Chapter 12 of 'A '70s Rhapsody' is out now!! Also, I now have a new blog where I post only my fic updates @somecluelessidiot-fics
"That's definitely not the most effective way to do that," Sirius said, swinging his legs casually as he read over another answer.
The piece of paper Remus was holding crumpled in his grip. "Why don't you come and sort it out then?" he snapped.
Sirius jumped off the table annoyingly gracefully and strolled over to where Remus was. He gathered up the papers again, then plonked into McGonagall's chair and propped his feet up on the spotless wood in front of him.
"Get your dirty shoes off there!" Remus hissed. "I'm not cleaning that up!"
Sirius ignored him fingering through the test with a kind of careless sloppiness that somehow looked elegant when he did it. "Here, take these ones," he murmured, holding out a stack.
Remus debated telling him exactly where he could stick those papers, but decided against it and snatched them from his hand instead.
"What are you doing?" he finally asked, letting his curiosity get the best of him.
Sirius spared him a glance and a smirk, then explained, "I'm finding the next ones in the alphabet. It's really quite simple." He dumped another pile into Remus' arms. "Come on, Lupin, don't be dense. I much prefer it when you're being clever."
"Don't be a dick," Remus scowled.
Sirius only grinned and looked back at the papers.
Ten more minutes passed in total silence, save for the rustling and crinkling of the sheets and the occasional grunt from Remus when Sirius dumped more and more piles into his arms. It wasn't long before he was holding the entire stack, now arranged in alphabetical order. Remus put them on the desk as carefully as he could, but they ended up thumping onto the wooden surface.
"Get up," Remus said. "I'm not cleaning everything on my own."
Sirius crinkled his nose in distaste - like the spoiled rich boy he most definitely was - but picked up a cloth anyway. Remus dunked his in the water - which was now lukewarm - and started wiping down one of the desks at the front. Sirius copied him and followed suit. It was quite therapeutic, actually. The repetitive circular movement Remus swiped with the cloth, the short walk to and from the bucket each time, the fact that the desks were spotlessly clean afterwards.
It wasn't long until the silence was excruciating, though. The sloshing of water was the only sound, and while Remus had been perfectly content with the lack of noise before, it seemed all-too-loud now.
And then there it was. Sirius started humming, a familiar tune that Remus had heard James playing too many times for his own sanity. The song wasn't in his personal favourites - something he owed purely to James' obsession with listening to the same songs over and over again - but, he supposed, it was alright. And then the lyrics came in.

Chapter 10 of A '70s Rhapsody is out nowwww!! Happy Saturday!
James could practically feel everyone watching him at all times, and it was excruciating. It wasn't the same kind of attention he was used to - where people stared because they valued his opinion or because they simply adored hearing everything he had to say. No, this was worse. This was, quite frankly, embarrassing. Because everyone was staring at James to check on him, to make sure he wasn't about to do something stupid, and he hated it. He hated it more than anything else in the world.
His mother used to say that he was too good, that he didn't have an ounce of hate in his body, that he was made purely of love and foolish forgiveness, and he needed to accept that he would get hurt sometimes. She was wrong. Yes, James had been hurt. He'd been hurt too many times to count, and no one realised because he was the almighty James Potter with the biggest ego on the planet, and every insult bounced right off him. That's how it was supposed to be.
But, no, James was not a good person, as he'd come to realise. He was selfish and rude and arrogant and he hurt people without meaning to. He felt so guilty all the time. Good people would have nothing to feel guilty about.
Where he was supposed to be happy and kind and caring, he was full of the hatred that his mother said he didn't have. He hated that it was there. He hated himself for hating other people, for hating how they doted on him, for hating that he couldn't be the one to look after them, as it was supposed to be. He was just a fuck-up, he didn't need watching over. They did, with their actual, real-world problems - like how Remus' family were struggling for money, and Marlene's parents were on the brink of divorce. These were the problems people should have been worrying about, not James and his stupid emotions.
So, he had no choice but to make an excuse to leave. It was too much.

