hey everyone!

just a quick and friendly reminder about the upcoming mayhem on the strip games. we’ve got 36 spots open across 6 different games, each with 6 to 8 spots available. both team captains have been working hard, both ic and ooc, to make sure everyone is aware of the sign-ups and the chance to get involved. keep in mind, no one can be in more than one game, so there are plenty of chances for everyone to participate. if the captains are repeating names, it’s only because some people didn’t sign up!

we understand it can be easy to miss a message or two, but both team captains have been, again, super active about this, both ic and ooc, so there’s been lots of chances to sign up. we’d love for everyone who wants to participate to get their spot. so, if you’re interested, jump in before it’s too late! there’s no room for complaints if you didn’t respond to the sign ups ic or ooc.

please understand, this is rp—it’s meant to be fun, and no matter what, your experience is what you make of it. we’re all about inclusion and giving everyone the chance to be part of something cool, but we can’t force anyone to join in or hold hands to ensure everyone has a good time. your involvement and attitude will shape how much you get out of it.

we’ve worked hard to create something new and exciting, but at the end of the day, it’s up to each of you to dive in and make the most of it. we’re here to support, but your rp experience is yours to create. remember, it’s about all of us coming together to try something new, different, and fun with our characters in silly situations outside of the usual ring or party scene.

let’s be honest, there are only so many proms, dances, and other typical events we can do before they start to feel repetitive. this is a chance to shake things up and get creative! everyone’s effort truly matters, and the more we all get involved, the better and more exciting this event will be for everyone. it’s a fresh way to engage, and your participation helps keep it fun and lively!

we’ll have a post going up late friday night / saturday morning, where we’ll re-announce everything in small, bite-sized pieces for easy reference. remember the rules, and feel free to start making plot posts after that announcement is posted. even though the event is canonically two days, we’re going to leave things open for a week, so everyone has plenty of time to write, post, and participate without feeling overwhelmed. we want to make sure everyone who wants to get involved has the chance!

Heyyyy it's me, the actual owner of this blog and creator of back alley bard (you can call me box :3 I use he/they pronouns with a HUGE preference for the he as opposed to the they) here to drop some INFORMATION and GROUND RULES for this blog.

Any attempts to start NSFW rp will be ignored, this blog’s lore is that it's a band’s social media so none of the lads will be having e sex on main.. Or at all, really. Ok that's all my boundaries/rules, onto the fun bit! Actual info on what this blog actually is and how it works.

As summarised by the bio back alley bard is a fictional (somewhat punk) rock band I created and are my ocs. They are not a real band and I have no plans to make them the next Gorillaz or Yaelokre - I do still plan to publish something big about them though!

This blog is an experimental side project to me for now so all asks are limited to just Tobi (he/they) BUT if I like doing this you guys unlock full band perms. Should mention though, this doesn’t mean I won’t show them or have tobi give any information about the band. Do with this what you will.

My main goal with this is to get people familiar with Back Alley Bard so that when I get around to really working on my goals for it I’ll have a substantial amount of people to back me up for it. Also because its a fun way to put a bit more meat on the bones of the lads (and practice drawing them)

i could ramble at length about my personal characterization preferences, but at the end of the day they’re just that: my own personal preferences. a show as long-running—and with such a loose approach to continuity—as sp has naturally lent itself to a wide range of interpretations over the years, and I think that variety is all part of the fun.

my general advice on writing any character is to rewatch their content and focus on what it is that you find interesting about their personalities and relationship dynamics. putting on a youtube compilation of their scenes before you start writing can be helpful for keeping character voices fresh in your mind, and an old rp trick that’s easy to pull off for minor characters is to throw all their dialogue together in a google doc for easy reference. these techniques aren’t for everyone, of course, but some like having a convenient source to draw from when they’re starting out and feeling shaky.

sp is also a lot like comic books in the sense that even when something is canon, it isn’t really canon (they’re still inconsistent on some character names even decades into the show, for example, and plenty of episodes directly contradict each other). there’s no making everything work within a single story, so don’t be afraid to pick and choose which events “count” for the one you’re trying to tell.

finally—and i realize this is going to sound silly in the context of a post like this—try not to take bad faith advice to heart. characterization discourse in the fandom tends to be pretty reductive, with people boiling characters down to a single (often extreme) trait. we’re lucky in that tweek and craig are richly characterized for a couple of background kids, with a lot of different strengths and weaknesses to pull from. i’d hate to see anyone discouraged from taking that potential to its fullest, which is why i’m being intentionally vague in this whole response. there’s no One True Correct way to write them, and for the most part, having characters behave in internally consistent ways is going to be more effective than toeing the line of any particular hc.

in short? have fun and explore what makes the characters compelling to you and you can’t go wrong.

Side Stories and the Warrior of Light’s Integration

Was thinking and wondering about the upcoming trial series, that I don’t think we’ve had any hints at really as to what it’s going to be, and reflecting again that the biggest problem I believe Sorrow of Werlyt has in its “bones of a good story but lacking in execution” was how it not only decentered the WoL but made the PC superfluous to the narrative entirely. It’s also a reason why the final tier of YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse as a crossover with FFXIV falls flat, in my opinion.

