I BET ON LOSING DOGS | johnny slaughter x reader
notes: i was listening to mitski at work and was gifted with the vision that is this short fic. i feel like i never see people explore how pathetic a relationship (that term is used loosely) with johnny would be. wrote this while at work so it might not be the best but i still wanted to post it!
lmk yall's thoughts! :)
cw: 18+ content MDNI, stockholm syndrome, brief sexual content (nothing too nasty), bloodplay (sorta?), praise, hair pulling, canon typical violence (vaguely mentioned), angst!, no happy ending
word count: 1.4k
the blood of another woman was smeared across your collarbone as he placed tender kisses along your skin. these were the only times he was ever gentle with you. he breathed life into you after cutting some unsuspecting girl’s short.
at first the thought made you ill. the way he sought your affection (validation?) after a kill. it took you witnessing a few screaming matches between him and his other family members for the pieces to fall into place. the only time you had ever heard them sing his praises was when he brought home another body to be shoved unceremoniously into the cold room freezer. johnny had mentioned his past to you only once.
it had happened after a particularly ugly argument with his mother. nancy had made her usual remarks about wanting you dead.
“what do you think you’re gonna do with that girl? run off and marry her? you think she loves you? she doesn’t and she never will! put her out of her misery!” she screamed. “all you need is yer mama. blood runs thicker than water, boy. remember that.”
that was the only time you had watched him retreat with his tail between his legs. he sought out a bottle of whiskey he kept tucked away between the cushions of the peeling leather couch in his shack. the shack you had accidentally began to think of as home. he took two big swigs and leaned back against the cushion.
“ya know …i hate her. i wish she was dead. every day i wake up and hope i would finally be rid of her.”
whenever he would get like this, you knew it wasn’t an invitation to speak. you were a diary of sorts. one he didn’t need to know how to read or write to maintain.
“sometimes i wonder what my real mama was like. what she looked like. the sound of her voice. what she smelled like.” he took another big swig.
that night he had snuck you into the guest room in nancy’s house and fucked you so hard you felt sore in the morning. his hand clasped over your mouth so as to not disturb his mother in the room next door. he held you extra tight that night. perhaps afraid that in that moment you’d finally try and run again. not tonight. he wouldn’t be able to take that tonight. after a few hours of sleep he snuck you downstairs and back into his shack like you were two teenagers fooling around.
the next morning it felt like everyone stared at you a few moments longer than usual, inspecting the bruised bite marks along your neck and hickeys that decorated your chest.
when sissy called you out to the garden to help pick flowers for her powders you immediately perked up. she was the only one who spoke to you outside of ordering you around. it seemed like she needed a friend as well.
“can i ask you something? and can you promise you won’t tell johnny i asked?” you whispered, looking over your shoulder ensuring you didn’t have an audience.
“sure, dear. what’s on yer mind?” her honeyed texan accent always made you smile.
“about johnny …” you explained the conversation you overheard and johnny’s private musings (omitting the part about him wanting nancy dead).
“oh, darlin’ ya didn’t know? johnny ain’t blood. nancy adopted him when he was young.” her voice lowered. “let’s just say it weren’t no formal adoption and leave it at that.”
you nodded and thanked her for the information. after that the two of you carried on chatting about trivial things. how sissy should cut her hair, what color dress she should buy, and so on.
you were the only normal thing johnny had (as normal as this arrangement could be). now when he held your chin and forced you to look into his eyes, you saw the poor child snatched from his mama’s arms before he could even remember her face. on one occasion you let a few tears fall before you could push the thought from your mind
“why are you cryin’?” his brow furrowed in bewilderment.
“i’m sorry. i don’t know.” was all you could choke out. he used his thumb to swipe the tears away. that small, likely empty, gesture was all he could afford you as consolation. soon after, it became obvious that he was uncomfortable with the energy in the room. you watched him throw on a shirt and swipe his pack of cigarettes and lighter off the countertop. he slipped outside, letting the shack door slam shut behind him. some time passed and you followed him outside. judging by the numerous cigarette butts decorating the porch, he had spent that time chain smoking.
“can i have one?” you meekly request. sharing a cigarette with him was one of the few activities you two bonded over.
he pulled a fresh cigarette out of the pack and placed the filter between your lips. he leaned down and touched the cherry of his cigarette to the end of yours. you inhaled and let the warm feeling creep into your throat and down into your lungs.
and now here you were, hours later. one blood covered hand stationed on your right breast, playing with the sensitive bud, and the other stroking your cheek. he always dirtied your body with blood from a fresh kill as an excuse to bring you into the shower with him. he would roughly fuck you from behind into the tile walls that nancy always kept in pristine condition and whisper sweet nothings in your ear.
“good girl”
“you take me so well”
“you look so beautiful like this”
you stopped breathing. he had never called you beautiful before. such a delicate word had never fallen from his lips in reference to you. a rough tug at your hair ripped you away from the thought. he turned you to face him, making sure his cock never left its space between your legs, and kissed you roughly. your back was flush against the cool tile as he positioned your legs around his waist. the kiss was nothing short of hungry and animalistic. he sloppily fucked up into you, only breaking the kiss to take a few breaths every so often. this time when he finished, he came inside you. he loved to smear the white hot liquid against your skin as if he were marking his territory. tonight was different. you had long since learned not to try and guess what he was thinking and you didn’t dare ask any variation of “why?” it always irritated him.
he wrapped you in a towel and led you to the guest room to lay down. nancy be damned.
the moonlight illuminated his dark eyes and shone off his still wet dark hair. you ran your fingers through his hair, an intimate act that always kept him docile. you needed this moment to last as long as possible.
“yer never leaving me.” he never asked. he always commanded.
“i won’t. i promise.” you reassured him, just like any other time.
no matter how hard you tried, you would never fix him. the damage nancy had done was irreparable. all the love in the world couldn’t excuse his actions. even though you tried to silence the thoughts, your heart was too soft. as sick as it is, you love him.
but, he would never love you. he couldn’t. he needs you in a way he doesn’t quite understand, but it was nowhere near the love you felt for him. he’s gone the last twenty something years without tapping into that emotion. why would he start with you?
you often imagined a life away from nancy. a life where he was never corrupted by her evil. maybe you two would meet at the counter in a diner. he would ask about your university of texas sweatshirt and you would happily tell him about your studies. he would scrawl down his phone number on a napkin and tell you to call him. you would date until you graduated college and run off to get married. coastal california always sounded nice to you.
anywhere but newt, texas. anywhere but here.
maybe in that life he’d say “i love you”.
until you learn how to rewind time, you’d continue to bet on the losing dog that is johnny slaughter.

Adriana Arboleda
I find this episode so interesting and since I like to avoid many things, I've put off writing this post because I just don't know where to start.
Previously:
Armando was visibly upset when they mentioned the wedding in front of Betty, it was purely because he didn't want her to once again feel guilty and break things off. While at the same time he overheard a conversation with Nicolas and Betty that sounded like she was jealous and mad at him for "cheating" on her and that he was a bad boyfriend.
This feeds the distrust that Armando has towards Betty's fidelity and his insecurity regarding their relationship(and his role in Betty's life) as well as his rivalry that he has against Nicolas.
Betty was visibly upset with both Nicolas and Armando. For one because Nicolas really is a huge reason as to why Armando feels a certain distrust. As much as I find Nicolas endearing there's many things that annoy me from him. For example the fact that he continues to find ways to converse with Patty even though he knows that Betty doesn't like it, especially that she doesn't want Patty to know anything regarding where he works at and what he does, but Nicolas; to impress Patty, always brings up the topic of money to make himself more desirable. Yeah he's insecure and he wants to get her attention but that doesn't excuse his crappy behavior as Betty's best friend, someone that he considers as his family. That adds so much pressure, distrust, and resentment towards Betty and Armando's relationship. Yes Nic wasn't aware that they were in a relationship to begin with but Betty often times told him, reminded him, and got upset with him for telling or talking to Patsy Pats about Terra Moda or what he does for a living and the dangers of that information getting out.
Two: that Armando is getting married. For one it makes her feel inferior, that their relationship isn't as strong and that Armando isn't serious about her like she is of him.
Armando had convinced Betty to continue the affair, despite the fact he's getting married. He told her it was only for show, that he'd continue with the preparations of the wedding but call it off last minute. Mario had told him that he needed to get Betty on their side because she was the only one that could embellish the balance for the board meeting this is when we start getting the trails to the letter and why Betty rationalized Armando's behavior after reading the letter.
However that isn't the real reason as to why he goes to fix things. It's what he uses as an excuse to justify why he goes to fix things with Betty. Mario, to get him to do this, weaponized what Armando had told him earlier that day about what kind of relationship Betty and Armando have. Had Armando not shared any of what he did he wouldn't have had any ground to continue to manipulate him.
Currently:
It's the morning of the day AA arrives to Eco Moda. When Betty exist her office she sports a huge smile and greets Armando, who is absorbed by her presences and very content. His eyes follow her through his office as she moves around it and just the same, Betty's eyes are on him, barely noticing Mario. When she does, as she's about to exit the office she greets him, we see Armando with a smile just absorbed by her until Mario speaks and he composes himself to act like that didn't make him happy, joyful, at peace, etc...
Why does AA hold such a significance here?
Armando is now slowly accepting and willingly understanding his feelings(he does try to justify them as something else at times). Betty says she has felt this through his kisses and his affection towards her, that she knows that he loves her now and that he is faithful to her-when it comes to Marcela.
However as she said the previous night as she wrote in her diary that she isn't so sure about his love or fidelity when it comes to his true vice; the models. Models like AA.
Jealousy isn't something healthy in any relationship, even when media tries to paint jealousy as this normal and healthy thing that every person experiences, it's not.
In the previous post I mentioned what the definition of Jealous/y is. It's a combination of feelings of inadequacy, insecurity, or resentment but if you look up the definition of it it says "concern over the relative lack of possessions-"
Sometimes it isn't an object, rather a person, however the issue lays within the fact that person who feels the jealousy views said person as an object rather than a human. Armando's jealousy is possessive, insecure and resentful however Betty's jealousy is of inadequacy and insecurity. She doesn't feel resentful towards Armando for being attracted to "beautiful" women. She expects that from him.
AA represents Betty's insecurity as a woman in a physical form. When Betty finds out AA wants to see and speak with Armando privately she tries to stop that from happening, contrary to the past when she'd help the man out, this time she tries to stick to "he said he doesn't want to be bothered" but when Armando realizes who wants to speak to him he ignores his duties as the president of the company and the importance of him being in said meeting for the future collection, which will help Eco Moda be able to pay off its debt. Betty knows this so when she sees that Armando doesn't stop to think, at least of the company, much less consider her(the true nature of her anger), and that he is an easy prey or weak idiot to women like AA she gets angry at him but her jealousy lays where she feels the most insecure.
Armando forgets of Betty and how happy he was when he saw her that morning. Now all he can think about is AA.
AA is the symbol and the token object of Armando's weakness: seggs with society's "perfect" women. He places this "need" of his above anything, his responsibilities as president, as an engaged man, and as someone in an committed and mature relationship.
I find Mario's behavior interesting in this scene however. He stares at Armando with raised eyebrows and a frown on his face, contrary to before where he was trying to keep himself from laughing, however freaked out over Armando's feelings, this time he's annoyed at him.
