a real clutz, y’know. Can’t even walk on even ground without tripping over her own feet.”
Your cheeks flame with humiliation as the camera pans to the crowd that laughs heartily at the demeaning words, as if Keigo had dropped the funniest joke they’ve ever heard.
“That’s adorable.” the woman laughs, “Maybe it has something to do with the fact that she has no quirk? I believe you said she is quirkless, right?”
Keigo chuckles, nodding as he crosses an ankle over his knee.
“She sure is. Can’t even imagine what type of quirk she’d have, she’s just not the type.”
Your hand grips the remote tighter. What does he mean by that? Does he think you’re not good enough to have a quirk?
You consider turning off the TV, but fortunately the interviewer changes the subject. They casually speak about the current stance of heroes and their struggles on fighting off criminals and villains.
Keigo is charming as usual, delivering answers that are a perfect portrait of responsibility with a sprinkle of humor. He’s good like that, even though his previous answers left a bitter taste in your mouth.
Somehow, they end up reaching the topic of hobbies and free time.
“Going Pro Hero leaves little time for myself, so sadly I don’t really have much time for hobbies. Wish I had.” he says humbly. “My girlfriend has lots of them, though.”
You inhale sharply. Not again.
For your misfortune, the woman gets interested.
Perhaps because it’s an exclusive interview and her network channel gave her orders to squeeze every drop of information they can get on Hawks’ personal life.
“What type of hobbies? She looks like she’s a great cook.” she tries to guess, but Keigo bursts laughing, holding his belly in an exaggerated mannerism.
“Nah, cooking isn’t really her department. Burned eggs and half-cooked pancakes are more her style. She doesn’t even-”
You change channels in a heartbeat, bursting in tears at the low insults.
You’re not that bad. Sure, you’re not amazing at cooking, but never once did Keigo complain when he eats the food you diligently make after he returns from patrols.
And now he slanders you on national television?
And the worst part? It’s not even the first time he’s done this.
Dabi
“There’s nothing to eat in the fridge.”
“There is.”
“There isn’t.”
You stop writing your notes, swallowing back an annoyed sigh, already aware of what was happening.
“There is food in the fridge.” you repeat, “You just have to cook it.”
Dabi looks at you, unimpressed.
“No shit Sherlock. Maybe you can do it for me.”
“You serious?”
Meeting his arrogant smirk, you huff.
“Dead serious, babe. Not like you’re busy anyways.”
Your mouth drops at his audacity and you open your arms to indicate the mess of books, papers and pens in front of you.
“I’m studying, Dabi. Can’t you see that? Grow up and cook for yourself, yeah?” you snap your attention back to your books, but your mood has already turned sour.
You pretend to scribble down a few words when Dabi walks to you slowly. He peeks into your annotations, snorting.
“That handwriting is kinda shitty.” he mocks you. “Besides, what exactly are you even studying for? You’re not exactly cut out to be a doctor, y’know? Not enough brain cells in you to become that.”
You glare at him, angrily swatting away the hand that condescendingly tries to pet your hair.
“You’re such an asshole, Dabi. Maybe if your life revolved around something other than your stupid daddy’s issues, you would actually get a job. Not like Endeavour is worried sick about you, not when he’s got Shoto.” you spit the words venously.
Not the nicest words, but you can’t seem to bring yourself to bother.
A dark shade crosses Dabi’s face, his amused expression turning colder. You’d be lying if the sight didn’t ignite some fear in you.
“Is that so?” his crooked smile doesn’t reach his eyes. “And why would I need a job - or Endeavour, by that matter - when I have you?”
His hand reaches for your shoulder and there’s an edge in his eyes that immobilizes you. You shouldn’t have mentioned Endeavour.
“I’m not with you because of that bitchy attitude, you know. I like my girl to know who’s in charge. Respect is really important in a relationship and your behavior is making me really upset, baby.” his tone is scaringly soft, and his hand travels to your neck.
You hold your breath when the staples on his hand scratch against the delicate skin of your throat. “So, if you need me to remind you of your place, I’ll gladly help you with that.”
His fingers heat up at a low temperature, not enough to actually burn you but it doesn’t stop the lonely tear that slides from your eye, the only sign of the chilling terror you’re feeling.
He leans forward, kissing your forehead before sliding his hand away.
“Are we understood?”
The nod you give him is shaky at best, but Dabi smiles nonetheless.
“Now, how about that food you’re gonna make me?”
Bakugo
“I have to wake up early tomorrow.”
Besides a low hum, Bakugo doesn’t acknowledge you much, too busy French kissing your neck.
