I know on the outside from a civvie perspective, it's all "doctors work with nurses work with doctors" but I can tell you straight the fuck away right now I can name you like 3 nurses who can point out which instrument is called a "double action rongeur" and maybe 1 who can tell you what it's used for. I can't think of any who could tell you what order it should appear in a discectomy, if it does at all.
(I'm just saying nobody, not even the original podcast, thought to interview the techs who worked with this man. I can tell you right now when we have had bad technical surgeons, it is every tech shit talking them and writing them up for shit. If a nurse is doing it, it's bc you have a tech who doesn't know where the safety report hyperlink lives)
#the asshole liveblogs#dr. death#also sorry but which surgeon do you know who calls a scalpel a scalpel I mean pls#if they're not making up a funny name for it they're naming the blade itself#or else just holding out their hand like I'm supposed to read their mind#i mean i do but not because they told me to#also where is anesthesia in all of this#a surgery requires just 4 people in 4 roles and youre cutting out 2 of them :( why

When Is The Best Time To Get A Hair Transplant Age-Wise?
Individuals of all ages lead hectic lives in the modern era. As a result, one of the most prevalent issues they all experience is hair loss, which occurs at an early age. Males get hair loss concerns in their early twenties, while women experience hair thinning following menopause. They begin to lose self-esteem and appear older than their age as a result of hair loss. Hair loss can be caused by a variety of factors, including lifestyle, food, medical problems, drugs, and trauma. There is no such thing called the best age to get a hair transplant. Hair transplantation is not a solution for those people who have Alopecia areata, diabetes, or high blood pressure.
Why do people go for hair transplants?
Hormone imbalance causes the female pattern, while age variables play a significant role. Female-pattern baldness, as opposed to male-pattern baldness, entails all-over thinning with a normal hairline. Men’s and women’s hair thinning and loss are considerably different, with men having a receding hairline or an M-shaped pattern of loss that is total baldness, but women’s hair loss is subtle and slow, beginning at the top of the head rather than at the hairline.
Understanding Hair Transplantation
Hair transplant treatments are almost 200 years old and have been improved with cutting-edge technology. Before the hair transplant, the specialists analyze the donor’s hair quality, hair loss pattern, and the size of the balding area. The doctors follow two distinct procedures. In both of these operations, the surgeon pulls a strip of healthy hair from the scalp and cuts it into sections that are implanted in the balding areas.
The FUE treatment involves the surgeon extracting hair follicles from the donor area and precisely implanting them into the bald area’s holes. In a single session, the surgeon can implant many strands of hair. During a few days after surgery, the severed scalp is wrapped with gauze or bandages.
The FUT process involves the surgeon cutting a strip of incision several inches long and transplanting the follicular unit. The incisions are then stitched. Hair transplant surgery at Cliniq takes between 4 and 8 hours. Hair is removed before surgery to prepare the scalp for operation. If the patient is having a considerable amount of hair transplanted, he must return the following day for a few hours.
To numb the patient’s scalp, anesthetic is administered only to the scalp. During the surgery, most patients will be awake. Patients must follow the doctor’s instructions after therapy. Patients should avoid going out in the sun for about a week because the sun’s rays can cause skin pigmentation changes, decolorization, and scar darkening. They initially experience scalp tightness and irritation, although this is just transitory. It is extremely usual for newly implanted hair to come out after 2 or 3 months of surgery. Natural hair growth takes about 4 months, and total recovery takes about 12 months. It entirely depends on the individual.
Your surgeon will examine hair loss pattern, size of the balding section, quality of hair in the donor location, and other factors in addition to age. The quantity and quality of hair in the donor area become increasingly important as we age. As previously said, strong hair follicles in the donor area are critical for a successful hair transplant procedure. Best hair transplants typically require between 7,000 and 8,000 grafts
When is the best time to get a hair transplant age-wise?
Hair transplant surgery is recommended for people aged 25 which is also the minimum age for a hair transplant to 75. The early twenties are not recommended since the patient loses hair even after the transplant, which looks unnatural because it leaves behind the transplanted strips. As a result, the patient must retry the transplant, and there is a significant risk that the donor will not maintain a healthy development pattern over time. The preliminary transplant can increase hair density, but it requires more therapy over time. The severity or pattern of a patient’s hair loss may not be fully determined until they are in their twenties. As a result, the best age for a hair transplant is around 40 or older. But, age is not the only determining factor your surgeon will evaluate hair loss pattern, size of the balding section, quality of hair in the donor location, and so on.
Every year, around 6,50,000 people opt for hair transplants. According to the most recent figures, 85.7% of males have hair transplants. With today’s cutting-edge technology, hair transplantation is safe, with quick recovery and few side effects. Hair transplantation is a permanent and best treatment for hair thinning.

just a little update on my medical journey since I've posted about it here before and I need somewhere to jot it all down. maybe don't read if this sorta stuff stresses you out x
I had a meeting with a new surgeon today who was super lovely to me and explained everything so clearly. he also validated my pain and how shit the situation is (especially that I lost my job) which felt really nice coming from a health professional! the bad news is that the plan I had in my head isn't going to work: I thought I needed two surgeries, the first one being less serious than the second & I thought that was going to be happening on March 10th... but alas. Nothing ever goes to plan! he told me there's actually not much point getting the first surgery without getting the second immediately after (which I cannot afford!) he also said that I can just get the second one and not need the first if I wanted to, as that would essentially solve the problem enough, and there's only a 3% chance I would then need the first surgery after the fact.
so anyway, he was basically recommending that I just do the second surgery only (a pao). one surgery rather than two does sound nice, it's just so expensive and this one requires a 6 day hospital stay + 2 months on crutches. about 9 - 12 months of recovery before I'm really able to be active again. it's intimidating to think about... I'd only just wrapped my head around the less intense one.
and then, even after all of that, my left hip has the same amount of dysplasia as the right, so there's a high chance it could happen again on the other side. what it boils down to, basically, is that I can no longer have the career I currently have. which feels weird because as much as I mumbled about my job, it's what I went to school for and I have worked my way up for 6 years to a great role and really good pay. It's all I've ever known in terms of like, professional goals & direction. so to realise that it's not really going to be a realistic job for me for the next year and, honestly, forever, is a lot of big feelings to contend with! for context: I work in the art dept. on TV shows and it involves a lot of physical work.
I'm also genuinely fucking terrified of the surgery itself. he told me he'll be cutting my hip bone is 4 places and moving it, then screwing it into its new position. it's also an 8 - 10 cm incision (feeling longing for keyhole lol). walking, sitting, showering etc is really difficult afterwards. two months is a long time to be on crutches. god knows how long it takes before I can drive again... bleh, I'm overthinking.
anyway, I know this is nothing compared to what some people are dealing with but it's been really overwhelming and there's so many complicated feelings about *this* being the solution to the months & months & months of chronic pain I've been in. sorry to be so gloomy but this really has just crashed into my life and fucked everything up... very eye-opening about how all-encompassing injuries are and how they seep into every aspect of your life.
on a positive note, the surgeon really was so lovely and put me at ease and answered all of my questions. I didn't feel rushed or dismissed like the last surgeon which was such a relief.
desperately wishing I had medical insurance that's for sure!!
#hip dysplasia#sorry to constantly use this klaine blog as a venting zone about my medical woes#it's just nice to get it out into the void sometimes you know

Conversations...
We are in deep, deep snow, almost mid-thigh deep for some of the youngest. They are sledding and sliding down a huge snow bank. The youngest starts whimpering as she walks towards me, “The snow is hurting my leg”, she says. I kneel down in the snow next to her and together we scrape aside some snow so that we have a flattish surface to sit on, without completely sinking into the snow. We make ourselves comfortable and she pulls off her boot. I see that it is filled with snow. We empty it out, I help her pull off her sock, squeeze it dry and help her pull it back on. Then we get her boot on. She gets up with a bounce and is back on her feet, singing out a thank you. Me…not so much. I make some ineffective and hopeless maneuvers with my body, trying to get to my feet. I notice the 3 year old is standing and watching me curiously. Her furrowed brow tells me she is either concerned or confused. She comes a couple of steps closer, bends a bit and asks, “You don’t know how to stand up, Ms. Deepa?” I am hot and flustered and more than a little embarrassed and I say, “Of course I know how to stand up but I am finding it challenging to do that right now.” “So are you strated right now?” she asks. “YES! YES! I AM FRUSTRATED RIGHT NOW!” I say a little testily. She semi-squats in front of me, “I see you are stuck, Ms. Deepa. I’m here to help you okay? But you have to work on it yourself first, okay?.” I look up at her, a little taken aback, as the words sound oddly familiar. But she is deadly earnest. “I’ll help you with my words, okay?” Then she gives me a set of directions that sound like TWISTER moves. “You put one hand behind you, okay? Then you push your body up, uh-huh like that …”– she affirms as I try to follow her directions. “Okay, almost done Ms Deepa…oh no, that’s okay...” she commiserates as I collapse back down. “One more time okay?” And this time, she offers me her tiny hand to help pull my Amazonian (in comparison to her) self. Somehow, and I think because of her hand, I manage to get to my feet. “Yaaayy…you did it Ms Deepa,” she smiles clapping her mittened hands. “Your brain just learned something new.” I was so overcome…I could barely whisper out a thank you. It’s a good thing tears don’t freeze on your face.

