My first completed art of the new year is the dumb monkey dads, I don't know if I should be proud of that or not lmao Lil family doodle with the monkeys with their chaotic monkey son. And yes they're in their past outfits, and yes this manages to connect to canon show events- It'll make sense later I promise.

Also, you ever notice how big monkey fangs are? Wonder how it'd feel to be bitten by one-- I changed the way I do eyes and decided to try it on these dummies, not sure if I'll continue to use it with them or not. Also this shading was done super fast because I wanna get other stuff done :D Anyway, I hope ya'll have a lovely new year!

I was wanting to try doing an art piece in the style of the signature spell poster art pieces you create. But I’m not really the best at coming up with a composition for such a thing.

Do you have a process for how you come up with the compositions for them?

oh, awesome! it is an INCREDIBLY enjoyable style to work in; I hope you have fun with it! :D

I'm not great at putting my thought/art process into words, so my apologies if this doesn't make a lot of sense, but I'll try! my first step is always to do a LOT of thumbnails to figure out both the idea and how I want to show it; not trying to do a real sketch or anything, just little doodles to figure out what exactly I'm trying to portray. (I also call these "garbage passes" because they're not meant to be any good, they're just there to throw things out. aha. ha. ...anyway.) I think it's important during that first stage to really focus on the idea and the layout and not to get too bogged down in the actual drawing yet!

I tend to save my final thumbnails, so I'll use 'em as examples (I posted the ones up through episode 5 here if you're interested!) (and, uhhh, spoilers through episode 5 also in this post, hopefully that won't be an issue!)

the main thing I try to think about in composition is balance -- not necessarily in terms of symmetry, but in where each element is placed and how much space it's taking up. remember, empty space is still space! it's also really important to think about the parts that don't have anything in them, as much as the parts that do!

personally, I like to divide things up roughly by both halves and by thirds -- there's a lot more in-depth info out there on why the "rule of thirds" in particular works well visually, but in short, our brains tend to focus on things that are placed closer to imaginary division lines, instead of in the exact center of an image. so even when I'm doing something that is very centered and symmetrical, I try to keep that in mind and generally aim around those for landmarks like faces/eyes (or...where they would be, anyway) and other focal points.

it's not a formula of "the character's face should be in this division of this grid" or anything, more like "our minds like to focus on these areas, let's think about how to use that", if that makes sense! and of course rules are made to be broken, art is lawless anarchy, and so on. but it can be a good starting place for deciding where you want to put things!

and against the finished versions, because they do usually end up changing a lot (including the empty space of the border):

other stuff I just try to keep in mind is that our eyes like following arcs and paths, which can be a good way to guide the eye:

honestly, composition is one of those things I feel like I struggle with a lot, so I'm not sure how much of this is helpful or actually makes sense outside of my head. but hopefully it helps a little! it's all just stuff to think about while drawing and not anything hard-and-fast, so don't, like, stress out about making sure things are lining up exactly on the thirds or anything. again, it's more "our brains think these are the dopest parts of the rectangle" than anything else! take advantage of the cool parts of the rectangle!

Lute headcanons.

• Metalhead & likes goth music

• Had an emo phase, obviously, tho she won't admit it

• She's REALLY into music, either listening to it or making it. Adam and her make music together! She can sing and kinda play drums (tho she's a begginer)

• Her favorite bands is Type O negative

•Her favorite colors are black and red

• Super picky eater, and so is Adam

• High IQ, and possibly autistic, she gets told to get tested a LOT but she doesnt want to

• Is SUPER good at make up, she does her eyeliner super fast

• Very very good at strategy games. She's overall very smart and learns fast. The kind of kid to learn how to read super early and then get pissed at other kids because they can't do it

• Super serious most of the time, but the most unhinged mf with Adam because she trusts him deeply. She actually makes almost as much dirty jokes as him when it's just the two of them

• Both bi and homophobic : she was raised in a SUPER religious family and feels attraction to girls but is deeply ashamed of it.

• Had a situationship with Vaggie, but had too much internalized homophobia for it to work. She's SUPER bitter about it

• Pretty interested in mythology

-She's pretty muscular and very strong, she works out a LOT and pretty much all gay exorcists have/had some sort of crush on her (and everyone's aware of it except for herself)

• Wears a band shirt and black sweatpants like 50% of the time when out of uniform

• She would LOVE the Saw movies. They have gore, interesting lore and she'd love to learn about all the traps (she would wanna try them on demons LMAO)

Fallenwings headcanons (sorta)

!!CW interalized homophobia

I don't believe Vaggie and Lute dated. I do think they had something going on though.