I keep trying to figure out why he'd get annoyed at him for this. In this scene Betty is behind Mario, where Inesita and Armando have a clear view of her. Betty is trying to stay composed and not let the personal seep into the impersonal so Mario hasn't seen her. Yes we're fully aware that Mario is a man that is extremely detail oriented when it comes to human behavior which gives him an advantage to manipulate people and get whatever he wants out of them so he can simply assume, by Betty's tone, that she isn't pleased by this. However this scene and Mario's behavior is very much unlike him.
This is my speculation, not what we are being told.
Maybe based on how Armando had spoken about his relationship with Betty and his feelings for her, Mario was annoyed at Armando for his behavior like saying "How can you say you cherish her and that you love her as a friend and then do this to her? And yet I'm the terrible one? The one that doesn't understand why the plan is wrong? The one with iron skin?" or one could simply point out that Mario didn't want to get stuck doing most of the work in the meeting while Armando went off to spend time with a hot woman.
Later when Betty agrees that they should take a break, when Betty exits the office(I'm skipping that scene for now) and Mario is walking up to it he asks her if Armando is still in there, she tells him that he is and with AA. Mario then says he shouldn't go in there and interrupt them then but he notices Betty's demeanor and asks her if she's alright.
Betty doesn't look at him, she doesn't pay him attention. She doesn't even make eye contact with him so again Mario behaves naturally.
Of course he pretends to be unaware of the relationship Armando has with Betty. He says he won't go in there and interrupt them, but he pays close attention to Betty.
We're all fully aware that Mario would be capable of seducing Betty. He lacks all the moral and ethic rules to not do that. Mario is a villain, a well written one. So his behavior here is just odd imo.
I do believe and know based on his character, that Mario is also annoyed at Armando for screwing up once more, therefore jeopardizing the company and all that it implies. However, take into consideration what happened the previous day. Mario isn't stupid, he is way too smart. He knows that Armando deeply cares for Betty, he's known this all along though he has also tried to deny any true motive of Armando caring for Betty because she's ugly and he knows his best friend and only uses Armando's feelings towards Betty when it benefits him. He knows that Betty is important and special to Armando. Unlike Marcela.
Mario pointed this out the previous day when he told him that he[A] had made love with Marcela in the past but that from what Armando had shared it had never been sweet. He is fully aware that Betty is vastly different to all the other women Armando has been with and it's not only because she's "ugly" but because Betty is of extreme importance and significance to Armando.
Does Mario disprove of Armando's behavior towards AA being in Eco Moda? Yes.
For two reasons: One that Armando is screwing up the plan again. Two that Armando is a hypocrite who gets mad at him for making jokes about their relationship but then he goes and does that, (which is an even bigger disrespect to Betty, Armando's Betty.) all while constantly telling Mario that he is scum because he feels no guilt while he does.
Does Mario care about Betty's feelings? No and if he does it's not enough to make him have a change of heart because what he truly cares about is remaining in the social statues he's on with being the wingman of Armando.
Again even if he did care a little about how Betty feels it's not enough for him to re-evaluate his role in the plan and what comes above that is Eco Moda's ownership but it gives him more intel on how to manipulate Armando. In the meeting board, when he finally got a view of Betty when she went to sit back down at the table, Mario examined her quickly, did so as the meeting continued, glancing at her, studying her.
Resuming to a chronological order.
As Armando leaves to his office to speak privately to AA, Betty stays behind in the conference room with Inesita and Mario where as Mario said, she looked broken and not her computer like self.
Once Inesita suggest they take a break Betty says she'll go to her office, to which we see Mario with his worried expression, look at her and then turn to look towards Armando's office doors in a silent plea that Betty doesn't catch him indecent.
In their office, Armando is busy talking with AA so Betty doesn't catch some indecent Armando, but because she knows him, she knows that he's capable of acting like everything is normal. When she looks at AA she looks her up and down, insecure in herself as a woman with such a woman in the same room. Armando in this scene is absorbed by AA's body, a contrast to when he was absorbed by Betty's presence(that includes body). Barely paying attention to Betty and speaking to AA in an informal and casual way, something he doesn't even do with her. In some places in Latin America speaking formally is a sign of respect and impersonalism. When you speak more casually it implies a personalized relationship with someone: meaning that they have a more deeper connection than someone you work with, a friend, a family member, a lover, etc. Betty and Armando aren't even on that and they've had seggs.
Betty takes note of this, again, this now moves on from her simply being insecure as a woman to now being mad at Armando for behaving this way.
Once Betty exits the office to go grab their refreshments she overhears Armando call AA espectacular
Whenever Betty is mad she always places her hand to her hip. As she stops to talk to Marcela she does this, again implying her anger towards Armando.
The last thing I'll note about this whole AA thing at this time is how both Betty and Marcela react. Marcela goes into the office fuming, throwing shade and whatnot to display her jealousy towards AA and her possessiveness towards Armando, however Betty only displays her anger towards Armando while very minimalistically showing her jealousy because of AA.
Marcela's anger was targeted towards both of them while Betty's was towards Armando.
Later that day after AA leaves, Betty remains angry. When Armando tries to apologize for yelling at her, Betty ignores him and tells him they need to get back to work.
Armando not only made her feel insignificant as a woman but he also said she got on his last nerve, tell me you wouldn't feel bad about yourself and be mad at the person who did that.
Obviously Betty feels inferior to AA. Who wouldn't if we're being honest? She's hot. Again when it comes to Betty it isn't hard to understand or sympathies with her over this.
However lets just remember that Betty has always felt insecure and inferior as a human being and a woman.
Insecurity presents itself in many ways. For some it could be them acting loud and obnoxious, like Armando. For others it could be them never asking for anything or expecting anything because they believe they don't deserve anything, like Betty.
Slowly however, her relationship with Armando has built her self-esteem. She walks a bit taller, she doesn't have such a tremble in her voice anymore unless she's speaking to Marcela or Daniel. Even on this day she dresses differently. She sports a more juvenile outfit, there's a glow to her. Though her clothing isn't form fitting or revealing, she has changed her clothing. Even now since they started to date she doesn't wear the super long skirts with the very boxy blazers from the shoulders or the clothes she wore at the start of the show. She wears the green dress, the yellow, red, and black dress often and the green skirt suit(the olive green one with the skirt that's shorter than all the other ones she wears).
In the past, on one of their first dates, Betty joked that she was ugly and Armando got upset with her, told her that he didn't like that and that she needed to respect herself. Ironic ain't it?
Armando's sole attention has given her a boost of ego, but his confirmation the night they sinned(lol) that he too felt what she felt for him, which was desire, has helped her a lot. Again to recall what her first time was like, this second time around it built her self-esteem. Especially because since then Armando hasn't been able to keep his hands to himself whenever Betty and him have been alone together, out of office hours.
(Currently listening to the YSBLF playlist on Spotify and honestly I just wanna dance)
The previous night though aware of Armando's fidelity to her when it came to Marcela, which was why she said she felt no jealousy or the likes in regards to that relationship(outside of guilt) she still is very aware of Armando's s. addiction tendencies. It isn't only a matter in which Armando is weak to women like that that even when he doesn't want to cheat on Marcela or whomever, he still falls for their manipulative or even pushy tactics to get him to sleep with them.
Let's not forget that Betty knows Armando and his behavior when it comes to the Models because unlike Marcela who has only seen snip bits when she stands behind him when he's flirting, Betty has seen it and heard it all from Armando. She has been in the room when Armando and Mario discuss how to get away with his affairs, she has seen him in action, she has even heard and seen the way he plays women. However Betty lacks the knowledge we have of Armando's seggsual affairs.
What does this mean?
To Betty, this weakness of Armando is solely based on the body of the women he is sleeping with(which are all A Grade) and though to some degree this is true(his obsession with perfection etc.) there's more to it. Armando, aside from having slept with her and saying he desired her, has never acted eager to jump her bones or expressed it like he has about all the other women he has been with. He has never made her feel validated as women for her body, though she knows he has an emotional attraction to her, she doesn't believe he has a physical one(I'll get to that scene in time ok! for now I'm talking about it like they haven't screwed again) for her, or at least one that matters. So when she sees AA in the office and she looks her up and down Betty compares herself, not as Armando's girlfriend, but as a woman in general.
For us women looks are the most important and most valuable thing we're told we have. Without them, what are we?
When you grow up being the "other" of society standards for women you grow up with no self-worth. Comparing yourself to others becomes second nature. We know Betty has said she grew up lonely, only Nicolas was her friend, kids in school made fun of her. She never had this moment when she looked at herself and was at least okay with what she was staring at. The contrary, she hated it but learned to tolerate it. Her self deprecating jokes were her acceptance of it, her way to cope with the way the world treated her. It was for her to be able to not care as much about it. However the way people treat her based on her looks still stings and this time it's a lot more.
Could you put yourself in her shoes? All your life you go about it feeling lonely, ugly, unwanted, inadequate, etc. and one day after so much heart ache, a terrible relationship that left you emotionally disfigured and scarred, a man that is desired by so many women AND men, who is "educated", "smart", handsome and has a good sense of humor pays attention to you, how would you feel?
Realistically speaking; a lot more insecure.
Some people hate themselves so much that they hate when people take notice of them because it's like saying "you have terrible taste if you like me, therefore you are not as great." Burdening someone with your own self-hatred. Betty has shown this in the past, when Armando first started to pursue her. She asked him time and time again why he'd be interested in her or notice her because a man like him could never notice her as more than just his employee.
AA is the incarnation of Betty's own dilema. Her self-hatred and insecurity as a woman because in her eyes she lacks beauty. Body wise she doesn't have Meat on her bones, she has frizzy wavy hair, doesn't wear makeup and has one eyebrow plus a mustache. However, despite this, Armando has fallen in love with her and in a matter of seconds this is shattered.
Armando forgets who Betty is for him. He forgets what he feels for her, the importance and significance of her to him and his life and is enveloped with the idea of AA wanting to speak to him and not in this "fanatic" manor but as a man wanting to conquer. Betty's ego isn't only hurting but she(in complete) is hurting by this. Next to Marcela she knows she is the one to hold Armando's heart and now his desires, but next to women like AA, she is insignificant not just as a woman, but as a person in general.
Especially after Armando yells at her, after a long time of not doing so, he yells at her in front of AA, he forgets Betty is even in the room or in the world. While with Marcela he tries not to bring her up or the subject of the wedding because he knows it hurts her(visibly kept glancing towards her office when AA was asking about it, confirming that whenever he seeks her comfort when she isn't with him in the room he'll be facing or standing by her office), he doesn't even consider her when AA is the room. She's heard him say he'd forget all of his commitments and relationships and run away with AA and marry her, just that day she saw him kiss a picture of her and basically make out with it.
She believes that unlike Marcela, AA is real competition because she's hawt(even though Marcela is hawt too) however she knows that Armando isn't in love with Marcela or even interested in her for that fact but she knows that Armando is of AA. However again because Betty is so insecure as a woman she believes that she isn't even in a competition with AA, because if AA wanted to, she'd take Armando and he wouldn't even put up a fight, he'd go willingly on the first attempt. Add that to Armando saying that Betty gets on his last nerve?
He dug his own grave.
One could ask how is it possible that Armando didn't pick up on Betty being jealous?
For one because Armando has only experienced Marcela's jealousy which is loud and arrogant. She throws shade, she yells at him, she demands from him. Betty doesn't do that. She interrupts his one on one time with AA by entering his office and looking for some paper work. She drops a box full of things to ruin any momentum he could be building with AA. Her jealousy is displayed in quiet and timid ways. The one time it she makes it "loud" enough is when she hears Armando flirting with AA and steps out of her office and stands in the middle of them, until he notices her, but then, after she bumps into him, he yells at her. You can tell right away this isn't just like when he yelled at her in the past that it made her want to cry(I mean who doesn't want to cry when they're being yelled at) but this time it was something that hurt her deeply. For the reasons mentioned above.