I am observing two senior students completing their work, making a booklet on the parts of a volcano. They are talking about their struggles with the stapler. “This is a very challenging stapler,” says the younger one who is almost 6. “Yes, ' confirms the older one. "I tried 3 times and each time it staples the book backside front.” “You mean upside down?” asks his work partner. “No, the back is in the front,” demonstrates the 6 1/2 year old, removing the staples yet again. A moment of silence. I contemplate the staples strewn on the rug and when a pair of knees gets really close, I put out to the universe in a conversational tone, “Perhaps staples are best in a corner of the rug so no one steps on them. That could be quite painful.” Instantly the bait is taken as the younger one exclaims, “Ooohhh, I am going to move the staples to the corner of the rug. I don’t want to step on any staples. That would hurt super bad. “ The older one asks suddenly, “Ms. Deepa, do you remember long ago when xxx stapled his finger?” I nodded and said with a slight shudder, “Oh yes, I will never forget that.” More stapling and assembling goes on while the three of us are no doubt recalling a very dramatic moment almost 2 years ago when a child decided to figure out if he could attach a piece of paper to his finger so he could make a flag on his finger. “I wonder where xxx is now,” I muse about that novel experimenter. “I have not seen him for so long.” Says the older one, “Well I just saw him. He came to my house some days ago. We played for a long time. I shared my toys and puzzles with him.” “Oh, how nice! How is he? Which school does he go to now, do you know?” I ask. The gracious host tips his head a little to the side as he ponders my question for a moment and then, “Actually, Ms Deepa, I don’t think he is going to any school. I think he is working from home.”
___________________________
I open the door for the three year old one morning. “Good morning,” I say. “How are you on this cold day?” “Madeline can’t be in school today, Ms Deepa,” she states flatly. Her distress is clearly evident in her screwed up eyes and the frown over her mask. “Oh, my…” I say, playing for time while my mind races through the names of all her immediate relatives. I come up blank. I look mutely at her 5 year old brother just behind her. He just shrugs his shoulders and shakes his head. “Why can’t Madeline be at school today?” I ask. “She has to go to the doctor. She’s sick,” the 3 year old replies. “Oh, what part of her body is sick?” She points to her belly. “Stomach ache?” I ask. “No – appendix.” I do a double take. “Oh my…that sounds painful. What does that mean?” “Appendix is when it hurts and hurts and the doctor and the nurse has to do a surgery right here,” she says dramatically clutching her belly. “I see…so where is she now?” I ask. “She is in her bed, she’s in her room… the room is in her house.” I am still trying to figure out who this appendix stricken Madeline is and so I probe almost nonchalantly, “And where is her house?” “In the Madeline book.” ......GOT IT!

It's a cloudy winter day and the snow is falling steadily. It's lunchtime in the Peacekeeper Sunflower Classroom. To the gentle and soft strains of a piano instrumental, the children are singing their "Thank you Song" before they begin their lunch. There is of course, always, always the one voice that rises above all others and they belt out the words as the others murmur them in their role of supporting vocals. Today the main vocalist is a 4 1/2 year old :
We thank you, we do
We thank you we do
We thank you for your kindness
We thank you we do.
Thank you for the food WE MEET
Thank you for the friends WE EAT
Help us all to not forget quietness, kindness and respect
Thank you thank you this we say
Thank you for this lovely day!
Then this person nods their head slightly at what they see as their adoring public and graciously says "Thank you. BONE appetit. Now you may eat." I decided I would correct the words on another day....best let them bask in their glory today!!
____________________________________________
It’s lunchtime on another day in the Peacekeeper Sunflower classroom, the lights have been turned off; the room is lit by only the bright sunlight streaming through the large windows; there’s soft music playing – today it is traditional Japanese instrumental music. The first few minutes have been filled with the sounds of opening lunch boxes, surveying what is in them and then as the children start eating, slowly but surely, conversations begin. I am working at the kitchen counter, writing down some observations and behind me, I hear a conversation between a 4 year old sitting (as required, about 6ft away) across from a garrulous 3 year old. “What’s that?” asks the 3 year old. The older child says, “It’s a cut-up egg.” “I don’t like cut-up eggs,” says the 3 year old. “You like them when they are not cut up?” asks the 4 year old. “I like them when they are dead so they can’t move,“ clarifies the younger one. “All eggs are dead, they are non-living,” comes the defining response. A moment’s silence then the older one says in an almost conversational tone, “Do you know some people eat frogs?” “What?!” exclaims the 3 year old. “FROGS? How can you even catch them?” “You have to wait till they are not moving and you can only eat them if they are bull-frogs. My mom says it tastes just like chicken.” The 3 year old has stood up in her astonishment, and is chewing on her sweet pepper, almost unaware of what she is doing. “What about moving penguins?” she asks. The 4 year old expert on nutrition doesn’t miss a beat, “You can’t eat moving penguins. And if you have to wait for them to stop moving, you can freeze.” The 3 year old contemplates this answer and concludes, “I like mangoes.”
_______________________________________________
I am observing a student working on a matching work – where they match pictures of the whole fruit to pictures of the fruit cut-up. The 4 1/2-year old finishes the work and is returning the cards to the basket. They look up at me and state, “Ms Deepa, I cannot eat strawberries.” “Why not?” I ask. “I have a histamine for them.” “What does that mean?” I ask. “That means,” they explain, articulating each word clearly for an obviously ignorant adult, “That means if I have strawberries, I have to go to the Doctor’s office, they have to give me a poke, they have to put a band aid on it and then I get a Popsicle.” “Oh,” I say, “so that’s not a problem, then. It can't be so bad. You are getting a Popsicle at the end, right?” There is a pause as they search for the right words to answer and then they say, “It’s not the most efficient way to get a Popsicle, Ms Deepa.”