To begin with, I think Lute is bisexual, with INSANE. amounts of internalized homophobia and religious guilt. She's plain homophobic, and thinks it's a sin, while ignoring the part of her that likes it. It has been easy at first because she wasn't into ONE specific girl.

But when she started liking Vaggie, everything was way harder. Her feelings were too hard to ignore. She felt genuine physical attraction, to the point where training with her was getting hard. Everything was complicated.

And Vaggie felt this way too. She started flirting with Lute, and even though she felt painfully guilty about it, she gave in.

They kissed a copious amount of times (never in public), slept together almost as much, and genuine feelings were developping for both of them.

But Lute's self hatred was only getting worse, and it was getting in the way. She would rather die than make their relationship official (though let's be honest you'd have to be blind to miss the sexual tension during training), and Vaggie had to constantly remind Lute that it was okay, that it didn't make her a sinner.

She didn't believe it.

She sometimes pushed Vaggie away when she initiated any contact, even chaste and friendly, and got very cold and disgusted to talk to her. Because after all, she's gay.

Vaggie tried to be as understanding as possible, but it was getting too far.

Her and Lute got into an argument.

Vaggie was like "this is stupid, you insist that we hide when we see eachother, you seem uncomfortable and it's clear that you don't really like me SO we should probably just stop". She wasnt that mad just a bit annoyed and sad

Except Lute took it very badly, and got VERY defensive and mad, because Vaggie was right. She got mean and lashed out on her, Vaggie left and they just...stopped talking

Basically, Vaggie thinks Lute used her to "try it with a girl" while Lute had actual feelings, and she HATES Vaggie because she let her see her weaknesses and thinks she's disgusting for making her fall for her!! She was a lesbian after all.

+ She betrayed heaven and it was OVER. It was the proof Lute was waiting for, proof that Vaggie was just a filthy sinner, disgusting, that she deserved to rot in hell, and that Lute's little phase was over, probably a test from God she passed.

Sometimes, Lute still dreams of the filthy sinner, of her sweet words and the warmth of her embrace. She still feels all warm when seeing two girls kiss, she still gets jealous. But she knows better than to indulge in those feelings now, she's a warrior.

How do you pump out drawings so fast???? Full on (hilarious) comics one day after another???? Hella impressive

Cards on the table- I draw slow.

But it's the concerning amount of ✧˖°hyper-focus-ism✧˖° and untold amount of🔥 SPITE🔥 for this game putting my heavily-invested emotions through the WRINGER that fuels me to draw whenever I have the free time to do so. It. Takes a lot to inspire me to draw fanart but apparently all the muses of storytelling decided to hit me over the head with a sledgehammer and told me If I did not tell Greygold's story I would explode so- ✨This is my life now✨

Coincidentally, I INJURED MY DRAWING HAND BADLY and took the opportunity to start Greygold's campaign when the game officially released. I have not been the same after completing it. Lost all rhyme and reason to allow my drawing hand to rest and heal and I have been [painfully slowly] doodling tidbits for the past six months myhandisbetternownoworries.

Half of these comics are already scribbly drawn and super long orz. I've just been-prettying them up a wee bit more now that I see people uh actually enjoy the sillies, aha-ha :'D

The other half of these comics are small and new because you guys inspired me to expand on the silly thoughts~

Did you learn to draw somewhere, or were you self-taught? Maybe you have some tips or hints for beginners? What was your favourite thing about drawing?

