We specialize in creating bathrooms that are both functional and beautiful, tailored to meet your specific needs. Here are some essential features and additions to consider when upgrading your bathroom.
1. Heated Floors

You can customize your walk-in shower with features like a rainfall showerhead, body jets, or even a built-in bench for added comfort. We design walk-in showers that are tailored to your space and preferences, ensuring a sleek and functional addition to your bathroom.
3. Freestanding Bathtub
For those who love to soak and unwind, a freestanding bathtub is a must-have feature. These bathtubs are available in a variety of styles, from classic clawfoot designs to modern minimalist shapes, making them a stunning centerpiece in any bathroom. Freestanding tubs offer both comfort and aesthetic appeal, providing a luxurious bathing experience that adds a touch of elegance to your space.
4. Double Vanity
A double vanity is an excellent solution for shared bathrooms, providing ample space for two people to get ready simultaneously. It also offers additional storage for toiletries, towels, and other essentials, helping to keep your bathroom organized and clutter-free. When upgrading your bathroom, consider a custom double vanity designed to match your style and storage needs. We specializes in creating custom vanities that enhance both the functionality and appearance of your bathroom.
5. Smart Bathroom Technology
Incorporating smart technology into your bathroom upgrade can make your space more efficient and enjoyable. From smart mirrors with built-in lighting and anti-fog features to programmable showers that remember your preferred water temperature, the possibilities are endless. You can also add voice-activated controls for lights, music, and more, creating a personalized and high-tech bathroom experience. We stay up-to-date with the latest smart bathroom technologies to offer you the most innovative solutions.
6. High-Quality Tile Flooring
The flooring in your bathroom is a crucial element that can make or break the overall design. High-quality tile flooring not only adds to the aesthetic appeal of your bathroom but also offers durability and ease of maintenance. When selecting tile flooring, consider materials that are water-resistant and slip-resistant, especially for a bathroom. On Point Renovation, known as one of the Best Tile Flooring Ottawa Contractors for Homes, can help you choose the perfect tile that complements your design and stands up to the demands of a bathroom environment.
7. Ample Storage Solutions
Effective storage is essential in any bathroom, especially if you’re working with a smaller space. Incorporating built-in cabinets, shelves, and niches into your bathroom upgrade can help you maximize storage while keeping your space organized and clutter-free. Consider adding a medicine cabinet with mirrored doors, floating shelves, or a linen closet to store all your bathroom essentials neatly. We offers customized storage solutions that make the most of your bathroom space, no matter the size.
8. Enhanced Lighting
Good lighting is key to creating a functional and inviting bathroom. Consider adding a combination of task lighting, ambient lighting, and accent lighting to ensure your bathroom is well-lit for all activities. Task lighting around the vanity, like sconces or LED mirrors, is essential for grooming tasks, while ambient lighting from ceiling fixtures creates a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Accent lighting, such as under-cabinet lights or decorative fixtures, adds a touch of style and sophistication. We can help you design a lighting scheme that highlights your bathroom’s best features.
9. Upgraded Fixtures and Hardware
Sometimes, the smallest details can make the biggest impact. Upgrading your bathroom fixtures and hardware is an easy way to give your bathroom a fresh, modern look. Consider replacing old faucets, showerheads, and cabinet handles with new, stylish options in finishes like brushed nickel, matte black, or polished chrome. These small upgrades can tie together the overall design of your bathroom and give it a cohesive, updated appearance.
10. Luxurious Finishes
Adding luxurious finishes to your bathroom can transform it from a functional space to a personal retreat. A Comprehensive Guide to Bathroom Renovation
Embarking on a bathroom renovation project can be a venture that turns a space into your oasis. Whether your goal is to update a design, enhance functionality, or add a touch of luxury, a planned bathroom remodel can significantly elevate the comfort and value of your home. Below is a guide that will help you navigate the intricacies of bathroom renovation and create a space that reflects your style and needs.
1. Defining Your Vision and Requirements
Start by evaluating your bathroom setup. Take note of what aspects are working well and what areas could use improvement. Consider factors such as the size of the space, its layout, and how it is utilized. Are you aiming for a spa retreat, a family-friendly bathroom, or a sleek and contemporary ambiance? Your vision will serve as the guiding force behind every decision you make, from making changes to selecting materials.