Just submitted my response to the Trans Inquiry 2 (England and Wales)
You can see the call for evidence from the W&EC here on Twitter, and submit your evidence here. It requires a Word, ODT or RTF file to be uploaded. You can write as much or as little as you like.
The deadline is tomorrow, Friday 27th November 2020.
My response is below the cut, because it’s over 3,000 words long...! But please, be aware that you can write 20 words if you need to. You can just say “I’m trans and the reforms still don’t allow me to have a gender recognition certificate. They don’t go far enough, because the process is unnecessarily medicalised and still doesn’t accommodate nonbinary people.”
~
ABOUT ME
I am 34 years old. I live in Powys, Wales. I am nonbinary - specifically, I feel like I have no gender at all. My pronouns are singular they (they/them/their/theirs/themself, plural verbs). I learned what nonbinary was when I was 24, and immediately came out and began my transition. I have been attending the NHS gender identity clinic (GIC) in London since April 2012, about 8.5 years. Throughout that time I have presented as openly nonbinary, and have had surgeries and hormone treatments from the NHS to aid in an androgynous presentation. I have all the records and paperwork that I would need to receive a gender recognition certificate (GRC), if one were available to nonbinary people. I am openly nonbinary with everyone I see and interact with on a regular basis (social workers, support workers, landlords, friends and family, etc).
~
SUMMARY
The Government’s proposed reforms are positive but only a fraction of the changes needed to ensure trans people have equal rights and sufficient trans-specific medical care.
In particular, three additional gender clinics in the NHS are horrifically insufficient, especially for children and adolescents facing the body-horror and permanence of the wrong puberty, resulting in preventable major surgeries. Requirements for obtaining a gender recognition certificate remain excessive, demoralising and unnecessary. The financial cost currently involved is much greater than the £140 fee, making a fee reduction seem like lip service.
The gender recognition process remains needlessly and discriminatorially medicalised, unacceptably has higher standards for gender recognition than the NHS has for medical transition, and allows for stalling and abuse by spouses because UK marriage laws are needlessly gendered. It also does not account for Gillick competence in the case of legal gender recognition for children.
There is a complete lack of provision for nonbinary people, which is unacceptable, especially now that the courts have found that nonbinary people are protected under the transition characteristic of the Equality Act 2010. This means that nonbinary people are unable to marry or parent children while being authentic in their genders, and are unable to receive a correct pension.
These barriers presented to trans people mean that still only a minority of trans people will access gender recognition certificates, which results in unnecessary and preventable problems for trans people, but also for the systems that have to accommodate them in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.
~
RESPONSES TO PROMPTS
The Government’s response to the GRA consultation:
Will the Government’s proposed changes meet its aim of making the process “kinder and more straight forward”?
Yes, but only marginally.
Three new GICs: Each month the NHS makes several months’ worth of referrals to GICs. Nowhere in the UK is it possible to access a GIC within the 18-week NHS-set timeline; the average wait is 18 months, which is horrific for transgender adults, and devastating and traumatic for transgender adolescents who are forced to go through the body-horror of the wrong puberty while waiting for two appointments to be prescribed puberty blockers. [1] It follows that in order to bring this waiting list down to lawful amount of time we need to increase the number of NHS GICs not by 40% but by 400%.
Fee reduction to “nominal amount”: I have still seen no reason to delay making this process a demedicalised case of submitting a form declaring a change of legal gender, much like changing one’s name by deed poll. We are not charged to update our details with HMRC, so we need not be charged for updating our details at a General Register Office.
Placing the procedure online: This is something that should have been done decades ago, but better late than never. It is also an attempt to repair the Titanic with superglue as it sinks. The system is difficult to access for all trans people, but not because of the method of application. The problem is that we are required to apply to the gender recognition panel at all.
Should a fee for obtaining a Gender Recognition Certificate be removed or retained?
It should be removed. It is arbitrary, and other administrative changes of a similar nature and risk level do not have fees associated.
Are there other financial burdens on applicants that could be removed or retained?
The requirement to provide medical evidence for change of gender is unnecessary and costs money. For example, living in rural West Wales means that for the 8 years I’ve been attending the London GIC I have been paying for accommodation in London, because it is not physically possible to travel to London by public transport and back in one day when attending a GIC appointment. Each trip costs me at least £80 or so out of pocket, because I have to find accommodation close to the GIC for me and a PA (I am disabled and receive direct payments). I am entitled to have my travel costs refunded by the NHS but others are not, so attending GIC appointments will cost them money even if they don’t have to stay overnight.
At the moment the wait of in some cases several years for a first appointment followed by 1.5 years waiting for the second appointment means patients being referred today will be waiting 4-5 years for their first hormone prescription or surgery referral, so a significant number of people who would like a GRC have to pay for private treatment to get the proof they need within a reasonable timeframe.
Should the requirement for a diagnosis of gender dysphoria be removed?
Yes. Legal gender need not be a medical issue. As when changing one’s name, legal gender need only be a case of signing a document with witnesses. The two reasons I’ve heard cited against demedicalising the gender recognition process are (1) fraud prevention and (2) protection of vulnerable women in single-sex spaces.
(1) We already have laws against fraud, and it is very easy and cheap to legally change one’s name in the UK. When you consider how “identifying” something like a gender is when compared to other identity metrics such as photographs, dates of birth, names, etc. (i.e. not very), it seems absurd that gender is so difficult to change. Existing fraud laws would allow for prosecution as easily if changing one’s legal gender were a matter of a statutory declaration only.
(2) We already have laws against abuse of women, women’s spaces are already protected even taking into account the Equality Act 2010, and in general the women responsible for protecting those women-only spaces currently accommodate and welcome trans women and have done for a long time. [2] Birth certificates are not required for accessing women-only spaces such as shelters, toilets and changing rooms. Other ID that might be required in a less free version of our current society, such as driver’s licences or passports, do not require a gender recognition certificate to have the gender marker changed, so demedicalising the gender recognition process has no effect on provision of necessary gender-exclusive services.
Anyone wishing to use an alternative gender presentation for fraudulent or abusive purposes does not have a more difficult time in the crimes that they are attempting to commit thanks to the Gender Recognition Act. The fact that currently only 1 in 10 transgender people have a GRC suggests that the system can currently accommodate people whose genders don’t match their birth certificates or tax records, so presumably making it much easier for people to make all of their IDs match will make no difference to fraud and abuse incidence, and may make it easier by removing discrepancies.
I would also argue that the current “gender dysphoria diagnosis —> correct ID” situation is back-to-front. Wanting ID that reflects a gender that is different from the one you were assigned at birth is evidence of gender dysphoria, and so applying for a birth certificate that shows a different gender to the one you were assigned at birth should be considered evidence of gender dysphoria for a diagnosis. It doesn’t need to go through a doctor; wanting to change the ID should be enough on its own.
Should there be changes to the requirement for individuals to have lived in their acquired gender for at least two years?
Yes. Being transgender isn’t something that comes on suddenly later in life. It is a neurodevelopmental issue, considered by some medical professionals to begin in the womb. Having to wait two more years to have that gender recognised in law seems arbitrary and unnecessary.
Most transgender people have known that their gender was different to the one they were assigned at birth for years before they begin their transition. I would say that making it very difficult to change one’s legal gender is, among other factors, something that contributes to this unfortunate tendency.
I understand that living in a new gender role for two years is considered proof of commitment to that gender role by the state. Proof of this nature is not required for other administrative matters such as change of name or title. Let’s imagine the same situation for something that might be considered harder to change because it is by its nature decided by biology: date of birth. If one’s date of birth had been entered incorrectly on a birth certificate and the individual or their parents noticed some years later, the birth certificate could be corrected with, at most, medical records showing that the baby was born on a different day. Likewise, to change a gender marker on a birth certificate should require, at most, medical records showing that the individual’s gender was assigned incorrectly at birth. This would be a copy of a letter from a doctor diagnosing gender dysphoria, which requires only 6 months of a specific type of discomfort. The legal system therefore is four times more strict about changing legal gender than the NHS is about referring for permanent gender-affirming surgery or prescribing hormones that cause permanent physical change. This is unnecessarily stringent. It could be considered discriminatory under the Equality Act 2010: trans people are less able to change incorrect records relating to their gender, in accordance with GDPR, because of the additional barriers.
If the gender recognition process was easy and cheap, and for some reason a person changed their gender marker on a whim and then wanted to change it back, it would be very easy for them to do so - but as you learned in the first Trans Inquiry some years ago, countries such as Ireland, where it is easy and cheap to change your legal gender, have not seen this happen. In general, we know that when it is easy and cheap to change your one’s legal gender, people tend to do it once and then never again.
What is your view of the statutory declaration and should any changes have been made to it?
I have no problem with the statutory declaration aspect of the gender recognition process. It seems acceptable that a change intended to be permanent should require the signing of a binding legal document, and that people who do so for fraudulent or otherwise harmful reasons be subject to criminal proceedings.
I am opposed to a spouse’s consent being required for married/civil-partnered people, as it gives another person unnecessary and potentially harmful control over their spouse’s transition.
Does the spousal consent provision in the Act need reforming? If so, how? If it needs reforming or removal, is anything else needed to protect any rights of the spouse or civil partner?
I understand that when one person in a marriage is changing their gender that changes the legal status of the marriage from a different-gender marriage to a same-gender marriage, or vice versa, and I agree that a spouse must consent to that change as an equal participant.
In order to resolve this issue, I would suggest making marriage law gender-neutral. There is no reason to have a same-gender marriage be any different than a different-gender marriage in law. It need not be “men can marry women, men can marry men, women can marry men, women can marry women” - it can simply be that an adult can marry another adult. That way, if one of the spouses changes their gender, the marriage is unchanged.
This would also prepare marriage law for legal recognition of nonbinary genders.
Should the age limit at which people can apply for a Gender Recognition Certificate (GRC) be lowered?
I am not aware of any reason why it would not be appropriate. In the UK, the NHS has a policy of assuming that children are capable of understanding and consenting (or not consenting) to medical treatment. It should be assumed that a child can also consent (or not) to having the gender marker on their birth certificate changed.
What impact will these proposed changes have on those people applying for a Gender Recognition Certificate, and on trans people more generally?
Moving the process online will allow people to apply electronically, which would likely have a positive impact on the environment due to being less CO2-intensive. It may also make the process faster, which would be positive.
Making the process cheaper will allow poorer people to apply for a GRC, which is positive.
The NHS providing 3 more GICs will allow some patients to travel a shorter distance to access care, which is positive.
However, I don’t think these changes will have a significant impact on the most serious issues affecting transgender people. I consider these to be: excessive waiting times for transition-related treatments, difficulty of access to change of legal gender, the demoralising and humiliating nature of the gender recognition process, and the complete lack of legal recognition of nonbinary genders in UK law.
What else should the Government have included in its proposals, if anything?
Legal recognition of nonbinary genders (including availability of gender recognition certificates and X gender markers on state-issued ID), legal gender recognition by statutory declaration, 400% increase in the number of gender identity clinics in the UK, and no cost for GRC application.
Does the Scottish Government’s proposed Bill offer a more suitable alternative to reforming the Gender Recognition Act 2004?
Yes.
Living in the “new” gender role is required for only 6 months, in line with diagnosis of gender dysphoria. A diagnosis of gender dysphoria is not required, as living in the “new” gender role would suggest that the person has gender dysphoria to the extent that they wish to live in the “new” role and the official diagnosis would be superfluous. A statutory declaration is required, which seems acceptable. All of this seems positive to me.
Requiring applicants to wait for three months to consider their application seems unnecessarily patronising and patriarchal, but the proposed Scottish Bill is still much more fit for purpose than the current and proposed England-and-Wales model.
~
Wider issues concerning transgender equality and current legislation:
Why is the number of people applying for GRCs so low compared to the number of people identifying as transgender?
I am not sure. I imagine there are several complex and intersecting reasons.
I think cost is probably an issue. I think that the amount and type of evidence currently required by the gender recognition panel is not very easy to obtain, and the applicant is unable to sit before the panel in person with or without a legal representative, and so there is a high risk that applicants will not meet the panel’s obscure criteria or be able to persuade them or answer their concerns/questions in person. If the application fails the money is lost, and the (significant) effort involved in application is wasted. The latter is offputting for everyone who might consider applying, and the former is a bonus barrier for poorer people.
I would speculate that it might also be because because living as a different gender than the one you were assigned at birth and getting medical treatment are easier and more medically urgent than changing one’s birth certificate, especially when compared to the frequency with which one has to show one’s birth certificate (and therefore “out” oneself, if one does not already have a GRC).
I think there is a tendency for people to think, “well, how often do I have to show my birth certificate or my tax records to people I have direct contact with? And how often are they going to be indiscreet and transphobic about it? Hardly ever, right?” But by the time they find out that transphobic people do exist and do make an issue about it, or by the time they have to show their birth certificate to someone they’d rather not come out to, it is too late and they are not able to apply for a GRC and get their records updated in time. Not having a GRC is therefore always a problem in the past, which removes urgency.
By comparison, gender dysphoria is a chronic and acute daily psychological discomfort, which is much harder to ignore.
Are there challenges in the way the Gender Recognition Act 2004 and the Equality Act 2010 interact? For example, in terms of the different language and terminology used across both pieces of legislation.
I understand that the Equality Act 2010 has now been tested in court by a nonbinary person in an employment tribunal and found to protect nonbinary people under the characteristic of gender transition “beyond any doubt”. The Gender Recognition Act doesn’t accommodate or provide for nonbinary people, and is therefore in breach of the Equality Act 2010. [3]
Are the provisions in the Equality Act for the provision of single-sex and separate-sex spaces and facilities in some circumstances clear and useable for service providers and service users? If not, is reform or further guidance needed?
I think the guidance for the Equality Act should explicitly state that nonbinary people are protected under the characteristic of gender transition. I do not feel that I am knowledgeable enough to comment on any other issues.
Does the Equality Act adequately protect trans people? If not, what reforms, if any, are needed
Now that the Equality Act 2010 has been shown in court to protect nonbinary people under the protected characteristic of gender transition I have no complaints.
What issues do trans people have in accessing support services, including health and social care services, domestic violence and sexual violence services?
A lot of trans people just don’t report hate crimes to the police because the police often don’t do anything about it. [4]
Because trans people face extra barriers in matters such as housing, employment, and primary and secondary medical care, they need additional support from e.g. Social Services. This means they have the barrier of having to ask for more than other people do, and for that request to be considered by individuals in the system who may also be transphobic, before being granted.
There was a women’s shelter in a city I used to live in, which said on a sign at the door “no men allowed!”, but then on their website it said “women only”. I emailed to ask for clarification, because I am nonbinary and it was unclear whether I would be allowed on the premises. They said that if I identified as a woman I was welcome to enter. As I don’t identify as a woman I didn’t enter. I would presumably also be barred from entering a shelter for abused men. The difficulty for nonbinary people is that there are no provisions for us whatsoever, whether provided or funded by the government/local authorities or otherwise.
Are legal reforms needed to better support the rights of gender-fluid and non-binary people? If so, how?
Yes. We need to be explicitly written into laws and guidance relating to the following:
- Marriage
- Passports
- Driving licenses
- Adoption
- Sexual violence (as victims and as perpetrators, in matters such as disclosure of transgender identity and medical history, definition of rape, etc.)
- Birth certificates (as parents, e.g. language relating to mother/father, birth parent)
- Pensions
- Hate crime
- Provision of public services and facilities (public toilets, changing rooms)
- Any law that has gender-specific statements or provisions
… and probably more.