it's a mix of both, really! i grew up loving art from the very beginning, like. im talking about making teletubbies fanarts and asking my dad to make me learn to draw characters from w.i.t.c.h. and tomb raider fandsndfs, according to my parents i had a pencil in my hands before i even started talking -- and that's what led me to actually learn to draw "properly", first in a art-centered high school (that. did less than good to me tbf but it was a matter of 90% of the art-related teachers being garbage) and the comics academy in torino where i think i started to truly "understand" what i wanted from my art style

if i may give some advices other than the good ol' "keep practicing and try to at least doodle something once a day", i could go with:

don't compare yourself to other artists negatively, especially those younger than you. it's probably the hardest part, but you need to "force yourself" to be positive. if you find yourself thinking "this 14 years old draws better eyes than me", go with "i love how they draw eyes, let's see if i can learn from it"

copy copy copy copyyyyy!!!!! copy from references, copy from photos, copy from comics, copy from movies. of course don't plagiarize people and then present that stuff as your own, but try to make a pose yours and learn to take pictures of your own hands, feet, face or ask people to pose if you can't find the right position

your art will look like shit to you, a LOT of times, but know that at one point you're going to quit. if you don't like what you're drawing, either quit there or restart, don't try to "fix" it because you'll just end up noticing more and more issues with it - issues that, most of the times, aren't even issues to begin with. letting go of perfectionism is very difficult, but at some point you'll have to do that--

and about perfectionism, a VERY good exercise we did in comics school was being forced to "draw fast". this isn't me telling you you NEED to draw as quick as possible, but it's an exercise that forces you to learn quickly where certain body parts go, to prioritize specific details rather than others. we had a model, and at first we had to sit there for an hour drawing her, then the hour became 30 minutes, then 10, then 5, and at the end 1. it took us a few lessons to do that, but at the end the super sketchy 1 minute copy went from ???? to a stylized human figure!!!

learn to draw realistic anatomy, and then make it your own style.

for the love of god learn prespective it's a bore it's a chore but as soon as you learn that everything becomes SO much easier

for shading, just. put a point in the canvas where the light source is and go from there!! if the light is on the right, the shades will be on the left

if you're coloring, play with the shades' colors. a good idea is to use the opposite color you use for the lights - if the light is yellow, the shades look great in purples, for example just don't use pure black unless you wanna go for a more dark/noir aesthetic oh my god

professional comic artists retrace a lot of their backgrounds. i'm js. use this as you wish :)

learn to draw different body shapes!!!! like getting out of the anime phase of "fat people are just like thin people but with a huge belly" can be difficult, but it's very satisfying

go out of your comfort zone. if you have problems drawing horses, spend a few days learning to draw horses. take some pics and try to understand them.

body proportions are so fun once you realize how so many things are the same. generally speaking, your spread hand is as long as your face, your feet and half the size of your arm; the outer corner of your eye is at the same level of your ear, and the inner corner is perpendicular to your nose and the corner of your mouth; if you leave your arm on your side, your elbow is at the same level of your bellybutton, and your fingers reach halfway your thighs. it's so fun

and yea, i can't stress it enough. it'll take time. art is painful, art is stressful, art can be discouraging. take a step at the time, accept some failures and celebrate any good thing - even the smaller ones. you learned to draw hands today, and you should be proud. i tried to draw a cat for the first time and it looks wonky, but the cat you will draw tomorrow will look better. i believe in you

i kind of just sketch whatever little idea has been stuck in my brain. sometimes it's just some fast and loose sketches about an au that's been on my mind or a doodle of a character/oc/ship. esp for longer projects or commission stints, warmup sketching is just a nice way for me to give some variety in what i'm drawing without committing to a full fledged art piece. and sometimes i come back to finish warmup sketches with proper lineart and color

i have some thoughts about them .

first, them and auri would be childhood besties . very certain of this . i think since they’d probably be in different grades as children, ( assuming solei stays 22 while auri goes up to 23, and is therefore a year ahead of them ) they’d meet pretty early in age .

maybe 2 — 7, but probably at 4 or 5 . i think they’d meet from solei moving into the neighborhood, and being only a few houses away from auri and her brother’s . and probably outside at a park since it solei likes scavenging and auri just likes parks in general .

they’d continue being friends through their lives ( getting closer and closer ? ), though they’d probably have the occasional argument . no friendship is all perfect and sorry solei but i think auri would make you cry at least once .

ill stop here though . . this is getting a bit long and i don’t want to annoy you . ! id love to hear your thoughts as well !

I WAS GONNA DRAW SOMETHING ABOUT MODERN SOLEI AND AURI AAHHH god I have so many wips it's not even funny I am DROWNING

In my stupid little doodle I'd imagine that their first meeting would be similar to their first meeting in the Anakt Garden, where Solei tries to comfort Auri.

