53. 10/03/2024 night, Happy Bday Shu Rongbo and Wu Yihan!! Hehe the way Qian Anqi knocks their heads together and insisted to sing them happy birthday is so cute. Wu Yihan said 'Happy Birthday' before their customary Guiding Light hug. And pls someone translate (or at least transcribed) the closing speech for me, there's a lot of laughing involved, I'm curious. Also, have this bonus stage door clip.

Some funfacts. Since last year they play in the same 4 musicals including Link Click and out of those 4 plays they shared 2 roles. Shu Rongbo played a total of 9 roles while Wu Yihan played 7. (Yes, I am at that level of hyperfixation)

Speaking of, she brings out the bat and forces their arms to form the heart. Then there's Bai Zhuoming being cute and the little shimmy dance he does.

67. 09/03/2024 night, bonus to the one above. Du Guangyi last minute adlib was unexpected but very enjoyable. Also, I love the contrast between his and Bai Zhuoming's tutting.

📖 My favorite new (to me) fic of the year ehhhhh I can’t remember if I first read Dirty Laundry this year (and the male version!). I don’t have much use for most Swaps, much less Swapfell, but this was absolutely delightful 🖤

If not, then I really really enjoyed Ghosts Above, which is Farm x Horror (not the bara version) and also has a skipped-ahead NSFW companion piece, just sayin’

📝 Favorite thing I’ve written in 2024? Uhhhhh fuck what did I do besides Songfell let’s see—it’s all been a bit of a blur because I spent the first half of the year working my ass off in order to get us successfully moved into my parents’ house, and the second half babying my arm after the resulting tendonitis, using dictation and the one-handed keyboard Dale got me while I waited to heal up a bit.

I like that I have been able to update at all. Seriously. I remain extremely grateful for everyone and looking forward to finishing Songfell and its gay AU. Gayu?

Random process notes:

Well, I have been kidding for *counts* 16 years now?? I guess I kind of know what I’m doing when I have a good idea of what a vid is like inside my head. Which is why most of these vids took less than a week to make and none of them were on my actual to-make list that I had written down at the beginning of the year. Flighty ADHD/anxiety brain just latching onto the feelings of the moment and zooming across the timeline until I can call it done. I think I started two non-witcher vids during the year before Festivids but the witcher hyperfixation remains too strong. Everything else falling to the WIP piles. I tried to finish my Moonhaven vid but couldn’t focus. Tried to finish my Green Knight and Blade vids but no, my brain was more interested in writing +70k of fic this year, aha.

Overall thoughts:

HEY I made Festivid stuff! I can vid-non Witcher things! I was really worried there that my brain was just forever stuck on Witcher but! I did it.

Anyway. I really love vidding The Witcher Netflix and keep building up my clip gallery for easy reference for when I can settle in for the next witcher vid. I keep fuck up my exports though because I’m doing everything too quickly and not paying enough attention. So there’s some export-related things and a few minor clips I would have changed if I weren’t caught up in a in a rush. But overall I’m very, very happy with my crop of vids this year.

Favorite Vid:

Most of the time I have upwards of 8-16 vids a year and it’s easier to pick a favorite. When I do so few… they’re all my favorite. For different reasons.

For my Yennefer vid it’s my favorite editing.

For Mr. Brightside it’s my favorite song choice and tone (this is a cover in the style of The B-52s) for Jaskier.

My Fringilla vid — it’s my favorite thing that came together from all of the season footage of her character from seasons 1 and 2 and the song just makes me so happy that it tied everything together for her.

For the Vilgefortz/Geralt vid, oh it’s my favorite because it’s my pure id, heh, and my favorite build/pacing of all my vids.

My festivids are my favorite because I have been wanting to make things them for awhile now but hadn’t had the focus. And then I did!

Hardest to make:

The only thing that was hard was me exporting shitty stuff and not realizing it until days or weeks after I uploaded and crossposted. Anyway. I took my time with my festivid exports so those should look pretty good. Most successful:

They are all successful in my heart. I love them.

My best vid:

Probably my Fringilla or Vilgefortz/Geralt vid. I’m so happy how they turned out.

Most fun vid:

Mr. Brightside. I love playing with Jaskier’s humor with the song choice and the transitions.