Chapter 9 of A '70s Rhapsody by somecluelessidiot is up now!! This is an angsty one 😕
And then the silence returned. Sirius' eyes strayed to the loud group on his right. They were obnoxious, yes, but they were his. Nothing had ever felt like it belonged solely to him before. Yes, his parents had bought him countless meaningless gifts, taking any opportunity possible to spoil and dote on their sons when they behaved, but none of it had ever had any meaning. The one thing in the world that Sirius had wanted was some friends, people who actually liked him for him. Not for his family's name or status, not for his money, not because they were attracted to him, but for him. And these people, the weird British people who he'd randomly stumbled across at this fantastic school, they were the friends he'd always wished for.
No, he couldn't take the chance. He couldn't risk everything he'd somehow already built. He had to behave. He had to be the perfect heir to the fortune that his parents wanted. He had to be good for them, just for today. Just until they left. He had to let Regulus take the rage he'd brought upon himself, even though it felt so, so wrong. He just had to.

New chapter of 'A '70s Rhapsody' by somecluessidiot on AO3:
And Remus...
Remus was quite unlike anyone he'd ever known. That was the simplest way to put it. He was witty and clever and sarcastic and hilariously rude at times and arguably just as loyal as Peter. He did as he wanted, whether that was dedicating his time to his studies so that he could go off to university and probably become a corporate manager one day, or sneaking off to help James to pull an uproariously well thought-out (and sometimes cruel) prank. He was persistently chopping and changing, moody one moment and happy the next, never constant and never without a sharp comeback.
He was an ocean of stormy seas and calm waves, with the tiniest brush of wind bringing the storm again, disturbing the tranquility that was before. He reached out and pulled away like the tides, folding in on himself when it all became too much, then returning to his usual semi-extroverted nature. He was confusion personified, shifting so much that even Sirius's quick wit and sharp mind struggled to keep up. He was everything and nothing, everywhere and nowhere, all at once.
It was riveting just to be around him, to be swept up in his chaos, to be soothed by his organisation, to be insulted and complimented, to be the object of his jokes or the ones who prompted them. He was the sea, the sky, and the ground all at once, and Sirius wanted nothing more than pry open his mind and figure out what was going on in there. It had to be a lot, he assumed, because how could someone be so intelligent and ever have silence in their mind? How could someone transform so much so quickly without reason or means to do so? What could make a person so combustible, he wondered countless times?
It was fascinating. He was fascinating. Every little movement, every little trick that Remus did, hypnotised Sirius, because how could someone be so... Remus?

Chapter 11 of A '70s Rhapsody is out now!!
"Where's Mary?" Lily found herself asking for the hundredth time as she lay back on her bed.
She had been disappearing rather regularly for the past week, without telling any of the other girls where she was going. It was highly irregular behaviour from Mary, who cared for her friends first and foremost, and whose motto was 'sisters before misters'.
Marlene shrugged. "Dunno. Probably off gallivanting with some bloke."
"She usually tells us though," Lily pointed out with a frown.
"Exactly," replied Alice. "I'm sure she's fine. If she had something going on, we'd know about it."
Lily still wasn't convinced, though. It wasn't like Mary to not tell any of them where she was going or what she was doing. She always made sure someone knew just in case something happened. It wasn't like anything had happened before, but Mary was sensible. She was cautious. So maybe Lily just needed to trust her friend.
It wasn't until late that night that Lily saw Mary again. She was peacefully studying for her upcoming History test, memorising as many dates as she could and scribbling them down in her notebook, when Macdonald burst through the door, grinning wildly, her hair a mess and her mother's lipstick smeared around her mouth.
Mary marched right over to her bed, not even elacknowledging the fact that she'd been missing for the past three hours, and fell unceremoniously onto it with a dreamy sigh.
"And just where have you been?" Marlene demanded, a slightly offended pout in her face. "Is there a reason you won't tell us?"
Mary sat up again as though only just remembering that they were there, still smiling so widely that Lily could've sworn she could see the back of her throat from here. "You wouldn't believe me if I told you," she said.
"Go on, say it!" Marlene rushed impatiently.
Mary opened her mouth to speak, but glanced at Lily and closed it again. She mimed zipping her lips shut. "My lips are sealed, I'm afraid, McKinnon," she shrugged casually. "Perhaps you'll find out eventually."
"Oh, go on, Mare, tell us," Lily added, now even more curious than she had been before.
"You don't want to know," she replied in a singsong voice.
"Yes we do!" Alice joined in, leaning forwards eagerly. Even thought Alice wasn't as close as the other girls were to each other (instead having more friends in different houses), she still clearly cared about Mary, and they all knew she loved a bit of gossip every now and then.
"It's... oh, but Lily will hate me," Mary debated, casting another wary glance in her direction.
Lily frowned. "Mary, I could never hate you," she said, crossing the room to sit next to her on her bed. "What makes you think that?"
Whatever she'd done must've been serious. If it wasn't, Mary wouldn't have given two shits about whether Lily approved or not.
"Mary?" Lily prompted after a beat.
Mary groaned. "Promise you won't get mad?"
"I... well, that depends," Lily replied honestly. "What did you do?"
"Well. See, I know you hate Potter, and I get it, really, I do, but just because he's a prat doesn't mean his friends are too, right?" Mary rambled. "I mean, we already know that Remus is great, and Peter's really sweet, so I figured it couldn't hurt."
"What couldn't hurt?" Lily asked, barely keeping up with what was happening.
Mary took a deep breath, her smile returning, softer this time. "Lils, I've never been head-over-heels in love before, do you know that? But... I honestly think I might be now. And you might be annoyed, and that's fair, but you have to understand that I had to do it for my own sanity."
"Did what, Mary, for the love of God?!" Marlene moaned, incredibly impatient now.
Ha. As if I'm just going to give it away lol.

