Heyo!

I'm Tisiphone - or Tiss, or Tizzy, I don't mind (she/her). I mainly write SFF, but I intend to try my hand at horror and potentially espionage thrillers in the future. I also can't seem to write anything without women being very gay in the middle of it all, so I'm leaning into it.

I'm a disabled trans lesbian from the UK

What I like seeing in books? Mysteries woven through the plot that resolve satisfyingly. Characters that bounce off each other and grate against each other in interesting ways. Weird romances that don't dominate the plot, but are a key part of it. Great character development.

Favourite books? The Locked Tomb Series by Tamsyn Muir, The Unspoken Name by A.K. Larkwood, Malice by Heather Walter, The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon. And a lot of Terry Pratchett.

Fiction I probably won't enjoy? Something where the plot is purely interpersonal drama or romance with nothing interesting happening outside of it. Literary fiction. YA.

Outside of writing? By day I'm a software developer. The rest of my time is spent drawing, playing games both video and tabletop, and playing electric guitar (badly).

With this blog I'm aiming to post writing updates, inspiration, and probably writing-related memes.

About my writing:

At the moment I'm primarily writing high fantasy/epic fantasy, with a view to trying out some more genres later on.

Admittedly a lot of the classic elements of western fantasy are in there, but I've been trying to get back to the mythological roots of creatures like elves, gnomes, and dwarves, and to present them as not being all white and vaguely British.

The world of The Tectomancy Saga is also, like that of my childhood writing hero Sir Terry, an odd shape. There's a reason for that, and we'll get to it eventually.

While my stories are currently third-person multi-pov stories, I intend to experiment on that at some point in the future.

My stories will probably all revolve around two things; a central mystery and a central relationship. I love a plot where you can pick at the smallest words and phrases, theorise about absolutely everything. I want to write stories where people have a thousand ideas about what the truth is, and each one of them knows there's a good chance they could be correct. I also, as a queer trans lady, want to write about sapphic relationships and include many people who are not cis.

My favourite themes to write are anti-authority, people breaking out of systems they've been trapped in for a long time, people being more important than power.

I'm definitely a plantser. I know kind of where I'm going, but let's see where the journey takes us along the way!

Finally, you can expect the tone of my writing to be trying to find that sweet spot between serious and dry humour that makes you groan, with a healthy sprinkling of subtle meme references.

On a bowl-shaped world suspended far above swirling blue mists, nine goddesses, witches, or geniuses, blessed their peoples with divine magics, then disappeared. Now, the world is decaying, tensions are rising, and people scramble to control the magics in order to shape the future.

WIP Intro

High Fantasy: The classic Princess-in-a-tower-guarded-by-a-dragon story, but we see the machiantions that put her there, and what happens afterwards.

Releine Sholt is hand-picked by the heir to Tectomancy, Princess Almyra Tectus, to be her new bodyguard. The role has one ominous stipulation: nobody can ever speak to the Princess, on the threat of dire punishment.

'There was only one bed' turns out to have horrifying consequences.

High Fantasy: The saga continues from different perspectives, having different adventures, that will eventually conjoin.

Almyra vies for control of her kingdom. Ellimane tracks down two misfits who are being hunted by a rogue automaton. Releine visits hell. A new threat rises in the shadows of Versewelt, the decaying land.

Bitter exes who technically never dated are definitely not thinking about each other.

Fay and the Red Kite (Title pending)

Fay Orrel, a trainee mech pilot, finds that her beaten-up old training machine holds an AI that has replicated its deceased former pilot. She tries to keep the other woman secret from the PMC that owns the mech, who would be certain to wipe the AI's memories, destroying Mina forever.

As Different As...: The story of two people who had nothing in common finding out they have god-like powers and having to work with each other to keep the balance of the world in check.

Mutiny Collectables: The story of a band of pirates searching for rare items that correspond to their special interests.

The Bridge: A mad scientist and his lover keep popping in at the right moments. They know more than they let on. Who are they? Why are they here?

