#FBF "Breakin" ~ (SWIPE) Classic dance scene... Turbo got a chance to get his shine with his solo dance routine. After the 80's, hip-hop classic B-Boy film, "Beat Street" dropped, the West Coast had to respond with its Pop Lock version of the art form. More known for Popping and Locking, California couldn't pass up on the opportunity to be pinned on the map. The duo of break dancers, Turbo (Michael "Boogaloo Shrimp" Chambers) and Ozone (Adolfo "Shabba Doo" Quiñones), would grace the silver screen twice showcasing their awesome skills and signature techniques thereby representing culture well in this first of two films. This 1983 classic would be the inspiration for many aspiring break dancers... “You’re Sorry Now” ~ Zhané #FBF… From their 1994 debut album, “Pronounced Jay-Nay.” The Temple University, R&B duo, Renée Neufville and Jean Norris, would find their home amongst legends of the hip-hop collective, Native Tongues. In fact, most of the songs on the album were produced by co-crew members, Naughty by Nature. Providing that needed soulful flavor gave their tracks a true hip-hop edge. Other singles such as, “Hey Mr. DJ”, “Vibe”, “Sending My Love” and “Groove Thing” would also fair well with the R&B community earning the ladies a much deserved platinum plaque. “Ascension (Don’t Ever Wonder)” ~ Maxwell #FBF… The second release from his 1996 debut album, “Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite.” Brooklyn native, Gerald Maxwell Rivera, is commonly known as one of the pioneers of the Neo Soul movement. His rich, sultry vocals placed him along side the likes of singers such as Marvin Gaye… thereby launching him to sex symbol status. Maxwell’s second single proved to be a welcoming addition to his first and perfect prelude for his third release from his debut album. #FBF "Rocky III" ~ (1982) Boxing's bad boy, Clubber Lang (Mr. T), ripped the highly contested title belt from the champion, Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone). After Rocky's trainer, Mickey died and he was beaten to a pulp by Clubber, he decided to give up on the sport. To everyone's surprise, in stepped his old nemesis, Apollo Creed, to the rescue. With a few magical words of encouragement and a few humbling moments, Apollo snapped Rocky out of his downwardly spiraling funk and trained him like he'd never been trained before. Unlike past bouts, this time he would be fighting the match of his lifetime. But, there was one catch... this "favor" would be free and came with a catch. Apollo let Rocky know that after the big fight, he would "owe him one." Once again, Rocky faced Clubber Lang in the ring for the belt. However, Rocky would be the victor this time. “Get On Up” #FBF… Starring the Chadwick Boseman… The 2014 biopic of the life and times of the ‘Godfather of Soul’ aka 'Mr. Dynamite’ aka 'Soul Brother No. 1’ aka the legendary… James Brown. This would be Boseman’s breakout movie. Originally titled “Superbad,” Spike Lee was set to direct the flick in 2006. However, licensing issues caused the film’s production and release to be delayed. Although it received mixed reviews and utilized some creative control by including some fictitious events, it was entertaining and exciting nonetheless. Besides… It made a (small) profit… And making money is always good. Chadwick would go on to land roles in seven additional films, including the title character of former Supreme Court Justice and civil rights leader, Thurgood Marshall in “Marshall” and his most memorable role as T'Challa in Marvel’s “Black Panther.” Unfortunately, he loss his four year bought with colon cancer yesterday. Stars and fans took to social media expressing their love and condolences for him and his family. Having passed at such an early age, Boseman left us with a few good flicks to keep his fledgling legacy going. Rest easy young man!!! 👊🏾✌🏾#thatsmyjam #abcfbf 🎶📻 💿

But, genius songwriter, Patrice Rushen gets the claim to fame for this timeless track. Her 1982 hit album, “Straight from the Heart” would be her most successful album to date… Including two Grammy nominations, a few Billboard chart toppers and umpteen covers and samples. Her catalog is extensive. It spans 14 albums and a multitude of hits from her early Jazz pieces to her more uptempo, dance tracks.
