FROM PUBLIC MOURNING TO PUBLIC CELEBRATION ✨
—15 January 1972: Little under a day after her father, King Frederik IX, had died and she had become Denmark's first official female monarch, 31-year-old Margrethe II was proclaimed Queen from the balcony of Christiansborg Palace by Prime Minister Jens Otto Krag.
—14 January 2024: Little under an hour after his mother, Queen Margrethe II, had signed a declaration of her abdication at a Council of State – becoming the first Danish monarch in 878 years to do so – 55-year-old Frederik X was proclaimed King from the balcony of Christiansborg Palace by Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.

“100 percent margrethe stepped down because of Fredricks affair. It makes Mary stay.!!” - Submitted by Anonymous
“It's very obvious Margrethe is abdicating to distract from Frederik's affair. Somebody has to save his marriage.” - Submitted by Anonymous
“Really surprised to get an abdication update from QMII so close to Frederik's cheating scandal.” - Submitted by Anonymous
“I do think Frederick's scandal was a triggering factor for Margrethe's abdication. There's obvious a plan ready in case a Monarch abdicates (just like if he/she dies). So yes, QMII easily could took the decision a month ago, and obviously the parliament and the Royal court know what to do.” - Submitted by Anonymous

QUEEN MARGETHE II OF DENMARK ABDICATES
The world's only Queen regnant announced in her live broadcast New Year's Speech that she intends to abdicate in favour of her son, Frederik (who will become Frederik X of Denmark) on 14 January 2024 – the 52nd anniversary of her ascension to the throne.

In February this year I underwent extensive back surgery. Everything went well, thanks to the competent health personnel, who took care of me. Inevitably, the operation gave cause to thoughts about the future – whether now would be an appropriate time to pass on the responsibility to the next generation. I have decided that now is the right time. On 14th January, 2024 – 52 years after I succeeded my beloved father – I will step down as Queen of Denmark. I will hand over the throne to my son Crown Prince Frederik.

A sweet moment between Queen Margrethe II, Prince Joachim and Crown Prince Christian of Denmark (likely triggered by the towering height of the 18-year-old Crown Prince) at the Danish Parliament's celebration of King Frederik X's accession to the throne on 15 January 2024 ✨

What did the Prime Minister say when introducing the new king? Tusind tak fra dig hjælp. P.S. Started learning Danish last year because of the DRF, I am a slow learner so hope my sentence was correct.
Aw, good luck on learning Danish!
I couldn't find an official translation, so I translated the Danish version myself:
Today is Sunday the 14th of January 2024. Her Majesty Queen Margrethe the Second has abdicated. On behalf of the entire Kingdom, I want to offer Queen Margrethe my deepest and sincerest gratitude. Thank you for carrying the legacy, for your commitment and responsibility. Thank you for connecting us to the past and preparing us for the present. Thank you for making an effort. And much more. Every queen and ever king is a link in a more than thousand year old chain. When one retires, the next is ready. And the Crown Prince, who will now be our regent, is a King that we know. A King that we love. A King that we trust. As we welcome Denmark's new head of state. And wish happiness upon his life and work – and thus for Denmark – I must, in accordance with Danish state custom, thrice proclaim: Her Majesty Queen Margrethe the Second has abdicted. Long live His Majesty King Frederik the Tenth! Her Majesty Queen Margrethe the Second has abdicted. Long live His Majesty King Frederik the Tenth! Her Majesty Queen Margrethe the Second has abdicted. Long live His Majesty King Frederik the Tenth! A ninefold cheer for His Majesty the King: HURRAH HURRAH HURRAH HURRAH HURRAH HURRAH HURRAH HURRAH HURRAH

Note
queen margrete is ill thats why she retire
There's really no way for us to know that.
For all either of us know, Frederik could be the one who's ill and QMII abdicated because she wants to make sure he gets to succeed to the position she has prepared him for all his life before he dies (yes, the thought is morbid – but not any more so than speculating about whether QMII is gravely ill) 🙃
Additionally, I don't think we should underestimate just how painful back pain can be. My mum has spinal arthritis and she literally cannot walk sometimes. I don't think adding 25 years helps.

If we just ignore Frederick, we can just pretend Mary is Queen Regnant 😭😭😭
Denmark will have a Queen Margrethe and a Queen Mary 😍
And a CROWN PRINCE Christian 🍾

is Margarethe ill or just feeling the strain after her surgery and the public backlash after removing Joachim's kids princely titles? She seemed to determined to stay on the throne as long as possible. But. QUEEN MARY! SHE DESERVES THIS
I'm sorry but this "public backlash" is simply non-existent. People felt the issues regarding the titles were handled wrong but the most recent polls not only show that QMII is just as popular as M&F but also that she by far is people's favourite member of the family.
I prefer not to speculate about the exact reasons for her decision. All I can say is that as late as in 2019, she is still quoted as refusing the idea of an abdication with the only exception being if she became "hopelessly ill". That's not to say that she's got one leg in the coffin but tonight I noted that she looked like she was in pain and I suppose being "hopelessly" ill can also be in terms of not being able to fulfil ones duties anymore.

I'm shocked😭 I DID NOT expect that! But fred doesn't seem ready in my opinion
How so? Is he less ready (in terms of being a bit of a twat) than Charles or WA? Is he less ready (in terms of maturity) than QMII was when she became queen? 🤷‍♀️
Barring a practically unthinkable collapse of the monarchy (unthinkable as even after the Madrid hullaballoo, the DRF – including Frederik – enjoys approval ratings most monarchies would kill for), Frederik X's reign will be entirely as insignificant as those following legendary monarchs often have been (think Frederik I and Frederik VIII).
Personally, I'm sad because 1.) I think abdication is a stupid concept and QMII has been very vocal about sharing that sentiment, and 2.) I think Daisy was doing perfectly fine. No need to change something that works. For as long as she lives, she will be my Queen regnant.