FFXIV has done a good job overall of taking our silent protagonist, and even with Assumed Default WoL (since this is an MMO that can’t do multiple options the way a single player game can), the connection folks feel to their own OCs is often very real, due to how the main narrative centers the WoL and hinges upon their actions and relationships with the NPC cast. The RP duties where the player takes on a NPC for a time helps branch it out a little and makes what would otherwise be a summary or long cutscene interactive, but those are brief asides. The MSQ is the WoL’s hero story, and many of the side stories follow the same vein by at least keeping the WoL as an active and necessary participant even when another character is the story focal point.

Spoilers for various side content below.

The loose idea of the trials in ARR patches is further investigation of Ascians pushing the tribes to summon more powerful versions of the primals the WoL’s already fought, so WoL’s investigation of those escalations is front and center; especially for Ifrit, where a still-recovering-from-2.0-MSQ Thancred can’t go into the field himself yet, so WoL has to do the heavy lifting. Coils of Bahamut and Crystal Tower also have the WoL involved, interacting with the NPCs, forming bonds with the other central characters in the plot, investigating, creating items to get past defenses, and so on. We’re doing more than just the fighting, we’re part of the team. The Coils story has a direct impact on Alisaie’s development, and her friendship with and admiration of WoL really starts here (please play Coils story, it’s easy now to desync and roll it as a 90 solo, or get high level friends to run one through, and does affect almost all of Alisaie’s dialogues on her return to MSQ in 3.4).

Same in the Heavensward stories; in Alexander, WoL is part of a team with Y’shtola and the Ironworks; making friends with Mide and Roundrox, helping them, is essential to the story. Actions in the plot center WoL and their comrades in the mystery and time shenanigans. In Warring Triad, again WoL is part of a Scion research team figuring out how to deal with the eikons, while interacting directly with Unukalhai and Regula the entire time. We feel Regula’s sacrifice for the youth, and see his sense honor, twisted as it is by Imperial doctrine. There’s a reason Regula, for the very brief time he has on screen, is one of the more popular and lamented as lost-too-soon Garlean antagonists. Folks were interested in our little buddy Unukalhai and pleased he got more story in the Void Quests in ShB finally. Meanwhile, WoL is also off adventuring with the sky pirates to investigate the Shadows of Mhach; they treat WoL as a member of the crew, sharing info, bringing them in on tense meetings with the rival, letting WoL hang out at their base.

In Stormblood, we get drug into helping Cid’s old school friend and realizing his dream of the truth of Ivalice; there is a LOT going on with that story, and there are moments where it doesn’t land for folks because it’s such a huge reference-fest to Tactics and FFXII that sometimes WoL does get lost among the rest, but overall it’s the WoL’s interactions with Ramza that help him get past his adolescent upset and back to focusing on his family, WoL who supports Alma, WoL who meets with Fran and gets the rebels’ cooperation, WoL who deals with the Dramaturge and his wife’s silly requests. Four Lords, meanwhile, works right off the MSQ and Alphinaud’s little error with the checkbook, WoL agreeing to Soroban’s offer of adventure and treasure, and upon meeting the auspices, becomes integral to helping Soroban’s new training and not just fighting the Lords, but also listening to their stories, letting them shed their long-held burdens. It’s necessary for the WoL to help them finally grieve their friend, and in the finale, though it’s a cutscene, WoL still has a place and role. Omega likewise has the WoL as part of another Ironworks research team, and as the bot takes out other members of that team, WoL has to do a bit more work they’d normally aid Cid with. Making friends with Alpha is again essential here, letting the little birb self-actualize in a way Omega cannot (yet?).

In Shadowbringers, Eden gets it mostly right. The 8man raid series, much like Coils, is a wrap-up of MSQ and directly related to past events (Coils is more related to 1.0, but still). We work specifically with a Scion team again, and forming connections and memories with Gaia is essential to the story. The WoL’s experiences with the primals is also central for the majority of it, and it all ties back in, too, with our Ascian antagonists. Even the Bozja Resistance storyline, building off the Ivalice raids and the friendships formed there, makes sure the WoL is an active participant, enough that the major NPC betrayal fairly early on stings a good deal. I mentioned the role and follow-up Void Quest earlier, and again, the non-combat connections WoL makes with those characters, how the PC investigates the Virtues, interacts with the hunters and the boys, everything with Cylva, relies on the WoL as a person, not just a combatant.

Throughout, even stories like Hildibrand keep the WoL an active participant in the story. While the Inspector’s quests focus on his antics, WoL is a part of his team alongside Nashu. WoL still interacts with all the other NPCs, handles investigative tasks, and only occasionally has to fight something the others cannot. We’re along for the ride, but also nudging it on its course.

YoRHa seemed to start off well enough in that same vein; the WoL’s interactions with the dwarves are a big part of the story, and being able to explore the raid zones and bring back documentation as clues to what’s going on felt good. I loved having quests during the off-patches to give more story and characters. But in the end…Anogg runs away, there’s a confusing mystery as to what happened to her and when, and then she apparently meets 2B and 9S and helps revive the latter all off-screen. The weekly follow-ups with rebuilding the town go well while seem to be building to a problem with Glagg that just…goes away on its own, no help from WoL needed. Meanwhile the twins just vanish with the WoL left in the empty room. All so Dark Apocalypse can be part of the greater NieR storyline, with its cameo in FFXIV being just a confusing aside that the FFXIV characters never get even minor resolution on in-universe.