2. Maximizing Space Efficiency
Efficient utilization of space is vital in bathroom design. You may choose to maintain the existing layout to keep plumbing work to a minimum or explore options for rearranging fixtures to optimize flow. Pay attention to where you position the shower, bathtub, toilet, and sink. A planned layout enhances functionality and creates an illusion of more space in even small bathrooms.
3. Choosing Materials and Fixtures
Selecting the materials and fixtures is crucial for your bathroom's look and long-lasting durability. Choosing moisture materials that can stand the test of time is essential. Many people opt for tiles as they are known for their durability and ability to resist water damage. Regarding fixtures, you have various options, from porcelain to glass or metal. The key is to select a style that complements your design theme.
4. Adding Luxury and Comfort
Modern bathrooms offer more than functionality; they can provide a luxurious and relaxing experience. For added comfort, consider incorporating features like a rain showerhead, a freestanding tub, or heated floors. Good lighting is also crucial in creating the ambiance; combining lights with task lighting around the mirror and ambient lighting can help create a serene atmosphere.
5. Storage Solutions
An organized bathroom with storage is essential in keeping it tidy and free from clutter. Get creative with storage solutions such as built-in shelves, vanity cabinets, or recessed niches in showers for storing toiletries. Tailoring these storage solutions to your needs will greatly enhance functionality.
6. Eco-Friendly Options
To make your bathroom more sustainable, consider incorporating eco features. Low-flow toilets, showerheads, and faucets are choices as they significantly reduce water usage while still providing performance.
Energy-efficient lighting and using materials such as bamboo or recycled glass also play a role in designing with a conscious mindset.
7. Budgeting and planning
It is crucial to establish a budget and timeline for your remodeling project. Preparing for expenses and delays is an essential, common occurrence during renovation projects. Having a budget and plan will assist in prioritizing features and keeping the project on track.
Embarking on a bathroom remodeling journey can significantly enhance your life by creating a space that reflects your style while meeting your functional needs. By strategizing, selecting materials, and considering professional assistance for intricate tasks, your bathroom can create a refreshing space that adds value to your home while enhancing your overall living experience.

15 bathroom storage ideas for organization
Most bathrooms in typical apartments are not known for their size or convenience, which complicates storage in the bathroom. We will consider several ideas that will help to place necessary items more ergonomically. Vanities If the bathroom is small, the space under the sink should be used to its maximum. Vanities can have a base, stand on legs, or be wall-mounted, which reduces storage space but facilitates cleaning. When choosing a vanity, it's important to take into consideration the size of the bathroom: the wider the furniture, the more space is used for storage. Drawers These designs are handy because they make it easier to access the contents: when you open a deep drawer, all the items are visible, rather than hidden in the far corners. A pull-out design is invaluable in niche cabinets and under-sink vanities. Inside, you can place not just toiletries, but also outlets for a curling iron or hairdryer. The photo shows a design with a well-thought-out system for storing electrical appliances, household chemicals, and a basket for laundry. Wall Cabinets Closed cabinets that hang on the wall are an essential element of a bathroom storage system. They can be located above the washing machine, toilet, or sink. Behind their facades, cabinets hide tubes and jars of cosmetics that you should not leave in sight. Cabinets with mirror doors are particularly functional. Open Shelves On compact shelves, people usually store items that should always be within reach (shampoos and soap), as well as decor that emphasizes the individuality of the interior. The advantage of shelves is that they can be placed in any area: above the bath, above the washing machine or door, in the corner. For example, chrome corner shelves are handy because they take up little space, have hooks for sponges, and can be attached without drilling. The photo shows bathroom shelves made by hand. Built-in Shelves Even a small recess in the wall can be used for storage, especially in a small bathroom. The wooden shelf shown in the first photo has become the main highlight of the interior. But if you don't want to leave most items in sight, you can close the design by attaching fabric or a roller blind. Freestanding Shelves This storage idea is suitable for spacious bathrooms. Open structures look light and stylish, they can be rearranged if necessary, and the contents can be changed depending on needs. Keep in mind that an abundance of items makes a room cluttered, so it is