#TBT I’m still buzzing from the #AbhijataIyengar Yoga Convention in Cocoyoc, Morelos, Mexico. She taught with such super-shakti power I felt a deep dose for my practice and learning.⁣ ⁣ She shared dynamic movements, strengthen awareness and encouraged curiosity in exploring the path of practice. ⁣ ⁣ It was a wonderful gathering of practitioners from all the Americas (north, central and south) in a wonderful hacienda retreat setting @hcocoyoc. Great food and venue, and a really fun mariachi band at then end 🤠 🎺 🇲🇽. My insta friend Jo @bpiyoga invited me to her January challenge which includes variations of sun salutations. The idea was inspired by Abhijata Iyengar while Jo spent the past month in Pune, India. I wish I can go one day! In the mean time, here is a quick demonstration of Surya Namaskara (sun salutation) based on the syllabus in the Preliminary Course book and courtesy of RIMYI (Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute) and Geeta S. Iyengar. The first cycle has the asanas and their names and the second shows only the asanas and is sped up to fit into IG's video limit. The cycle can be repeated many times and "the practice of theses sun salutations is well-known to give mobility, alertness, speed, sharpness and freedom while developing will power and strength." -The Preliminary Course has lots of great material to learn the introductory asanas and can be ordered from the IYNAUS website. I'll post another video soon of the advanced Surya Namaskara (with proper breathing action) as shown in the Intermediate Course-I book.