OMG so I completely forgot that was supposed to be updating yesterday... whoops. However, since it is now my Easter holiday, I'll do my best to update tomorrow or the day after. I am going away with family so I'm not sure if I'll be able to post more chapters during the holiday, but we'll see. Also, my first exam is on Friday 25th April (yikes), So after that I will be taking a hiatus to focus on revision. See you all soon!

Chapter 6 of 'A '70s Rhapsody' by somecluelessidiot on AO3 is up now!
"No, but he's a proper git!" Bartemius Crouch Junior exclaimed with annoyance as he barged back into the dorm room, interrupting Regulus's peaceful reading session.
Evan Rosier followed him in, rolling his eyes. Rosier was French too, which was why he'd been given the task of helping Regulus get settled in on his first day. He was a strange one, undoubtedly, but Regulus was quite glad that Rosier had been the one selected to look out for him. He'd met a few other students who might have been chosen, and none of them seemed like particularly nice people. In fact, they reminded him of the horrid students back at Le Châtelier's.
Evan relaxed into an amused smile, crossing the room to get his books out of his trunk. "Yeah, well Snape's always been a bit of a git, Bee," he said. "I don't know why you let him wind you up so much."
"He just drives me up the wall," Barty sulked, falling gracelessly onto his bed in a lump. "The bloody pisshat."
Evan snorted. "'Pisshat'," he mused. "That's a new one."
"Only the best for you, Rosie," Barty smirked.
Evan rolled his eyes and glanced at Regulus. "How are you doing, Regulus? Everything sorted for Physics?"
Regulus nodded, peering over his book. "At least someone's somewhat sensible."
"Oui, malheureusement, Barty est un idiot. Ignorez-le," said Evan, slipping into French so that Barty wouldn't understand. [TRANSLATION: Yes, unfortunately, Bart is an idiot. Ignore him.]
Barty sat upright and frowned. "Oi! I know you're talking about me! I heard my name!"
Evan spared him a glance. "Good. I'd hate for you to miss out on this delightful conversation."
"Il n’est pas très intelligent, n’est-ce pas?" Regulus smirked. [TRANSLATION: He's not very clever, is he?]
Barty groaned. "I hate you both."
"Hurry up and get your books, Bee," Evan sighed. "We'll be late to class."
Regulus himself swung his legs off his bed and marked his page with a bookmark - he was not a heathen - then grabbed his bag and stood at the door to wait for them both.
When Barty didn't move, only letting out a childish groan, Evan dug through his trunk and picked up his physics book for him, then stuffed it in a rucksack, which was so empty that it sagged. Barty still didn't get up, so Evan grabbed him by the ankle and quite literally dragged him off the bed so that he hit the floor with a satisfying THWACK!
"OW!" Barty shouted, scrambling to his feet to lunge at Evan, who dashed out the door.
Regulus stepped into the corridor after both of them, watching as they threw each other into the wall, laughing. Well, he supposed these were his friends now. These idiots, who attacked each other in the hall, were now his idiots. What a strange concept.