Maybe they'd meet when they were very young like 2 or 3, definitely in the park (I find that very cute) and I just love the idea of them being childhood friends !! There's this funny scenario I have where little Solei walks little Auri back to her house at sunset, and when Onyx ( @rockwgooglyeyes ) opens the door Solei happily says " hi mister! is this your kid? :D " and Onyx is like " ????? I'm not even old ???? " 😭

They'd 100% be best friends and walk to school together. I've been having thoughts of that Anakt High School au that the ALNST team likes to draw for fun, and I think that Solei and Auri would walk to school together!! Solei has a bike and would probably encourage Auri to ride on the back of it. They'd usually go slow (and if they're not in a rush) just walk alongside it sometimes, but occasionally if they're feeling silly they'd go super fast on it just to feel the wind on their face. Would Auri be spooked when riding a fast bike or would she be alright with it?? Hahaha I'd love to hear your thoughts

Once they're older, Solei would still frequent their house a lot. I find the "I steal my other sibling's friends and boom instant profit" thing that you guys mentioned super funny LMAO.

They definitely would have arguements, that's inevitable, but Solei isn't a very combative type so they'd try to resolve it (occasionally would give silent treatment though). It's okay that Auri makes Solei cry... that's bound to happen at least a few times in a friendship so long 😞✊

Since I did kinda already share --in that other post-- a light basis of what the CG in Super Sticks would be able to do, you know... I might as well elaborate a bit, yeah? XD

Anyway- Uhmmm

Blue gets illusionary tech [hologram projection stuff, teehee] and leaping armor to jump significantly higher and farther than normal. [+wings]

Red gets flash teleporting; armor that temporarily can alter his very code to move it short distances away, and multiple burst teleports can be done in short succession of each other. Plus extra strength in the form of power punching armor-ey gloves. [+wings] (He does get ahold of dizzy suppressants later to aid with the occasional nausea side effects).

Yellow gets hard light properties: Can create hover platforms, a sword, shielding, and hard light ammo that he can fling fast and far distances. It requires a very powerful source of energy to function, which ends up being a gem in a garage sale that will be found and utilized at one point in the near future. It looked like a lamp decoration jewel and was sold cheaply. Yellow also gets cool googles with many different functions. [+wings]

Green gets durable, very long, coils of string stored in dual arm guns. There are capped sticky ends so when he shoots the string out, the rounded end will catch ahold of a surface and like a grappling hook he can climb and latch onto things. He also gets coded blades on the same arm guns. He cannot use the shooting string and the blade at the same time, they are only interchangeable since both are stored and swappable in the same gun. He may use one gun for shooting string and the other to hold a blade, however. [+wings]

The entire point was to give each quadruplet a main weapon, obviously a set of wings, and then a backup mode of transportation as a fail-safe in case there is wing malfunctions or failures.

These powers may be altered slightly as I get closer to the point of the plot where it is officially stated and explained..? Perhaps? But this is what I have come up with for now. :D

I also want to play on the Team Effort part of the Color Gang's journey in putting together their upgrade costumes.

Blue in his mini-bedroom laboratory, crafting dizzy suppressants for Red. Someone besides Yellow locating that garage sale gem that powers the hard light tech.

Everyone gets a major opportunity to assist in the full-scale construction of their hero-ing equipment.

It's not all just "Yellow builds everything and his siblings kinda assist him", no. They really work together to bring Second's birthday gift to its completion.

I can't share everything that happens, but this is where you can expect the story to go. :D

Now Purple-y Wurple-y over here, is gonna be a surprise. >:3

My apologies on the super messiness of it, I tend to draw cats. I might doodle some more, but this was my ref.

Anyways, my version of Y/N! I read with my name, but I'm going to call her Nautilus because it's easier.

OKAYBOKAY SO originally I had her with, like, brown "hair". Because me. But then I was like, "that doesn't make sense because she's underwater" so I made her have purplish hair.

I think I remember reading that she had some bioluminescence??? In, like, the first chapters or something, but maybe it was her talking about how she knows other Mers who have that, but not to the extent od Sun/Moon.

ANYWAYS so she has bioluminescent freckles scattered about her body, but primarily on her face. Her fins, which are a dark dark blue, can somewhat splay out and have bio markings on them.

I imagine they're incredibly bright, and form swirling patterns, and maybe eyes on her ear fins? To scare off predators and such. I just really like glowing things, lmaoo.