Things I learned in 2023:

Mmm, I am still worked up about my fic WIPs and life anxieties that I wasn’t able to do more vidding things that I wanted. As for the projects themselves, I learned that it’s very handy to have a standing clip gallery all labelled and ready for when I want to make my next Witcher Netflix vid.

In 2024:

I always want to be ambitious in the new year but always end up wandering in completely unexpected directions. In any case I would love to finish my Moonhaven vid and get my brain in order to find the last of the Black Sails source I need for a vid idea that has been eating my brain for 4 months now. I also have my Philippa Eilhart Witcher vid I want to make as well as a season 3 Witcher Netflix vid too that’s taking up space in my brain.

I have decided to re-watch Peaky Blinders then came across your work. And I love how you build the relationship or the dynamic between Tommy and Raymond, also the angst (or ending?) in chapter 11 successfully made my jaw drop, which was unexpected for me.

I want to pull Ray into a hug and patt him gently on the back, also praying for his mental health.

Hope that you're doing well, maybe your job and life kept you busy a lot but I like to thank you for the time to write this amazing fic. I am deeply in love with the story, also my current hyperfixations along with the show.✨🌻

work I’m most proud of and why: my LWL compliant series after all this time (you and i), because it spans so much time and energy. There’s just so much to it and I really challenged myself with the monster of a series it’s become to make everything make sense. It’s almost 100,000 published words, which is ridiculous because I legitimately thought that would be like CMALC but nope. It spiraled and I have like twenty drafts right now just in that folder so god help me. I also had to do a lot of work to make sure that the kids are all realistic and it’s just a labor of love for me.

share or describe a favorite review you received: y’all are all too sweet to me but I really loved getting the comments on i’m not a princess that told me they related so much to Casey’s experience because I really did try to get into that mindset as someone who doesn’t date much and is a Casey. It made me feel really happy to not only hear all of the stories of people who got out, but that they felt I captured their experience well when that was all I wanted!!

a time when writing was really, really hard: honestly the last three months of this year my brain has refused to actually write. Which is something I’m doing my best to break but god is it frustrating.

a scene or character you wrote which surprised you: tbh the Peter fic, cause if you only fucked him (i wouldn’t even care). That entire thing came out of absolutely nowhere but I was listening to the song that inspired it and it just hit me. I think I wrote all of it in a week. I don’t even like Peter but he decided to go, “yknow, this is how I feel about Casey and Derek,” and I just decided that was going to be a fic. I wouldn’t say it redeems him but it was very fun to try and get into his mindset and completely unexpected!

a favorite excerpt of your writing: am I allowed to put the time I titled the Luca coming out fic “found out about you” inspired by the hit Taylor Swift song, Should’ve Said No, because I thought it was really funny? No? Yeah, I thought so, here’s an excerpt from it was the night things changed:

“When everything in his brain is too loud, Derek writes. The loudest voice in his head is normally Casey's, so the songs are about her.”

how did you grow as a writer in the last year?: learned how to actually commit to long fics. (minus civil blood, I know, I apologize. Accepting ancient Roman baby girl names.) I also learned how to harness my ability to create universes where I can primarily write one shots but they can also expand and all be connected, which is really cool! I love getting to play around with characters in longer formats.

who was your greatest positive influence this year as a writer (beta, friend, cheerleader, etc): the Dasey discord. Yall see fics six months before they get published and still hype me up which is literally the sweetest.

anything from your real life show up in your writing this year: a LOT of Luca and Sky’s mental health issues come from mine in one form or another. Sky’s shitty boyfriend was also inspired by a guy I dated once, but besides that, I think I wrote for escapism because I had a lot of health struggles this year.

new wisdom to share with writers: join fandom communities. Honestly. It reminds you why you love writing and provides so many great opportunities to learn from writers you admire and become friends! Discord servers, Tumblr group chats, whatever, just join them. Don’t be afraid to be annoying because you’re not, you’re getting necessary socialization to write fics! It helps you from getting burned out and you make friends. Truly no downsides.

goals for 2025: finishing civil blood. (Finally.) I also want to publish a couple of other long fics with an epistolary style about all of the McTuri’s mental health starting after Casey files for divorce where it’s just conversations between the family and their therapist! Ideally these would all be broken up into their own fics and I’ll create a sub series. I’ve got the first chapter of Luca’s down and the first few things of Casey’s done but I’m hoping to finish that. Also want to publish my Naturals au for Dasey because I love teens solving crime through vibing and making out but I have been stuck on that one for months.