recommended to use baskets and boxes to maintain order. Niches Also readDesign of niches in the bathroom If during renovation open pipes were hidden in a drywall box, recesses may have formed in some places. Usually, they are not left unutilized and are transformed into shelves for storing various bathroom items. Shelf-niches can consist of several parts or form a whole structure. Wheeled Shelves Mobile racks are made of metal or plastic and offer a wide choice of shapes. Wheels allow using them anywhere, and compact sizes - fit even in a small area. Storage on Rails You can use this convenient device as a bar for drying towels and sponges, attaching baskets to it, and hanging hooks for various items. A rail allows for optimal storage organization even in the smallest bathroom. In the photo is a white rail matching the tile, mounted without drilling. Radius Shelves For owners of tulip-shaped sinks, this accessory is a real find, as the space under the plumbing fixture with a leg often remains empty. The curved shape of the rack fills the space to the maximum, and movable rollers allow you to adjust the position of the structure. Storage under the Tub You should plan such a system at the initial stage of renovation, as it is made to order according to the size of the tub. It could be open shelves, folding or sliding drawers. There is enough space under the tub to store not only cleaning products but also a basin. The photo shows a combined bathroom with shelves built in next to the tub. Towel Ladder This fashionable accessory instantly turns the bathroom stylish and unique. It's the optimal solution for towel storage and drying in a spacious bathroom. Pockets Pockets for storing tubes, combs and other small items are one of the most budget-friendly and useful life hacks. You can hang them on the wall, door, or shower curtain rod. Baskets Eco-style enthusiasts, as well as fans of Scandinavian and rustic design, use baskets in the bathroom not only for dirty laundry storage. Woven containers can be placed on open shelves to add coziness to the interior, hidden in cabinets for sorting items, or hung on the wall. The photo shows a basket with a hinged lid, complementing an interior with elements of rustic style. Compact Dresser Another interesting bathroom storage idea is a portable plastic dresser with sliding drawers. This accessory comes in handy if you need additional storage space in the bathroom: you can place the dresser on the washing machine, toilet table, or use it in a country house. Photo Gallery Organizing storage in the bathroom often requires a considerable investment, but the examples reviewed prove that creating a stylish and comfortable interior sometimes only takes a small budget and some imagination. In this article, we will take an in-depth look at the top 10 must-have features that you should consider including in your bathrooms Central Coast renovation wish list.
Heated Floors
Heated floors, also known as radiant floor heating, are an energy-efficient method of warming your bathroom from the ground up. They can be installed using electric or hydronic systems, both of which provide consistent and comfortable warmth. Not only do heated floors make your bathroom more comfortable, but they can also help reduce energy costs during colder months.
Smart Shower Systems
Smart shower systems combine technology and luxury, allowing you to control various aspects of your shower experience using digital controls or even voice commands. Features may include customizable water pressure, steam, temperature settings, and chromotherapy. Some smart shower systems also integrate with smart speakers or smartphones for added convenience and entertainment.
Freestanding Bathtub
Freestanding bathtubs come in various materials, shapes, and sizes, from traditional clawfoot designs to sleek, modern ovals. The right freestanding bathtub can make a striking statement in your bathroom while providing a comfortable space for relaxation. Consider factors like size, material, and style when selecting the perfect freestanding bathtub for your space.
Double Vanities
Double vanities are an excellent addition to shared or family bathrooms. With two separate sink areas, ample counter space, and storage, double vanities can significantly reduce morning congestion. When designing your double vanity, consider factors such as style, materials, and coordinating fixtures to create a cohesive look.
Large Walk-In Shower
A spacious walk-in shower enhances your bathroom's functionality and style. For added accessibility, consider curbless or zero-entry designs that eliminate the need to step over a threshold. Incorporate features such as rainfall showerheads, body sprays, and handheld shower wands for a luxurious and customizable shower experience.
High-Efficiency Toilet
High-efficiency toilets use advanced flushing technology to minimize water consumption without sacrificing performance. Many models feature a dual-flush system, allowing users to select a partial or full flush depending on the waste type. Upgrading to a high-efficiency toilet can significantly reduce your household's water usage and lower your water bills.