And two because he's clueless. Though in the past episodes we have seen Armando learn to be in sync with Betty's feelings and make an effort to be attentive and understanding, all of that work of his is thrown out the window when AA appears, making Betty not only feel inferior and insecure as a woman in general but making her feel like she's nothing, not even in a "my fav. employee" type of way. He makes her feel worthless as his girlfriend.
This is when the hurt moves on to anger.
Anger at herself and anger at him for making her feel this way.
When the Love Guru brings all of this to his attention, Armando has a face of realization.
He truthfully thought Betty was just being her unaware and naïve employee self. The one who trips, who doesn't back up her files on disks, y'know, the one she was at the start of the novel. He doesn't think that Betty is acting out in jealousy because again she doesn't act like Marcela does.
When he finally realizes this thanks to Mr. Dimples, we see the sudden "oh crap" face. Like it all made sense and he knew he messed up.
It's interesting to see how these scenes play such a huge roll to Betty finally speaking up in the relationship later that night.
Sorry this post took so long for me to write. I wanted to fully understand the huge significance of Adriana Arboleda as she has been one since the start of their affair, unbeknownst of Betty.

[Part 15]
--
Warnings: mentions of blood and wounds
Classes were over, grades had been hung in the corridor, and Durmstrang celebrated that another year was over.
Kate was forcing a comb through her brown waves when she heard laughter and hasty footsteps outside her dorm. Returning her attention to her hair, she pressed more insistently on the knot that was refusing to untangle and contemplated the day ahead of her; the Annual Exposition of Dark Arts had arrived and with it, the crushing fear of not leaving Durmstrang anytime soon.
She had told Dumbledore and Rhode she was no auror; she didn’t have training in catching criminals, if that’s what one of these people were.
“Well, it’s not like someone will raise their hand and say ‘it’s me, Kate, take me to Azkaban.’” She murmured to her reflection in the rusty mirror next to the door.
Why? Why had Dumbledore put her there? What was she supposed to do? Almost six months had passed; she had heard from Dumbledore only once, and Rhode was so busy with the school’s events that had practically forgotten why she was there.
But Kate still remembered. She still remembered what happened to Flavia Hodges.
Having abused her locks enough, she attempted to shape them into curls, twirling some hairs around her finger. When she finished, she traced her dragon necklace before securing it under her robes.
Who would be willing to join a Dark Wizard? And why? For a greater good, as Corentin had said? Or maybe for more personal reasons? No one was exempt from guilt, no one was good or bad; Cassandra Steiner was rude and disagreeable, but she was a mediwizard and cared for others; Flavia Hodges was almost murdered and Kent Jorgensen would have protected the man he thought was guilty, but he wasn’t ill-intended and seemed to be a clever man; Leron Angelov was sick and violent with his son, but he had enough problems to be a criminal; Libor Marek was intolerant and prejudiced, adequate characteristics for a Death Eater, but that didn’t make him one; and the only thing that Kate knew about Mer Yankelevich was that she was a liar.
She let out a heavy sigh and made her way to the desk. After grabbing her cloak from her chair and fastening it around her neck, she grabbed the several items she intended to carry with her at all times: her wand, her diary, the list and the trick wand that the Weasley twins had sent her.
The night before, tidying up her belongings, she had found the box that Fred and George had sent her and thought it could be a good farewell gift to Vivien, in case she wanted to give a lesson to Jon Hopkins.
She felt uncomfortable with everything she was carrying on her. The list and her notebook were inside her improvised pockets, and both wands were safely tucked in each sleeve. Impractical for the occasion, but with everyone distracted with the AEDA, it was very easy for someone to slip out of there unseen, and she had no intention of anyone walking into her room and finding those items. After fastening her ankle boots, she headed outside.
Rhode had not been exaggerating when she described the AEDA as the biggest event of the year; the corridors were ostentatiously decorated with garlands and lights; countless carriages arrived on the castle grounds one after another and the doors to the dining hall were open all day, held up by pillars from which people could grab pamphlets describing the event’s activities.
Tables had been rearranged to form the various displays, and the students were dressed in their finest robes to honour the occasion.
The hustle and bustle of the day made the place unrecognisable, characterised by its usual gloom and darkness.
She advanced through the hall, pausing from time to time to watch project demonstrations and congratulate those taking part in the competition. Her eyes fell on a familiar face next to her; Leron Angelov sat behind a table where a seventh-grade girl explained her work to three wizards who, judging by their golden robes, were the judges.
“The potion lets you transfigure into whatever animal or object at will, only for a few minutes…” she exposed. Kate approached Angelov and leaned in to whisper, “Don’t do that.” Leron stared at her and stopped scratching his arms.
After wandering around for a while, she finally reached her own table, greeted her students and settled wizards and witches filed in and out of the room, delighting in the students’ magnificent works.
She wished with all her might that she could share their enthusiasm.
She gave several forced smiles, for Rhode’s sake, as the organiser of the event she wanted everything to go smoothly, but deep inside she was overwhelmed by a deep worry that she didn’t know how much longer she could bear.
“It’s really ugly.” She overheard one of her students, Greta, referring to her umbrella flower. Several of her children were standing behind a table, presenting their work to the audience.
A single umbrella flower, magically modified to remain a medium size, floated above the table; its vibrant red colour stood out among the sober tones of the place. The top of the plant, usually hollow to do justice to its name, now was decorated with thirty-seven fangs all around the base, giving it the appearance of a weird-looking lamp.
“You should be proud,” she reminded them, “You’ve managed to do something wonderful.”
“It’s still horrendous.” Jon Hopkins commented, wrinkling his nose.
“We’ve done next to nothing...” lamented Micael. Kate raised her eyebrows.
“What do you mean, you haven’t? We needed every single one of your plants, remember they didn’t all germinate, and only one of them got these results. And these posters explaining the whole process? They are priceless...”
They were still not convinced, so she kept insisting “In a few years, someone will want to do the same as you and they will be grateful to have your work as a reference”.
A man and a woman approached their table and after reading a few paragraphs of their report, left without comment. Everyone visibly deflated.
“By the way, where is Vivien? I have something for her...” asked Kate. Micael shrugged.
She looked around, but it was impossible to find anyone among the crowd. She saw a few familiar faces; like Jorgensen chatting animatedly with some seventh year students or Sheyi Mawut, who was making his way through the wizards towards her. There was no sign of any other teacher.
“Well, well! This is the first time in a long time I’ve seen first-year students exhibiting. What have we got here?” Mawut looked at Kate with a smile and she touched two fingers to Micael’s elbow. The boy looked at her and Kate nodded.
“We have created the first umbrella flower with teeth, Professor! It’s one of a kind because the species itself is unique. It floats like an umbrella flower and has teeth like a fanged geranium...”
Kate watched proudly as Micael’s other classmates came up to support him in his rehearsed explanation, some interrupting the speech out of excitement at being able to contribute something.
“And you did this on your own?” Suddenly the children fell silent and looked at the ground or anywhere but Mawut’s face.
“They’ve done all the hard work,” Kate interjected, “Finding the plant, germinating it, growing the geraniums, crossing the two species...”
“How wonderful... can I read your notes?” Mawut let out a laugh as a mountain of notebooks were at his disposal in a matter of seconds. “Maybe just one will be enough.”
The teacher’s kindness managed to relax Kate just a little.
“I’ve got better at my flying practice, Coach Mawut!” Greta commented, “Do you think I’ll ever be as good as Lena?” Kate raised her head at the familiar name.
“I’m sure you will.”
“Who?” she asked to extend that conversation.
“Lena?” Mawut pointed to some drawings and nodded, smiling, “Lena Yankelevich, she was an impressive seeker. Several top teams like the Vratsa Vultures or Heidelberg Harriers wanted to make contracts with her.”
“What happened?” Mawut closed the notebook and thanked Micael for his explanation. Greta tugged at Kate’s sleeve, causing the fake wand to brush against her skin.
“She died, Professor Williams...” she lamented.
“In the middle of a match She disappeared into the mountains and never came back. Some Muggle climbers were in the area and saw her, and we found her surrounded by three men who had stolen her broom. But we shouldn’t have gone...” He paused and in a quieter voice added, “The climbers got scared when they saw us. There was a lot of commotion and they pushed Lena... down the cliff. No one knew how Lena had come to that situation.”
A witch casually approached the table and wrote something down on a piece of paper. Everyone around her watched in silence as she looked at the plant and then nodded before turning away.
Mawut went to add something else, but Libor Marek joined them.
“This is an unfair competition.... and what is this? A plant?” He grimaced, and Kate glanced at Mawut before averting her eyes to the rest of the room.
Astrid Rhode had stepped on the pallet where her lectern stood. After rearranging her papers, the witch cleared her throat and drew everyone’s attention to her.
“I can’t begin to express how wonderful it is to have all of you here on this special occasion. To honour this event, let me introduce you to Lazar Berović, a former winner of the AEDA thanks to his system to identify and capture chameleon ghouls.” Kate joined the round of applause with little interest. The man in question took Astrid’s place and started his speech.
Her mind drifted to the single hair that had fallen on her sleeve, and she dully grabbed it between two fingers as slowly as she could, making an effort of not listening the ghoul-hunting narrative they were being ‘gifted’.
She had a document whose content had expanded over the last month, completing a full page and a successfully finished project. There was nothing to keep her at that school any longer. Nothing, except the original reason she was there: to find a supposed Death Eater.
But I want to leave.
Would Dumbledore be angry if she returned early? But how much longer would she have to stay?
I want to go home. I want to go to Charlie.
Then come home.
Charlie’s voice again, echoing in her head as if he were talking to her right next to her. This time she didn’t panic, it was the push she needed to make her decision. Dumbledore would have to settle for the list.
But she would be leaving a bunch of children in the hands of a murderer. No, she’d figure it out when she was safe. If anyone wanted the scroll Kate had in her possession, she’d have to flee before it was too late.
The speech was over, and the room filled with the previous murmur of happiness and excitement.
“Excuse me...” Kate stepped away from the group, leaving Micael in charge of defending the front, and made her way to the door.
She hadn’t realised how much she’d become accustomed to the noise until she’d walked a few corridors away from the dining room. With everyone partying in the middle, Kate and the silence went hand in hand all the way to the library. Or at least, that was where she was headed, had she not come face to face with Corentin.
“Ah, Katherine, I was just on my way to the exhibition...” The librarian’s smile crumbled at the sight of her expression.
“Corentin...” she whispered, “I think... I need to get out of here.” They both looked around, but they were alone.
“And how do you plan to do that? With a carriage? They don’t leave until the 20th.”
“I have to go get my trunk and apparate. I don’t know... I’ll jump to Romania and... then to England.” Corentin shook his head.
“I’d recommend three jumps at least.”
“I don’t know that many places! I don’t know where we are!”
“Keep your voice down.” They dissimulated again as two wizards passed in front of them. They greeted each other cordially, and when they were out of range, Corentin grabbed Kate’s elbow. “Everyone is in the Dining Hall. In fifteen minutes the band Rhode has brought will start playing so everyone will be paying attention. Go to your room and stay there until I let you know.”
“What are you planning?”
“We’ll apparate together. We’ll do Sweden, Germany, France and you go to England alone.”
“Corentin...”
“You go. I’ll pick you up in half an hour.” The librarian didn’t give Kate a chance to question him, and she watched him march in his bat form down the corridor.