And in Werlyt…the WoL is superfluous. Literally only shows up to fight the weapons, maybe have an Echo vision of some things that set it up, and that’s…it. You could replace WoL with an advanced Ironworks defense mechanism and nothing changes. We actually meet most of the kids only once (and the first girl not at all) outside of their weapons. All of the major character interactions happen elsewhere, in “meanwhile” scenes WoL and Team Gaius aren’t present for. WoL never even meets the primary antagonist nor sees him in those Echoes; he’s Gaius’ villain—barely—and while that Diamond finale scene is well-done, WoL isn’t part of it. A lot happens with Gaius and his team becoming part of Terncliffe, helping Werlyt, the struggles with this former conqueror now working with the rebels…all offscreen. Summarized and informed. We just show up, fight a weapon, get to pilot the G-Warrior once, and then go back to other WoL business. We’re watching the story—and there’s a lot of cutscenes that run long that we just watch—but our character isn’t really part of it.

And it’s frustrating because the elements of a good tragic mecha anime story are there. The concept of Gaius examining his past beliefs and working toward change in himself (while never expecting others’ forgiveness) is there. There’s a lot going on in Werlyt, perhaps a bit too much, and along the way, the WoL, the game’s protagonist and the player POV character, is entirely lost in the shuffle and relegated to the side in a way they aren’t usually in these stories. Even when other side stories focus on specific characters, like Mide and Roundrox, or Ryne and Gaia, The Four Lords, or the Lexentales, the WoL’s interactions with them, the help we offer outside of combat scenarios, is integral to those characters resolving their issues. We never get the chance with the weapon pilots, and in the end, I’m still wondering what and how exactly did Team Gaius learn from the WoL when we just show up now and again long enough to fight the next weapon and leave right away while actual story events happen elsewhere outside the characters’ POVs.

So far in Endwalker, I am optimistic with Pandaemonium and Aglaia; the first tiers of each have gone well enough, and WoL’s interactions with the characters is so far forefront. We’ll see what comes in the next series as the 6.x patches continue forward with new ideas and stories.

EDIT: And as of 6.5 and the end of the raid stories...Yeah. Panda and Myths both centered WoL in interesting ways, with Panda relying on the stable time loop and the friendships forged with Themis/Elidibus, and then Erich, and even our renewed understanding of Lahabrea and bringing it all back to the Heart of Sabik and Athena’s obsessions, which became fixed on WoL. Myths had the Twelve decide that with Hydaelyn and Zodiark gone, they could enact their own retirement plan and who better than Her Champion to aid them? And the friendship with WoL, the other Baldesion pals, and a baby monkey, were pivotal to the climax, and it’s WoL there all the way to the end. The trial series for Endwalker ended up as part of the MSQ, and so of course WoL is central there, working with the other Scions to teach Zero how to remember to be a real person again. Even so far in the Tataru quest line and in Hildibrand again, it’s the WoL’s connections to people across the star and actions as part of the agents’ team that matters. Even Island Sanctuary’s minimal plot is all about giving the WoL a vacation project to work on and others coming to visit them for fun!

So yeah. Keeping WoL involved not just for combat and the handy Echo, actually having pivotal moments happen onscreen and that WoL is simply present for--even if just as moral support!--go a long way to making the stories feel more involved, make more sense, and gives it a better chance of hitting the desired emotional resonances, as the players are then able to care about the NPCs, the the story, and how their WoLs fit in.

This was so fucking sweet thank you so so much!! I actually think that would be a wonderful addition, because I think it’s important for people to see how we’re affected in different ways. Fandom doesn’t get hardly any attention outside of fandom itself (at least not much positive attention), so someone coming in from the outside doesn’t have these years of understanding that we do, or can identify how mundane situations can be affected.

I don’t have much rp experience but I’m fascinated by that connection people develop with characters, and you worded it really well! I still feel a lot of shame for sharing stuff like this but I think it’s important to be honest about the things that other people might not have a frame of reference for. And yeah, I still feel kinda silly over the self-shipping thing because I never know what people think of me for it, and I imagine the same thing can apply to people like you that experience a comfort character in a different context. But people have largely turned their backs on us already, so we only have each other and I know sharing personal stuff like this can make a difference to someone else.

mostly? i don’t know i’ve never been center of drama before. i’ve only ever known 3 or 4 ppl who have been involved in any kind of drama before but it has been over something super stupid twice. i don’t have the energy for drama so i try to stay away from it as much as i can.

it depends, really. do me wrong HEAVILY and chances are i won’t ever forget, that’s one of the things i hate about myself. i am still working on that bit. but if i am mad at you bc of something silly, give it a day or two and we’re good.

All The Nothing You Want

At one point, I had an ambition to write a big ol’ post-mortem on my FFXIV Write 2020 experience. It was my first time partaking in something like that and, fresh off it, I had a lot of thoughts about it. Now we’re a week and a day out from it, and I’m at work, and I’m tired, and man, I just can’t remember things like I used to. 

Also, like... It seems kinda silly to write a post-mortem on a challenge that I didn’t engage all that thoroughly with. I’m certainly proud of the output I did have, don’t get me wrong, but you can definitely tell the point where I lost steam. So, I guess, let’s start there. What happened?