They dropped the case without telling me, and then when a hate crime advocate called them out on it they took no action AND blamed it on me being open about being trans. I've not reported a hate crime since. The irony of the police telling me not to tell people that I'm trans so I [don’t] get hate crimed (again, not how hate crime law works) is that there's precedent for trans people to be charged with sexual offences if they have sex with someone without disclosing that we're trans.”

Debunking the fantasy of KPOP
1. Appearances
Many idols go through a lot to maintain/have their current appearances. They can range from extreme diets to plastic surgery. Actively seeing a dermatologist or taking supplements for skincare are a must. Keeping a certain weight is also a must. Plastic surgery is more common than believed--even with the most natural looking ones. People don’t suddenly get a sharp nose from losing weight.
2. Being Single
Many idols aren’t single. Good looking people generally have many people crushing after them and have several opportunities to date. The media portrays idols as being not allowed to date at all--that may be true that they have dating bans but since when have people been so good with “bans”? People always find ways to break rules, especially when it comes to love/lust. Just go hang out in a mutual friend’s place or go out with a group of people for a date, or go for drive dates late at night/real early in the morning etc. There are ways to date “quietly”. Buy off the paparazzi and make sure the ssngs are happy with you.
3. Chart Manipulation
This is more common than believed, even with big groups. People need to stop believing that fans do all the charting and fans should really stop staying up to increase YouTube views or stream songs. They just harm their own bodies and do the artists even care about that? No.
4. Sponsorships
Idols get sponsored. Clothes that they wear are so often“sponsored” as in they borrow or they are ambassadors for the brand. If you see rookie groups wearing luxury brands from head to toe when they just started, they are walking models for that brand then. Don’t be fooled into thinking that idols always buy their own stuff. Sometimes they even get paid through “clothes” like how many models are paid that way.
Music also requires “funding” from sponsors. Idols often hold VIP/private sessions for those investors. Sponsorship can come in more sexual forms too and often do. It’s just not publicised. The mild version is like a popular kpop group performing for a big company’s year end Christmas/Holiday event.
5. All members get along with one another or members are best friends with one another.
I’ve mentioned this before but imagine yourself being put with 3 - 6 other people in a dormitory or being forced to work with 3 - 6 other people by your teacher for a group project. Will everyone be best friends with each other? I highly doubt it. Especially when you’re all competing in a way for popularity/wealth. It’s like your group project often gets graded as a group but then you get individual gradings by your peers too.
6. Personalities On Stage
You can think of idols like actors/actresses in a long-term movie/play. They are asked to play a “role” in the group. Over time this role may take on its flavor but initially they have set “traits” for the character, much like an actor/actress playing some role in a movie/play. They have a script to go by and a character setting but the actor/actress gives life to that character. There may be flexibility for idols in terms of how they portray these roles but they are set as well. Once they are more famous, they may be able to shed a bit of their own selves, but that’s rare. You wonder why many idols suffer from mental health problems...
Often the most innocent ones are actually the least innocent ones..
7. Idols being “woke” or so “socially aware”
Many idols are actually not as socially aware or spiritually in tune as people think. They also often use social movements or situations to make their images seem better (i.e. saying they care about feminism/equality or saying that they suffer from some mental health problem.) Trust me, there are idols who can go as far as faking life stories to appeal to the masses.
8. Top idols being extremely wealthy
Yes, there are top idols who are actually wealthy and pay for what they own, but many are not as wealthy as believed. Clothes like I mentioned above are heavily sponsored. Apartments are provided often by the management. If they own and pay completely by cash, then you should be suspicious. (Likely gifted by sponsors/*cough* money laundering) Idols don’t get much of the % of the cut from their company; the more members you have, the more you share. The business model for kpop groups is very unfair to the artists in a way. This is partly why many end up doing acting--paid better and respected more in society’s eyes.
---
Other comments
1. How fandoms can be “toxic” or blind to many things
The companies and the idols are so good at creating an image of “innocence” that many hardcore fans end up being completely 1 sided and side completely with the idols even if they can also be at fault. This promotes a really bad behavior for idols; they end up thinking they can get away with anything, even murder. Yes, there is a presumption of being innocent before proven guilty, but that presumption is not something that should be taken so far when there is proof of what the idol has done.
Idols don’t love fans as much as fans believe they do. Idols love the fame/wealth/status/music/themselves more than their fans.
2. Scandals
Scandals of idols are really manufactured in many ways. Many are released because the news outlets were asked to publish them by various stakeholders, the news outlets didn’t receive enough compensation for the news they had at hand, or another label wants to ruin a group’s prospects. Sometimes companies want scandals to get money from under the table. Look at how many idols who were accused of something only walk away with a slap on the wrist? Corruption is really more prevalent in Korea than believed.
You wonder why Dispatch has been so silent this year . . . compared to previous years. Well, do you see those “exclusive” photoshoots they have with various groups? You wonder why sometimes some news agencies come out with some “news” and then later they retract their news and apologize and months later, the news agencies get an EXCLUSIVE deal with the group that they were reporting on a few months prior?
You wonder why certain groups are consistently hit with scandals while others have such clean images...

I truly appreciate your blog. Really useful. Female INTP here (enneagram 583, so people who don’t know cognitive functions think I’m an ENTJ). Have a very similar skill-set to you and am considering medicine, specifically surgery. I am interested in what made you decide that medicine wasn’t for you and how you transitioned to business and what makes it a better fit.
Related answers:
How might you go about figure out what job to pursue if you’re looking to accomplish the biggest things in the world?
How I selected my career
Would you have tips on refining one’s industry of interest ?
Thanks for visiting. Science and medicine will always be my first love but I decided a medical career personally wasn’t for me and transitioned to business. Some reasons include:
Love for the college subject =/= love for the career. Everyone repeat this 3 times in your minds, please. Science is infinitely more interesting to me as a subject matter which is why I was a science major in college and I have never majored in business– but not as career. As a career, I explored clinical research and patient care through college internships and they weren’t for me, I’m glad I figured it out in time because I was 2 mouse clicks away from enrolling into medical school. Inversely, you couldn’t pay me to study Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or Accounting in college but I was shocked how much I loved management consulting as a career. I loved the complex problems, the travel, the teamwork, the impact, the pace, the colleagues, the exit opportunities, etc. This is why I highly recommend shadowing people in your target profession because your perception of how things are in your mind can be very different than the day-to-day reality especially since you’re an intuitive type.
Lifestyle preferences. I wanted high flexibility over my time and my presence. Generally (disclaimer for people triggered by generalizations: not always), being a doctor requires physical presence in the hospital/medical office to see patients and to perform procedures. In my current role, I have the flexibility to work from anywhere in the world without interruption to my job as long as I have a stable internet connection or cellular reception. I can dial into meetings across the world with my laptop, review data from the comfort of my bed, fire off some recommendations, and have my junior associates implement.
Flexibility to change industries. I get bored easily, very easily, which is why I’ve transitioned from health care to life sciences to federal government to now big tech. I wanted the flexibility to move into new industries by having highly transferable skills.
Geographic flexibility. I can transfer to another country tomorrow without needing to navigate medical licenses, certifications, or approval. I can immediately practice my craft with flexibility once granted a visa. The wife and I have explored living in Singapore or Tokyo for a few years which isn’t difficult to do.
Leadership opportunities. More leadership opportunities in business than in medicine to run large organizations and implement change on a macro level. Doctors can absolutely transition into business leadership roles such as health care administration (running hospitals) but then it conflicts with their ability to see patients which to me is the point of getting a medical degree in the first place. A doctor that wants to pursue business leadership roles in health care administration should just go to business school instead and save 4+ years in medical school, 2+ years in residency, and $200,000+ in medical school debt.
Scale of impact. I have a strong preference for a 1 to many approach rather than a 1 to 1 approach when it comes to impact, I’d rather impact systems than individuals.
Speed of innovation. Technological innovation is faster than medical innovation and that’s understandable because medical innovation deals with lives so it requires more time, care, and caution. I don’t have the patience to wait 10+ years for a new medical innovation to be approved for testing. In Big Tech, we can plan, launch, and land a new product, application, or service in months. We’re playing with artificial intelligence, machine learning, virtual reality, and new technologies without the burden of dealing with complicated regulations and slow government bodies.
Revenue vs. Cost Center. This is a concept I’ve covered before here which impacts everything from personal compensation to project funding. In America, health care is generally viewed as a cost center instead of a revenue center so the focus is always on cutting expenses, reducing waste, and controlling spending. The focus is always inwards on how to make current systems better, more efficient, and cheaper without reducing quality– how to do more with less. It was a cycle of fighting with the insurance companies or government to get scarce funding that was tallied to the penny. I disliked that. Business is a revenue center, the focus is outwards on how to make new business lines and/or products, generate new accounts, and expand to new countries and markets– how to do more with more. Business tends to have more financial flexibility than health care to play with when it comes to innovation, projects, travel, and salaries. We can take more risks, fail with less severe consequences, and move faster because we have more money to play with.
The messy bureaucracy known as the United States health care system. I was a health care and life sciences management consultant for years, I became intimately familiar with this hot mess of a system and I didn’t want to be part of it.
Ultimately, remember that the purpose of this blog is not to endorse one career path over another. Business has its own set of bullshit but it was an overall better fit for my personality and my interests. This was the best choice for me, pick the path that’s best for you.