She turned and broke into a jog towards the side staircase on the ground floor, a shortcut that would take her to her bedroom. She slowed when she felt a presence around her. She sensed desperation by legilimency, and it wasn’t her own. Anger too, even fear.
She turned a corner, but someone was waiting for her. Strong but elegant hands clamped over her mouth and grabbed her robe, pinning her against a chest.. Her pulse quickened, as did her breathing. She tried to free herself from the arm that held her, but it was too strong.
Slowly, the hand covering her mouth slid to the side and reached her neck. Kate couldn’t breathe. She felt the hand tighten around her neck and Mer Yankelevich’s needle-like nails made contact with her skin.
“Give me your wand.” Kate made a movement too sharp for the teacher’s liking and she gripped her tighter. “Slowly.” She tried to take a deep breath, but she had begun to shake in such a way she couldn’t concentrate on her breathing. “Give me your wand, now.”
With an idea half-formed in her head, she moved her left arm to release the wand. Seeing her, Mer snatched it from her hand and jabbed it into her back. “Let’s go for a walk. Don’t even think about running or screaming” They strolled to the other end of the ground floor. They passed by several wizards and in the eyes of the world everything was normal.
Just as the teacher muttered “Incarcerous” the Weasley twins’ wand trap rose into the air and began to hit Mer in the head. Taking advantage of her absent-mindedness, Kate broke free of her grip and ran off in search of the front door. She pulled her real wand out of her other sleeve, knowing Mer was very close behind her.
Just a little closer.
She ran through the sea of people in front of the door, hoping to get lost in the crowd. She glanced back as she went, but there was no sign of the teacher.
She left the castle with bated breath, and hastily pulled her diary from her pocket, muttered ‘Reducto’ turning it into a tiny, almost unrecognisable object, and continued running towards the bridge.
Maybe she could take refuge in the forest, go to the coordinates Dumbledore had given her, maybe the stranger would find her if it was an emergency. She cursed when she remembered she had burned the map.
She was about to reach the other side of the bridge when something hit her from behind, causing her to fall to the ground.
With a scream she hit the stone, and from the ground she saw Mer Yankelevich striding towards her. She looked around frantically, searching for her wand. She reached out and drew the weapon towards her before pointing it at the teacher.
Yankelevich paused, pointing her wand at Kate, and waited for her to rise from the ground. Both witches stared down at each other in a duelling stance, and the spells soon began to explode. Kate fought back as best she could, trying to remember some of Marek’s tricks, but Mer was the Charms teacher and she knew that at any moment she would tire herself out until she lost.
“You’ve got something that’s mine!” shouted Mer between curses.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about!” Kate started to walk backwards, trying to go around Mer and turn her back on the castle, but the teacher was quicker and cornered her against the bridge wall.
“The stone! Where is it?”
“I don’t have any stone!” Kate peeled away from the bridge wall, dodging spells with little grace. One in particular made her ears pop, and she could barely hear Mer accusing her of lying repeatedly.
“How did you get in the room?” shouted Yankelevich, “The column broke!” Kate gasped as a stunning spell hit her leg and she staggered backwards. Focused on not falling to the floor, she didn’t notice the parchment flying out of her robes.
“You broke it?” Kate asked as she tried to catch her breath, “Why?”
“It wasn’t on purpose. That’s the entrance to Grindelwald’s room, and I was trying to open it.” She took a few steps towards Kate, pointing her wand at her. “So tell me; how did you get in?” her accusatory tone made the young witch flinch. Kate bit her tongue, physically, to avoid revealing how wrong she was. In case she didn’t make it out of this situation alive, the teacher must not know her way into the room.
With Charlie in mind, she lowered her wand, hoping to give Yankelevich a sense of security. Band music began to play from inside the castle, conveniently deafening those inside and isolating them from the catastrophe that may or may not be occurring on the bridge.
In only an instant, Kate noticed how the teacher got distracted by the sound of the instruments and took advantage of her glance over her head to begin a duelling offensive. Mer defended herself gracefully, dodging and occasionally returning her opponent’s attacks. Kate’s chances diminished with each spell.
Yankelevich turned her back on the castle, and it was at that moment Kate realised her previous oversight. There, at the feet of the person who might be her executioner, the list of Death Eaters’ names lay within her grasp.
“Mer,” she began cautiously, “all this is for your sister? None of this is worth it.”
“What do you know! Do you have a dead sibling? You have no idea...” It was a stab in the heart without knowing it. The internal debate in Kate’s stomach was making her dizzy, and as she considered whether to tell her story, the teacher crouched at the sight of the document. “We all lose loved ones. Angelov, Jorgensen, Marek, myself.” Mer ignored her.
“So this is how Karkarov intended to communicate with the Ministry...” The parchment flew through the air as Kate’s spell impacted against the teacher’s hand. Both witches began a dance of lights and explosions again, swirling around unknowingly gravitating towards each other.
The castle doors burst open and a third wave of spells shot towards them. Libor Marek was almost galloping in their direction furiously airing his wand.
“Mer!”
Kate let out a choked cry as Yankelevich twisted her arm backwards. She had managed to physically reach her and after pulling at her forearm, one hand with threatening nails anchored her neck against the teacher’s chest; with the other, she pointed her wand at Kate’s temple.
Both witches looked at Marek with completely opposite expressions.
“Mer... Let go of the girl.” He warned, holding up a hand.
“Look, your guardian angel has arrived. Day after day, that man has been preventing you and I from having a friendly chat, always sitting outside your classroom, hovering in the corridors without letting you out of his sight,” she turned to Marek, “tell me Libor, what has this girl done for you?”
“This is not about her. You think I don’t know you were seeing Karkarov on the sly? You think I don’t know that you threatened to turn him in to the Ministry? You think I don’t know that you’re the one who’s been trying to get to that imaginary room?”
“It’s real! She got in with the help of the bat she has as a friend. And now she’s going to tell me how.”
Kate couldn’t believe what she was hearing. “You knew?” The accusation was drowned out when the grip around her neck tightened. “She tried to kill Flavia! She practically couldn’t speak!”
“And who do you think stopped her from going to the hospital wing to finish the job, huh?”
“Enough.” Mer finished. She forced Kate to walk to the bridge wall and bent her over the stone. She stared straight into the eyes of the abyss; the fog prevented her from seeing the end, if the cliff had one, and she knew that if she didn’t act soon all that would be left of her would be her memory. “I’m only going to ask you one more time. You found the resurrection stone, where is it?”
“There was no stone!”
She felt the needle stick as if it had happened in slow motion. She brought her hand to her neck as Mer released her and managed to drop to the ground just before the barrage of spells between her and Marek reached her. If she was dizzy before, now she was convinced she was going to throw up.
She slid down the stone to the ground as her vision blurred. She squeezed her eyes shut and opened them again, trying to maintain some control over her body. Spotting her wand near her, she awkwardly crawled towards it, avoiding a violet light that flew treacherously close to her.
She tried to get to her feet, but instantly collapsed again. The nausea was increasing, her vision was blurring more and more, her pulse was throbbing. She pushed her hair out of her face as best she could and rubbed her eyes, but she couldn’t quite focus on the dancing figures circling before her.
Corentin was waiting for her somewhere, probably by the door of her room to take her to a safer place. But she couldn’t reach him, not without the list.
Kate frantically searched for the paper somewhere on the bridge, hoping with all her might that the wind wouldn’t suddenly pick up. Moving her head like that did not help her condition, and the migraines she had been experiencing made their appearance to reinforce her misfortune.
Where were the cavalry? Why was no one from the castle coming to the rescue?
A bitter taste rose in her throat, forcing her to spit out some saliva, which to her horror was whitish.
No one would come to help her. She would have to save herself.
With what little energy she had left, she stumbled to her feet and took a few steps towards the other side of the bridge. The list was at her fingertips, but the world was spinning and twisting, and now both hands were trembling.
The moment her hand made contact with the paper, a spell exploded against the stone above her head. But she couldn’t back out now. She reached out and caught the parchment between her fingers. She pointed her wand at herself, still shaking, and felt the familiar tug in her stomach that would pull her out. Yankelevich looked with terrified eyes at what was about to happen and pointed her wand at Kate.
The green light of the unforgivable curse never grazed her.
Kate collapsed to the floor of the grimy Grimmauld Place street with a sob. Corentin had warned her about this; I recommend at least three jumps, the librarian had said.
Lying on the floor with her arms stretched out on her sides, she looked to her right; her eyes were full of tears and her arm full of blood.
I recommend at least three jumps.
She felt herself choked up again. This time, some foam adorned the corners of her lips, while trying to reach her wand with her left hand.
Three weary taps against the ground caused the building in front of her to awaken, revealing the door of the Black family home. Breathing was getting harder and harder, and with her ears increasingly clogged, Kate tried, to no avail, to stop her splinching from bleeding. Without dittany, it would be impossible.
She raised her wand towards the building with a groan. Unable to utter a word, she concentrated on firing several red lights into the windows. Some bounced off the walls and others off the glass, and she prayed it would be enough, for keeping her arm up was draining her strength.
As the convulsions became more violent, her hand fell to the floor with the rest of her body.
Attempting to keep her eyes open, she made out figures coming out of the house; one was a lanky, black blob she likened to a Dementor by the way his cloak moved; the other was much shorter and rounder with a hint of red hair. The rest of the people who rushed at her were indistinguishable.
Severus Snape forced her eyes open with his fingers, wearing a worried expression. Recognising him, Kate screamed, or at least she thought she did. The only sound that came out of her mouth was a painful sob.
“Darling, darling, look at me, it’s going to be alright,” Molly reassured. Kate wanted to shout that nothing was right, that she was in danger, that the man who was pouring the contents of a potion down her throat was a traitor.
The convulsions hadn’t stopped yet, but the unbearable burning in her arm did. She wanted to watch her wound heal, but Molly clutched her tear-soaked cheek preventing her from seeing the amount of blood that had gushed out from her arm.
“You’ll be fine, sweetheart, you’ll be fine.”
She choked on her saliva and Molly tilted her head to help her spit out the remnants of foam. Several conversations sprang up around her; all seemed distant, like an echo in a cavern.
When the shaking stopped, the relief was almost immediate. Snape forced her jaw open, emptying a vial into her mouth again. The commotion didn’t seem to end; several wizards and witches combed the street for any Muggle witnesses, and others were busy inspecting windows and doors.
Intense pain engulfed her head and mind. Attributing it to migraines, Kate missed the long, silver strand that shot from her temple in the direction of an unknown wand. She closed her eyes, and with one last deep breath everything went black.

my queer perspective and analysis of early TSwift discography 🏳🌈
Even though I was not in the south, my community was a lot like Taylor’s country fan base. I’m a bi woman who grew up in a Catholic family, going to Catholic school. My peers and teachers were largely conservative and homophobic. I would like to share my perspective on Taylor’s music and lyrics as I experienced them growing up.
I’ve included dated screenshots from my Facebook. (Please respect my privacy by not sharing these screenshots outside my post.)
I identified with Taylor’s music beyond any other single artist. Her music was so cathartic for me. That’s not to say I didn’t connect other artists, but many of Taylor’s songs felt very intimate. I posted (cringy) things online about how Taylor was ripping lyrics from my diary.
My comment to a friend below this post emphasizes just how close to home her lyrics hit.
Everyone else said that Taylor Swift wrote like she was inside their heads so I figured everyone else felt the same way as me. But looking back, I likely had a lot more in common with Taylor than the average girl.