The first week and a half of the challenge were great for me. I struggled with a few of the prompts, but it was a good struggle; the sort that makes you stretch your legs a little and test your boundaries. About 12 days in, some sorta real life stuff cropped up (and largely, not even my stuff) and it seemed like it was time to take a break. Just a day or two, plus I could make it up on Sunday, right?

As much as I had enjoyed having a steady reason to write again—something I hadn’t done in years, since college, really—the allure of taking a break was really, really seductive. I write Evander as having some pretty gnarly executive dysfunction, so it’s probably not a surprise to anyone that I struggle with ADHD. It’s definitely a case of “write what you know,” for me, even if very little of his life beyond that makes sense to me. I don’t think this is uniquely or wholly an ADHD experience, but I bet it’s familiar to a lot of people with ADHD brains: Sometimes, nothing feels better than taking a break. Even when it’s something you’ve been happily plugging away at, something you’ve been looking forward to every day, it just feels so good to let yourself ignore it for a day. And then after that, it’s just two days. And then... I stopped writing around the 12th prompt. I picked it back up on the 17, and stuck it out until the 20th. Then I fell off until the final, 30th prompt, which... I actually really liked that one. I felt like it was a pretty strong finish for me, and it worked out just wonderfully that it tied back perfectly to another piece I had already written. I wish I’d been more diligent, but I can’t say I regret the writing I didn’t do. Even without a great daily habit, I think the challenge helped me stretch my legs, encouraged me to RP more, to collaborate with people and read just an absolute wealth of great material from people I both knew well and not at all. Most importantly, it helped me find some joy in writing regularly again. Maybe if I’m lucky, or can manage to make it a priority, I can even hang onto that until the next writing challenge. We’ll see. In a way, that’s me in a nutshell: I started strong, took a break and then just settled down comfortably in the alluring embrace of comfortable inertia, and in the end, things were fine. Coulda done better, but I don’t mind.

So then the challenge ended, but oddly enough, the break from the challenge didn’t. I wasn’t kidding when I referred to it as “alluring” and “seductive.” My favorite Calvin & Hobbes strip famously reads “There’s never enough time to do all the nothing you want.” It’s made it hard to get back into tumblring, into being a tumblrer, one who tumbls, but I’m going to work on that. I’m going to quit taking that break (or maybe just take a break from it, who can say) and tackle the drafts and asks and tags and mentions and inboxes and whatnot that I put aside a little over a month ago.  Then... I dunno. I’ll write some more. That was fun and cathartic, turns out. I guess I forgot that at some point. Maybe I’ll go back and finish the prompts I didn’t for this challenge. Maybe I’ll hunt down prompt lists for the previous years and see if anything looks fun. Maybe I’ll collaborate on some fun stuff with some of my wonderful friends. Maybe I’ll make some new ones. Hey, maybe we should RP.

Basics

Due to the potential mature content of this group, we are only accepting mums that are 18+, though 21+ plus is preferred. As sexual content is allowed, it would be illegal as well as put everyone involved at risk for minors to participate in NSFW content, even on the Internet.

There is a Discord server for OOC chatting and other things that don’t involve RPing. Upon acceptance, you will receive an invite to the server.

Content

This is a mature, literate RP. Cursing, smut, graphic violence, etc is allowed. However, sexual violence of any nature is not allowed nor should it be played out on the dash. You may allude to it in your character’s background very briefly, but do not be detailed about it. Predatory characters who have committed such acts will be declined. Pedophilia and incest are strictly prohibited, both in backstory and on dash.

Smut or anything that would be considered triggering to others will need to be placed under Read More and tagged appropriately.

As stated, we are a literate RP. One, two and three liners are not allowed. We’re all writers here, looking to have fun and create an interesting, enjoyable story together. We aren’t asking you to write a novella, though that isn’t unwelcome. Just give your RP partners something to respond to. Likewise, grammar, punctuation, spelling, etc all need to be as correct as you can possibly make it.

Application and Characters

You may create your own character, as this is going to mostly be an OC Rp, but there will be a handful of readily available characters for you to apply for.

If applying for an already made character and you wish to change something about their sheet, do let us know when applying, and we will discuss it in private. For the most part, any change you want to make can be negotiated.

This is a fantasy RP in an entirely new setting. Keep that in mind when creating your OC. Refer to this map when deciding where your character is from. You are free to create any details about their birthplace if you wish, but that is not necessary.

Please make sure your characters are diverse. Different ethnicities, gender identities, weight, sexual orientation, and differently abled. Real life is multifaceted, and everyone is different from one another.

When applying for your character, make sure you submit a small, three para sample IC.

Do not make a character blog until after your application is accepted.

Do not post until we have posted your follow.

Once we’ve announced your acceptance, you have 48 hours to make your character blog and respond so that we make your follow post.

Once you’re accepted and ready to RP, you must respond to 3 starters before posting your own. You are allowed to post 1 open starter and 2 exclusive starters every day.

The starting character limit is four. After two weeks, you may apply for your fifth character, and after another week, you may apply for your sixth and final character. When applicable, you may play an NPC.

