HEY GUYS

I've been scouring the internet and I feel like there's some grand conspiracy

WHY IS IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO FIND ANTI-S.A. DEVICES?

in my searching I've seen a lot of promising ideas that went no where. other than that, the only thing I've been able to find is articles about why anti-rape devices are bad for feminism somehow I still don't entirely understand (like yes, we shouldn't have to use devices to protect ourselves, but we should be able to?)

HOWEVER I found literally one YouTube channel that tells you how to make belts out of bike locks. here's what I did: (it favors people with wider hips, so it's definitely not perfect and it's not enough)

1: put on a belt around your waist to a loop where you CANNOT take off your pants without undoing the belt (and also make sure it's comfy, sit at different angles, move around with it on)

2: measure the belt up to that loop. that measurement is how long your metal chain thing has to be. (KEEP IN MIND) this will not protect against all situations and will not make you entirely safe AND ALSO if you get hurt while wearing it, first responders may have a difficult time removing your pants. this is to say that you should find a chain thing of medium quality so paramedics can have an easier time cutting through, but abusers will be more deterred.

3: buy a lock. personally I wouldn't suggest a key lock as if you want to go to the bathroom, you will need the key on your person which makes it less effective. I like the locks that need a code, but *really* think of a good password (for example, if you are known for liking bacon, don't make your password pigs) I don't know the stats, but ppl you know are more likely to assault you, so if your friends can figure out your code it's not the best. also make sure your lock isn't too bulky to hide in your pants.

4: this is the slightly-artsy part, I haven't actually done this personally yet (I just got my "belt" part in the mail). make 2 incisions on the inside, one on each side of the button. (sidenote: choose sturdy pants that you like and also where the pants legs can't be rolled all the way up.) and if you can, reinforce the incision so the hole so it doesn't fray or get otherwise damaged.

5: loop the "belt" part through the inner beltline of your pants and lock it in the front. hopefully the lock should tuck into your pants.

this is not perfect and will not protect you from many forms of assault. for me, I ultimately decided it would be a good decision for me when I wasn't sure if something had happened while I was asleep. the idea is the belt would at least deter people/give me proof/raise hella red flags if it was clearly tampered with during the night. there are other situations I've thought of where it could have helped.

moreover, I'm so mad that this is all I've found. I've felt so unsafe since I was assaulted and a device like this would give me at least some emotional relief while I treat my anxiety. it is also extra time to think in the worst situation. I don't know. someone please add to the conversation haha