Adequate Storage
A well-designed bathroom incorporates various storage options to accommodate toiletries, towels, and other essentials. This might include floating shelves, recessed niches, built-in cabinets, or a combination of these elements. When planning your bathroom storage, consider the size of your space and the items you need to store to create practical and stylish solutions.
Stylish and Durable Flooring
Your bathroom flooring should be both visually appealing and able to withstand moisture and foot traffic. Porcelain or ceramic tiles are popular choices due to their durability, water resistance, and variety of styles. Natural stone, such as marble or slate, adds a touch of luxury but may require additional maintenance. Luxury vinyl planks offer a more budget-friendly option that is still water-resistant and attractive.
Proper Ventilation
Effective ventilation is essential for maintaining a healthy bathroom environment. Choose a quality exhaust fan with a sufficient capacity for your bathroom size. For even better moisture control, consider installing a humidity-sensing fan that automatically adjusts its operation based on the room's humidity levels. This can help prevent mold and mildew growth while prolonging the life of your bathroom fixtures and finishes.
Lighting Design
A well-lit bathroom incorporates multiple layers of lighting. Ambient lighting, like recessed or flush-mounted ceiling fixtures lights, provides overall illumination for the space. Task lighting, such as vanity lights or wall sconces, ensures that you have sufficient light for grooming tasks like shaving or applying makeup. Accent lighting, like LED strip lights or in-shower recessed lights, can highlight architectural features or create a relaxing ambiance.
When selecting light fixtures for your bathroom, consider the style, size, and finish to create a cohesive look. Additionally, install dimmer switches to give you the flexibility to adjust the lighting levels to your preferences and needs. For an eco-friendly choice, opt for LED bulbs that are energy-efficient and long-lasting.
By integrating these top 10 must-have features into your bathroom renovation wish list, you can create a space that is not only visually stunning but also meets your daily requirements for comfort and functionality. Remember to consider factors such as your bathroom's size, layout, and overall style when choosing which features to include. By changing out the tub, the shower could be relocated and enlarged, the walls lined with Daltile’s 12 x 24 Uniform Concrete Dark Grey tile. To coordinate, a new vanity and linen tower were installed in Regency’s gray shaker style, all topped by Daltile’s OQ23 Equinox quartz, also applied to the shower threshold, bench, and niche trim. Studio 41 provided on-trend Kohler vessel sinks and modern lighted medicine cabinets, as well as the Kalia plumbing fixtures and faucets, and the whole room is pulled together by the stunning floor, Daltile’s 12 x 224 Marble Attache tile in Lavish Pearl Arabesque.
Perhaps the most stunning design element was a frosted glass pocket door leading to a charming new windowed alcove housing an additional storage cabinet. Studio 41’s WarmUp heated floor mats and thermostat provide the final touch of luxury, a hallmark of Regency Home Remodeling. Let Regency handle your project for the perfect room, brought in on time and within your budget. Give them a call and get started on your dream home.

Transform Your Ensuite: Aesthetic Home Renovation Ideas
Ensuite bathrooms have become a symbol of luxury and convenience in modern homes. These private sanctuaries offer a perfect blend of functionality and comfort, allowing homeowners to indulge in spa-like experiences without stepping out of their bedrooms. If you're planning to renovate your bathroom ideas ensuite, it's essential to focus on aesthetics as well as practicality. Here are some inspired ideas to transform your ensuite into a stylish retreat.
Embrace Minimalism with a Monochromatic Palette Minimalism is a timeless trend that creates a serene and uncluttered space. Opt for a monochromatic color scheme, such as shades of white, gray, or beige. This approach not only makes the bathroom look spacious but also provides a clean and elegant appearance. Use different textures like marble tiles, matte finishes, and subtle patterns to add depth and interest without overwhelming the space.
Tips: Choose large tiles to reduce grout lines and create a seamless look. Incorporate built-in storage to keep surfaces clutter-free. Select sleek, modern fixtures in matching tones.
Indulge in Luxury with High-End Materials Nothing speaks luxury like high-quality materials. Consider incorporating natural stones like marble or granite for your countertops and flooring. These materials not only look stunning but also add value to your home. Pair them with high-end fixtures in brushed gold or matte black for a sophisticated contrast.