Sideline is more of a concept/for fun project of mine- so updates on their stories will be sporadic and most likely will be in different media formats! The one thing to remember with it though: it is always in chronological order.

once again it’s me. your girl pepper dkjsdjk uh a bit about me i guess, i don’t drink coffee or alcohol but i do drink a lot of sparkling water. i’ve been obsessed with this reality show the circle on netflix lately but i am just a slut for reality tv in general (come to me if you want to mourn the loss of pilot pete’s last braincell or omg discuss love island because i just started that too). i’m the girl who says SAVE THE BEES but runs full speed at the sight of one. i watched midsommar on valentines day and it was very romantic. i have the memory of a goldfish, like anything anyone tells me? gone in an instant sdksdj so be warned!

the curl of smoke, the flickering of a single streetlight, charming your way out of trouble with a smile and a look, raising your fist in victory, the sharp smell of gasoline, booming laughter, an unapologetic flashing of the middle finger, thriving in chaos, the intimidating purr of a large cat.

HEADCANNONS. 

Leks was raised by two kind, loving parents in a wealthy home in Bulgaria. So it really does make one wonder how he turned out like this. Because the thing was, while Viktor Krum was successful and talented and praised for all of that and still managed to be humble and kind, that gene absolutely skipped Leks over. Leks is an asshole, to put it bluntly. Has been pretty much since birth. He came out of the womb screaming bloody murder and shaking his little fists, and as he aged it only got worse. Because much like his father Leks was special. He had a talent for almost everything he tried his hand at, and that of thing goes to your head you know, especially as a child. It skews the way you see yourself. Leks saw himself, and still sees himself, as superior to almost everyone around him. And that cockiness has never been checked, because the worst part is all his life Leks had been surrounded by people who agreed. Yes, Leks, you really are the best. No one can beat you. No one is better than you.

So for all the years of his schooling, Leks royally disappointed his father by simply being a dick. He was the king of the school pretty much the moment he got in, and he caused trouble from the day he stepped foot in the place to the day he left. Playing pranks that weren't always kind, sleeping his way through the institution (girls, boys, and, in his later years, even young professors alike) and he got into the bad habit of charming his way out of trouble. Every time Leks was caught he'd simply smile, and kiss up, and lay it on thick. And for the most part, it unfortunately worked. Not always of course, after all, Durmstrang professors were known for being strict. But it definitely worked often enough for Leks to know it worked. All through his schooling most of the adults simply saw Leks as charismatic and funny, and never what he truly was: out of control. Only parents knew. And his father wasn't happy about it.

Leks was his father’s youngest child, and apparently biggest disappointment. His eldest sister was sweet, a healer and a bookworm. Painfully kind and warm almost to a fault. And one of his brothers was a Quidditch player, also with a heart of gold. He was brave, and good, and Leks was apparently none of those things. At least not to the extent of his siblings. You see, Leks was the black sheep simply because he was a bad egg in a household of good ones. But Leks couldn't understand why his father saw him that way. I mean, was he really that bad? He couldn't be right? He wasn't. 

Leks always got along a bit better with his mother, who was always more lenient with him. She wasn't blind to Leks' bad behavior, but she accepted him and loved him despite it (not that Viktor didn't, he simply leaned more towards tough love). Leks' mother spoiled him, and honestly he adores her. Leks truly is a huge ass mama’s boy on the low, and he has no shame in admitting it.

I headcannon that Leks pulled some major nonsense, like he did something that went too far, and therefore got kicked off the Bulgarian quidditch team (I headcannon that he used to play beater and he was good, like he had a real talent and he was going to bring Bulgaria to their second world cup until he messed that all up dskjsdk) and cut off from Viktor money wise which is why he had to move to Phoenix Circus. I feel like this thing was very public, like in the Daily Prophet, and everyone knows about it. It might be drug related or something like that? Or just a stupid thing he did and I'm not sure exactly what he did for now but it was stupid enough that his dad doesn't even want him to come back home until he’s learned his lesson, and he doesn't really spend a lot of time in the wizarding world too much anymore because of all the negative attention. At least the muggles don’t know what Leks did, and therefore don’t judge him. I headcannon Leks to be a fire eater and occasional backup lion tamer in a local circus. I don’t know why I like the idea of a traveling circus filled with squibs and ex cons that Leks has just found himself fitting in with, but that’s the concept I’m going with. They don’t do any real magic in their show since they perform for muggles, which is really half the fun of it for them. But every once and a while they go all out and do a performance for witches and wizards, and those are always wild too. Anyways, we’re going to continue to develop along the way. 