Interactions and Posts

Be inclusive and make sure to rp with everyone at some point. Make everyone feel welcome. No one likes to feel left out, and exclusion is just kinda rude.

OOC drama is not allowed. If anyone has issues with another person, deal with it on your own time and keep it out of the rp. If need be, ask us at main for assistance and we will be happy to help sort any issue out.

IC drama is, however, allowed and encouraged. Just make sure it has nothing to do with your own personal feelings towards the roleplayer. Just be respectful towards each other.

Cut posts when they get too long. We don’t want to flood the page with long posts. Keep it at most three replies long.

Gifs are not necessary, but they are encouraged. The gifs must be of your character’s face claim or a faceless gif.

Activity Check

We would like for our members to be as active as possible. Of course, we understand that life tends to get in the way, and things happen that require more attention than a silly little role play. That being said, an activity check will take place every Sunday between 8pm to 10pm, Central Time UTC. A warning will be posted, and the users will have 72hrs to make an IC post.

If they fail to do so within 72hrs, another warning will be posted. By the next activity check, they will be required to reapply for their character.

If you know that you’re going to be absent for a length of time, do let us know, and we will be lenient with your absence for at least a month before reaching out to you.

Account of Resistance Fighter Saltybug - Hive Mind Bad Ending Metafic

A/N: Please be aware that this is a fictionalized account of my RP experiences during Hive Mind. If it sounds too harsh or serious... well, that’s just my character. It’s not real, and I don’t mean to offend anyone. I know some people got upset or didn’t care for the content during the whole thing, but again, I mean no harm. It’s just a bit of fun.

One of the bunker doors swings open. The contents inside are empty. All of the resistance’s rooms seem sparse, you realize. But this one has been occupied up until not too long ago.

Still curious, you step inside.

There’s a book sitting on a desk. The cover is a plain brown. You skim through the pages and see someone’s handwriting.

It appears to be a diary.

Something... strange is happening around here. 

All sorts of people have been contacting @nobodyfamousposts about joining the Hive. What was once a story has now become reality. And all sorts of people have been inducted into this cult. 

Yeah, I don’t like this. 

I don’t think I have much to worry about though. It’s not as if people are going to be directly targeting me. If I say nothing, I’d probably be nothing more than a ghost. Wouldn’t even register as a blip on the Hive’s radar.

...

...Maybe I should look for a bunker or something, just in case. Somewhere extreme and with uninviting weather.

I’ve managed to find some locations with pretty extreme weather conditions. Places like [redacted]. I also considered somewhere up in [redacted] but I hate the cold. Winter just ended and I just started pulling out my spring/summer clothes! I don’t want to have to take it all out again! Ugh, this is so inconvenient, but whatever. I’m still not a target and I could probably get away safely.

Still, I have a good variety of locations that the Hive will never touch. I hope. At the very least, it’d be a pain for them to reach. I don’t mind trekking through treacherous locations - I like the challenge! 

It also seems some people are resisting the Hive.

I had a change of heart.

At first, I was simply going to sit back and  comment on the events unfolding around me, all from the safety of [redacted].   

But upon hearing that @gale-of-the-nomads (or as I prefer to call him, Cult Penguin), cornered and captured Nemo, I decided then and there that I could no longer run away. Even when they were left alone, I decided to stand by my decision and declared boldly that the Resistance would win. My declaration did not go unnoticed by fellow resistance member @livanarose. 

Something got me thinking though that the key to winning has to do with finding Adrien and subjecting him to bird feathers. We can’t just overwhelm the entire Hive with them, I guess, but can you really trust the word of a cult member?

It seems that the Hive lacks any sense of humor. Imagine living such a humorless, unimaginative life with all your privacy constantly invaded, 24/7.

@lenoreofraven has gone too far. Not only has their cult sullied the good name of pastries, but now puppies too!

Such a crime, will not go unpunished! Thankfully, my bold declaration and love for MCU movies seems to have gained me another ally in @apex-primus. I’m glad to have another comrade in arms!

Around day’s end, I ended up making a playlist to rally the troops. There is so much Hive propaganda, that it seems the voice of the Resistance is lost. Mostly, we respond to their lies. So I figured, it’s time to change that. And what’s a better way to get people pumped than listening to a lot of music that mostly makes you feel awesome or you should go pump iron at the gym? Some commentary on the tracks I included:

--> The other day, @jacquesthepigeon proved how effective trolling the Hive can be. What’s a better way to show appreciation than include the Jonas Brothers?

--> Along an anonymous “Owl”, Cult Penguin and Raven have formed a bird squad. "Swan Song” is my (my because I refuse to speak for the Resistance as  a whole. We are individuals) response to that. A swan song usually refers to someone’s last performance before retirement. See the irony?

--> “Libera Me from Hell” - opera = the Hive, rap = the Resistance. Also, “Row, row fight the power!” is such an amazing thing to chant.

--> Soundtrack music from Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Personally speaking, the movie has so many wonderful memories from what I first saw it. But one of the quotes I remember the best is: “The price of freedom is high. Always has been. It’s a price I’m willing to pay. And if I’m the only one, so be it. But I’m willing to bet I’m not.”

I don’t think everything on here represents everyone in the Resistance, so I’m open to people sending in suggestions. To have different genres, different bands and artists, different time periods on there would be great. 