Her songs lean heavily on a sense of longing, uncertainty, and loneliness that I felt every day as someone trying to figure out who I was with few people to talk to openly. She also returns again and again to what I’m calling “friendship romance.” (This friendship theme is stronger than ever in her recent 1989 and Rep love songs.) We also see the start of a theme of forbidden love that only gets stronger in her later albums.
Let’s explore a few key songs from the Taylor Swift and Fearless albums!
Two caveats:
Liz Rose co-wrote most of the early songs with Taylor. However, she has said on record that she was more of an editor when it came to Taylor and lyrics.
It’s not my goal to argue who Taylor wrote these songs about, merely to point out the gay feelings and themes in the songs through the lens of my experience. I do link to some other Gaylor analysis of these songs that does reference specific people if you are curious.
Taylor Swift
Tear Drops on My Guitar
I fake a smile so he won't see, What I want, what I need, And everything that we should be
I spent a lot of time listening to my girl friends talking about people they had crushes on. I was oddly possessive/protective of my friends but tried to hide it. That possessiveness came from non-platonic feelings for them even before I acknowledged it. They knew me and understood me. We were so close. I always wanted more of their time and attention and affection.
The only one who's got enough of me to break my heart, He's the song in the car I keep singing, don't know why I do
Because of my attachment, it felt like a betrayal when they turned their attention away from me to a cute boy, even though I knew it wasn’t really. I didn’t understand why this bothered me so much or why I thought about them so much.
In my experience, the intimacy of female friendship (and thus the need to hide non-platonic feelings) is much stronger (and more painful) than between a guy and a girl.
It’s important that the demo version of this song is gender neutral. Instead of Drew, the song is addressed to “you.” Honestly, that’s really what I heard when I listened to the song anyway. It especially helps explain this line that I really connected to:
And there he you goes so perfectly, The kind of flawless I wish I could be
You can’t tell me this self-reflection of a lovers’ attractiveness is hetero. What straight girl ever looked at a guy and wished she could be as flawless as him? I know I looked at girls I wanted to like me and wished I was as beautiful/cool/perfect as them. I did not feel that way about the guys I was interested in. The only reason that I might feel that way about a guy was if I was enamored with his girlfriend and jealous that she liked him.
I’m Only Me When I’m with You This song describes an incredibly close friendship that is romantic, the most straightforward example of “friendship romance.” You feel everything this other person feels. You feel like you can’t live without them because they matter to you more than anything. I related to this song like crazy and still do.
I don't try to hide my tears My secrets or my deepest fears Through it all nobody gets me like you do
The romantic nature is emphasized in the chorus when Taylor describes trying to convey her feelings for this person.
I'm only trying To let you know that what I feel is true And I'm only me when I'm with you
Less compelling, but I have to add, knowing everything about you includes knowing you are gay. Sharing that secret created a bond unlike any other. In a community where that was especially taboo, you couldn’t tell just anyone. So anyone who did know was extremely special. (I only told other gays initially and then subsequently fell in love with them because we shared everything.)
The Outside
You saw me there, but never knew That I would give it all up to be A part of this, a part of you
Besides the obvious trope of young queer people feeling different, I always felt like I was on the outside of social circles and cliques of girls I connected with. They tended to be freaked out by how much I liked them or just completely unaware of how much young sweaty-handed me was hanging on their every word. Not being included became extra painful when it was not only a social rejection but a romantic one as well. She writes that she wants to be “a part of this, a part of you,” which implies a romantic interest in addition to the more general social one. This really rang true to young gay me.
Invisible
She's never gonna love you like I want to And you just see right through me but if you only knew me We could be a beautiful, miracle, unbelievable Instead of just invisible
Like shadows in a faded light
This song again focuses on pining for someone while they long for someone else. Taylor writes “if you only knew me,” but then says “we could be ... instead of just invisible”, implying that they do know each other just not in the way Taylor wants. This feeds back into this theme of unrequited (friendship) love that it so common for young queer women.
She can't see the way your eyes Light up when you smile She'll never notice how you stop and stare Whenever she walks by
This songs also brings in the idea that her (presumably) straight friend is pining after a boy--because who do we usually categorize as unobservant and careless with feelings? Not girls. The song makes a lot more sense with the pronouns switched around. *He can’t see the way your eyes light up, but I can!*
(Taylor even dedicated this song to the gays on Rep tour B-stage.❤)
Fearless
This was the album that I sat up at night listening to over and over again. I think it is extremely gay.
Fearless
On the most basic level, you don’t need to be fearless unless you would otherwise be afraid, as one might be when embracing the gay. One could argue it’s scary to be vulnerable and open yourself up to any new relationship, but she says this is unusual for her. So this song is about something new and different, something that could be scary but is so intoxicating. This is exactly how I felt about embracing my desire to be with women. (This breathless feeling is also expressed on Jump Then Fall.)
Well you stood there with me in the doorway my hands shake I'm not usually this way but You pull me in and I'm a little more brave It's a first kiss, it's flawless, really something, it's fearless.
She describes having a first kiss, but it’s important to note she has stated her first kiss was when she was a freshman in high school at age 15, long before she was working on the Fearless album. So this was the first kiss of a relationship, or maybe as I’m inclined to believe, her first kiss with another woman.
You Belong with Me
This song again emphasizes that she knows this person better than anyone else and should be with them-- friendship romance anyone? Taylor told the media this was based on a phone call she overheard between her guy friend and his girlfriend, but I have to believe this was an extension of her many previous songs on this theme.
Love Story
Gaylor fans have written so much about this song, which is written partially from Romeo’s perspective about a forbidden romance. She says the love is difficult but real, a sentiment I attached to as a young gay navigating expressing my feelings under the watchful gaze of homophobic adults and teens.
What I want to add is that it’s so important that she references the sense that this has been building up without words.
Is this in my head? I don't know what to think
If she was writing about a more typical relationship, this wouldn’t make sense, but between two closeted young gays, this makes perfect sense. I experienced “relationships” that were unspoken or only referenced in a joking tone, but when it came down to it, there was an acknowledged bond beyond any of our other friendships. We held hands and slept together at sleepovers. If she was upset, she came to me to be held. She was my someone. (And yes, she turned out to be gay, too.) Imagining a day when we both proclaimed our love was so cathartic.
Forbidden desire is also the main theme of the deluxe version track Untouchable.
Breathe
And we know it's never simple, never easy Never a clean break, no one here to save me You're the only thing I know like the back of my hand
This song is another one of the exceptionally gay and well-discussed Gaylor songs. Taylor again refers to someone she knows better than anyone, similar to the above friendship love theme.
In the song she says goodbye to someone who wasn’t quite her someone--which is very gay. She chooses to sing “feeling like I just lost a friend,” rather than saying she actually just lost a friend. Despite how Colbie Callait described the song--“ it's about having to let someone go and say goodbye to a really good friend”--it’s clear this was more than a platonic bud. This resonated strongly with my unspoken romance experiences and the unspoken “breakups” that followed.
She references a variety of different reasons for this situation in the verses, none of which are concrete. The gentle “sorry” repetition at the end further complicates our murky understanding of what caused this separation. It reads to me like a meditation on the “maybe” & “later” world of closeted gays and the repercussions that has on their relationships.
The Way I Loved You
In The Way I Loved You, Taylor compares her current love interest (a guy who is sensible, charming, endearing, and everyone else likes) to her past flame who made her feel everything all at once. (Please see this eloquent lyric analysis from @all-my-possessions for more about this phenomenon of Taylor comparing relationships with vague pronouns in a super queer way.)
Breakin' down and comin' undone It's a roller-coaster kinda rush And I never knew I could feel that much And that's the way I loved you
This song has an easy gay reading but is still strongly relevant for this bi woman. (That is to say, whether gay or bi Taylor might have felt this way. Despite eventually realizing that I was bi, for a while I felt like I was gay simply because liking guys often felt so forced and dull in comparison.) Discovering your affection for women is intoxicating, and actually being involved with one is addictive. If you have repressed your feelings for women then suddenly allow yourself to feel and express it, those feelings come on strong. Any other relationship seems just “comfortable.”
Add in the pressure of hiding as I felt the need to do and a young country musician definitely did, a young gay romance makes for an intense, even explosive, relationship like she describes in this song and references throughout the album (on Tell Me Why, You’re Not Sorry, and The Other Side of the Door).

Change
This powerful anthem is about the sense that the world will improve and we will get what we deserve. There were so many “walls” politically and socially preventing gay people from being themselves, especially in a conservative community like mine. When I was exhausted from hiding my feelings, lying, and listening to nasty comments about gay people, I would listen to Change and think about how we would knock those down and be free.
You can walk away, say we don't need this But there's something in your eyes says we can beat this
These walls that they put up to hold us back will fall down This revolution, the time will come For us to finally win
It always reminded me strongly of the gay rights and gay marriage movement I read about in the news. With each new setback, activists rallied and came back stronger.
(Taylor sang an emotional version of this on Rep tour.)
White Horse
I used to really mourn the loss of the white picket fence life my friends and family all expected for me. I figured as a queer woman that wouldn’t be in the cards for me, especially if/when my community found out and rejected me. (Luckily that has not been the case, but it seemed likely at the time.)
I'm not a princess, this ain't a fairy tale
This song hit that sore spot, but it also reminded me there was a lot more of the world out there. The opinions of some people were small and easy to leave behind for other dreams.
This is a big world, that was a small town There in my rear view mirror disappearing now And its too late for you and your white horse to catch me now
I’m not the only one who saw a broader homosexual theme to this song.
SuperStar
I didn’t know this song from the platinum version growing up, but the lyrics focus on forbidden love. 👀
This is wrong but I can't help but feel like There ain't nothing more right babe Misty morning comes again and I can't Help but wish I could see your face And I knew from the first note played I'd be breaking all my rules to see you
I would love to follow up with more from Speak Now and Red, but this post is long enough for now! I spent a lot of time compiling and organizing this. Thank you to @all-my-possessions and @kaydar for inspiring me with super thoughtful queer lyric analysis and to my friend for feedback. I hope this is helpful. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts!

Story: “The Maze at Kilgetty Hall”
What horror stalks the garden at night?
My dear Robert,
You know I am not in the habit of apologizing to servants or retainers. Nevertheless, when you are next at the Hall, you may expect from me some gruff words that resemble such. I am writing now that I may explain.
When you were here last it was to go over the terms of certain bequests I was making. One such term, attached to the Hall, was an absolute prohibition on the presence of any child under the age of majority inside the park. You queried this. In reply I believe I uttered an oath to the effect that you should leave my business to me.
Well—
It is the garden, in particular a certain triangle of it, that explains this prohibition. You know the place. In the crook between the north and east wings of the Hall stands the shabby remnant of a small hedge maze, itself walled off from the garden by a rampant wall of blackthorn and broom. You once asked why I allowed such a wild growth to fester. Then too I had for you words for which I must apologize.
I will begin to explain by recalling to you a tradition that Mary Allingham, the "witch of Grimpen," was extinguished at Kilgetty, though the historical fact is only that the sixth duke presided at her trial. I will also remind you that it was the disappearance of the seventh duke's young heir that caused the title and Hall to pass to my branch of the family.
My own father and grandfather made it a great point to keep the maze locked, and forbade me from approaching it. I remember once being caught too near it by my nurse, who shook me most violently and said if ever I wandered into its depths I would be absolutely lost and never heard from again—"no matter how loud ye cry," she said, words which made a lasting impression on me.
Only once, and at great provocation, did I ever penetrate the maze. First, however, I must describe what I had learned about it by then.