SMALL HEADCANNONS.

A big player honestly, like promiscuous, tends to have people coming in and out of his flat at odd hours all the time. Probably more than a bit of a fuckboi. 

Is lowkey really beating himself over this whole thing with his father though, like over embarrassing his family the way he did and he deals with that by drinking and partying and sleeping around. Lather, rinse, repeat. 

The only person from his family that he has like regular contact with is his mom, and other than that even his sweet elder sister won't talk to him she's so ashamed sdkjdskj. 

Also, I feel like the Krum family is big, like I’m imagining Leks has like five siblings or something? And he’s the baby of the family, and also the scew up.

Speaks English and Bulgarian, but is more fluent in Bulgarian. Still occasionally has to think about how to say some words in English.

Can cook, and will brag about it. His food is good but he's so cocky about it that you won't want to admit that to him sdkds.

I feel like he got a modelling deal while he was still in Hogwarts or something, and it just went to his head. I feel like he modelled on and off while he was still on the Bulgaria team, and he might be instagram modelling a bit now? A concept.

Welcome, one and all, to the biggest Pony news day of the year! 

For those of you who maybe haven’t been following the fandom closely around Comic-Con in previous years, the community has come to expect news, clips, animatics, even full trailers! Lucky for those of us without the necessary pocket change, every spoilerific tidbit is live-blogged for our enjoyment by our friends at Equestria Daily, and the clips released afterwards online by Hasbro.

So, expect spoilers below the break with commentary and hyper fangirling! (Note: This post will be updated as clips and more news come out)

My Little Pony: The Movie

Two sneak peaks and a SONG were shown! I’ll update the post when they’re released online. There was also an intro video to the panel where the cast of the movie talked a tiiiny bit about their characters (we’ll hopefully see that online, too).

The song was sung by Rainbow Dash and Captain Celeano (the pirate birb), and it’s a song called “Time to be Awesome” sung to the pirates to rally them into rebellion against the Storm King.

Sneak peek #1 was about the mane 6 leaving Equestria for the first time heading south, and sneak peek #2 was about the Storm King using some kind of potion to essentially video chat with Commander Tempest.

They couldn’t spoil too much more of the movie after that, but the panelists were prompted to use one word to describe something about the movie:

“"Broken." "Musical." "Spongecake." "One small thing." (Okay, Pinkie.) "Therapy." (Aw, 'Shy.) "Not a big enough par--" "Granny, how'd you get here?" "Flushed," said Rarity. "Windmill," says AJ. "AWESOME." "Festival," Ms. Sparkle.” (from EQD)

My Little Pony Season 7

Surprisingly, they didn’t show off any real clips for season 7 or reveal much info at the panel, but if you’ve been following pony news in the past few days (AND Friday night!), we got some stuff that’s really exciting!

So, we’ll get the old stuff out of the way first: if you don’t know, we have most of the summaries for season seven and you can read those here. Season 7 part 2 is set to premiere August 5th with two amazing episodes, Discordant Harmony and The Perfect Pear. With Fame and Misfortune on the 12th, Triple Threat on the 19th, and Campfire Tails airing on the 26th!

That last one is especially important, because we now know it’s going to tie into the first arc of the Legends of Magic comic line!

But even more than that, we know the Legends of Magic comics tie into the finale, as well!!!

The 7th issue of Legends of Magic, set to come out in October, “ties into the finale” and with an Avengers-like storyline to boot: “You’ve met the most legendary ponies in Equestria’s history… now find out how they first came together to battle an unstoppable evil!”

Exactly how that story ties into the finale remains to be seen, but this is the most well-integrated the show has EVER been with its comic line. Oh, and as someone whose been following the Legends of Magic comic line and getting more and more invested (it’s one of the best arcs they’ve ever done), I can say that you won’t need to read the comics to enjoy and understand what’s going on.

It’s excellent, top-quality bonus material that tells you stories after the important ones that are talked about in Campfire Tails, but both the comics themselves and it seems the episodes of the show will be able to stand on their own.