For now, though, it’s a start. 

After that, I once again attempted to debunk more Hive propaganda. Raven has the audacity to speak of “peace”. 

Um, newsflash? Brainwashing isn’t peace. 

And if anyone actually thinks that the Hive will just stop after taking Marinette, they’re incredibly naive. Anyone that doesn’t follow the order of the Hive is seen as weird or a threat. Anyone who is scared is just to told that there’s nothing to be afraid of. Even if it was for a silly reason, I would never tell anyone how and when to feel afraid. They feel that way for a reason. They’re entitled to that. How they deal with that is what’s important.

And sure, we may be more violent than them, but there’s a reason for that.

Despite all this, livana suggested that we go along with a peace treaty, at least for now. I still think the situation is shady, and she agrees. Apex isn’t convinced either, but I suppose we’ll just play nice for now. We’re sitting tight for news on Monday, but of course, keeping our guards up.

March 30

Already, I’ve gotten some requests for the playlist! I mean, I’m pretty sure they’re all from the same person, but requests are still requests! And Apex’s comment really struck a chord with me. Damn, I’m such an emotional dork when it comes to that movie. Nobody also really seemed to like it too! 

I’m still not so secretly taking joy in watching people rip into the Hive. Trying to induct more people into your cult? Ha! Have a face full of pillow instead!

March 31

The Hive has captured and brainwashed Marinette.

Fuck.

...

This is why we can never have peace with the Hive. Allow them whatever they want, and they will consume you whole. I have no doubts that their greed will grow and they will pursue everyone left to add to their little cult.

And the day seemed so promising when I saw another brave soul stepped up to the plate to tackle Hive propaganda. Thank you, @nerd-in-the-basement. Hopefully, you’re safe.

Our best option for now is to retreat to the backup bunkers. 

Right now, the only solace I have is that somewhere out there, in the great wide universe, there is a timeline in which we have overcome the Hive. In another world, they are no longer a threat to humanity and individuality.

I can’t give up on making this timeline better though. There has to be a solution to overthrowing the Hive. We just need time to figure out what it is. Finding Adrien is key. Also, bird feathers. Lots of bird feathers.

For now, we play defense. 

For now, we live in shadow.

To the Hive:

You might have Marinette, but you will never destroy our hope. 

So continue to spread your lies. Continue to try and force people into your cult. Eventually, you will regret everything you’ve done.

Because if you thought I was violent or scary before, you won’t like me now.

How to enter a fandom - RPC

Hey guys, time for a friendly PSA from yours truely~

So I’ve been in and out of a lot of fandoms, made friends, enemies, frenemies, grave mistakes and happy accidents. I also see a lot of people come in other fandoms. Most of yall do great but I see some people carry in this weird sort of self deprecating attitude that can immediately turn rpers away from them, which results in; more of that self deprecation. So Im here to hopefully help out with the best ways to enter a fandom or an rpc, make your presence known and make lots of wonderful friends.

Now the first, and most important thing, and I notice a ton of people struggle with it is:

General attitude. 

Let me give two examples of some first time posts.

“Hey! I’m new to the fandom. I know my bio and my theme sucks but would anyone like to rp? Maybe?”

VS.

“Hey! I’m new to the fandom. My bio and rules are located here, though they’re still under construction I’m really eager to develop them with interactions!”

Now I know the first one is tempting for a lot of reasons. You might not even feel like its all that bad, but up next to the second one it actually sounds a little...depressing, monotone, dry. Even though they start the same, one ends with me feeling like: this person really doesn’t put effort into things, they dont even really want to be here. All my threads with them are going to be lazily written or probably written with half baked enthusiasm.

The second person is happy to be here, eager to interact, admits that since they’re a new blog not everything is perfect. Yet, they don’t talk down on themselves or make it seem like anyone who talks to them will only be taking pity on them.

This is actually a big problem I see in the rpc. Making people take pity on you for interactions and the rule with that is simple:

don’t make people feel like they have to take pity on you. 

It’s a knee jerk reaction, I know. We’re all awkward humans on the internet who want to play up our faults. Who wants to say “My stuff is SO awesome! It’s the best”??? 

Well. You do. You’re new to a fandom. People already have established relationships, character arks, possibly with another version of the muse youre playing. Backstories so detailed it’ll make your head spin. You are literally selling yourself to these other rpers. Don’t sell them “A vacuum cleaner that sucks. No, not sucks up the dirt, it just sucks. Like me, Im trash and dont even have a working vacuum” No one wants to buy a vacuum cleaner that sucks.

Hate to break it to you, but when you say you suck, or your stuff sucks; people are gunna believe you. Or they’re just gunna pity you. And thats not great either. 

Heck you might think; why not? So long as they rp with me, whats wrong with that? 

Well... lots of things but mostly; pity isn’t a good feeling. Nobody wants to feel guilted into rping with you. Imagine seeing someone on your dash constantly posting about how no one likes them, their character or interacting with them. How they wanna die because they never get asks, no one likes their starters. (Sound extreme? I’ve seen it.) It makes you feel bad right? It makes you wanna like them but like- where do you even start??? They don’t even like them?? What common ground do you have?? “Hey, I see you hate yourself... uh... I hate you too?” Not great. Actually bad. You don’t know how to approach this person without becoming an emotional crutch, and you know they’ll latch on to you and suck every positive emotion out of your body so how do you win?