Among my great-grandfather's papers are extracts from a diary kept by his uncle, the seventh duke. I set out here my own fair copy of those passages that seem to me most pertinent.
July 27 Mary Allingham, reputed wise woman is to be ["examined" possibly; the seventh duke was only nine here when he wrote] tried in the morning. Father sits as one of the judges.
July 29 The witch hath somehow fled. Georges says he saw her cat darting into our park at dawn. Father threatened to whip him if he does not hold his tongue.
August 5 Much tumult in maze last night, and uprore [sic] indoors.
August 8 Three nights of great tumult within maze, as though a bear has got trapped inside. Georges confirr'd [sic] long with Father.
August 18 Father [remonstrated?] Georges at length—maze gate found swinging open. I overheard [Margery?] telling Mrs. Jenkins of a shadow slipping in and out of the maze, but she was [stifled?] when I was glimpsed.
August 22 A babe dead in the village, which we learned when a [deputation?] visited Father. All looked [frightened?] afterward. Father has quite forbidden me to stray from the house.
September 2 Another babe is dead. Father has ordered me to pack for London. I leave tomorrow.
I quote one passage from a single page, date much later:
May 6 I see that the blackthorns my late father caused to be planted across the face of the maze have come in magnificently. Old Georges takes great pride in them, but became quite stiff when I asked if it would be practicable to open the maze. He made much of the fact that my father had ordered the pathways within be planted with asafoetida as an influence against evil.
I will not quote the entries concerning the disappearance of the duke's young son, but only note that his grief and horror, which undoubtedly contributed to his early demise, are quite plain to read. Though at first it was presumed the child drowned in a recently dug well, the duke becomes morbidly concentrated on the fact that the gate to the maze had been found "swinging wide" the day the child vanished. He complains too of hallucinations—or so he takes them at first; his doubts on that score grow—of the voice of a child crying from out the maze in the nights that follow his son's disappearance.
I come now to my own experience with that part of the garden.
We had had a garden party there only a week before—a charming time until it became an occasion for distress and, finally, bereavement. I have never told anyone the sequel, and I charge you now to keep it to yourself as well.
My own bedroom overlooks the maze, and in fifteen years occupancy I had never once been disturbed by any commotion from it. But I was awakened one night shortly afterward by what I took to be the voice of a child crying out wordlessly. I tried shutting it out—there are many night creatures whose voices can uncannily mimic that of man—but was finally driven to open a window and look out.
There ought to have been little to see in the maze below, for the privets have completely closed in over the pathways. On this night, however, there was great agitation to be seen in the shrubbery, as of some heavy beast attempting to shove its way through, and again I heard a child calling in great terror. I immediately took to my heels outside.
The gate was as ever locked, but by the light of my lantern I saw fresh dirt beneath one of the blackthorns, as though a burrowing animal had tunneled its way in. I was both fearful and hopeful at this, for it would explain how the child I heard could have entered the maze. I instantly roused the gardener, and we got the key to the gate.
There seemed little prospect of becoming lost within. The maze is quite small, and we would be breaking branches as he pushed through. And yet almost immediately on glancing behind I found that I had lost Edwards. Worse, the flame in my lantern began to fail intermittently. The walls too had grown so close together that I found it impossible to tell if I were pushing along a pathway or through one of the hedges.
After a moment of panic, I endeavored to push in a straight line, thereby to break out or run into the brick wall of the Hall itself. This hope proved delusive—either I was walking in circles or some enchantment had bewildered my sense of direction, for I only ever pushed aside more branches. In my struggles I was further unnerved by the sobs of that terrified child, and still more by the rattle of something immense rending its way through the hedges. I was quite certain before long that some thing was actively on the hunt inside the maze with me, and more than once I cowered in place as I felt it push past.
I was nearly at my wits' end when I tripped onto my face. This was fortuitous, for between the roots of a hedge I saw the glimmer of the open gate.
But before I could attain it, something stepped between me and it. I beg you to believe me when I say that it was the leg and paw of an immense cat. You will insist I was baffled by the darkness, but I will maintain it had the girth and stamp of an elephant's foot. Certainly the hedge between us shivered and shook as though it would be uprooted.
I covered my head with my hands. When I looked up again—I know not how many minutes later—the way was clear, and on my stomach I bellied out. Though it had been blackness itself within the maze, and barely midnight when I entered, it was a bright and cloudless morning that I emerged into.
Edwards I found in his cottage, drunk, and I discharged him on the spot, for which he gave me copious thanks when next we met in the village.
The maze I shut again, though for the next week I continued to endure to the wails of some bereft infant echoing from within. Then silence closed over it.
Whatever dwells within that maze I believe had not the power to trap me there, as it may be trapped, only to confuse me as it is confused. But I am less sanguine about those that it preyed upon in the days of the sixth duke. For that reason, I will not suffer any child to approach nearer the maze than the foot of my own carriage drive.
You may remember the garden party in question. It was the day that the Haydon child went missing.
Yrs, etc.

Bunnicula’s Origins As Told By Chester: A Summary By Me
I said I'd talk about this so I'm gonna. It's actually quite interesting!
Kind of a long read, everything under the cut in case you want to skip this.
First I'll summarize the story Chester told as best I can (it ended up going on for two chapters). Then I'll give my analysis on it along with a short comparison to the cartoon.
Story:
The story begins in Transylvania. In a small town called Kasha-Varnishkes there lived a family of three: A mother and her two sons Hans and Fritz. But the mother had a terrible illness that was getting worse by the day. The boys knew things didn't look good and the only way their mother could get help was from a doctor all the way in London. However being a poor family, there was no way for them to make the trip. The boys remember an article they see in the newspaper about a local scientist, Dr. Emil Alphonse Diabolicus (It spells D.R.E.A.D, very funny Chester) ,looking for assistance. He was rumored to be a mad scientist, playing god in his castle laboratory and other strange rumors but no one knew for sure what it is he did. Hans and Fritz saw this as their chance to raise money to go to London and took the job. They were greeted by the housekeeper first, an elderly woman named Erda. She put them to work right away.
The work they were expected to do was simple: Gathering rabbits.
Two weeks had passed and the boys were getting curious as to why they had to gather so many rabbits. So one night when it was time for them to return home from work, they asked the housekeeper for a glass of milk each before they went home. She left the room, giving the boys the chance to look around and meet the doctor himself for the first time.
They stumbled onto his lab. The room was filled with cages upon cages of bunnies, all alive and well. Yet something about them was . . . odd. "At least they're alive." One of the boys commented. "Alive . . . yet not alive." came a voice from behind them. It was Dr. Diabolucus himself, holding two glasses of milk. He was pale and thin, wearing a black silk robe. He went on explaining that the rabbits were for experiments. In his loneliness, he wanted pets that would live forever so that he would always have company. Dr. Diabolicus pulled out two rabbits from a cage, two white rabbits with black markings on them.
"These two are my personal favorites. Bella and Boris. They will never leave me." he said. He was basically genetically making vampire rabbits. Just then, Erda the housekeeper came into the room in a panicked state.
"Master, they're coming! We must hurry!"
"Calm down woman, who's coming?"
"The villagers! They're heading this way with torches. They're out to destroy you!"
"The fools . . . don't they know that this is the one time of the year where they can't destroy me?" As Chester explained numerous times in the book, the day was 'The Day of the Devil' and reason why he didn't want to go camping in the woods in the first place.
"But master, the rabbits! All your research will be gone! What do we do?"
The doctor in horror realized she was right. Unfortunately for him, he knew that he couldn't save them all and decided to take Bella and Boris with him. They were to retreat to London where an old relative of the doctor's had a vacant house for them to stay in. The boys saw this opportunity to finally go to London and went with the doctor, Erda and the two rabbits.
As the long journey took place, Stella and Boris ended up breeding with other rabbits along the way, growing the population of vampire rabbits in the world until they finally reached London. Hans and Fritz never planned to stay with the doctor forever, they just needed a ride so they could find the one person to heal their mother. Dr. Diabolicus overheard them talking about this one night and was saddened. He wanted a family of his own. Erda suggested to him that he should make them immortal, but as the doctor explained: "I can't do that in the time I have, I don't have my lab anymore. Besides, keeping them here by force would make them hate me. They deserve to be free and live their natural lives."
However, later that night as he spent his time in the manor's library, he stumbled across his cousin's diary. In short, the cousin was a vampire and there were several others like him. All this time the doctor was a vampire and didn't realize he could simply make others immortal by biting them. He was making rabbits immortal by pure science rather than natural vampire ways because he had no idea of his full potential. THIS tidbit I found the most interesting.
Speeding things up: He turned the boys into vampires along with his housekeeper. Overtime, the boys forgot about their real parents and referred to Dr. Diabolicus and Erda as their new parents. Soon Bella and Boris had an offspring, which was very odd. Usually rabbits have several bunnies in a litter but they only had one. A small one that was never named.
Back in Transylvania, the old castle had been destroyed but the mother of Hans and Fritz believed her boys were still alive somewhere. So banning an angry mob together, she and her husband sought out to go to London in search of them. Along the way they encountered the vampire rabbits Bella and Boris left behind, killing them until they were sure none was left. They eventually make it to London and deja vu happens. They were gonna burn down their home like before. But just as the family was escaping, Boris jumps out of the doctor's arms back into the house. Dr. Diabolicus rushed back in to get him and the two were never heard from again. This left Erda, Hanz, Fritz and the two rabbits left to escape to America and start anew. There they lived and over the years made an exact replica of their old manor through savings. They took their adopted father's place in creating a lab and doing experiments like he did, Erda now becoming their housekeeper as before. One night, Bella and her offspring escaped out an open window and they too were never seen again.
But of course we know who the offspring was all along. Bunnicula.
TLDR: There was a lonely vampire scientist in London, who had no idea he could make people immortal through a bite and genetically made vampire rabbits. Two of them eventually gave birth to Bunnicula who escaped and now currently lives with Chester, Harold, Howie and the family.
Analysis and Cartoon Comparison:
Crazy that Chester was able to come up with all of this in one night. As interesting as it was, there were a few problems.
1. The boys were still young when they were transformed into vampires, yet it's implied they grow up and follow in the doctor's footsteps. Vampires don't age physically, that's kind of the whole point of being immortal so I don't understand that part.
2. First the doctor didn’t want to keep the boys there by force, saying “They should live their mortal lives naturally.” but the minute he finds out he can bite them, that thought was just completely thrown out the window. Aight then I guess Chester realized at this point he was making the Dr. Diabolicus ‘too innocent’ and made things gradually get more sinister.
3. It's said that the mother was living on her own with her two sons but suddenly she has a husband?? Could be Chester's fault for not being consistent, I mean this was all 'made up' after all. And if the family was too poor to get to London in the first place then how . . . how did they manage to go there later? Did the parents and the mob collectively pay their way across country or was it by ‘sheer determination’? Do not underestimate a mob I guess.
4. In book 1, Bunnicula was found in a movie theatre during a showing of 'Dracula'. He had been in a shoe box filled with dirt with a note tied around his neck that said "Take good care of my baby." or something along the lines of that.
The message was wrote in romanian, typical vampire stuff so that all fits in. But that begs the question on who wrote the note. Bella and Bunnicula had escaped their original vampire owners and I find it hard to believe that another vampire found Bunnicula and took him in. Unless somehow Bella wrote the note? With animals being sentient and sometimes able to do human things like write and read, Harold being a great example in being the writer of the Bunnicula book series then later Howie takes up after him and writes his own book series, It's not too out of the box. Plus it specifically said 'my baby' which could factor in Bunnicula's actual mother rather than someone referring to their pets as 'baby'. Then that brings up the question “Vampires can be born then?” It’s still a mystery in the books whether Bunnicula is really a vampire or not with his odd behavior, but even in the cartoon he’s different from your traditional vampire so I guess it’s possible? Does that mean the vampire bunnies in the book are only half of what they are so they can still have babies? I dunno.