Hi, when you say that you understand completely the reasons why people don't like the better binder project you're being very presumptuous. It's not the same as well-meaning but ignorant abled people attempting to solve highly complex and expensive problems of access for disabled people. And furthermore, the way you talk about this is really condescending and frankly just...you make assumptions that you understand the intimacies of how people think and feel that are just not true or analogous.
Like I mean this in the nicest possible way, but cisgender people’s relation to trans people is just not the same, and it would be a lot less patronizing and transphobic of you to *not* characterize every possible negative and/or critical reaction to this blog as being a reflexive anger and automatic rejection instead of being a justified and/or reasonable wariness. Like I absolutely hope this project succeeds, but there’s no reason to think that you’re qualified to make it succeed.
I’m going to use this also as a way to respond to your post, which didn’t show up on my Acitivity, so I’m glad someone pointed me to it.
1. My ability to listen to criticism
For the last couple weeks, I’ve been monitoring the activity of my posts, especially looking for people saying things like, “This will never work”, “this is a bad idea”, “won’t work for me” and so forth. Then a lot of the time I’ve messaged them to say, “Hi, I want to hear about your thoughts and experiences, do you have time to talk?”. I’m in a little bit of a backlog with this because some really smart and informed people have been commenting on it but I’ve been busy. For example, if I got the chance to listen to @the-scottish-costume-guy at greater length and in greater detail in the next couple days, I’d be really happy.
So while some criticisms have been reflexive rage or despair, others have been completely on point and I’ve already integrated them into my design (for example, recommendations to slope the boning diagonally down and to the outside). And others have been logical on the surface, but don’t apply to the specific thing I am trying to do (eg. “corsets are expensive”)
2. My credentials
I’ve been sewing seriously for the last 20 years. In some of that time, I’ve been paid for my work. For much of it, I’ve both been reading academic sources on the topic, and sewing in the workshops of vastly more experienced sewists. Over and above all my other sewing experience, I’ve made and worn numerous corsets. There is no set certification for a “professional tailor” but yes, if I wanted to do that as a job, I do have the resume and portfolio for it.
Tailoring isn’t actually the field you want here, though. Since beginning this project, I’ve located and contacted several researchers in the fields of human ecology, mechanical engineering, and biomedical engineering, who have relevant expertise. None have yet gotten back to me, probably partly because it’s summer. If someone more qualified than me wants to work on this project, I am 100% willing to collaborate with them, or hand the project off to them.
3. My profiting from this project
I’ve already made some very particular and pointed decisions about this. If I wanted to significantly profit from this project, I would:
Keep my R&D process secret
Patent and license the design
Sell patterns of the design I made for individuals wanting to make their own, individual, copy
Sell binders I myself made, or possibly outsource their production and then sell the result
Send cease&desist letters threatening to sue anyone selling copies of my binder, or any other binder on similar design principles, or any pattern for such a binder
Demand that anyone wanting to profit from the use of my design principles pay me a licensing fee.
Meanwhile, my plan right now includes:
Publicizing my concepts and progress in a way freely accessible to anyone with an Internet connection
Maintaining a record of my progress to keep anyone else from claiming to be its inventor and licensing it in exploitative ways
Encouraging feedback from as many people as possible and seeking out trans, nb, and genderqueer perspectives
Coming soon: Creating a survey about wearer experiences and health outcomes, asking anyone involved in this project to report back so the data can be disseminated and analyzed. If this project and my design are a failure, I will say so.
Making design concepts, and in the future, patterns and tutorials, freely available to anyone with an internet connection, and agreeing to their republication to reach other audiences
Only receiving donations from people who understand that this is an experimental venture, posed as the question, “What if I tried this thing,” and only profiting from items that I have ensured people could get for themselves some other way. (eg “Here’s a free tutorial on making this binder using items from the dollar store. However, if you want to buy a $20 kit of high-quality items pre-cut for your convenience, here’s my Etsy”)
Providing prototypes to their intended wearers for free in return for feedback about the wearers’ experiences, instead of selling half-baked designs for a profit
Openly encouraging other sewists to suggest design improvements, make their own versions, or make binders for other people without paying me
In the future, I’m very open to stepping back in my own role in this project, and handing it off to trans people who have taken the idea and run with it.
From a legal perspective, I have probably already ruined my chances of making big bucks from this project, and I did that on purpose. From the beginning, I realized that it is very possible for me to be exploitative in how I handle this project.
I honestly asked for money because I can’t pay for medications, groceries and utilities right now. I got about $300, which was enough to cover most of my monthly medical expenses. Most of the clients I see as a psychotherapist are disabled, living on extremely limited incomes, and cannot pay me much more than the cost I pay to rent the room we meet in. I’m trying to survive and find a better job. If I had a full-time job and made a decent income, I would be funding this project out of my own pocket. I know how to market and monetize a project like this, and have, from the first, deliberately chosen not to, in large part because I’m cis and this isn’t my issue.
4. Binders over top surgery
This project has largely been inspired by a trans person with whom I have worked, whose parents were involved in a custody dispute beginning when they were 14. At 14 they realized they were trans, but they required the consent of both parents for medical procedures until the age of 18. One parent was extremely transphobic and would not consent to top surgery, although they didn’t see their child on a regular basis and didn’t know how they dressed and presented. During those 4 years, they used a binder as a way of dealing with the dysphoria that made them suicidal. Despite its negative physical health effects (pain, trouble breathing, rashes, etc) the binder was an essential aid to their mental health.
Yes, binding is a “stopgap” method compared to top surgery. However, one of my major areas of work is as a mental health therapist with LGBTQ people, especially teenagers. Not everyone can get top surgery, and not always as quickly as it is needed. Sometimes there is a gap you need to stop.
5. Why do we need better binders at all?
I didn’t go into this because I, frankly, had considered the need for improvements in binder technology so well-documented as to be completely obvious. Just today someone tagged this blog talking about how much they want it to work because “binding gives me rashes, makes my already shitty lungs hurt, makes my back hurt, and doesn’t actually work for me“ Would you like me to curate the research and accounts of people who have problems with the current models of binder available? Is that proof you in fact need?
7. Corsets are unsuitable/super gendered
Yep! That’s why I’m not making corsets. I’m trying to use the engineering elements from corsetry that would make the binder better, and make everything else as un-corset-like as possible.
How possible this is is an open question right now. For example, corsets need to be fitted so precisely because they go from the bust to the hips, and therefore need the correct bust, waist, and hip measurement, and the correct height, and the correct ratio of all things to each other, and to have the correct vertical profile. My current hypothesis is that by making a binder that covers only the bust, I can eliminate many of these complexities. However, many informed observers of the project have told me that they think I’m wrong, and that the binder will need to extend to the waist to more evenly distribute the load of compression, and a garment that only goes around the chest will cause too much back pain over the long term. This is a question I think can honestly only be answered when I ship my prototypes to my genderqueer friend in Georgia, who shares my measurements and is eager to try each model out for hours/days/weeks and report back.
At present, I am experimenting with adaptations to sports bras, which I also know can be too gendered and induce dysphoria. I’m using them because my current project is aimed at people who have very little experience sewing, and therefore would benefit from only having to add a few elements to an already-constructed garment. After this, I want to see if I can transition those adaptations to something less gendered, like a tank top. After that, I can begin work on drafting a binder entirely from scratch, which, one hopes, I can make as ungendered as possible.
My askbox is open!