So lesson one is; People don’t want to be forced to feel so bad that they rp with you, they want to feel inspired to. Inspire some dudes! (or non-dude identifying people)

I can’t stress enough how important attitude is because I’ve had both a shitty attitude and a great one in the RPC and let me tell you, nothing kills a blog faster than a shitty attitude. Wanna make a self deprecating posts about that meme that you got 0 asks for? NUH UH. Think again. PITY = BAD, SHORT LASTING FRIENDSHIPS. INSPIRED = SUPER AWESOME HAPPY FUN TIMES FOREVER.

Yo, present yourself in a way that makes people wanna approach you. Get them interested, say something wacky or edgy or if your character is self deprecating then self deprecate through them but DO IT IN A FUN WAY. The people who care about icons and fancy promos usually aren’t worth lasting friendships either. Sometimes they literally spend more time formatting than writings something worth while for you. (some of you really balance it and just love formatting but u know im not talking about u Im talking about those that literally wont talk to us that dont)

So present yourself well and be genuine.

HELL NO shut the what up I know you’re not, I know that’s a reflex to cover up how insecure you are, I know you hate how pathetic and small you feel so you point out all the things wrong with you before someone else can. That’s not you, and you are capable of more than that.

Dude. (and non-dude identifying peeps) I’m gunna say it again. I’m gunna say it a million times; one day it will sink in. Everybody feels that way.

The internet is a playground because you can trick people into believing whatever you want about yourself. YEP even good things!!! You don’t have to wear your flaws on your sleeve, and you certainly don’t have to wear them like a full body cast that prevents you from doing anything fun in your life.

Take the cast off, take a risk. You literally have nothing to lose. Especially if no one interacts with you as is anyways.

Be mindful

This is more of a trick I use to make myself feel better. I don’t follow a lot of people so my dash is pretty slow. It’s fairly easy to tell when people are and aren’t active/online so I literally have to trick myself sometimes but;

If you reblog a meme and get nothing, step back and ask yourself; am I sure anyone even saw it? and are the people who did maybe to shy to send anything? Or maybe nothing in that meme applies to their character.

As a mute character I am VERY restricted to what memes I reply to. As a character who speaks VERY LITTLE I am VERY restricted to what dialogues I can send at all. This means I’m required to edit memes a little (this is allowed by most meme creators btw) or I need a very good relationship with a character in order to say/sign that many words at them.

And worse case scenario, queue it and reblog it again/later. Its no biggie, some memes don’t make it.

Self reflect

Check out people on the dash. Do they have interactions? What are they like? Is their character more welcoming? Maybe you’re character is more intimidating. You might need to actually seek out interaction.

Tumblr has this huge enigma where everyone wants asks but no one wants to send them. Curious anons come from someone, magic anons come from your peers, followers, friends. Some of them are pretty obvious. Want asks? Send them. We really need to get the ball rolling with this because its honestly a problem. Show some initiative and reach out. It actually feels pretty good seeing someone react to your outrageous anon. And its a lot of stress relief if you play an otherwise very serious character to get to branch out and be silly.

So you send asks, you like starter calls- why isn’t it working?

Well, a stranger knocks on your door and tries to get to know you. Its a little awkward- it can work sure in some cases. But in most you’ll probably close the door and phone the police.

The RPC isn’t as strange as that but what’s easier? Talking to a muse you’ve never met from a blog you’ve never seen before? Or writing a thread with your best bud, throwing in inside jokes and references to your favourite shows- teasing each other about that one embarrassing thing that happened to your muse- yeah. Yeah you get it.

If you have history or at least an idea what someone is like, you will want to interact with them more. I don’t know if you’re some mean... meanie pants whos gunna smack my muse because he offered you a cookie. And maybe you are, but if I don’t know you, or know that your muse is deeply traumatized by cookies, I might take that as you saying “Ew no get away I never wanna rp with you”.

It sounds harsh, but I KNOW it happens. It STILL happens to me, even with people I’m friends with. Even if someone has multiple blogs and I get on fine with one muse, if the other hates me I might get uneasy about sending in asks cause I feel like I’m directly bothering the mun (who I love on this blog but WHAT IF THEY START HATING ME THERE TOO???)

Separation is tricky. We all get jealous or feel neglected when our partners focus on another thread/ship or send mean angsty replies which is why its important to check yourself remind yourself you have value, mun =/= muse and that it’s all in good fun.

Have Rules

UGH no!!! Not rules I hate rules, I dont want to restrict anyone!

Listen. I get it. I was a rule-less blog for a long time. But you know what? You need them. Not just for you, but for the people who wanna interact. I still feel the need to ask people who have rules what they are and aren’t comfortable with. You might not realize it but shit can go down in rps especially in certain fandoms. Even if its just the basics. Write them. They matter.

Unless you’re fine with someone literally controlling your character, or a blog you dont even follow who RPs David Letterman tags you in a smutty thread where your muse and him are married and he’s heavily pregnant with 4 narwal baby’s I- I think you can see where I’m going.