His hands head for your ass, provoking a wince in you when he gropes it with unnecessary strength, your left ass cheek being kneaded like it’s dough.
Katsuki uses his grip on your ass to push your hips forward even as you complain again. The thin fabric of his sweatpants does nothing to hide the hardness that shamelessly rubs against your thigh.
“Katsuki.”
Once again he gives no sign of hearing you, rolling his hips with more urgency and you barely catch the tired groan that almost rolls away from you.
The clock on your side reminds you that despite the early hour, you’ll only have 6 hours to sleep.
You really have to sleep and if you’re being honest, tonight you’re not feeling sexy or horny enough to sleep with your boyfriend.
But that doesn’t make you feel any less awkward when Bakugo’s movements turn more vigorous and needy, humping your naked thigh as if he’s fucking it while you remain as alive as a statue.
“Fuck, this isn’t enough.” he growls against your skin, and your heart skips a beat when his hands reach for your shorts, tugging them down halfway until you panickedly grab his wrist, wiggling your body away from his.
“Seriously, Kats, I’m not in the mood tonight.” you say, quickly pulling back your shorts.
“You fuckin’ serious right now?” he growls through gritted teeth, still hovering above you.
Crossing your arms over your chest, you timidly nod.
“Maybe we can do this tomorrow? It’s just that-”
“Yeah, whatever. Not like you haven’t used that stupid excuse on me before.”
Your eyebrows raise with surprise at the bitter tone on his voice as he gruffs, pushing himself off you.
“I’m not making up excuses.”
“The hell you aren’t.” he looks at you, angry. “Every time I try to start something, you turn into a damn nun. Always too freakin’ tired, too busy or not in the mood.”
He scowls, spiky blonde hair falling to his eyes.
“All you have to do is open your goddamn legs and let me do the rest, and you can’t even do that.”
His words hit a sore spot and he turns his back on you, settling on the distant side of the bed after delivering strained punches to the pillow to soften it up.
“Maybe I go after those Dynamite's groupies that are always throwing themselves at me. Since you never want to fuck anymore.”
You’re left too stunned to speak, sadness blossoming at the cruel meaning of his words and it’s a struggle to swallow the tears.
He wouldn’t really, would he? But your mind lingers on the disturbing thought. He’s popular with girls, even with his angry mood.
Bakugo is tall, muscular and not even the ever present scowl in his face is able to contradict the attractive facial features he’s been blessed with. Meanwhile you’re just mediocre, if even that...
Your insecurities strike back, taunting you.
Your hand reaches for his arm before you even realize it, and you’re mildly surprised when he doesn’t shake you off.
“The hell you want now?”
Pulling on his arm until he finally turns to the side, you kiss him.
He groans against your lips, allowing your hand to rest on the warm plane of his chest and you let it slide lower until it touches his clothed member.
Neither of you speak a word, but you feel Bakugo smirking against your lips while he practically shoves your shorts down.
You allow yourself go limp underneath him, letting your boyfriend fuck you in the way he wants to. Holding back a tired sigh when the fluorescent numbers on the clock mock you.
You really have to wake up early.
Deku
“Are you serious, Izuku?”
The tall hero jumps, eyes widening almost comically when he realizes you’re standing on the bedroom’s doorway and not cleaning the kitchen, like he clearly assumed you to be.
“I wasn’t- The phone-” he stammers with his words, plowing your phone onto the bed with a bit too much force.
Crossing your arms, you flash him a frustrated glare.
“You promised me you wouldn’t spy on my phone anymore, Izuku.” your stern tone has him frowning and Izuku practically sprints closer to you.
“I wasn’t spying! I was just- just checking the time.” his words aren’t convincing enough for you to actually believe in him.
You squint your eyes at him, dodging his grabby hands with a nasty slap, despite the hurt expression on his face.
“Izuku.”
“I wasn’t! C’mon, you gotta believe in me.”
You don’t.
“Even if I did go through your phone - which I didn’t - why would that be such a problem?” he complains, dragging his voice. “Do you have something to hide or what?”
You point a warning finger at him.
“Don’t you dare. This isn’t about me. You’re the one who went behind my back because you’re just too insecure to fully trust me.”
He shakes his head, emerald eyes turning feverish.
“You’re being dramatic, of course I trust you.”
“You don’t, stop lying.”
“I do trust you!” his voice rises in volume.
“No, you don’t!” you scream, voice breaking before you crumble in tears.
You’re exhausted. Of arguing, of dealing with Izuku, of everything. When did things turn so frustrating, so tiring? Why does he always have to ruin things for you?