Health Internship - Moroccan Center for Arabic Studies
My internship in Morocco was an eye-opening experience. Morocco is an Islamic country in Northern Africa embodying a population of about thirty-four million people. Most of the population of Morocco are Muslims which are followers of the religion Islam. They are destined to complete five pillars: 1. Shahada: testifying to only worship one God, 2. Salat: praying five times a day 3. Zakat: giving a certain percentage of wealth to those in need (this is mostly done during Ramadan), 4. Sawm: Fasting, Hajj: Pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in their lifetime.
Morocco is less conservative than many other Islamic countries. For example, women are allowed to pursue higher education such a being a teacher or doctor. Women are allowed to drive. The biggest difference I noticed in Morocco was all women were not subjected to wear a hijab which is the covering of the head for purification. In Morocco, this practice was more of a choice where as other countries covering your head is viewed as a requirement once women go through puberty. All of these practices have to do with the culture. Some practices are enforced while others are strictly recommended. I’ve seen first-hand how culture can have a huge impact on how religion plays a role throughout the country.
In the two months I was in Morocco, I had the pleasure of witnessing several Islamic traditions. The biggest one I was able to witness was the holy month of Ramadan. Ramadan is the month on the Islamic calendar that represents when the first verses of the Qur’an was revealed to the Prophet. Fasting is prescribed during that month as a mean of building self- control, patience, and just gives a generally idea of what others less fortunate have to endure. The day after Ramadan ends is known as Eid al-Fitr (the Festival of Fast-Breaking). This is celebrated by a huge breakfast and family members visiting all day. One of the traditions that stood out to me the most is the circumcision of young infant boys. Male circumcision is the surgical removal of the mucosal tissue from tip of the penis. This is a tradition I was exposed to often since I volunteered in the hospital everyday. The Islamic religion enforces for circumcision to be required to legitimatize the male gender however it is often not performed in hospitals.
The Islamic religion enforces for circumcision to be required to legitimatize the male gender however it is often not performed in hospitals. The Islamic word for circumcision is Khitan and it is mainly performed for religious reasons, mainly to follow the practice of the Prophet Muhammad. Circumcision is not directly enforced from the Qur’an however, the importance of following the Prophet Ibrahim’s word is mentioned who does mention the commandment to circumcise. With this being said, to be able to practice the religion of Islam circumcision has to be performed.
Volunteering at Hôpital d’Enfants Rabat, a children’s hospital, I would see circumcisions performed on a daily basis and I saw even more circumcisions being fixed. They were being fixed because the parents of the child would take them to a Hajam, who are the usually the owners of a barbershop or salons, and get the child circumcised. The level of trust with their own religious leaders is greater than the level of trust with doctors. I wondered why? The doctors expressed to me their concerns and frustration when it came to patients where there was no way to fix the damage the Hajam has done.
They constantly scolded the parents for their actions. I consider this a social issue because more than half of the time the circumcisions are not performed correctly and they lead to other undesired consequences such a kidney disease and blood infections. I wanted to explore why and how the Hajam started their role. I also wanted to explore if this way is more of a ritual doing of circumcision or is it a tradition that is passed down from to older generations. Being in a different culture I assumed this was their way of practice but once the doctors told me this has nothing to do with the Moroccan culture, it has almost everything to do with religion and how they wished it were different I decided to investigate a little more into the issue by interviewing the doctors from their perspective of being Muslims and their perspective from being certified medical professionals.
I was not able to interview parents and their opinions however, I did observe their actions when arriving to the hospital and I was able to jot down my daily observations. My role in the community was to observe and shadow the doctors while they explained to me the procedures of their surgeries. During the night shifts they required my assistance to go fetch sanitary items and/or surgery tools from around the hospital since they were usually short staffed. I mainly served the observer role inside and outside of the hospital. I made local friends and they would show me around the city asking me questions about my culture and religion. Even though they were not part of my social issue I observed them and noticed how interested they were to know so much about me and my background. It really spoke volumes to the contrasting lifestyle and cultural upbringing of these few locals when compared to that of my own. The community members were really fascinated with making every visitor feel welcome. Being a pre-medical student in my undergraduate studies, I found this to be an interesting topic to explore.
My career aspirations involve working in the family and child care area while directly working with immigrant, migrant families. Being in Morocco I saw many families who were less fortunate and couldn’t afford the proper healthcare and it just reminded me of what my family and I went through. I’ve had the opportunity to shadow in the United States and I was once able to see a circumcision being performed with the appropriate materials and resources in a hospital setting. I am used to seeing things being performed only one type of way so being able to witness medical practices in a developing country was completely amazing to me. When I first saw a circumcision being performed in Morocco it was very similar to the one I have witnessed previously.
The next patient came and the first surgery I was able to witness was a circumcision being reconstructed because it was done tremendously wrong by a Hajam. I was almost a little thrown off mainly because I was so confused. The surgeons were explaining to me the Hajam wasn’t very experienced so he cut more skin than he was supposed to. After this surgery is when I knew this could potentially be the social issue I would be researching for my capstone. The ritual of being circumcised is just as important as when a woman gives birth or a couple is getting married. A ceremony is held to celebrate the child’s circumcision, family members arrive with gifts and dress in their nicest kaftans (a typical robe or tunic). During my internship, my host family took me to one of these circumcision ceremonies and the child was dressed in his nicest kaftan. We walked in and the set-up was similar to a wedding: large tables with centerpieces, a local group playing music, and pastries being passed around as appetizers. The child was presented to the all of the family members and then right there in front of everyone and the child was circumcised.
The Hajam came in with his tools at his side and he went straight to clipping in front of everyone. He used just a small amount of numbing cream. Afterwards, the child was in so much pain he was barely able to walk. Everyone went back to celebrating. In contrast, in the United States, circumcision is seen more as a choice when the infant is born. They perform the circumcision when the infant is born to avoid any pain when they fully develop pain sensations. Circumcision is used as more of a luxury such as hygienic factors. Most of the time parents decide to circumcise their children to prevent and complications that might happen in the future. There are cases however where circumcision is necessary for medical purposes.
In the U.S. circumcision is performed in a hospital setting or clinic with trained medical professionals. The act of performing this procedure anywhere else is extremely frowned upon. As I mentioned above, the child in the ceremony only used a little bit of numbing cream while its mandatory for a child to be in full anesthesia to be able to perform this operation. As I’m comparing the difference between how circumcision works in both countries one thing that does not seem to come up in the U.S. is religion. In Morocco, for example, its acceptable if parents take their children to the Hajam because of their beliefs. Whereas in the U.S there is no other option besides the hospital or clinic regardless of beliefs. Religion does has not have a say in circumcision in the United States. The local perspectives in Morocco are supportive of this tradition. This tradition embodies their beliefs and its up to them to pass it down to the next generation.
I interviewed my host mother who is in the age range between 50-60. She was married at the of age 14 and never graduated from high-school. She has two children who are now two grown adults with their own families. Her eldest child being male, I asked about his circumcision ceremony and why did she prefer to have a Hajam perform this procedure rather than a certified professional. Her reasoning was simple and straight to the point: its tradition. Just how the tradition in my household is to bake and decorate cookies the night before Christmas, this is similar. My host mother continued to explain how this tradition of circumcision is important in their culture but overall their religion. The answers I have been collecting all just lead back to the same reasonings: tradition and religion. I decided to interview a medical professional to compare and contrast their answers to a mother of a circumcised male. The medical professional I was able to interview is a fourth year resident in pediatric surgery. His name will not be mentioned due to privacy request. The doctor stated in French, which then the interpreter translated to me, “I absolutely do not agree with a Hajam performing circumcisions. The parents do not know the level of damage they are causing their sons.”
To summarize his interview, being a medical professional and knowing the science behind these procedures its hard what he explained “being Muslim”. I was not entirely sure what he meant by “being Muslim” using Muslim as if it were a verb. He went on saying his beliefs being a Muslim and his knowledge being a pediatric surgeon clash because he knows the tradition is danger all wrapped up in a nutshell. If a child is not properly circumcised, this error can lead to a blood infection then leading to the failure of kidneys. The severity of the cut sometimes determines if the penis will even be able to be reconstructed. I witnessed an extreme case where unfortunately the penis could not be rehabilitated or saved. In these cases, the child has to attend counseling for the trauma.
The deformity after an improper procedure can lead to desensitization of the penis. This nonetheless causes stress and depression when the child is older and is planning to have a family. The doctors have all tried to raise awareness of the dangers of being circumcised without the proper equipment and a trained professional. They have unfortunately been unsuccessful with this awareness and they continue reconstructing to the best of their abilities. The main problem they all seem to face is that medical procedures whether done under religious pretenses or not, are dangerous without professional help, and could result in complications. The lack of education in most of the parents and children, give rise to apathetic or unconcerned choices in surgical procedures such as circumcision. A few of the young children are not educated enough to know the difference between a circumcision being performed in the hospital and the traditional circumcision which is performed by a Hajam.
The literacy level in 2004 was a 51.7 percent of the population aged 15 years and older. I attempted to suggest to a fellow physician that the best way to tackle this issue would be to possibly spread the word of a properly performed circumcision and try to educate those who do not know the other option that exist. Though I found that even if they completely disagree with the tradition of choosing a Hajam over a medical professional, they cannot go against their religion. The doctors themselves admit to attending these ceremonies for family members and celebrating. In the end, the physicians are dealt with the impasse of speaking out on such dangers as a health professional or remaining, in faith, as a bystander to the dangerous tradition. As local physicians hold these values themselves, it is difficult for them to find fault with the practice, as such traditions are upheld to a high regard and to speak against it, would be the same as to speak against their own religion.
It is inferred that the Hajam or Barbers, began to assume the practice of circumcision as it was inexpensive. Less fortunate families in the community could not afford the procedure to be done by a physician, but all the same, are apart of the Muslim faith. Hajams were believed to take upon this role as an alternative, though it may be much more dangerous. And as the Qu’ran does not specify who must perform the circumcision it is only opposed by physicians medically speaking. In summation, circumcision is a tradition that was celebrated due to the Prophet Ibrahim’s word. Circumcision, also known as Khitan, is a sacred act a male should have to endure to be able to be a follower of Islam. With traditions comes rituals which include ceremonial practices where the procedure is performed by a Hajam in front of all the loved ones. Observing the Moroccan culture and the particular family that I was able to accompany I found Moroccan people to very religious and family oriented.
They are naturally very openminded and curious about others out side of their lifestyle such as myself. I found that they enjoy learning new things and enjoy meeting new people. Even as the ritual of circumcision itself is a questioning and, a dangerous procedure regardless of whom is performing it, it is one that is based on tradition and what is perceived to be right. As it is believed to be in accordance with the actions of the Prophet Ibrahim in the Qu’ran. To date there seems to be no change to how circumcision is viewed, however the medical professionals in Morocco are trying to raise awareness by educating their local population on the dangers that can be set upon the child. My role as an observer and an outsider to the tradition gave me a different perspective on how this social issue could be approached. With an emphasis on health and well-being, the needs of the child should come first. The importance of the Muslim tradition should not be lost in that the practice would still be performed but under much safer conditions with a licensed physician.
Though unfortunately, this social issue has something to do with factors that can not be easily be ignored such as religion. Overall, my experience was very eye-opening, it was interesting to see how a country depends so much on religion coming from the United States where it is so diverse. It is often considered as a melting pot. Going from so many cultures to one singular national faith was shocking. In all, Morocco became my home away from home, and I felt connected to the individuals there. I feel grateful to be given the opportunity to be a guest into their life. Despite some of the obstacles, Morocco was an experience I wouldn’t change for anything in the world. I learned more about myself than I expected. Their country is intermingled with religion and the basis of medical procedures such as circumcision, was expected to be affected by it. As someone from the United States, where circumcision is not very common, I found that the more I learned about their faith and customs, there was reason behind their practices.