If its just the basics, thats fine, everyone loves seeing that. No god modding, not forced shipping, ect- great. Less for me to remember. Add to it if you need to. Everyone experiences rp different. Make your experience a comfortable one.

Step away.

If you’re feeling negative, just step away. Do not make a big post about it alerting everyone who follows you because they might not all respond well. If you have close friends in then fandom you can go to, talk to them, vent a little, or just remove yourself and get those feelings out. But remember that no one here is equipped to be your therapist, and we cant all be expected to take the burden from you. It is up to you to regulate your emotions. Use coping skills but please don’t make the fandom or your blog a toxic place to be.

You don’t feel good, and no one reading your posts feels good, and building friendships on not feeling good is just... completely not good.

Im not saying you must be sunshine and rainbows all the time, but feeling bad feels bad and even though rping is just a hobby and a past time you are still reaching into other peoples lives. Leave a good impact, try to be someone you would want to meet in the rpc. Make it a better place.

Favorite Memories with the Daddy Squad

I really wanted to make something funny or big for 4/20 because it's like the Christmas of the Daddy Squad, but I'm feeling very... nice and comfy. Much uwus. I'm going to chase that feeling.

I'll be sharing 1) my favorite type of moments and memories with a Daddy in general and 2) a specific one!

Mars ♡

General ❀

My favorite times with Mars was talking in lengthy messages on Tumblr. Weirdly enough, most of our conversations can get rather heavy/solemn, but that's not a bad thing! It's as if we're writing letters to one another, and I find the idea kind of cute and funny. Mars is so sincere and has a lot to say, which I adore.

Specific ✿

One of my favorite memories with Mars so far was when she came back from perhaps, an art exhibition or museum or something? She had met a friend there who saw that she supported LGBT and knew Hetalia as well.

That was a time when I saw that Mars was at one of her happiest. She had been longing for a friend on her little island; when she sent us an audio of her telling us about her experience, my heart warmed. You know, that kind of feeling when you're so freaking happy that you feel complete and whole? I felt that. Mars meeting someone like her in a small world... it was really nice. I could hear the laughter and happiness in her voice.

Parker ♤

General ❀

Brainstorming PrUKUS and just talking about fic ideas!! Seriously, they're rad. Parker is very accepting and open to suggestions and ideas, and will readily use them. He is also enthusiastic and will tell you everything on his mind when it comes to his fics, and hearing him go on and on about his ideas and passion is just awe-inspiring and amazing. You should see him go; he really has a passion for writing.

Specific ✿

Stock. Photos.

Parker's good at editing, including his own edit of the USUK busona. However, the first memory that comes to mind was when we both created a bunch of stock photo memes of the Daddy Squad. They were hilarious.

Moreover, this was a time when I really felt like I was part of a group, that I mattered somehow to a group. I've always been the Canada of a friend group, sorta? But during this moment... I felt included. And it was one of the first times that I felt like I really clicked with Parker because I always thought he secretly disliked me and all that. I'm annoying. :') (fortunately, he actually doesn't!)

I could go back into Yeetalia and look at all the wonderful times he had editing stock photos with the Daddy Squad in it. It will still bring me a few chuckles. It definitely made my day that very day, and I feel that I can't forget it even if I tried. I wouldn't, but even if.

renn ♧

General ❀

I love joking around with renn! She has a great sense of humor and a wonderful personality that really makes our conversations lively. We sometimes joke about "who tops and who bottoms," make lots of domestic jokes and references, shit like that. It's one of those small things that really accumulate to a lot of my overall happiness. Talking to renn like this has become sort of a daily, natural thing.

Specific ✿

Almost no contest--the time when we planned our second wedding.

We were going to have a cowboy wedding, with Parker as my best man and Mars is the flower girl. Melon and the RP server would be there too!! renn and I were talking about this or that; we even decided on getting a job by this summer or next year to afford two dresses worth a thousand dollars.

I'm a bit of a romantic and I love thinking about wedding plans. Not only did we fuss over the dress costs, we even thought about when we were going to have our wedding (June, although it's when most couples marry, summer weddings are great) and more of the details which is un secreto.

renn is the one of the best wiifs and friends on Earth, and thinking about silly, cute ideas like a cowboy wedding just makes me incredibly happy. I daydream about this fictional wedding 34 times a day.

Melon/Marty ◇

General ❀

I loved speaking to Melon and sometimes poking fun at their muse, APH Canada. God, I'm not usually that mean except... yeah, I'm meaner to the people that I'm most comfortable with or I like a lot. It's really easy talking to you; you feel like an old friend to me, even if we've only known each other for a little.

Specific ✿

I never got to have much one-on-one conversations with Canamama, but the times we do, it's absolute fun! Canamama is such a down-to-earth, mature person.

Oh man, I have a lot to choose from... but I think I'll talk about the time they posted a selfie of themselves with the bandana in the Hetalia RP server. I told them they were very pretty--handsome, good-looking, indeed they are!--but everytime I complimented them, they pulled up their bandana until it hid their entire head.

Canamama is beautiful, inside and out. Really! Sincerely. I've said it to one of the daddies before that I'm not a good liar; I'm just telling what I think, honestly and from the bottom of my heart. Not only do they have a personality that can make you feel like instant friends, they can also kick your haters' butts. Just an amazing person overall. I hope they know how great they are.
