Scene: First time asking for cuddles [Modern AU]

Characters: Xiao, Albedo x gn!reader

Xiao

“Where are you?”

Text messages from him are rather curt. Dating him is like randomly pointing at an ice-cream flavour while blindfolded. You never know what you’ll get, but you know it’ll somehow always be good. 

He’s rather aloof. Keeps to himself. Doesn’t have a lot of friends. Quiet. 

“Still at class. Last 10 minutes. What’s wrong?” 

You go through the rest of the class without getting another text message from him, only when you file out of the lecture hall do you realize he’s waited for you outside and immediately makes a beeline for you. Arm round your waist and pulling you closer to him, he presses a kiss to your temple. 

“...Hello,” you respond and he only lets out a quick “Mm,” before pulling away as if the greeting kiss never even happened and waits for you to weave your hand into his. 

You find yourself shoulder to shoulder with him even as the two of you sit at the cafeteria. It’s not strange, but it’s different. Xiao isn’t one to display affection outside of private four walls. 

He eats, but as he eats, his eyes are tacked on to you, watching the way your chin bobbed up and down as you chewed. Looking as you turn towards him with a curious and inquiring eye. “Is there...something on my face?” you ask him and he only breathes a quick huff of held back laughter. “Nothing,” he says and goes back to his food.

Still having an hour before your next class starts, a typical day would have you and him working in the library. Today, however, he had other plans.

You feel the slight tug of his hand the moment you start walking towards the library building. The look you give him is questioning, he’s been acting a little strange, but you quickly piece together why. 

Bashfully, he picks his hand up and rubs the back of his neck. He plays volleyball, and so your eyes can’t help but be drawn to the way the muscles on his forearms are so prominent. “Do you...wanna come by my room instead?” His face flushes the slightest pink, and for a moment you fluster as well. 

He hadn’t asked you that before.

“S-Sure...” 

Xiao doesn’t ask for cuddles. Not verbally, at least. He knows that the every day urge of wanting to have more of you is selfish, yet it becomes unbearable not to do anything about it. Not to touch you.

When the door to his room closes he’s quite assertive in the way he wraps his arms around your waist and walks backwards, pulling you and him towards the bed. When his legs hit the edge of it he hoists you up, and the two of you tumble backwards onto his bed, legs dangling over the edge, being on the wrong side of it. “Xiao?” 

You stutter at his sudden move, but you’re silenced when he relaxes and curls up beside you. He doesn’t say anything when he rests his head at the crook of your neck, though his ears are red. He grabs your hand and guides it over his head, towards his locks and you finally get the message.

He simply wanted to be near you. To feel your hand tenderly graze over his scalp, and for him to sigh in contentment. 

The next time you feel that he’s a little more touchy than usual, you already know what it means.

Albedo

It’s routine to be studying together in his room. You, hunched over your notebook and trying to discern the notes you’ve written, feeling as if it was suddenly a foreign language. And him, poring over his own work on his laptop keys tapping almost rhythmically. 

From time to time he sighs and stands to leave his room, coming back with a mug of tea, then asking if you wanted any. You’d merely shake your head no, too engrossed in trying to study to even hear his actual question. You just know that he had asked something. 

Albedo watches your eyebrows furrow together in concentration. He glances at his unfinished work. He’s distracted today, and he knows exactly why. 

He continues to stand and observe you as he sips his tea, wondering how to phrase his request. He clears his throat at some point, to try and get your attention, but you vaguely hear it in your haze of focus. 

He tries again and clears his throat louder, this time causing you to turn your head towards him with an apologetic smile. “Hm?”

“I was wondering...if you would like to spend some time on the bed?”

You stare at each other for a good three seconds. You trying to comprehend his request and him wondering if he had phrased it correctly. “L-L-Like what?” 

Perhaps you’d gotten the wrong idea. Albedo sighs a little, places his mug on his table and takes your hand to pull you up from your chair, dragging you over to the bed.

Has he ever been good with words? Certainly. He’s marvelous at using them. But when it came to you it was a little different. His heart speaks before his mouth does and that always throws him off. 

He reaches the edge and sits, kicking his shoes off and rolling in to make space for you next to him. He looks up at you expectantly, still holding your hand and hoping you’d follow. You look like you’re about to combust, you didn’t think that anything like this has happened before, but you trusted him more than anyone else, and so, you get comfy just as he did. 

However, the two of you are way too far apart. He notices this as you peer up at him curiously, not knowing what was happening. He sighs a little, but a tiny smile plays at his lips. “Relax,” he whispers almost like magic, your shoulders melting and your grip on his hand a little looser. 

“Come here,” He lifts his arm up and you carefully slide in to meld with him. 

It’s unreal. 

The immediate comfort it brings makes you forget about the whole world for a minute. His breath on the top of your head, the rise and fall of his chest against you, his arm draped lazily around your waist and yet his hand pressed against your back as if to pull more of you in. Like saying “I love you” without saying it at all.

You have no words to describe it, and your nervousness disappears. All you can think of right now is why the two of you have never done this earlier.

♡ Xiao always claimed that actions speak louder than words. And while that is true, that's not why he said that. He didn't know how to tell you how much he actually cares about you or how to express it, he could never find the right words to say. That is until he saw someone giving some girl a cup of coffee with something written on it. And so, that gave him an idea.

♡ Ever since then he would pass by your desk and place a cup of your favorite drink on it. Along with it would be a cute little sticky note with his handwriting on it.<3

♡ Some days he would write something simple like: ''I love you :) -Xiao'' or ''You look beautiful today♡ -Xiao'' or he would write a time or place for the two of you to hang out. Either way he would always include a heart or a smiley face at the end, he thinks it's cute.

♡ Xiao loves seeing you smile while you read the things he writes. It really warms his heart! Especially because he thought that you would think he was weird for doing it so, it puts him at ease to see you so happy. And he loves the hugs and affection you give him after as a thank you<3