Oh, and for the record: season 8 was confirmed long ago (as was Discord’s inclusion), but a few days ago Daniel Ingram teased that he was working with a very talented singer for season 8. So, there’s a lot on the horizon!

UPDATE: This isn’t from Comic-Con per se, but the news just dropped about the episode titles for the last three episodes of the season!

Now here’s what’s cool about the season finale title (aside from the fact that it’s just objectively cool): there’s a few options for who that could be.

A few days ago Discovery Family announced the second half of the season, in which they described a few things:

“Throughout the second half of the season, Pharynx learns that love is a strength and not a weakness, Twilight Sparkle battles the Pony of Shadows, famous author A.K. Yearling teases a new novel, the Cutie Mark Crusaders learn that nothing is impossible with courage and strength, and much more!” (x)

The identity of which is still a big mystery...

Equestria Girls

No actual news for EQG, I’m afraid, but they did make some jokes in the Q&A portion that CONFIRM MY DAMN HEADCANONS SO I’M TAKING IT AS CANON UNTIL PROVEN OTHERWISE YOU CAN’T STOP ME

Q: Any chance Celestia is Sunset Shimmer's mother? Meghan: There is NOW! We may need you to sign some papers.

VALIDATION! SWEET, SWEET VALIDATION!

OKAY, BUT IF YOU KNOW ME YOU KNOW THE MOTHER-DAUGHTER-LIKE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN TEACHERS AND THEIR STUDENTS IN THIS SHOW GIVE ME LIFE.

Q: Why doesn't Twilight write to the Princess anymore? Tara Strong: She uses email. She's a great texter. I dunno. Meghan McCarthy: That's my fault, that we stopped doing that. We felt she evolved as a character and her relationship with Celestia was changing, so she didn't have a need to update her in that way. Mike Vogel: More time to spend with her daughter, Sunset.

THEY ACKNOWLEDGED IT. EVEN IF IT WAS A JOKE, THEY ACKNOWLEDGED IT.

Also, there are three kinds of people in this world, apparently.

Q: Is Sunset ever going back to the pony world? Meghan McCarthy: ... yes. Mike Vogel: For a three-day weekend.

To visit her mom, obviously...

Q: Will Discord change if he goes through the portal? Meghan McCarthy: Oooh. He would change. That's just science. Cathy Wesluck: All his parts would just fall off.

So Discord would actually change going through the portal. Into what, we may never know, but at least we know he’s not immune.

It would be funny if his multiple parts just changed into different parts, though. Like, the translation process is still one-for-one, so he’s basically the same structure with different animals.

UPDATE: And for those wondering, it’s been confirmed that there’s more EQG on the way by Big Jim on Twitter:

We know for a fact there’s at least two new music videos coming out sometime this year because they were leaked in Russian, but at least we know there’s more EQG beyond that in 2018!

IDW Comics

In addition to the crazy things going on with the Legends of Magic line, IDW previewed a few pages from the Movie Prequel line of their comics: this time, Captain Celeano!

Much like the Legends of Magic comics, these seem to be smaller stories that give us a little background on the new characters, but won’t be necessary reading for the movie.

There’s also not a ton of reports out about what was actually said during the panel, but that might be because IDW had other brands to focus on presenting (Star Trek, Transformers, etc.).

So, that’s about it for SDCC 2017, and we got a few great things, but if that wasn’t enough to whet your appetite, don’t worry too much.

Hasbro’s first ever convention, HasCon (... yes that’s really what they went with), is set for September 8th-10th with a panel line-up that already has me drooling:

And yes, I realize the irony of putting this section into a post about SDCC, but I do it for a good reason. Normally, SDCC is the biggest Pony news day of the year, but that’s just not the case now that Hasbro can dedicate 45 minutes EACH to the main show, Equestria Girls, and the Movie!

This is especially important (and relevant to this post) because the decision to make the SDCC MLP panel just about the movie was a last minute thing. They had things about the remainder of season 7 and EQG that they were prepared to share, but were probably told to hold off on it because of HasCon.

So, I just wanted to let you know this won’t be the last post like this this year, and that there’s even more exciting news on the horizon.
