You know what's really rubbing salt into this wound? There is a recent Try Guys upload where because Alex is supposed to be getting married, was featured in a video where the guys had to purchase bridesmaid dresses and their engaged staff and respective partners had to select a winner for best outfit and that person was effectively to become their bridesmaid pick.

Ned literally wore a bridesmaid dress, for FUN, FOR the employee he cheated on his wife with, whom is also ENGAGED, AND had been creating content around her upcoming wedding on the channel as well. What. The. Fuck.

[Edit: Now that we know Ned and Alex have been together since at least December 2021 (when Alex's partner found pics + vids of them on her phone and asked Ned to back off--he did not), and the video mentioned above came out in February 2022...

I wanna say something and all I ask is that you read the whole thing before burning me at the stake.

There are always horrible things happening. There are always ppl who are suffering and dying. There are always corrupt politicians. There are always human rights violations. There are always tragedies. There is always misinformation and exploitation. War is always looming on the horizon or busting in the back gate. The world is always fucked up.

That fact does not mean that the lives affected matter any less than our own. It does not mean that we don't do what we can to help. It does mean that we cannot afford to put our lives on hold while a horrible thing consumes us.

I'm sure that, if your parent/sibling/partner/best friend had a medical emergency, you would gladly do whatever you needed to do to be there. I'm sure that you would sacrifice sleep, skip meals, call in to work, and be by their side until they were stable. You can afford to do that when those emergencies are infrequent and relatively brief.

You cannot do that with the world's emergencies. They are not infrequent. They are not relatively brief. You have to sleep, eat and shower. You have to pay your bills. You have to survive.

Daily life goes on.

It feels unjust. Of course it does. How can you possibly go about the mundane like nothing's going on? You Don't. You go about the mundane like there are horrible things happening. You make the adjustments you can sustain without sacrificing your well-being. You make drastic changes for as long as you can, when you simply can't take it anymore, and then you step back, take a breath, and go grocery shopping. You have to. If you don't, you won't survive the horrible thing.

No one who is going thru a horrible thing wants you to self-destruct. There's so much good you can do over the course of your life if you maintain that life. Adding your name to the list of casualties will prevent all of that good from happening. You have to survive.

And that includes the things that seem optional, bc those things aren't actually optional at all. You need to laugh. You need to watch movies and love your pets and go for walks. You need food that tastes good and clothes that make you feel confident. You need that show you'll regret not seeing. You need to get takeout and take naps. You need to have the weight lifted frequently, so you can heal the parts of you that get worn.

If you aren't living as well as you can, while making adjustments you can afford to make, you will not survive.

Please survive.

Okay so this is just a little thing because I've seen people talk abt it all over my dash, and it's very, very true. Now, my tumblr blog isn't exactly popular, so comments, reblogs and any interaction here is a really nice surprise, but I'm here to talk about AO3.

More specifically, the lack of comments on any of my fics. And mind you, this isn't me complaining, it's a genuine concern that I've seen be talked about and agree with. Fandom cannot survive purely on hits and kudos. Say it with me, louder for the people in the back. For example, I post plenty of fics. Crack, angst, AUs, whatever you can think of. And recently I've been getting...silence.

Just silence. Hits and kudos still come like normal, but the usual buzz of even those few commentors who leave a couple words consistently is...gone, now. It's like I'm throwing my works into a deep dark void, where they might sometimes collide with something, but there's nothing on the other end. Not a word to say "I liked this" or "Hmm this ain't my cup of tea". It's...disheartening. Because over the years I've been on Ao3, I've gotten a few people who frequently comment on a fic. Maybe it's a specific they're following, maybe it's a bunch of my crack fics. Doesn't matter.

Point is, to put yourself out there through any medium and just get nothing in return...well, it doesn't feel good. This isn't a "me" thing either, like I said my dash is full of people having the same problem. Guys. Even the simplest little comment, literally five words to say "Hey, I liked this fic!" is enough. It's better than silence. It's better for an author than for their works to be tossed into the void alongside another 10.000 fics that get posted every day.

So please. If you're a reader, if you have a fic that you love and enjoy going through, take a moment out of your day to go down to the comments and say hi. Go tell that author that you like the way they write, that you enjoyed their analysis of a character. Go and keyspam in their comment section because the chapter you just read has left you screaming. Go and comment on a specific scene. Trust me, we love any kind of comment. Personally, I make a habit of responding to almost (if not) all of them, and I'm sure other authors do the same. So go out there and leave a comment!