Her eyes, if you squint, went through a few different colors;

First was a darker blue (similar to mine irl). I scrapped this immediately because it's not exactly realistic on a fish.

Then I went with a bright yellow-amber. Then scrapped THAT because it didn't fit right (imo)

Then there was bright green, but I still didn't like it.

So then I FINALLY looked up deep sea eye colors, and the unanimous answer was a pale, milky blue. So that's the color I settled on.

Back to colors: I chose a dark blue/purple palette because (A) I like those colors and (B) I think they're more realistic for underwater. Because camouflage, y'know?

I know that it was mentioned several times (?) that her scales dulled while in the aquarium, so I made a diluted version, too I just made a layer of grayish over it lmao

Okay uh so headcanon time I guess??

-- Nautilus used to flash her bio marks to show off in her pod. She had some of the brightest, and she took pride in that.

-- She often would keep her hair up. Be it buns, ponytails, or braids. Her sisters, grandmother, and great-grandmother would often play with it.

-- Eldest of five (all sisters), Naut was often in charge of babysitting. She became quite good at it, and would often babysit the pups in her pod.

-- In doing so, she amassed a GIANT collection of shells. She treasured all of them.

-- Her initial hesitance towards Vanessa was slightly thawed because the blonde reminded her of her oldest-younger sister, Anemone, a pale mer with yellowish "hair".

-- She had a pet Leaf Sheep when she was a pup. Screw reality, I'm going to say they live longer than a year. When it died, she was heartbroken.

-- After Petal (she was not original with names back then) died, she adopted an Oarfish. His name is Titan. He is very much alive. She misses him desperately.

-- Absolutely will talk Sun and Moon's ear off about him. They originally thought he was a suitor or something.

-- If they ever make it to her old home or pod, Titan will be there. Sun and Moon will be scared shitless. Titan will come up, check 'em out, then immediately go curl around Nautilus. He's a giant sweetheart.

-- If they DON'T ever get home, Titan will eventually find them, and the above will occur

-- Look I just want my mer to have a pet sue me

-- Anyways, speaking of Vanessa: I like to imagine she'd have a more gold sheen to her (eventual) scales. Which causes Naut to be even MORE attached.

greetings once again: a little update... now where are my soccer fans at? ⚽👀

hey y'all, nia here, it's been months since i posted... would you like to hear a story? not sure if this is going to last but i may be a soccer/football fan now... or at the very least feeling nostalgic for it. it's quite funny because i was never interested in soccer myself, but i do have fond memories of experiencing the world cup hype where i live, and i remember having a few soccer fans in my neighborhood. part of this story has something to do my growing interest in german culture over the past few years. i'll tell you about that as well in another time. so, i was 10 years old when germany won the world cup last time, and while i wasn't actively following the games, i did remember the 7-1 semifinal becoming a meme and hearing götze's name every so often in the news back then... (10-year-old me had almost no idea why he was in the news, lol) also, i remembered seeing those winner group photos where the all the goalkeepers wore that one (ugly but catchy) shade of green. fast forward to this year and a couple months ago i had the chance to watch the euros with my german friends. it was my first soccer watch party in years and it was my first time watching soccer with my close friends :) so as i was watching the games i noticed that along a bunch of new names in germany's team, there were a few familiar names from 10 years ago: müller and kroos (and that time i had no idea and i certainly didn't think for once that this would be their last tournament as a team) but one name stood out to me more than others: manuel neuer. 🧤 i guess my friends were all nostalgic for him since they would occasionally talk about him and recall his many achievements, joke about him a lot so that he became a bit of a meme among my friend circle, and at that point he instantly became my favorite goalkeeper. (plus, he looks super cute too...🥺)

