you don't have to if you don't want to but i'd kill to hear more about the adventure lore!

:D OK so here's what I know so far

(I haven't gone to Kongri-la or Monkitropolis so I'll probably add those later once I've gotten to those parts and because I wanna avoid spoilers)

Basically, you have to bring happiness to the islands (which can be done by completing missions)

There's also Naysayers around that you gotta kill. Also, Princess Dee Dee and Prince AbeABE are getting married, even though the Kingdoms they're from are rivals (Kongri-la and Monkitropolis)

In Moonhaven (which is the second world I went to) the automations are down, so all the big monkeys (they call them big'uns) work to keep the place going. Otherwise, Moonhavel will fall from the sky (since it's a sky island)

In Zootopia (where I'm at rn in fact I just started last night) it's a theme park, and it used to be a fun place for monkeys to go to, but it was taken over by Fat Cat, who only cares about money. Also, none of the kids want to even be here, and yet they have been trapped for six months (since everything is automated)

Ok, so I've figured out the lore for each world:

Jungle Island -> Princess Dee-dee and Prince AbeABE both ran from their homes and landed on Jungle Island. They landed on Distant Island (part of Jungle Island) and swiped a bunch of other people's items for disguise (their hat, bow, spectacles, an earring), and upon landing other people there each had a new problem: Dada's daughter Tootoot went missing, Owow's bees flew off, someone stole Perper's lunch, etc (not exactly lore for the island itself, this just sets up the plot for the game).

Moonhaven -> Everyone is afraid of the automations, which is why everyone's so worried about making sure they're running properly. They want to keep Moonhaven hidden and safe. They've been living in fear for years but eventually they realize this and that they're just there to help them, plus they can learn how they work. Ch'chi is one of the monkeys who got over her fear of the automations, so she teaches the schoolchildren how they work.

Zootopia -> The park is basically run by robots now, and Ma and Pa d'kee wanted it to be where people can't leave until they've had "the right amount of fun", however with all the rides being automated, this caused everyone to be stuck for months, leaving everyone miserable and desperate to get out (somehow they're still alive despite being stuck for weeks).

Monkitropolis and Kongri-la -> both of these kingdoms despise each other, which creates a conflict especially when each has one of their children who love each other. Both see each other as monsters because of their disguises (until AiAi loses his shit and yells at them over it). They blast noise towards Kongri-la as an attempt to keep them out of Monkitropolis for example (eventually they learn that they're all monkeys and so they reunite and no longer view each other as monsters).

Thinking about whether or not the Naysayers were actually necessary for the plot of SMBA

While they were a good concept for some sort of obstacle for the player to face, that's really their only purpose in the entire game. All we know about them according to the king from Jungle Island is that when Princess Dee Dee and Prince AbeABE came to Jungle Island they attracted the Naysayers, who suck the joy out of others

Again, it was a cool concept, but the plot would have still worked without them. It would still be something like you have to invite everyone to the wedding but solve their problems first (which raises joy in that world) and resolve the conflict between Monkitropolis and Kongri-la.