That's what I gathered from the book telling of Bunnicula's origins.
In the cartoon? Straight-up Dracula was his owner, no questions asked. What little origins we get in the cartoon is this: Bunnicula was originally Dracula's pet living in Transylvania. Dracula at some point went to New Orleans to build an apartment building which was meant to be like his summer home or something. The very same apartment building that Mina currently lives in. And unlike the book, Bunnicula was found locked in the basement of said apartment building by Mina for reasons unknown. Could it be that Dracula was found out, being hunted and wanted to keep his pet rabbit somewhere safe until he could return to him? Judging the book story it seems plausible. And it IS rumored that in season 2 he’ll be coming back as a villain, possibly returning to claim his rabbit.

Under a Lake with No Water
The Woman was drab and defeated,
Twas Death, Herself, she had greeted.
Her death was denied
By a boy, only five
And from that place they retreated.
The Woman was warm and full,
Had been given time to mull.
When the boy returned
His offer she spurned,
And left for Kirkwall by Firstfall.
By Haring the woman was dying.
The townsfolk assumed she was lying.
The elf tried to help her
By offering shelter.
The Woman agreed. She was crying.
The light of the fire was glaring.
The elf persistently staring.
But she turned away,
And come the next day,
The month of Haring was ending.
In Wintermarch her spirits sank,
She sat down by the riverbank.
She looked at her life,
At all of the strife,
And wondered whom she should thank.
The robbers would surely have killed her
Her belly with rocks they’d have filled her
Had not the young man
From a caravan
Launched his arrows out from the wilder.
She stayed with his caravan,
So grateful was she to that man.
Together they were,
Of his love, she was sure.
She was happy throughout Guardian.
But by Drakonis his love had strayed,
She caught him with the Lord’s handmaid!
The Woman, upset
Grabbed a knife and then crept
To the bedroom where, there, they were slayed.
On the run once again from the law,
She knocked on a Cumberland door.
A Sister with horns,
Breath smelling of prawns,
Bid her fall on her knees on the floor.
The Woman obeyed and was hurried inside
She needed a friend, or somewhere she could hide.
The horned Sister asked
Why The Woman was masked?
The Woman resisted her questions and flied.
On the streets, The Woman was left.
Once again, she resorted to theft.
She’d spurned her on kind!
No more did she mind
That of company she was bereft.
A dwarf passed her by on the street,
Advising her somewhere to eat.
She quickly agreed
To a half-pint of mead
At the tavern, they both took a seat.
The dwarf said: ‘You’ve been through a lot,
But it seems you may have forgot
Who then is to blame?
To mention your name
Would lead to you saying ‘’I’m not!’’ ‘
‘In truth, I do not understand
How much suffering is by my hand.
I’ll tell of that day
Back in last Kingsway…’
But The Woman stopped short there to stand.
Into the tavern the warriors came.
To look for the girl, make her blood stain the drain.
The dwarf cried: ‘Get down!’
He then span around
To confront, to fight, to maim.
His call went up: ‘My friends, come out!
We’ll beat them back, they’ll surely rout!’
The Woman still stood,
As all heroes should:
‘I’ve had enough, I’ll join this bout!’
The sight was truly one to see,
The two of them in company.
A left, a right, an uppercut,
A knife was lodged inside their gut
Until they stood, triumphantly.
No longer did she have to hide
When came the month of Bloomingtide.
The dwarf was great!
Her only mate!
They loved to laugh and tease and chide.
But came a day, the 17th,
The dwarf and her, The Woman thief,
Decided then,
Precisely then,
They should try something, steal, in brief.
They went now to the nearest shop
To hone their skills, find where they stopped.
A conversation, sleight of hand,
Replacement weight, an armour stand:
The Woman stole a chamber pot.
Dwarven laughter broke out then.
‘A chamber pot?! Let’s try again…
This elf looks fun,
Let’s watch him run!
That should be easy for you, shem.’
To the port, they followed him
Onto a ship at harbour’s rim.
The elf then jumped!
The friends were dumped
Onboard a ship to Llomerryn.
Justinian was quite a month, full of salt and sea.
The stowaways became shipmates upon the small galley.
The girl did well and was well-liked,
But half-men drew suspicious sleights
Onboard a ship that formed part of the Antivan navy.
When they had reached Wycombe port
And found provisions that they sought,
The dwarf took the woman aside
And showed her what he meant to hide:
The ring the cabin boy had brought!
The girl protested, as she should
About his mark and why he would
Decide on him,
He’s poor as sin!
She says she’d rather steal wood.
The dwarf, upset by her reaction,
Driven then to reckless action,
Scolded her for her remarks.
Their friendship almost fell apart.
She went back to the harbour tavern.
The tavern full, she took a walk
When, overhearing sailor’s talk:
‘Tonight’s the night!
We’ll rob him right!
I want to see that half-man gawk!’
The Woman ran back to her friend,
But she was too late in the end.
The deed was done,
The sailors had run!
The girl had reached her patience’s end.
She took up the knife that was stuck in his back
And returned to the wharf, where she started to pack.
The Woman made sure that she was unseen,
Thus, the blood from their throats in the moonlight did gleam.
The Captain returned to find heads in a stack.
The cabin boy was left alive
And awoke to find sovereigns five.
His ring and a note
(and here’s what was wrote):
‘Farewell to you, boy. May you thrive!’
The woman found Solace in drink
And almost went over the brink.
But her temperance changed
When the barman arranged
For some work washing up in the sink.
From the stories that she overheard
From sad patrons who felt they had erred,
Or who felt betrayed
By the people they’d slaved
For years for, a thought did occur.
From her own life, she understood
The value of a little good.
So now did she go,
Hesitating? Not so!
She rushed out with her cloak and her hood.
In August she began her work.
The city elf, the dwarven clerk,
A misused maid,
With quiet blade,
She helped give sour lords a smirk.
Soon the rumour quickly spread
Of a figure clothed in red
Who helped the poor
And nothing more,
Who killed wrong-doers in their bed.
Where they were based nobody knew.
Sightings were far apart and few.
In Denerim, in Orzammar,
In Minrathous, both near and far
The Crimson Hero came for you!
Many years have passed since then
The Woman’s swapped the sword for pen.
And now she feels
Before she keels
She must visit Kingsway again.
‘Before I was a vagabond,
I was a lady, reddish blonde.
My pride was high,
The men would sigh
Whenever of them, I’d seem fond.
‘But one day when came Kingsway
My sister, out of jealousy,
Plotted with
Her lover smith
To ruin me in every way.
‘She took me to the stables where
We rode away without a care
Down to the sea
Just her and me
And jumped the surf with dancer’s flair.
‘But the young smith was close behind
Knowing that he would quickly find
A chance to strike!
His girl would like
Her sister to decline.
‘The moment took me by surprise
The salt left me with blinded eyes
My sister lied,
She said I’d died,
And left me under sunless skies.
‘But too soon did she celebrate!
Although I lay inanimate,
I was alive, covered in salt,
Enough to make a herring bolt.
I thought: ‘’I live! I’m far from late!’’
‘But as I brushed hair from my face
I found a gash was now in place
And suddenly I wish I’d died
Because I was so terrified.
The wound was horrible to trace.
‘I crawled my way back off the beach,
The lighthouse-keeper, I beseeched:
‘’Oh, please, I’m hurt!
Covered in dirt!’’
But he was gone, beyond my reach.
‘Nobody came then to my aid
With ‘keeper gone, I was afraid
And broke inside
So I could hide
And on a bed of straw I laid.
‘I stole some food and bandages.
You may ask how I managed this.
Enough was strewn
Around the room,
No longer dull seemed cabbages.
‘When I felt well-enough to walk,
The treeline near the road I stalked.
Beside the road
In case that toad
Should spot me on the highway rock.
‘If my own sister, whom I’d loved,
Had hated me enough to ruff
Me up that much,
Well, not as such,
She tried to kill me, plain enough!
‘If she hated me that much, then
Who had I left to call a friend?
She was my one,
My only one.
So, who was left now at the end?
‘In my life, there was no more cheer,
Except that brought on by the beer.
Kicked out of town,
My soul was down,
As the month changed to Harvestmere.
‘Death was never far behind
Because I forsook humankind.
Their double face
(that awful race).
Trust them again? I’d rather die!
‘A boy of five I had denied,
An elf too, even though I’d cried.
A horned Sister,
That man, that cur!
Only with dwarves could I reside.
‘But then he died and once again
I was left lonely, with no friend.
But from that bar,
My life went far.
That place was where I’d start a trend.
‘A friend to others, I would be,
Albeit anonymously.
They’d never know
I’d done it, so
They’d thank their neighbours gratefully.
‘No-one should suffer by themselves,
Be they men or dwarves or elves.
I’ve made sure since
A petty Prince
Thinks twice before he hurts himself!
‘My age has since affected me.
I’m weary now, at 63.
So now I’ll go,
But now you know
Exactly what brought us to be.’
The Woman closed her diary
And passed in her sleep pleasantly.
The moral of this story is
That when you’re in worse states than this,
We’ll help you out, both them and me.

A romantic thriller spiced with enough sex
There are four main female characters and two main male characters in this novel. The story of it happened in India and it goes in an Indian way with Indian characters. This is mainly a romantic and sexy thriller primarily targeting adult segment spiced with enough sex.
After the links you do have the brief of the novel.
Brief:
Susmita was a young and beautiful woman. She lost her parents at her thirteenth year itself. From then on she was under the guardianship of her uncle’s family. But her uncle’s family were not good people and they want to get all her properties for themselves by killing Susmita. Susmita on one day overheard their talking while they were planning to kill her secretly to get her properties for themselves. She then realized how dangerous it was to her to stay in that house anymore.
There was a custom in the generations of Susmita’s family. The family head of every generation execute a will, according to which their offspring would get hold on the inherited properties only after they entered into their twenty fifth year. Not just that they should marry only after their twenty fifth year. If they do marry in before they cannot get any right over the properties. How long back it had been started in the generations of that family could not be known but Susmita’s father as well had executed a will like that.
That will indeed created problems to Susmita. She was just one month or so shy to her twenty fifth birthday when she had overheard her uncle’s family’s plan to kill her. Until she reached her twenty fifth year she cannot do anything with her properties. Her uncle was quite intelligent, dangerous and greedy man. She knew that he would very easily manage her killed and even more easily can manage it as a suicide or accident. She had realized it was no more safe to her to stay in that house. She had to go to such a place the whereabouts of which her uncle could not be known at all.
She thought so deep and then remembered Madan. Madan was her college mate. She was liking him a lot and in fact she felt quite happier to go to his home. But the problem now was when Madan very first time tried to talk with her she behaved quite arrogantly. She behaved so only with the idea that he would be attracted even more towards her by that. She thought boys would be attracted more to such girls who reject them and behave arrogantly. But it did not happen like that. After that incident Madan stopped even to look at her. By the time she decided to talk herself with him he wrote his examinations and left that college.
She did not know how she would be treated by Madan. But she daringly decided to go only to his home. It was not just because of her troubling situation she had decided to go to his home. Her heartfull love and affection towards him as well made her to take that decision.