yeah i have to admit, for a moment i may have gone crazy for him (he certainly looks older now but i kid you not, i would yell his name every time he appeared on camera during the euros, silly me) here comes the sad part though: 10 years is quite a long time in a soccer player's career, and it seems a lot of them have retired or are retiring due to their age, so it may come as a surprise for some that some of the old gang from the world cup 10 years ago were still playing in the euros. with the last players from back then - including the lovely keeper neuer himself - having announced their retirement from the german team by the time i started writing this post, the days of the world cup winners are pretty much over. god, i feel old every time i see photos of germany's world cup team this year's euros have left me with some beautiful memories, and made me a new soccer fan who's also nostalgic for the world cup champions. so, as a homage to this goalkeeper and the Weltmeister of 2014 i started a new tumblr blog where i would mostly repost german soccer stuff from the past years and maybe throw in some original content as well. @neuerstalgia - come check it out if you want ^_^ and, i said i would bring more content to my main, but i have to admit i wasn't being very productive these days. and it's not like i don't have anything to show - rather the opposite - i have been making stuff for my page but i often leave them unfinished, to the point where i just have too many drafts lying around. but i'll be a responsible citizen and finish them all 'cause i sure do have a lot of things and ideas i'd like to show to you. 💛 in other words, i'll try to spend more of my time publishing content to my blog. i've got a list of what i'd like to post here, but i don't want to spoil the surprise. but i'll tell you, it's going to be interesting :D so, i end the day by listening to a german song. look forward to more posts, doodles and reblogs from me and hope you all have a pleasant evening.

First off- thank you so much! I truly appreciate it. And second- oh my goodness I am so sorry for how long this ask has sat in my inbox! I hope some of this can still help you :’D

As far as software goes, I’m almost exclusively working in procreate as of late. There’s plenty of great programs- if you need something free and desktop based, I highly recommend Krita. I have a few brushes from different packs that I often default to. You can see them all and links to said packs through this answer I gave to someone asking about my brushes earlier:

As far as detail in my work goes, that’s just through a loooot of practice and doodles and drawings. I’ve been drawing since I could pick up a pencil, so I’ve had a lot of time to figure out the way I like to do things- but even then I have so much to learn!

I do, however, work in many traditional forms of media as well! I haven’t done so as much lately since digital doesn’t require cleanup, but I honestly believe that working in traditional for my entire life up until 5 or so years ago has a hand in how I approach things digitally as well. I’ve done pen and marker illustration, pencil and colored pencil, acrylic painting, as well as 3D work. I’ve worked in a lot of media and I want to get around to trying as much as I can when I have the energy to! If you have questions specifically about what traditional media I use or work with let me know!

When it comes to improving on rendering, doing small studies of images you really like the lighting in helps a lot for me. Learning how to break light in a photo down to simple, blocky shapes helps to figure out getting an initial layer down to refine later when doing full pieces! When rendering a character, especially if drawing something that isn’t in a scene, I always recommend marking out the direction the light is coming from as well as color of the light before even starting, so that you can determine where highlights and shadows would be placed in an initial blockout. Keep in mind there’s different kinds of light in a piece- I would recommend looking into tutorials about direct light, indirect light, reflected light, etc to get a better feel for how it works- while I do my best, I don’t think I am quite skilled enough to explain those nuances.

When approaching most textures, especially unfamiliar ones, references are my best friend always. It might be a good idea to just do test sheets/practice making the textures that would be useful to you on occasion! And in the end, textures also tie into lighting as well, since a lot of what makes textures super distinct is how light hits them, especially when it comes to things like metal. It may be a bit of a hot take, but in a lot of cases I tend to avoid a lot of digital texture/object brushes, especially those meant to simulate natural textures like leaves, and I do those textures manually instead. I just personally like having more control over those shapes and feel it looks better when each texture is made intentionally by hand! Sometimes I do use texture brushes especially for backgrounds, abstract work or subtle layers, especially if I’m working on something very fast, but it’s not my first choice. However I do know there’s plenty of artists who use texture brushes in ways that look great, so that’s just personal preference. :)

I think the biggest thing is to just take things slow -- digital art feels different than drawing traditionally, and it's SUPER easy to get overwhelmed by the billions of cool features that the digital world offers. (I say, as someone who spends a lot of time downloading cool brushes and textures...and then never using them ever.) there is a ton of really cool stuff you can do digitally, but because there's so much, I think it's really important to take time to figure out what is and isn't working for you. spend some time doodling without any intent to do a finished piece, figure out how you like to hold (or not hold) your tablet, what keyboard shortcuts you end up using a lot (and therefore might want to map to your pen/tablet buttons for quicker use)...that kind of thing!

