Chess head canons time for your Arthuriana muses!! Who are the best and worst players? Who flips the board over as soon as they notice they're losing? Who eats the chess pieces? Who would be the best teacher for others?

din is hands down the best player among the muses. people don't take him serious enough & he plays the role of the silly knight quite convincingly . he also would make for a great teacher .

after years of playing chess arturia has become quite good at it - she does have a mind for strategy but there are still a good bunch of people that can best her ( mainly, she is good at strategy when it comes to real battles, chess can bore her easily if her company can't keep her interest ) . she has on a few occasions used her cape to swipe the board away when playing with kay though - an accident every time as she assures him .

lily has tried so hard & is doing her best to learn but she will eat the pieces ..... it's boring & she has a hard time sitting still.

similarly to arturia his skill with chess comes from practice & time . in contrast to her he really enjoys it & has used it quite a few times for bets against others . a little 'if I win you do ( xxx ) & if you win I do ( xx )"

headcanon time for lily . she has a bit of a bad habit of not being able to tell when an enemy is truly dead / defeated & getting too cocky being all "yay ! master we did it!" turning around & for said enemy to attack again . ... needless to say it isn't too uncommon that she needs healing after fights ( also due to some reckless fighting habits ) but at times it is even bad enough for chaldea to have to summon her back because she got defeated herself .

since lily is often regarded as just "a younger artu.ria" she has no problems interacting with the kot.r because ! whose gonna know she isn't. that she's just a concept filled with peoples hopes & dreams for her to act the way she wants ...not like any of them met their king at that age. the exception are knights ( like kay ) who would be able to call her out on it being a lie & she avoids those. something in her brain worries she'll be regarded a disappointment.

just need to emphasize again that lily & art.uria are two different people & that even ar.turia in her younger years would act differently ( even if she has her gremlin moments but that's just what happens when mer.lin helps raising you ).

speaking of the battle of cam.lann - lily remembers it ( to a degree ) she has most of artu.ria's memories though she experienced them like a third person & they aren't very clear to her . she pretends that it's not the case . that she does not know of the king's life . she lets people believe that she really is just a younger version ( those who actually knew art.uria during that age would know she is lying because they behave vastly different ) . but as said in previous headcanons, she is actually more like an amalgamation of hopes & dreams people had for ar.turia - most importantly the thoughts & prayer around the fall of ca.melot every 'what could we have done differently' every regret from people who knew that the king mostly wore a facade & for her to not have to do so even as she faced death, every 'should we have raised her differently' ... that's what makes lily herself. she can hear those regrets. & as ar.turia died & wondered if she could have somewhere saved ca.melot, if maybe she had lived a more authentic life ( in her head she did not live such a life ) that's when lily really took shape as a concept that could later appear in cha.ldea.