Tips: Use a statement piece, such as a freestanding bathtub or a custom vanity, to create a focal point. Add underfloor heating for a touch of opulence and comfort. Install a rain showerhead for a spa-like experience.
Create a Spa-Like Atmosphere with Earthy Tones Earthy tones and natural materials can turn your ensuite into a tranquil spa retreat. Think warm wood finishes, stone accents, and a palette of greens and browns. These elements bring a sense of calm and relaxation, making your bathroom a perfect place to unwind after a long day.
Tips: Incorporate plants to enhance the natural feel and improve air quality. Use bamboo or teak accessories to complement the earthy tones. Consider a pebble-tiled shower floor for a tactile, grounding experience.
Add a Touch of Glamour with Statement Lighting Lighting plays a crucial role in setting the mood of your ensuite bathroom. Chandeliers, pendant lights, or wall sconces can add a touch of glamour and make the space feel more inviting. Layered lighting, combining ambient, task, and accent lighting, ensures that your bathroom is both functional and beautiful.
Tips: Use dimmable lights to adjust the ambiance according to your mood. Position lights around mirrors to eliminate shadows and provide optimal illumination for grooming tasks. Choose fixtures that complement the overall design theme of your bathroom.
Maximize Space with Smart Storage Solutions An ensuite bathroom should be a place of relaxation, not clutter. Incorporate smart storage solutions to keep your essentials organized and out of sight. Floating vanities, built-in shelves, and recessed niches are excellent ways to maximize space without compromising on style.
Tips: Opt for mirrored cabinets to add storage and make the space appear larger. Use baskets and decorative boxes to store toiletries neatly. Install hooks and towel racks to keep towels and robes within easy reach.
Infuse Personality with Custom Details Personalize your ensuite by adding custom details that reflect your style. Whether it's a unique tile pattern, a custom vanity, or personalized artwork, these touches make your bathroom truly yours. Don't be afraid to mix and match styles and materials to create a space that feels both cohesive and uniquely you.
Tips: Create an accent wall with patterned tiles or a bold color. Add a custom mirror frame to enhance your vanity area. Incorporate your favorite artwork or photographs for a personal touch. Conclusion Renovating your ensuite bathroom is an opportunity to create a personal haven that combines luxury, comfort, and style. By embracing minimalist designs, high-end materials, earthy tones, statement lighting, smart storage solutions, and custom details, you can transform your bathroom into a beautiful and functional space. How Can I Add Storage to My Small Bathroom?
Is it possible to add some storage to a small bathroom or is it a contradiction in terms? In this short article, we will address how to maximize the storage in a small size bathroom and what one can expect as far as functional storage capacity during bathroom renovations in Ottawa.
Defining The Small Bathroom
Your bathroom may feel small, but it may be a standard size bathroom of 35 to 40 square feet. Small bathrooms are usually defined as anything smaller than 5 feet wide by 7 feet long. Fortunately, bathroom contractors in Ottawa can help you find options that fit your bathroom to make it more comfortable and functional.
What Type Of Storage Do You Want?
When you think of bathroom storage, you’re not usually thinking of general household items, but rather items that you would need for typical bathroom use. Towels, toilet paper, personal hygiene items, and yes, even Costco size shampoos and conditioners are generally on the list! Let’s look at the options for small bathrooms.
Vanities
Oftentimes, the biggest storage unit in a bathroom is the vanity. In a 7-foot bathroom with a 30-inch-wide tub or shower, not a lot of room is left over for the vanity. Vanities typically come in two types, wall mount and freestanding. A freestanding vanity will have more potential for storage than a wall mount, but you may get more space by utilizing organizers that maximize the storage space. Look for smaller vanities that won’t overwhelm your smaller bathroom.
Medicine Cabinet
Next, consider the use of a wall built-in medicine cabinet, or wall mount medicine cabinet. Though they do take away a bit from a clean and airy look of the bathroom, they also add a good amount of usable storage for your small items. All small medicine bottles, toothbrushes and pastes, skincare, etc., can be easily and comfortably stored in a medicine cabinet, which in turn will open up the space in your vanity for larger items.