Chinchilla Wound Management: Basic Guidelines
If your chinchilla has hurt itself, your first instinct is probably to panic! But what should you do? How do you manage your pet's wounds to maximize its chance of a complete recovery, and what can go wrong if you don't?
What do you do if your chinchilla has wounds? Take it to the vet. The vet will clean the wound and rinse/flush it with saline to prevent infection. They may also administer antibiotics and/or set any broken bones, depending on the wound. You should then manage the wound at home by administering antibiotics as per the vet's orders, changing bandages or plasters, and removing platforms from the cage to prevent the chinchilla overexerting itself and opening the wound again. If you don't treat a wound that becomes infected, your chinchilla could die.
The guide below first describes what kind of wounds chinchillas can get, from bite and scratch wounds to lost toes and broken bones. It will then describe the role of the vet in identifying the problem, diagnosing an infection, and recommending management guidelines. Finally, it will detail these guidelines on how to treat a chinchilla's wounds at home.
Note: if your chinchilla is sick or injured, take it to the vet as soon as possible. This guide is for informational purposes only, like a dictionary or an encyclopedia; it's not intended to replace a vet's care or diagnosis. The idea is that you read it so that you know what to do if your chinchilla has wounds in the future!
What Wounds Can Chinchillas Get?
Chinchillas can develop a variety of wounds. Some of these are from the chinchilla's environment (its cage). Others are from the chinchilla's cage mates. Others are a combination of both. The list below addresses first the most common kinds of wound, then the least common.
1) Bite and Scratch Wounds
If something bites or scratches your chinchilla, it can easily get bite or scratch wounds. Your chinchilla's fur provides some protection, but not a lot.
A chinchilla can get these wounds from being attacked by another chinchilla. Chinchillas that are friends can fall out with each other and get into serious fights, even to the point that they kill each other. They will use their teeth as their primary weapons. These cause deceptively deep wounds; they may be much deeper than they look like.
Chinchillas can also get puncture wounds like these from being attacked by other pets. You shouldn't let your chinchilla loose around other pets at any time; you should also not let other pets in your chinchilla's room for the same reason.
2) Abscesses and Ulcers
An abscess is a collection of pus under the skin. They are caused by bacterial infections. Bacteria enters the body, but sometimes, it can't easily escape from under the skin; if that happens, it collects in a large bubble.
Chinchillas can get abscesses or ulcers anywhere on the body, but they're more common in some places than others. They frequently occur alongside malocclusion, because the overgrown teeth cut into your chinchilla's gums. These cuts are easily infected by bacteria in the mouth. They can also form on the feet from standing too long on solid surfaces (e.g. naked cage bars or solid wood). This is a condition known as bumblefoot.
3) Broken Bones and Dislocations
Chinchillas have skeletons just like we do, but because they're so small, their bones are flexible and weak. As such, fighting can also cause broken bones. Chins can also break bones when they get their toes or feet trapped in something, such as an exercise wheel with slats, in the bars of the cage, or just by falling awkwardly. A fracture is where a bone cracks or snaps, while a dislocation is where a bone pops out from a joint, the same as in people.
As in people, these fractures and dislocations range in severity. Severe breaks can poke through the skin/fur. Less severe hairline fractures aren't obvious from the outside, but will only become so when you observe your chinchilla's behavior. If it has a hairline fracture in its foot, for example, it won't put as much weight on that foot as it is in pain.
The break may be anywhere in the chinchilla's body, as chinchillas have bones throughout their bodies like we do. Breaks commonly occur in the feet (e.g. if they get caught in something), the ribcage and in the tail.
4) Amputations
If your chinchilla gets in a serious fight, its cage mate might bite off its toes or its fingers. While the term amputation is normally used in the context of surgery, it can also describe limb or digit loss that occurs due to trauma. These wounds are particularly serious, but they can heal if treated correctly. Losing a toe or part of the ear is the most common form of amputation.
What to Do If Your Chinchilla Has Wounds
If your chinchilla has any kind of wound, you ought to treat it. It's your job to keep your pet safe, and leaving your chinchilla's wound to heal on its own doesn't do that. That's because it will likely cause your chinchilla pain, and could get infected and kill it.
There are several steps to successfully managing your chinchilla's wound. The first is to take any immediately necessary steps, e.g. preventing bleeding, which could cause serious complications before your chinchilla sees a vet. The second step, unsurprisingly, is to get to a vet as soon as possible. Once the vet has done what they need to do, you then have to manage your pet's wound at home. The vet will tell you how to do this, and you should follow their advice.
Initial Wound Management
While your first thought should be to get your chinchilla to the vet, there may be certain steps that are necessary before you can. This is only typically necessary if the wound is very severe, as in most cases, you can take your chinchilla to/arrange a visit from an emergency vet who you can see in plenty of time.
If your chinchilla is bleeding severely, try to apply pressure above the wound to prevent blood loss. You can also hold the wound above the chinchilla's heart, which again would slow blood loss.
Note: These techniques should only be used in the meantime while you get your chinchilla to the vet. They aren't intended to replace a vet's care, but to help the chinchilla survive. If your chinchilla is severely injured, take it to the vet immediately rather than reading this guide.
Take Your Chinchilla to The Vet
No matter how your chinchilla is injured, you should take it to the vet as soon as possible. The vet will a) determine the problem, b) recommend how to stop it happening again, and c) recommend how to treat it.
There are definitely wounds you can treat on your own at home, provided you have the right tools and materials. However, you could mistakenly misdiagnose what the problem is and thereby let the issue get worse.
Take an infection, for example. You can clean an infection at home, and if you have antibiotics from a previous issue, you may be tempted to use them. But only a vet can administer the right antibiotics. That's because certain antibiotics kill certain bacteria, and the bacteria infecting your chinchilla's wound may not be of the same kind as last time.
How Do Vets Check a Chinchilla's Wounds?
The vet will directly examine the affected area, and will figure out what caused the problem, and how to fix it. It will likely be something from the list above. The vet will check:
The overall condition of your chinchilla. If your chinchilla is sick in more ways than one, then a more aggressive treatment may be necessary to save its life.
Whether the wound is infected. If it is, it will need to be treated in a different way (with antibiotics).
How deep and serious the wound is. The wound may require stitches if it's particularly deep.
Whether the wound has been bleeding. If it has, it will need to be cleaned up. How much blood was shed also signifies how serious the wound is.
The vet will assess both how serious the wound is, and what type of wound it is, and recommend one of the treatments below.
How Do Vets Dress a Chinchilla's Wounds?
If your chinchilla has a deep puncture wound, it has to be dressed. You can't just leave it open, because if you do, it could get infected. The chinchilla may also nibble at it and make the wound worse.
The first thing the vet will do is shave away a small amount of fur around the wound. This will stop any fur from getting stuck in there. The fur will likely be covered in blood too, so this will help keep your chin's coat clean. They will then flush the wound with saline solution. There are several reasons why they do this:
To wash away any blood
To clear the wound of any debris like bits of claws or teeth, dust and dirt, and so on
To clean away any bacteria that could infect the wound
Once the wound is cleaned, they will dress it. They may do this either with a cast or with a plaster, depending on the severity and type of wound. To put a plaster in place, they may have to shave the fur around the chinchilla's wound. This serves the double purpose of also getting rid of matted, bloodied fur, which would hurt your chinchilla if it were left in place.
Do Vets Set Chinchillas' Broken Bones?
If your chinchilla's bones are broken, it is possible for the vet to set them back into place, just as they would with a person.
This is only relevant and helpful in certain cases, however. If your chinchilla has a broken rib, then it cannot be set back into place. Rather, it must be left to heal on its own. Setting is only possible and helpful along bones like the leg bones, which can be realigned and set into place by a cast. Talk with your vet about the options your pet has.
Can Chinchillas Die from Wounds?
Chinchillas can easily pass away because of their wounds. Some wounds damage internal organs; others cause dramatic loss of blood. Some limit your chinchilla's capabilities so much that it can't take care of itself any more. Only the most serious wounds are guaranteed to be fatal, but even basic scratches and cuts can become infected, and if they do, then these can kill your pet too.
How to Treat a Chinchilla's Wounds at Home
Just because your vet has checked over your chinchilla, that doesn't mean your pet is better. There are still things you have to do to help it recover. The rest of this guide focuses on how you can help your chin get better, and have its wounds heal with a minimum of complications.
The three things you have to do are dress and clean the wounds, and check for and manage infection. The rest of this section addresses how to stop a chinchilal wound from getting infected.
How to Flush a Chinchilla's Wound with Saline
Something else your vet might ask you to do is flush your pet's wounds with a special saline solution. The point of doing so is to keep the wound clean and remove any debris. This is important when the wound is first treated, but may also be useful later on.
The vet will supply you with the solution you're supposed to use, and will show you how to use it. Follow their advice precisely. The technique is called 'irrigation', and the point is to achieve a steady flow of fluid over and across the wound to wash it and prevent infection. Don't squeeze the fluid directly into the wound, but rather across it gently. Ensure that no large amounts of fluid are left inside the wound when you're done.
Another benefit of doing this is that it keeps the wound moist. Wounds heal quicker if kept moist, although this does also make infections more likely (more on that in a moment). Only do this if your vet advises you to. Otherwise you might unnecessarily stress your chinchilla and cause it pain.
You can also use saline solution that you make at home, as described above. We would recommend using a vet's saline solution as there is a chance you could make it incorrectly, but many owners do this without a problem.
How to Make Your Own Sterile Saline Solution
Saline solution is salt water. Salt water is a mild but effective antibiotic. You can make it yourself at home if the vet's solution is too expensive, or if you just like doing things yourself.
To make your own solution, you need sterile water. If you use regular tap water, it might have all sorts of bacteria or even parasites in it. Making sterile water is easy: all you have to do is boil it. Follow these steps to make sterile saline solution:
Fully clean a pot or pan and allow it to air dry.
Place one cup of water in a pot or pan with half a tablespoon of regular table salt. If you want more saline solution, use both more water and more salt (e.g. four cups and two tablespoons).
Bring the water to a boil and maintain the heat for fifteen minutes. Leave the lid on.
Set the pan aside and allow it to cool down to room temperature.
Pour directly into a clean jar or bottle.
You can then use this solution to clean your chinchilla's wounds, large or small. You can either flush the wound as described above, or dab it gently to clean it.
How to Treat a Scratch or Superficial Cut
Scratches and light cuts will heal on their own. However, there are things you can do to make the healing process faster and to minimize the threat of infection.
Rather than fully running the wound under water (which would be ideal), dab it gently with saline solution. Dab the area around the wound with special care; dab the wound directly, but not too much, as this is painful for your pet.
This should be enough to stop the wound from getting deeper or becoming infected. Check the wound each day for signs of infection (which are described in detail below).
How to Stop a Chinchilla Bleeding
If your chinchilla has a minor cut and minor bleeding, treat the wound as you would a wound on a person. Place something that can absorb the blood over the wound and hold it in place. Lint-free cotton pads work well for this purpose. You can then change the pad if it becomes soaked with blood (although if your chinchilla is bleeding that much, you should take it to the vet rather than treat the issue yourself). If you have alginate dressing, you could use that instead.
You can either hold the pad in place, or secure it with a bandage. Other techniques work for chinchillas too, like applying pressure above the wound to stop it from bleeding as much. Be careful if you do this, as chinchillas have delicate bones that can easily be broken, and you would cause more harm than good if you are too rough.
While it may be effective at drying things out, don't put chinchilla dust on the wound. This would get into the wound and cause irritation, which would prevent proper healing. It would also get stuck in the blood in your chinchilla's fur.
How to Dress a Deep Chinchilla Bite Wound
Wound management isn't something you do once. It's an ongoing process. As such, while the vet will perform the initial dressing of your chinchilla's wounds, you will have to wash and dress them as they continue healing.
While allowing the wound to 'breathe' is optimal for a person, this isn't necessarily the case for a chinchilla. That's because your chinchilla's cage has lots of bacteria in it from poop, pee, old discarded food, and bacteria generally hanging around (even if you clean regularly).
Do so as the vet instructs you. This is likely to be similar to how you dress a person's wound. The only issue is that you can't use plasters (band-aids), as they will get stuck in your chinchilla's fur, unless it has been shaved away.
To clean the wound, take the dressing off carefully. Dab at the wound with an antiseptic solution, either one that the vet prescribed, or one that you bought over the counter. Check for the signs of infection, as they are described below. Then, replace the dressing with a fresh one.
How to Check For Signs of Infection
You have to check your chinchilla's wound/s every day for signs of infection. Infection makes wounds heal slower, and if it gets worse, can develop into sepsis; that can be life threatening. So, look at the wound every day to see if you can see:
Swelling. When a wound is infected, the body sends more blood there. This blood contains white blood cells, which kill bacteria. The dilated blood vessels and extra blood in the area make it swell up.
Redness. Another side effect of this is that the area turns red.
White fluid. As the body combats the infection, dead white blood cells and dead bacterial cells pile up. They form pus which is expelled from the body. This is a sticky, stinky white fluid.
Obvious pain. Infection makes wounds more painful.
The unique bad smell of a wound. Wound-smell is caused by bacterial infections.
If you spot these issues, you should take your pet back to the vet. They will clean the wound again, and will prescribe antibiotics for your pet.
Treating Infected Chinchilla Wounds (Antibiotics)
Antibiotics kill bacteria. But not all antibiotics kill the same bacteria, and not all are administered in the same way.
Some antibiotics are administered by injection. Either the vet can do this for you, or you can do it at home. Others are administered by mouth. The idea of both kinds is to get the antibiotics into the bloodstream, from where they will find the wound. This also prevents the bacteria getting into the blood (sepsis). Antibiotics may not be necessary; talk to your vet to find out if they are.
How to Fix Bumblefoot in Chinchillas
Bumblefoot is a highly problematic and painful medical condition. It can become fatal, as the infection at the root of it is difficult to cure and can precipitate sepsis.
You need to do lots of things to manage bumblefoot at home. You can't treat the symptoms/wounds in isolation. They are caused by inappropriate cage setup, so only once you have corrected this can the wounds heal. Bumblefoot is caused by standing on solid surfaces for too long: naked cage bars and solid wood provide uneven pressure on your chinchilla's feet, first making its natural calluses larger, then causing abscesses. As such, before you think about wound management, you must:
Place soft fleece wrapped around solid wood on the floor of your pet's cage
Frequently change the fleece so that your chinchilla isn't standing on something wet and dirty
Bumblefoot is primarily managed by antibiotics. If you don't treat the core infection, it will never go away, as it tends to be deep-seated in this condition. Follow whatever antibiotic guidelines your vet recommends.
If you learn one thing from this guide, let it be this: take your chinchilla to the vet as soon as possible if it has obvious wounds. Even if you're an experienced owner, doing so is a good idea. That's because the vet can identify other health issues at the same time, as well as teach you a thing or two about your pet's anatomy and care. The goal should always be to provide the best care possible, and visiting a vet helps achieve that goal.

