“The Replacement Replacement,” Guitarist Bob “Slim” Dunlap, Dies at 73
Bob “Slim” Dunlap, the guitarist known as “the replacement Replacement,” has died, according to media reports.
Dunlap, 73, reportedly died Dec. 18 of complications stemming from a debilitating 2012 stroke.
“He was a great one,” Aaron Lee Tasjan wrote on social media is praising the former Replacements guitarist.
Dunlap joined the band in 1987, taking over for Bob Stinson and appearing on the Don’t Tell a Soul and All Shook Down albums.
Dunlap was a “great musician, very kind and gentle in our experience,” said the Posies, who toured with the Replacements between 1989 and 1991, the year the Replacements split.
Dunlap made two solo albums, 1993’s, the Old New Me and ’96’s Times Like This.
“Truly, we lost one of the greats,” Twin/Tone Records said in a statement. “Slim was an incredible talent and an incredible man; he touched a lot of lives with his artistry.”

REVIEW: Aaron Lee Tasjan “Stellar Evolution”
REVIEW: Aaron Lee Tasjan “Stellar Evolution” @aaronleetasjan @hiker_andy #listenbetter @americanahighways #americanamusic #americanahighways #stellarevolution
Aaron Lee Tasjan – Stellar Evolution Aaron Lee Tasjan genuinely comes off as one of the most likable guys in Nashville. The singer-songwriter-guitar whiz has penned some of the catchiest indie tunes over the past decade – 2021’s “Up All Night” is absolutely irresistible, and the title of the album it’s from, Tasjan! Tasjan! Tasjan!, displays his subtle sense of snark about everything, including…

2024 | A year in review: Music.
So I want to do a kind of diary entry, where I can put my thoughts and feelings about the music I listen this year.

Song Review: Aaron Lee Tasjan feat. Dave Schools - “I Love America Better than You”
To hear Aaron Lee Tasjan tell it, there’s no American more patriotic than Aaron Lee Tasjan.
In fact, his latest single, recorded with Widespread Panic bassist Dave Schools, shouts from the mountaintop: “I Love America Better than You.”
It begins as an unadorned folk song before the band kicks in with a shuffling rhythm and syncopated beat. Tasjan delivers the sing-songy chorus - also the tough-love verses - with a healthy dose of acerbic sarcasm:
They say our founding fathers built a Christian nation/but nowhere in the Bible does god bless the U.S.A/but at least he gave us Wal-mart/and the people that we call the Indians/who showed us how to smoke tobacco/now that’s a good revenge/I love America better than you … /her crowded cities and her hotdogs, too/land of immigrants/queer trans feminists/I love America better than you
What makes “I Love America Better than You” a keeper is Tasjan’s success in delivering an important message wrapped in humor without sacrificing song craft in the process.
“We would like to encourage you all to vote and make your voices heard at the polls in this important election,” he and Schools said in a statement accompanying the release.

The Ledge #625: Second Quarter Recap
Besides the monthly new release episodes, another regular feature of this show is the "quarterly recap", where I play tracks from the best albums released over the last three months. This month features a wide variety of rock, punk, power pop, Americana, and a few other sub-genres. Everybody should be able to find a new favorite record in this expanded episode.
Before we get to the highlights of the quarter, though, I've got a tribute to arguably the greatest rock and roller my state has ever produced. Myron Lee, the leader of Myron Lee & The Caddies, passed away just days before his 83rd birthday. Along with airing a handful of his late 50s/early 60s hits, I come clean about the simple fact that for the longest time I was completely unaware of his true rockin' sound. In fact, it was due to an appearance on another Real Punk Radio broadcast that I finally understood that rockabilly and punk fanatics have been collecting his singles for decades! RIP Myron!
Also, please head to YouTube and subscribe to our channel - Public Domain Classics 888. We have close to 300 classic films from over 110 years of releases!