Use Your Tub And Shower Area
Your tub and shower area can carefully be used as storage for your soaps, shampoos and conditioners, and some skincare products. The optional niches and shelves that can be installed right in a tub/shower area are a great idea and they free up both vanity countertop space as well as inside the vanity. The ability to install those depends on the type of shower finish you choose. In general, as long as you have interior walls and you are installing tile above your tub or shower, there should be a way to install a niche.
Custom Storage Options
If after exhausting these two main storage areas you still find yourself in need of more space, work with a designer who can help you customize your space with:
Wall mount cabinet above the toilet.
Linen towers can be installed on interior walls without electrical or plumbing.
Open wall-mounted shelves are also an option.
Bathroom Renovations Depend On Your Space
There’s no way around it—your bathroom installation in Ottawa will depend to a large extent on the size of your bathroom. Adding more storage into your bathroom will make it appear less airy and less clean, so you want to find a balance between storage and design.
Miracle Dream Homes can answer all your questions about renovating a small bathroom in Ottawa.

Budgeting for your bathroom renovation
One of the first and biggest questions that I ask my clients in our quote process is “Have you got a budget in mind for your Bathroom”.?
In most cases the answer is “ We haven’t really thought about it ” or “ We are getting quotes to get an idea on costs. ”
The reason that we ask this question is to see what fixtures and fittings, tile choice etc. that we may look at when it comes too pricing. These factors play a big role in pricing up a quote/job on the contractors side. For example tile price can range from $30pm2 - $100+pm2, Vanities can range from $500 - $3,000+ and tap ware can range from $40 - $300+
With all of these factors taken into account we can break down the cost of a bathroom down into 4 different price brackets.
1. Cosmetic Renovation - $5,000 - $10,000
2. Budget Renovation - $10,000 - $15,000
3. Mid-Range Renovation - $15,000 - $30,000
4. Luxury/Premium Renovation - $30,000+
The Housing Industry Association (HIA) found that the average bathroom renovation in gold coast is to be around the $17,522.
COSMETIC RENOVATION
$5,000 - $10,000 For the cosmetic renovation of your bathroom you are looking at possibly changing out the vanity and taps, changing basic fixtures and fittings such as towel rails, toilet roll holders etc, and changing out a toilet. this type of renovation would include nothing invasive like changing tiles etc.
BUDGET RENOVATION
$10,000 - $15,000 The budget renovation may involve some compromises such as keeping electrical and plumbing in the same locations, possibly only having a skirting tile instead floor too ceiling (depending on the size of the bathroom). There may also need to be some sacrifices in the tile choice staying around the $30pm2 range. You would also be looking at the more budget range of fixtures and fittings and staying with a framed shower screen instead of a semi frameless or frameless shower screen and maybe a floor mount vanity instead of a wall hung vanity.
MID-RANGE RENOVATION
$15,000-$30,000 This price range is what the average person will spend on their bathroom renovation. This range will allow you to achieve a broader range of quality fixtures and fittings in the mid rage. You would also have a broader range of tiles to choose from being more in the range up to $50pm2. This will also allow more of a stretch in budget for things like feature tiles such as mosaics or subway tiles. In general your average wall tile like a 300x600 wall tile would be $50pm2 to lay where as your subway or mosaic tile would be more like $150pm2 to lay. This would allow you to do a feature wall in the shower recess or small wall feature. You could also look at upgrading the shower screen to a semi frameless or frameless. This price range would also allow you to look at a fancier freestanding bath and vanity and also possibly adding a couple of niches. With extra budget, this could allow for some minor changes or alterations to plumbing and electrical.
PREMIUM OR LUXURY RENOVATION
$30,000 + In this price range the options are plentiful, with almost no compromises to be made (other than possibly structural restrictions). In this range you could step up to a more luxurious stone freestanding bath, frameless shower screen, in wall toilet cistern and more luxurious wall hung vanity. This range will allow you to have a larger range of tiles to choose from which, would be moving into the range of $70pm2+. This increase in budget will also allow the flexibility to move Plumbing and electrical to achieve exactly the flow and look that you want. You may also like to add a TV - to relax and unwind after a long stressful day in your luxurious Stone bath, the possibilities are endless.