Izuku curses under his breath before rushing to you, engulfing you in a comforting embrace as you cry on his chest.
“You don’t. You never will and I know that.” he stays silent, not contradicting you this time.
He lets you cry on his chest, his hand gently caressing your hair as he mutters apologies.
“I’m sorry, I’m so so sorry.” Izuku hugs you harder, arms tightening around you. “I’ll do better, okay? I promise, I will.”
And like a fool, you accept his promise - even if you know it’s meant to be broken.

BNHA does TikTok trends: candy salad trauma dump 🍬
inspired by @weewoow-20706030's post
READ AT YOUR OWN RISK.
-------
@.minatheealienhero posted a new video!
Transcription:
"Hi! I'm Midoriya, and when I was 14 I was told to kill myself, suffocated and almost killed by a slime villain, and told I would never be a hero in the same day."
...
"Midoriya, the candy."
"Oh, right, and I brought Twizzlers!"
-
"I'm Bakugo Katsuki, when I was 17 my heart exploded and I died. I didn't bring anything and I'm leaving now."
"Thanks for participating!"
"Fuck you."
-
"Hey! I'm Red Riot, and I watched one of my teachers die in front of me. I brought Crimson Riot gummies!"
-
"I'm Denki! I once fried my brain during battle and was legally dead for seven minutes. The video of it went viral and my uncensored corpse was on the cover of a magazine. I brought skittles!"
"He has it framed in his office."
"Well, it's funny now."
-
"Hey everyone! I'm Uravity, and when I was 16 a girl sacrificed her life for me and I watched her die while her quirk kept me alive. I brought gummy bears!"
-
"I'm Shouto. My father's family bought my mother for her quirk-
-I was burned with boiling water-
-he died, or we thought he did. I'll get back to that later-
-severely isolated, at least according to my therapist-
-he tried to kill me, which was unfortunate-
-but then I had to fight him even though he's my brother-
-I mean and he was basically just a skeleton at that point but somehow still lived-
-and he said 'soba' which was heartbreaking,-
-but I don't really remember a lot of it. So there's not much else I can tell you. Oh, and I brought these strawberry candies. They're my favorite."
"Great, thanks."
"Why are you crying?"
"Why aren't you?!"
-
"-the red button, yeah like that! Okay so I'm Mina, and when my quirk manifested I gave my mother an acid burn that permanently disfigured her, and I can count on one hand the amount of words she's spoken to me since. And I brought whoppers!"
-
"My name is Shinsou, I brought... I don't know what these are but Denki said they're good. Anyway, when I was little my biological parents muzzled me and kept me locked in the basement for two years."
-
"Hi! I'm Jirou, and I had part of my ear ripped off mid-battle and still had to fight while in excruciating pain. I brought nerds."
"...I also had to listen to Denki do karaoke the other night. That was really traumatizing"
"Kyoka, shut up!"
"Learn how to sing!"

Howdy, Syn! Hope you’re doing well. I’ve got a fun little ask for you:
If you’ve got some spare time on your hands, I was wondering if there was a little (non-spoilery) detail in—well, any of your stories, I’m obsessed with all of them—that you really enjoy but don’t think anyone’s picked up on yet. If there is, I’d love to hear any ramblings on it 👀
Have a good one!
This ask is ages old but I’m working on chipping away at my backlog little by little. Since I’m in a pez dispenser debris kick right now, let’s look at that.
I honest to God can’t remember if I’ve discussed this before, so sorry if it’s redundant, but one of the main points of pez dispenser debris is that the conflict is Man v. Self to the exclusion of all else.
Like, to an extent, there’s a secondary conflict of Man v. Society, but that 1) primarily (but not entirely) exists in Izuku’s past and 2) feeds into the Man v. Self conflict by being the primary driver behind both Izukus’ actions.
I decided to eschew any kind of genuine conflict between Izuku and the people in his life because I didn’t for a second want the narrative to get confused by considerations about whether it was safe to have told his loved ones about his past.
I very easily could have chosen to explore a plot line where the people around him feel betrayed or question him. At the very least, Mirio could have had a moment of “what the fuck, man, I’ve spent my whole career being looked down on as the world’s Quirkless hero and you didn’t think to fucking mention you grew up Quirkless?”
Close to the entire class has been vulnerable with him. Todoroki told him about being abused his entire childhood. He knows about Uraraka’s financial traumas. Iida nearly killed that guy the one time. Kirishima made him look at that suspicious bump in the unfortunate place.