everyone's workflow and preferred program and style are different, so it's hard to give hard-and-fast general advice. but the things that I think of as the essentials for learning digital art programs, and what I think of as a good order to focus on learning them in (although YMMV, especially depending on what kind of art you're doing):

brush customization (e.g. flow, opacity, softness)

layers and layer masks

selections and transformations (e.g. scale, rotate, flip horizontal/vertical, skew) (skew is underrated and I will die on that hill)

blending modes (e.g. multiply, screen)

adjustments/adjustment layers (e.g. hue/saturation, curves)

and I think most stuff after that is gravy! often very good gravy though! but yeah, as overall advice I recommend just taking things one little bit at a time, spending some time just drawing and messing around with each feature and what you can do with it. whether or not you end up incorporating any of it into your workflow, it's always good to try things out and just see how they feel! :D

and just so there is at least a little more concrete helpfulness in here, here's a few more specific things that I think are super important to keep in mind!

use! your! tablet/pen buttons! I mentioned this earlier, but they are extremely useful for keyboard shortcuts that you use often! most programs will also let you create new shortcuts for other things -- personally, I use the magic wand tool to fill in big color blocks a lot, so I made shortcuts for 'expand selection' and 'fill' and then mapped them to my tablet buttons.

flop your work horizontally often! when you're working on something, you get used to the way it looks, so seeing it mirrored is a quick way to see it with fresh eyes! in my experience, it often feels like this:

(a common thing is to find that everything is sort of 'leaning' too much one way, which is where skew really comes in handy!) (seriously, I love skew, it is my savior)

if you're working with color, keep a hue/saturation adjustment layer (or a layer filled with black or white and set to Color) on top and toggle it on occasionally to check your values! a lot of people who know a lot more about color than me (and are better at putting it into words) have written about why values are so important, so all I'll say is that the rule of thumb is that your image should still be readable in greyscale:

there are some exceptions and grey areas (do ho ho), but it's a good general rule to keep in mind! (some programs also have a colorblind mode, so you can check to see how your work will look to someone with colorblindness!)

strawberry: before getting together, how did your F/O realize they had a crush on you? How did they act around you once they realized they were head over heels?

Korosensei has had like multiple moments when he realized just how much he liked Usagi, but the time when he realized he had like a crush crush on her, like school girl laying on her stomach on her bed kicking her feet and doodling hearts in her diary level was when they were helping their students practice for their baseball exhibition match. Usagi was just sitting on the sidelines just in case anybody needed medical assistance, but then she had suddenly got roped into being an umpire for them lol, and then after she complemented Sugino on his baseball skills and saying she could never be able to play baseball, he encouraged her to try hitting the ball, because "You'll never know you're good at something until you try!"

The thing is Korosensei is the one that's throwing the ball, and he's throwing it fast. And he's also distracting her by using a clone of his to trash talk and poke at her. After a few tries, shes getting annoyed and embarrassed, but finally on her fourth try, she hits the ball all the way out of the park with a loud, satisfying 'CRACK', and she accidentally flings herself a little too far forward and stumbles, and her helmet falls off and she looks on in shock at the fact that she actually hit the ball. The students are cheering for her while she bashfully accepts the praise, and then Korosensei is just looking at her from across the field, with her slightly disheveled helmet hair and her sweat shining in the afternoon sun, her determined and then bashful expressions playing back in his mind and he's just like "......WAIT AM I ACTUALLY GETTING FLUSTERED???" lololol he thinks she's super cool he's like her number one fan <3

After that, he acts kind of like how he normally does around her, kind and silly, eating lunch together, having a little jokey banter and earnest talks, along with becoming a bit more flustered or embarrassed at times, and he also feels... kind of bad about it? He just doesn't want to hurt her by inevitably having to leave, but he also doesn't want to hurt her by pushing her away because they're already good friends :(

nectarine: do you and your F/O live together? If so, what does your living space look like?

Modern AU Myce and Laios don't live together, but they do visit each other's places a lot, so they do end up leaving some of their things behind (accidentally and/or on purpose). Myce has some of Laios's hoodies and t-shirts in her closet, and has a good few pieces of monster memorabilia around her room that were gifts from him, and Laios had a few small potted plants from Myce sitting on his windowsill that he tried to keep alive (keyword: tried. the ones that didn't die were relocated to the kitchen where Falin was the one to start looking after them. Even though Myce understood why, he still felt really bad about it, so she helped him feel better by getting him a few succulents to take care of instead), and he has a few of her books on his shelf that she either lent to him or accidentally left behind.

When it comes to professions in Sun Haven ... she is explorer and farmer, she loves growing things! And she loves running and zooming around places! :D