7 tips to planning a bathroom renovation
When planning a bathroom renovation, you need to choose a design option that meets your existing and future needs. This may be a simple renovation to replace fixtures or a complex project to change the layout and enlarge the bathroom.
Our guide to planning a bathroom renovation will give you plenty of food for thought so you can decide how to proceed.
1. Bathroom layout
Think about your current bathroom layout. Is it flexible enough to meet your existing or future needs for space and storage? Is there anything about the layout that bothers you, e.g. perhaps it's noticeably cold or drafty while taking a bath or feels cramped and poky?
Get a bathroom designer in to assess the structure carefully so you know the limits of your bathroom. The proposed renovation must either fit the existing structure or the required structural changes must be possible. They can also draw you up a basic draft of the best layout for the space.
2. Fixtures
When it comes to fixtures, it's a good idea to create a wish list of everything you want in your bathroom reno. After all, modern bathrooms are all about pampering, as well as functionality.
Even if you have to cut your list back at a later date due to budget or size constraints, at least it'll be a conscious decision, and not because you didn't realise you could have it.
Fixtures you might want to consider for a new layout include:
His & hers sinks Free standing bath Whirlpool tub Shower or bath niche Twin showers New toilet Underfloor heating Heated towel rail Adding windows or skylights New ventilation fan.
3. Lighting
The right lighting can make a huge difference to the final look and functionality of your bathroom. So this should be an important consideration and not just an afterthought.
Think about the existing lighting. Is it visually pleasing or is it outdated? Does it use energy efficiently? Does it give out adequate light or do you need more overall light or task lighting?
Ideally, a bathroom should have a few layers of lighting including:
Ambient – such as recessed fixtures or wall sconces
Task – to illuminate the vanity mirror
Decorative – for adding interest to the space
In a bathroom reno, a lighting update may be as simple as replacing the existing fixtures with new ones or as complex as a complete redesign. If you're adding a lot of new features, then you may need new wiring and outlets for increased loads (e.g. whirlpool tubs or underfloor heating).
4. Colour ideas
Choosing a colour scheme is one of the most important factors of a bathroom reno. The right colours will make you want to spend time in your new bathroom, not avoid it.
You may have set ideas on the colours you want to use, or you may need more time to research ideas on interior decorating sites.
If you're not sure where to start or don't want to get it wrong, here are some ideas to help you out:
Use colour cues from materials you've already chosen, e.g. tile tones, marble veins.
Carry a colour palette through from another room in the house, e.g. the kitchen for cohesion and flow.
Create a mood board of tile, paint and fabric samples, so you can see how it all looks together.
Use neutrals, such as grey and white, as your base and add colours with accessories like towels, a pot plant, or fancy hand wash.
5. Storage requirements
Not enough bathroom storage is a common complaint for many homeowners. So make sure your new bathroom takes care of all your storage needs.
Think about how many people will use the bathroom on a regular basis. If it's an ensuite for a master bedroom, for example, then you won't need as much storage as a family bathroom does.
What items do you want to store in the bathroom for ease of access: towels, toilet paper, extra shampoo, toothpaste?
What kind of storage do you want, inbuilt or freestanding? Even if you have a small bathroom you can get creative by adding inset shelving to a wall, a corner or above the doorway.
6. Tiling height
Choosing the right tiling height is important when renovating because it will affect the overall look and feel of the bathroom. As well as the cost.
You can tile to a certain level, for example, to the top of the window or door architrave. You can also have different tiling levels in the one bathroom or you can tile to the ceiling. All will have a different effect on how the bathroom will look.
Speak to a bathroom designer about tiling to get professional advice on what will work in your space.
7. What to budget?
A complete bathroom renovation, in general, cost you between $20,000 and $30,000, a luxury bathroom renovation over $50,000.
At the end of the day, the overall cost estimate of the bathroom renovation will be affected by how labour intensive it is, (e.g. tilers, plumbers, builders) and the how many luxury features you add.
To keep within your budget, prioritise your wishlist and avoid a bathroom renovation blowout by:
Making a plan and sticking to it
Keeping to the layout you have rather than restructuring
Shopping around for the best price on fixtures
Using reputable tradespeople who stick to budgets
Not overspending on designer fixtures.