These are kids who have spent the past three years in the trenches together. They’ve been in actual, life or death scenarios since the age of 14-15, and the only thing that they could count on was each other. And then here they are, at the very end of it all, and they find out that the guy they’ve been trusting with their back the whole time seemingly didn’t trust them enough to tell them a single detail of his life before they met him.
They could have been a little more conflicted about the revelation. At the very least, they could have questioned deeper how their friend went from 0 Quirks to a suspicious amount of Quirks when they spent their entire time at school with Guy Whose Entire Thing Is Transferring Quirks And Like. Trying to Murder Kids Who Are Specifically Them took personal issue with every single field trip they’ve ever had.
But every single outside POV is like “obviously we can trust him. It’s Midoriya. Anywho I will now be questioning my own character because he can’t be the problem so it must be me.”
If I explored plot points like that, it would have divided the conflict’s attention between Man v. Self and Man v. Man. The plot would have to devote time and focus to resolving Izuku’s issues with his loved ones and regaining their trust, and that would have detracted from a major theme of this fic, which is that this wasn’t about not trusting the people around him. He didn’t tell them because of an internalized issue.
Midoriya trusted his friends with his life. This wasn’t about fear of them rejecting him because he grew up Quirkless. The conflict is with himself.
I also eliminated sources of external conflict by having it all come out to the entire class all at once. I didn’t want to waste plot resources on what Izuku would naturally do in this situation, which is try to hide the little shit by all means necessary and quarantine his very existence. There would be too much time and energy wasted on slowly revealing the truth to select members of the class one by one.
And don’t get me wrong, that could have been an interesting plot—it just wasn’t the one I wanted to write.
This fic is about having to grapple with the part of yourself that is still hurt and angry about it. The part that cannot process the past to the point where you fear it endangers your future. You want your trauma to just go away and not exist anymore, because things are better so it means you shouldn’t have to be them anymore.
The older Izuku wants the younger one to be gone. He wants him to, at the very least, stop talking about what happened in the past and accept the future for how it is, because he doesn’t want to lose what he’s gained. But in doing so he mirrors the denial of self his younger counterpart is being far more explicit about.
Because both versions of Izuku are refusing to believe the other is them.
Young Izuku is doing it in a very literal way. That guy ain’t me. He killed and replaced me. There is absolutely no way I am him. He refuses to accept that there is any version of him who could become like his older self.
But the older Izuku is doing the same thing, just in a less literal sense. Hes almost acting like his old self is somehow legitimately a distinct entity. He slips and says it to Aizawa—stop looking at me like I’m him. The older Izuku wants to just bulldoze over his past and pretend like it doesn’t belong to him, but it just doesn’t work that way.
That’s the conflict I wanted to capture for this fic. Just this absolute refusal to reconcile your past and your future because to do so would require processing the trauma you’ve been through. And so I cauterized off all other sources of conflict, because they’d just detract from what needed to be center stage.
#pez dispenser debris#Midoriya Izuku#a lot of people in the comments are telling the younger Izuku to just accept that that’s him but like. older Izuku needs the same message#I find the interaction between izuku and aizawa so fascinating really#Izuku just wants to let this all go#tiny Izuku isn’t really a person he’s a quirk manifestation so there’s no crime to investigate#but he is a person#he is exactly who Izuku used to be#and that’s one of the reasons why aizawa can’t let it go#that’s one of his fucking kids#and they once hurt impossibly badly#and he cannot let that go#fundamentally both versions of Izuku are approaching the other from a place of unspeakable pain that has no real direction#young Izuku is in the hurt#every single day is suffering#he has had to fight to be alive and it’s just. not. fair.#no other kid has to justify their existence and he has to fight for his#every single person in his life save his mom seems to think the world would be better off if he was dead#and he hurts his mom every time she sees how people treat him#he is desperately trying to find a single fucking sign that his existence is worth something and there just isn’t anything#and then he wakes up and actually he’s the most beloved boy alive#it’s just that you know that reason the whole world wanted you dead? yeah they were so right about that. you’re actually only worth#something as Quirk Jesus. really this isn’t proving you right it’s proving everyone who ever hurt you right. be happy champ you made it#you know except for all the ways you didn’t#except older Izuku is approaching this as the guy who has felt every ounce of pain the younger version has felt with five more years stacked#on top. he pulled himself out by his fucking fingernails. he fought to live and he did that. he fucking did that. he has spent his /entire#life/ struggling. and he made it. somehow he made it. and no one gets to judge him for what it took to get there because he fucking did this#but then. suddenly he’s being dragged back down to how it used to be.#he’s had less than three years of being /happy/. he spent /fifteen years/ eating abuse#who wouldn’t be terrified at the idea of any of that coming back?