Madan was not at his home when she entered into it. But after knowing about her, Madan’s brother and sister in law very warmly welcomed her and asked her to take rest in Madan’s room. In his room Susmita had got hold of the diary of Madan. She did go through it and came to know some very important secret of his life. When Madan was not interested in her staying in his home, she blackmailed him with that secret. She blackmailed him that she would let the secret known to others if he would not let her stay in his home for one month or so of time.
That secret was, there was a girl named Mamatha in that village who loved Madan a lot. But Madan never loved her. On one occasion on the bridge of the river they both got into an argument and that Mamatha accidentally fallen into the river and flowed away with it. Madan did not say about that to anyone else but had written about it in his diary. Susmita blackmailed him with this secret. He knew very well if it had been known outside, no one would believe that Mamatha had fallen accidentally into the river and it would be considered that Madan willfully thrown her into it. So Madan had to agree for her staying reluctantly.
But the anger in Madan did not last longer. Susmita agreed her mistakes and asked him to excuse her. Madan too started liking her. They both went into the mango tope, to that particular mango tree, under which Madan would like a lot to spend his time. Under that mango tree Susmita told him about her problem. Madan told her about Mamatha. They did talk a lot many other things there.
On the third day Madan had to leave Susmita under that mango tree all alone and came to his home on some important work. He expected that Susmita would come home before it became night but she did not come like that. When he had gone into the mango tope quite excitedly to fetch her back he found her in a very strange way.
Madan surprised and irritated when she had said to him that she saw Mamatha under that mango tree. She said to him that Mamatha jumped before her from the top of the mango tree. Madan tried to make her understand that it was all just her imagination but she was so strongly believing what she had said. Later on Susmita started seeing Mamatha in the home as well.
Sukanya was Madan’s sister-in-law’s sister. She was a practicing psychologist and she had got lot of affection on Madan. Madan helped her a lot in the past. Madan thought that Sukanya would be quite helpful and could make Susmita normal again as she was a psychologist too and asked her to come to his home and stay with Susmita. Sukanya immediately obliged and came to his home. In no time Sukanya and Susmita became very good friends.
Vamsi was another character who had grown up in the house of Madan. He was the son of a distant relative to Madan. He lost his father when he was in his mother’s womb and lost his mother when he was just three years or so old. When she was quite young and adolescent this Sukanya behaved so haughtily and arrogantly with Vamsi. She hurt his feelings many a time. Vamsi felt otherwise when he came to know that Sukanya coming to their home.
Vamsi was a very dearer boy to Madan’s brother and sister-in-law. Madan’s sister in law Jayanthi, assured Vamsi that she would see that there would no misbehavior from Sukanya towards him. In fact Sukanya was coming to that home after six years from her previous visit. In the last time visit she hurt the feelings of Vamsi so badly and Jayanthi slapped her and scolded her for her behaving like that. Sukanya’s mother became very angry and took a vow that she never would visit that home again and never let her second daughter would visit it again either and then left that house.
But this time Sukanya’s mother Mangaveni changed her mind and she sent her daughter Sukanya very happily to Madan’s home. In fact she would have sent her daughter Sukanya to Madan’s home on some pretext or other if Madan did not ask her to come. There was a special mission behind her sending Sukanya to Madan’s home. Unfortunately, her first daughter remained childless. Fortunately her son-in-law did not choose to remarry for children. But sooner or later Madan would be got married and get children as well. She did not like the vast properties of Vasant’s family would go to some outside people. If her second daughter herself marry Madan there would be no danger of their family properties go to outside people. Her two daughters and herself could enjoy them full. She advised Sukanya with a particular plan to seduce Madan and make him to marry her. Sukanya just acted that she agreed to her mother’s idea only to have an easy going to Madan’s home.
From her previous visit to now, Sukanya changed a lot. Unknowingly she started loving Vamsi. Even she knew that Vamsi had no education and having no assets and he was an orphan, she could not help but loving him. Vamsi tried to put her at distance but she did not agree to that at all. In the guesthouse in the mango tope, she tempted him and made him enjoy her thoroughly. She did that only with the idea to lessen the distance between him and her and it worked out. Vamsi started loving Sukanya full fledgedly.
Before coming here, Susmita had got a friend named Madhuri. On one occasion Madhuri tried to make Susmita a drug addict. Then Susmita came to know her real nature and cut off her friendship. She came to know that she was used on her by her cousin Narendra, her uncle’s son. Until the very last moment Madhuri and Narendra behaved very carefully that the link between them would not be known to Susmita.
After coming here Susmita could come to know that Madhuri was a relative to Madan. She further came to know about Madhuri’s troubling past. Madhuri’s father lost all his money in gambling and for his vices. He forced his wife to do prostitution with his creditors. While Madhuri was just thirteen years or so old her mother committed suicide as she could not tolerate all that sexual abuse and torture. Then Madhuri’s father forced her to do the same with a forty years aged man. That man brutally raped her and by that time she did not even get her womanhood. Madhuri cried quite painfully while the brute was raping her and the people around heard her cries and rushed into that home. They beat Madhuri’s father black and blue and in that attack he was dead. They beat the person in the same way who raped Madhuri brutally and handed him over to the police. On coming to know about this Susmita worried very much and felt lot of pity towards Madhuri. She decided to behave with Madhuri friendly when she would meet her again.
Susmita started seeing Mamatha in the home and on one occasion she said that Mamatha entered into her body. Sukanya was trying but could not make her normal. Madan was becoming more and more distressed. The incidents he witnessed made him believe strongly that Mamatha entered into the body of Susmita. Sukanya hypnotized Susmita and gave suggestions to her that there was no devil in her body. But that too did not help at all. When he became confirmed that Sukanya could not be helpful in making Susmita normal, he agreed to the idea of Vamsi to take an exorcist to home to expel the devil from Susmita’s body. When that exorcist’s technique as well failed, Madan became almost mad.
Then Nagaraju, the lover of Mamatha, told Madan an idea. He said that Mamatha wishing physical union with Madan so badly and if he would give it to her, she would agree to a compromise to leave the body of Susmita all the other times except when she wanted to have sex with Madan. As he could not find any other way to get Mamatha expel from Susmita’s body, Madan decided to try this. He made an agreement with Mamatha (while she was active in the body of Susmita) to give sexual enjoyment to her and for that Mamatha should leave Susmita’s body all the other times except when she wanted sex with him. Mamatha agreed to that.
Susmita entered into her twenty fifth year and celebrated it with pomp in Madan’s home. As per the terms he made with her, Madan made sex with Mamatha on that night. But Mamatha just cheated him acting as if she agreed to his terms. All naked she went downstairs and made a scene before all the other people.
With that happening Madan became completely mad. He thought of only one way to get rid of Mamatha from Susmita’s body then. He went to Mamatha’s parents’ home and apologized to them for his mistakes and requested Mamatha’s mother to ask her daughter to leave Susmita’s body. Then Mamatha’s mother advised him to marry Susmita saying that would solve all the problems.
Madan said the same to his brother and sister in law and they decided to fix a date for his marriage. They have decided to perform Vamsi and Sukanya’s marriage as well with their marriage since Sukanya became pregnant because of her physical union with Vamsi. Once it has been decided like this Susmita phoned to Narendra and Madhuri and conveyed this news to them.
Narendra put all his hopes on Madhuri to know about Susmitha’s whereabouts. After he heard from Susmita herself so, he thought Madhuri did not tell him about Susmita’s whereabouts despite knowing about it. He had got lot of angry on her and gang raped her along with his two friends in the house he had given to her. When Madhuri came to Susmita, she told her about this incident. Susmita and Sukanya both were aghast on hearing that and Susmita took an owe to see that those who gang raped Madhuri to be punished rigorously for the crime they committed.
After the marriage, Susmita took Madan to Mamatha’s home. There Madan saw Mamatha and astonished. Then Mamatha told him that she was not dead as he was thinking. She told him what happened after she had fallen into the river.
Nagaraju followed Mamatha and Madan secretly and he had seen Mamatha fallen into the river. He jumped into the river and saved her. While she was in such a weak and immobile condition, he raped her. Mamatha felt very bad but she could not do anything.
Mamatha felt very much anger and all her anger directed only to Madan. She did not feel much for his rejecting her love so but she felt bad as he did not give her any consideration at all. He did not even tell anyone that she had fallen into river so. She wanted to make Madan to feel bad atleast for a few days if not longer. She asked Nagaraju’s help to that and he agreed. She was with a plan to do that. She knew that Madan loved that mango tree in the mango tope a lot and she started observing him hidden behind that mango tree.
After hearing what Madan and Susmita talked between themselves she got new idea and changed her plan. She blackmailed Susmita saying that she would let her whereabouts known to her unclie’s family and made her agree to her plan. According to that, Susmita should behave and act as Mamatha would direct her. If she do as Mamatha said, Mamatha would leave her completely after her marriage with Madan and never enter into Madan and Susmita’s life. Susmita did not like making Madan feel bad but as there was no other way she agreed to that. Later on Susmita explained the same to Madan’s sister in law Jayanthi, to his brother Vasant, Vamsi and made them agree to co-operate with her in fulfilling Mamatha’s desire. Susmtia explained the same to Sukanya too and Sukanya as well agreed to co-operate with Susumtia for making out Mamatha’s plan. All of them had seen some justification in Mamatha’s desire.
Mamatha told Susmita about her past habits and the past incidents those took place between her and Madan. She explained clearly to Susmita how to act with Madan. Susmita just did like that and when Susmita told about the incidents happened between Mamatha and Madan which there was no chance at all that she could be known, Madan started believing Mamatha entered into Susmita’s body. Following the directions of Mamatha, Susmita quite successfully made Madan believed that Mamatha was dead and she entered into Susmita’s body. Mamatha felt satisfied as she could make Madan feel quite bad and worrisome in those few days.
Even after hearing that Madan did not get any angry either on Mamatha or Susmita. He had seen justification in Mamatha’s anger. He apologized to her for his mistakes. Mamatha excused him and wished Susmita and Madan a happy married life.
This is the story of my novel ’Oh.’ I did write this novel as it came to my mind. I did not try to write it particularly stylish. I like to read such novels which would be understood easily and without particular effort on my part. So I try to make my novel simple and easily understandable to one and all.
I have taken rather more freedom when it comes to describe romantic incidents in my novel. Some of my positive characters in the novel as well did immoral and unethical things. Madan’s brother Vasant tried to have children through his friend’s wife. Sukanya enticed and lured Vamsi to have sex with her before marriage itself to make him behave more friendly and freely with her. According to his agreement, Madan made sex with Mamatha (Susmita) before marriage. My intention was not to support immoral and unethical sexual behavior but doing sexual mistakes is not uncommon in human beings. Comparing with so many grievous wrongs that human beings are committing, unethical and immoral behavior in sex is excusable.

Oh! (Pretty Spicy Stuff)

My intention was not to support immoral and unethical sexual behavior but doing sexual mistakes is not uncommon in human beings. Comparing with so many grievous wrongs that human beings are committing, unethical and immoral behavior in sex is excusable.

Know the slight difference between Love and Sex
Why fiction is important in our lives? When really the fiction took its birth? It is really difficult to say when the first imaginary story was told. But it has been proved that imagination has the ability to soothe the minds, give happiness to the hearts and calculating power to the mind. When you are bored, irritated and distressed a good fictional story sure helps you.
Try this.

This is the story of my novel ‘Nail Polish.’ I did write this novel as it came to my mind.

This is the story of my novel ‘Nail Polish.’ I did write this novel as it came to my mind.
