Onto dual destinies case 2! What a fucking fever dream. Who let Blackquill prosecute holy shit. His suggestion power or whatever should NOT be allowed in a courtroom, he's sicced a hawk on multiple people, he broke steel chains, Athena clearly has some trauma related to him, what the hell is going on. WHY DID THEY GIVE A PRISONER CONVICTED OF MURDER HIS GOD DAMN SWORD THAT HE MURDERED WITH

Lamenoire & Brillant - CD1950
I'm back with some Blackbright! I know Fulbright looks like a menacing silhouette in this one, but he probably would just cuddle with Blackquill! Nothing terrible will happen... They're just happy lovebirds <3

forgor to write this up earlier but i played more of The Monstrous Turnabout last night!
I don't remember if I posted when I played through the Day 1 Investigation? And if I did post about it, I definitely don't remember what I said about it. Probably something about the lack of player agency.
Anyway, I've officially made it all the way through Trial Day 1, and I'm gonna be so honest here, the best thing about this case so far? Literally just Prosecutor Blackquill. I love him. There is so much going on with his character already and I'm living for it!
Like. Here is a man. A man who has spent the last however many years in jail. He is a convicted murderer. He used to be a prosecutor. Now he's both. And he's standing across the courtroom from you, and what does he do? The man, the absolute maniac, leans into it! He's just like. Welp. Guess everyone thinks I'm mean and cruel and terrible so, might as well! and it works so well. But you get a glimpse behind the facade when Jinxie offers the protective charm so Blackquill can sleep better. At first, he thinks the offer is mocking, in bad faith, and then Jinxie explains. And Blackquill is completely taken aback.
Moreover! Moreover. He breaks a trend among other Ace Attorney prosecutors (at least from what I can tell thus far). Every prosecutor before this is so focused on having control over the trial that they are overly prepared. When the defense flips the script on them, they're completely off their game. Blackquill isn't. This man, he spins a tale so expertly that he has the judge eating out of the palm of his hand from the very beginning, but as soon as that story begins falling apart, he adapts! And that's what makes him stand out. He's able to roll with the punches, which we haven't really seen from other prosecutors, even Klavier Gavin, who breaks the pattern from the OG trilogy in other ways.
Also, final note. Blackquill is kind of siren-coded? Like. I know the go-to characters people like to assign siren to are the Gavin bros, which I get, but also. Blackquill's Power of Suggestion is right there?? Also, sirens in Greek myth were originally bird-like. And Blackquill has the bird motif. Anyway. Things to think about later.

4:05 am, Saturday morning. One hour, fifty minutes until dawn.
Fulbright sniffled, wiping dog slobber off his face, as he and Simon sat. Simon did not need to ask what had happened, certain he already knew. He felt even more sure of this when Fulbright reached over, running his fingers along and tugging at the edge of Simon's face.
Just checking.
Apparently satisfied, Fulbright leaned into the headboard, running his hands through Rovers fur.
".......I'm sorry."
Simon shrugged, watching as Rovers tail swished back and forth, back and forth. "It is nothing. Do not trouble yourself."
"I just......I really thought..."
"can I come in...?"
Burnie was standing a little awkwardly in the doorway, and Fulbright froze a moment.
"oh, Burnie, I..."
The firefighter entered, sitting himself on the edge of the bed, between Fulbright and Simon.
"you alright?"
".....I think so." Fulbright's voice waivered, and Simon could not help but doubt the answer given. Still....not his place.
"Hell, Bobby. You scared the shit outta me, what was that?"
Simon stood, walking over to where Taka was perched on the dresser, and started stroking her feathers. She stared back at him with her large, golden eyes, as though she could stare right through the lot of them. Behind him, Fulbright was finding it difficult to answer his paramour's question.
"I.... I'm sorry, I should have told you...."
"should have told me what? That you'd freak out?"
"it's been awhile since it happened, I thought maybe-"
"-awhile? Is this something that happens often? Is it going to keep happening?"
"I don't know, probably, I didn't think-its been a minute-I thought I was in a good place..."
It was painful listening to this, instead Simon tried to lose himself Takas feathers, soothing himself as much as he did her.
"it was about two years ago now, well, two years and a little more, and I was working with Prosecutor Blackquill, he was still an inmate then, and, and-"
"-perhaps the more detailed events can wait until morning." Simon's own stomach was beginning to turn, he did not want to be there for this. And based on Fulbright's state, they should keep this short, anyway.
Fulbright swallowed, and continued, audibly shaky, "I was kidnapped. An-and...held. For a long ti-time."
Simon could hear the firefighter shift, but refused to turn and look. Instead he listened, willing the conversation to move on.
"sweet holy mother.....so, when you didn't recognize me..."
Fulbright didn't answer, and Simon could not take the conversation any longer. He signaled taka to perch on his arm, and walked to the kitchen.
Athena was sitting at the table drumming her fingers.
Simon sat across from her, staring past her, at nothing in particular. The clock ticked above them.
There was nothing to say.
(and with that, our event comes to a close. Our heros are alright, but may be a little off kilter for a bit...

Consider-Simon Blackquill, after being in prison for seven years is woefully, woefully touch-starved. He yearns to be held, to get a hug, to feel any form of affection.
Consider also-Hes so full of anger, self-hatred, and resignation that he denies himself any chance of such a thing.
Consider-even more then that, he's scared. He's been beat up, electrocuted, chained, pushed around for so long that....he won't risk it. Someone reaching out can only hurt him. (Also emotional weakness but whatever)
Consider, Fulbright would sometimes offer positive touch, not even aware of it. Helping steady Simon when he's about to fall, helping him in and out of the squad car, little things. Things that slowly build trust.
Consider-the Phantom is aware. He uses it to play with Simons emotions. Simon is already in a bad state, and does not handle it well, raising all his walls back up.
Now consider, finally, finally getting a hug, his little sister/niece holding him while they both cry their eyes out. Patches' enthusiastic greeting involving a huge hug. Clasping hands with an old friend, the warmth from a bowl of udon noodles made with love.
Just....no sudden reaching for him, and maybe....
Just maybe..
He can heal.

Headcanon that during Athena's trial for the murder of her mother, when she was panicking, Taka landed on her shoulder and stayed with her the whole time, all the way up to the Phantom's arrest

Lamenoire & Brillant - CD1950
Blackquill: Prosecutor Blackquill on the phone?
In this AU, Blackquill is still a prosecutor and Fulbright a police detective. Although, Blackquill hadn't been convicted for Metis Cykes' murder. Despite this, UR-1 accident still happened and Fulbright and Blackquill investigate during their free time to find the culprit, the one called the Phantom.
Fulbright is the police detective attached to Prosecutor Blackquill making them colleagues. Nonetheless, they secretly live together in a little French house with a garden in the suburbs of Paris. They try to keep their relationship a secret among their co-workers, but it's sometimes more difficult than they expected. Yet, their neighbour, an old lady with a cat likes to spy on them and tries to blackmail them without success... Her name, Wendy Oldbag!