But What Is A PCOS Diet And How Do I Follow It?
As intense as the term “PCOS Diet” sounds, it's all about following a set of rules as opposed to following a rigid diet. A PCOS diet typically follows a set of rules as follows
1. It is not about “No Carbs” but rather “Slow Carbs”- A common misconception among women is that completely cutting out carbs can cure infertility, but this is far from true. Carbohydrates are a very essential part of every diet and a PCOS friendly diet should focus on including healthy carbs such as oats, whole wheat, whole grains and so on while cutting back on refined and processed flours.
2. Promote Protein: Protein is no doubt another essential aspect of every diet. Regardless of whether you are a non-vegetarian or not, you need to focus on including healthy sources of protein in your diet. For vegetarians, lentils, soya, tofu are all excellent sources and non-vegetarians can include healthy lean meats such as chicken and fish and also eggs for the best experience.
3. Oh My Omega!: Fatty acids such Omega 3 fatty acids and Omega 6 fatty acids are extremely essential components of a healthy diet and have proven to have tremendous benefits for women suffering from PCOS. Flaxseeds, chia seeds and some nuts are great sources of it and you may also consider supplements.
4. Fix the Fibre: Fibre is a great component to improve overall body functioning. Fibre can help with insulin resistance and is a great addition to a PCOS diet.
5. Think Oils: Yet again a common misconception is that a PCOS diet should be fat free. Healthy fats in the form of monounsaturated fatty acids can be a great addition. A PCOS diet should cut back on refined oils and include natural oils such as coconut oil.
6. Healthy Food, Healthy Body: Avoid instant foods or fast foods as they tend to have extremely high levels of unhealthy sodium, sugars and fats. Switch to more organic, fresh and homemade options instead to see better results.
7. Hydrated Body is a Happy Body: Water is yet again one very essential component. Focus on hydration and ensure that you consume at least 2-3L of water per day. Fresh pressed juices without sugar and infused waters can also act as a great way to keep yourself hydrated and flush out toxins.
Is A PCOS Diet Plan Worth Following And How Can It Help Me?
Women with PCOS are often found to have higher than normal insulin levels. Insulin is a hormone that’s produced in your pancreas. It helps the cells in your body turn sugar (glucose) into energy. If you don’t produce enough insulin, your blood sugar levels can rise. This can also happen if you’re insulin resistant, meaning you aren’t able to use the insulin you do produce effectively. A PCOS Diet plan to lose weight can also be extremely beneficial.
If you’re insulin resistant, your body may try to pump out high levels of insulin to keep your blood sugar levels normal.
“Too-high levels of insulin can cause your ovaries to produce more androgens, such as testosterone”.
Insulin resistance may also be caused by having a body mass index above the normal range. Insulin resistance can make it harder to lose weight, which is why women with PCOS often experience this issue.
A PCOS diet works by providing an all-round, holistic balanced diet focusing more on natural ingredients and cutting back on processed or refined foods. By increasing the amount of natural food in your diet, you can help significantly bring down insulin levels thereby serving as an effective solution to insulin resistance.

It may be possible to remove small skin tags at home, however this is a procedure that should only be attempted by an experienced cosmetic dermatologist. Although small skin tags can often be removed by a professional, if one does not take precautions it could cause further problems down the road. The risks of anesthesia are much greater than removing a single skin tag by tweezer or scissors, as the area is still exposed to the open air. Therefore, if one is unable to reach the tag with tweezers, using a medical instrument may prove more useful than trying to remove it with the scissors.
Because some skin tag removal methods involve using needles, one must be very careful about what is put in the body during a procedure. Before having any surgery, the surgeon will carefully examine any other health issues and make sure that the needle can't be passed onto the patient. The needles used for skin tag removal should be sterile, and no anaesthetic should be used. Any needle inserted into the body should be sterilized and not be used for any other purpose. Even if the surgeon is not going to use an anaesthetic, he or she should be very careful to keep the incision clean.
With medical professionals, your goal is to remove the tags with minimal pain. This can be done in many ways. A few options include laser surgery, or even freezing. While these two methods are more expensive, they can often be a more effective way of removing skin tags.
Bucks vaginal tightening cream also includes herbs that will help you with the problem. These herbs can aid in reducing the swelling in the vagina and provide relief from the itching.
Your skin tag removal method may be different than the ones mentioned above. If you have sensitive skin, you may want to consider using a topical lotion instead of using a laser for your skin tag removal. This will not only help to keep the area clean and keep it healthier, but will keep you protected from future infections, as well.

[caption id="attachment_309" align="alignright" width="300"] A chinchilla's teeth are its primary weapon. Even chins that are normally friends can fall out, and bite each other.[/caption]
[caption id="attachment_782" align="alignright" width="225"] Chinchillas can fall and break their bones in tall cages like these.[/caption]
[caption id="attachment_2933" align="alignright" width="300"] There is no replacement for the care of a vet.[/caption]
[caption id="attachment_1691" align="alignright" width="300"] The thickness of chinchilla fur provides some protection against wounds, but can also get in the way of dressings. Image courtesy of © Salix / Wikimedia Commons / CC BY-SA 3.0 & GFDL[/caption]
[caption id="attachment_120" align="alignright" width="300"] Some issues require continued care. Your vet will advise you on how you need to help.[/caption]
[caption id="attachment_113" align="alignright" width="300"] Give your chinchilla a once-over each day to make sure its wound is healing properly.[/caption]
